There were a good number of recipes in this that I saved to try (haven't made any yet).
I like the concept of pre-made meal plans better than I like the execution -- breakfast was different each day, and some of the lunches seemed either rather involved (like butternut squash soup, that's something I would typically make for dinner and eat leftovers for lunch), impractical (paninis - I guess you could eat them cold), or too light (just a salad). Without any repeats or accounting for leftovers, the plans seemed more inspirational than useful to me.
The book incorporated 'healthy tips' throughout, which for the most part were good (though generic), but a few fell prey to pseudoscience.
I checked this out from the library and found it to include lots of recipes to choose from for every meal . I was surprised though that they did not have nutritional information with each recipe. The book did offer great snack and dessert suggestions that are healthy choices. I will definitely be trying out many of the recipes but can't give it more stars till then.
Since being put on this diet, I've glanced over several books. One thing that many of them are lacking are meal plans and actual recipes. This book has just about everything. There aren't too many elaborate or exotic ingredients. I recommend this book very much.
This is a great resource with 4 weeks of recipes and meal plans. The recipes look easy to make, and the ingredients are not food items that are hard to find. I would have liked pictures of the food, just a personal preference.
A very practical book with helpful meal plans and recipes I actually want to try. I took it out of the library and almost immediately bought my own copy.
A beautiful selection of simple recipes, a four-week plan to get you started, and plenty of tips throughout to help you succeed. There's enough variety here that you could use just this book for quite a long time, repeating the weekly menus every four weeks, and you may never get bored. Once you do, however, any decent Mediterranean cookbook will do, because you'll have learned enough about it in this inexpensive volume to only need a few new recipes here and there.
My one complaint is the weekly menus are arranged awkwardly from a shopping perspective. Recipes with odd ingredients should have been clustered together to take advantage of a single purchase, particularly for perishable ingredients. For example, there are only two recipes that use almond milk (1 cup each time). They are in week one and week four, which would be fine if either one cup at a time is how almond milk is generally purchased or it keeps for weeks, but neither is the case. The authors were so focused on variety that they ended up with a very impractical plan. It's a little more work to rearrange the recipes for a more practical distribution, but over time you're going to end up doing that anyway as you eliminate recipes you don't care for and use favorites more often.
I won this book at Good Reads. I did not want the book for the diet, because I can not stick to a diet for anything. I wanted the book for the healthy and tasty recipes. I was not disappointed. The recipes in this book are tasty and healthy and amazing. I have cooked a few so far. Love this book. Thank you Cindy
This is horrible. My everyday does not include a week one shopping list so long I ran out of paper. Why can't someone write a practical meal plan where you aren't buying hundreds of ingredients to eat for one week. Not practical at all.
I find these mediterranean books somewhat informative but the problem is that most of the recipes are for 4-6 servings. Not very good for a person trying to use it for one person.
Provides a nice overview of the Mediterranean diet. The strength of this book is in the four week meal plan with shopping lists and menus, which would be ideal for someone who will eat anything and is new to menu planning. Those elements were not quite what I needed, but there were some appetizing recipes I will definitely try.
