Spider man was basically exactly what you would expect it to be. Full of action and whole lot of awesome illustrations. I enjoyed reading this and thinking back to the Spider Man comics I used to read when I was a kid, and I would highly recommend it. If you enjoy superhero books, this is the graphic novel for you.

Marvel's Mightiest Heroes Book 12.
Three stories including Spider-Man's first appearance, his first battle with the supervillain team-up of the Sinister Six and a retrospective story written for issue 500 of 'The Amazing Spider-Man'.

Spider-Man's origins are pretty well-known so there's not much to excite readers in the character's origin story here, unless you're the kind of person who looks forward to seeing Bruce Wayne's parent getting shot in whatever the next Batman movie is (honestly, the best thing 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' did was to not feature the whole radioactive spider scene). I suppose it is interesting to see just how unpopular Peter was at school and be impressed that he didn't turn into a homicidal loner instead of a selfless hero.

I was a little disappointed by 'The Sinister Six' (still with Lee and Ditko before they fell out).
I've been reading stories with this iconic team of villains for as long as I've been reading comics but, honestly, their first appearance is pretty lacklustre. I think it's the fact that they make a whole point of teaming-up because they can't beat Spider-Man alone, but then immediately decide to face him one at a time. The shameless plugs for other comics via pointless cameos by other superheroes didn't help either.

'Happy Birthday' from Straczynski's brilliant run with the wall-crawler is far better, however. When New York's heroes fight an interdimension horde of Nameless Ones, Spidey and Doctor Strange are scattered across time and space by Dormammu. This leads Spider-Man to re-live pivotal moments of his timeline and have to reassess all of his past mistakes, whilst faced with the choice of interfering and preventing himself from ever being bitten by the spider.
Sure it's a bit corny and self-referential but it allows us to revisit some iconic comics moments, as well as giving Peter his mission-statement going forward. I have to admit that the fact that this story is from when he and MJ were happily married helped me like it, because their relationship has always been something I've loved (damn you 'One More Day!').

Nice introduction of Spider-Man, with a remake of the Spider-Man first adventure in Amazing Fantasy #15, and although I'd rather have the original version, the new drawings and colors were competent enough, so it didn't bother me that much. Then you have the first Spider-Man annual, which is also the first appearance of the Sinister Six. Even if you have never read a Spider-Man comic before, you can understand what is happening, and it's a nice time capsule seeing Betty Brant as the love interest of Peter Parker.

Finally, you have the birthday arc of J. Michael Straczynski, which is a nice introduction of his run, and it's full of heartwarming moments and throwbacks to iconic moments of Spider-Man that you most likely know even if you aren't a fan of the character, like the death of Gwen Stacy or the moment where Spidey is trapped under rubble. I have never read the Straczynski run before, but I enjoyed this arc so much that I'll definitely read it later, so if you want a sample of his work, along a few extras, you should absolutely read this.

This is why Spiderman is so valuable in the Marvel universe. Straczynski knows how to bring the good old conflicts that make Spiderman one of the greatest superheores ever, one that inspires readers, with good adventures where he shines over the Avengers or the F4. Also, having the classic origins story modernly colorized is a great plus.

(This review may contain spoilers).

I watched the slightly older films of Spider-Man and I have to say, I was intrigued by a superhero whose 'real' life was that of a teenager. I've always been fascinated by the masked heroes - it's the air of mystery.

I've never before been that interested in superhero comic books. When I saw this collection advertised, though, it was after I was getting interested in the films... so getting to know the original characters was too good an opportunity to pass up. So I signed up to get these books delivered to me.

It was really interesting to see these focal points to Peter Parker's character. I liked seeing his origin as Spider-Man and I also found it interesting that he originally seemed unwilling to work with the other superheroes.

It was also fairly interesting to see glimpses of the other superheroes in the second comic contained in this book. I liked seeing Peter's reactions to them. Some of his quips were amusing and I particularly liked the first Birthday comic - particularly the first scene. Then again, the last scene in the final Birthday comic was pretty emotional.

Although I didn't know a lot of the characters who appeared in the comics, I found them really easy and quick to read. It was also good to see the thought processes behind the creation of Spider-Man. It was interesting that he was originally going to be scrapped.

I actually have Hawkeye's issue to read, but it has to be fairly low on my list of to-read books, what with First-Reads giveaways and NetGalley.

The second of Hachette’s Mightiest Hero series. The origin story is given a modern sheen with a restored an coloured version from the character’s fiftieth anniversary but the volume falls apart a little with the main feature. The Happy Birthday two-parter is fine but to bulk it out to graphic novel length they’ve had to feed in two one part stories, the first of which fits at least thematically with the intention of exploiting Spider-Man’s past but the second of which comes across as pure filler. Something of a patchwork effort.

Classics: I'm not sure if other editions of this 'Happy Birthday' include Amazing Fantasy 15 and the first Annual, but these are golden treasures of Marvel. The Happy Birthday story has an overwhelmed Peter fighting Mindless Ones, and more. Romita Jr is a titan, his portrait of Mary Jane is not one to be missed, Jr. Jr is essential in Spidey's history. Straczynski give us delightful dialogue, clever jokes, and a more than enjoyable plot.

Spider-Man (Vol. II) #57-58, 500-502, y 13 páginas de extras.

Spokojenost.
