“So earn me. I won’t mind the effort, I assure you.”

“The effort I expend will likely leave you hobbled in the morning,” he said harshly. “You have no idea what I need to get through tonight.”

Keeping this review short just like the book ...

A Dark Kiss of Rapture was one big TEASE... it was great for the purpose of getting a peak into the Renegade Angels world, what some of the Fallen are about and what to expect in the steam department. This was the beginning of Raze & Kim's story, there was a strong instalust between the two which created feelings one should not feel for a one-night stand. But sadly their story is one put on hold, for they both aren't ready for the next step just yet, pressing pause to take care of business and preparing themselves for more. This short erotic read really had no ending just the promise of what is to come, it's something I will continue at some point, but there wasn't enough "tease" to draw me into the next book immediately.

The only good thing I can say for this book is that it was short! I'm not typically one to strongly dislike a book but for this I have to make an exception!
Fallen angels who lost their wings and souls for falling in love with a mortal. So they are turned into Vampires. And what the heck, why not throw in some rabid lycenthropes too?! Really? I feel like my hands just suffered from some kind of freaky finger diarrhea just from typing that!
The main charactors are nothing to rave about either. The main woman decides to pick up the main man, a fallen angel/Vampire when she sees him in a bar obviously looking for a one night stand and decides- based on nothing- that a fling with him would be just the thing to help her get over her trauma riddled life. But OH WAIT! They fall madly in love with eachother, again based on nothing. All of this dispite the fact that the main man is described as a womanizer who will have quicky sex with any willing and available woman.
There was nothing believable about this book and nothing engaging enough to encourage me to suspend my disbelief.
But I did like the cover art.

This is technically book 0.5, but I'm glad I read it after book two because I feel like it made me enjoy it more than I would have otherwise.

Reading this before book one would have made it lose its punch - I would have been kind of lost as all the world building and character type explanation is done in book one.

So personally, I would recommend this be read after book one, if not book two.

It was too short a read for me, and would it be too much to have sequel or can it be here so I can just say onto the next, without a doubt though I was hooked from the moment Kim hit on Raze 😉

He's dark angel and all, and she's all prim and proper, but the combination that these two create just makes it more wow. I like how Kim isn’t afraid and when she made the first move, I was like yes not after what she's been through. I’m sure we haven’t heard the last about these two but there’s definitely more to this story, and I can't wait.

Raze is one of the "Fallen," an angel fallen from grace, stripped of its wings and soul, leaving behing an immortal blood drinker who cannot procreate. He is the only one of the 200 "Fallen" who has never experienced the love of a human. He has insatiable appetites of another kind though, and feeds them nightly. Raze is a "hunter" and hunts and kills the outlaws of the vampire nation and their minions. He has done this for hundreds of years, but this job in Chicago has him feeling out of his element, until he meets Kim. Raze walked into the dimly lit bar looking for an outlet for this nervous energy that had been piling, and he was looking to expend it in his usual way with his usual target. The curvy, blond bartender with the waist length dreadlocks and tatoos down both arms was just the antidote to his current condition. At least, that is what Raze thought until the beautifully elegant black-haired beauty approached him offering her own cure. While Kim was sure to be the cure for Raze, Raze was also going to fill some of the emptiness in Kim's life. While they both only planned on one night of passion that would drive them to exhaustion, they were in for a whole lot more.
A novella of quick and steamy lust. An interesting story of fallen angels interspersed with a complicated relationship to vampirism and shifters. Although the basis of the story was interesting, I felt as if the real story had just gotten started when it ended. It ended right in the middle of the newly blooming relationship between the hero and heroine. It leads me to the assumption that it must continue in the next book, but the short introduction/summary of the next book to come out describes an entirely different scenario and characters? I'm more than a little confused, to say the least. It was a very frustrating ending.

Being drawn into a battle he was not prepared for yet, Raze went to Chicago to see just what the minions had in mind for him. Knowing it might be a trap, he called on the Angel (Adrian) that was tasked with keeping the Fallen (Vampires) alive to live with their punishment. Looking for a release and a distraction for the night, Kim McAdams hit on the handsome, stranger Raze. For some strange reason she felt more comfortable with him than she had with anyone in such a long time, if ever. Not being able to tell Kim the truth about what he was, Raze knew something would have to give, soon.

Prequel ..... Actually liked this one till the end. The ending leaves it a bit unresolved for me, but since I missed this one and read Touch of Crimson first - so glad I took the time to go back to read this one. Getting a little bit of the Vampires point of view was neat. To see how they are really kind of working together for the greater good was something I didn't get in Touch of Crimson.
- Got a new Kindle for Christmas and immediately found this novella (free on Amazon - yeah).

There was nothing special about this book. It was so average and boring, that I was close to giving it 1 star. The good thing was, a) it is/was free, b) it is short.

The characters are characterised below
- Raze: a paranormal law enforcement agent. Big, strong, dangerous. Insatiable appetite. Used to one night stands (in fact, the novella begins with an one night stand which resulted in impaired senses that led to a dead body on his doorstep).
- Kim: is posh and high class, not what Raze is usually used to. She does not normally do one-night stands, but is willing to bend her rules for Raze (predictable?... very). After their one night, they both realise that the have a "connection"...

Bad guys enter the story. Raze vanquishes them all. Returns to his fated female. End of story.

I am still a bit confused to tell you the truth. This story is a short story & with all the characters that were introduced there was no background on them. It was hard to keep straight who was who & what they did. The romance part of the story was the only part that made sense. Although with the 3 main sexual encounters of the 2 main characters Raze & Kim the last encounter is the only one that was hot an steamy. The 1st two where skipped over & a tease to be honest. Which is a shame because Sylvia Day can write hot & steamy very well.

It was a little confusing about the differences between the angels, watchers, fallen, etc. I had to keep flipping back to the glossary in the beginning to keep everything clear.

This was pretty good, the story was better than I expected, but the smexy times were a bit of a disappointment. One gal who's reviews I follow, said this one should be read after book 2. And even though I haven't read book 2, or even book 1, I would have to agree. I had no idea who any of the people were and had no reference to most of the things they were talking about. Sometimes I can deal with that, but I'm a stickler for reading a series in order. And even though this book technically comes first, I still felt like I was dropped into the middle of an ongoing story line and that bugs the shit out of me. Also…Raze is a stupid fucking name. That being said, I'd like to see where his and Kim's story goes. I'd also like to see what else happens in the other books. But it's definitely an "if it goes on sale/if it offered on KU" type of curiosity. Not an "8 dollar a pop" curiosity.
Also on a weird side note…the cover of this changed on goodreads while I was reading it. And while this cover is a serious improvement, the other cover fit a few challenges that I'm doing right now…which was why I plucked it off my kindle to read next. So…not really a criticism, and not even "book related"…but apparently I'm annoyed enough about it that I find the need to bitch about it…that is all.

Women didn't connect with him beyond the physical, he didn't give them enough of himself to get that close. It wasn't deliberate on his part; he just didn't work that way. He'd dealt with infatuation and even sexual obsession that women mistook as love, but it was always fleeting. Quickly come and gone. But Kim…she needed what he was capable of giving. It moved him that for once he could fulfill a need that was more than skin deep.
Her hand on his face slid upward, her fingers tracing the arch of his brow. "I'm glad I found you."
He pressed his lips to her forehead, wondering what she saw in him that put warmth in her eyes.

~

"What if you're the best thing that ever happened to me? Am I going to spend the rest of my life wondering what could have happened if I'd been strong enough to try? I don't want to live the rest of my life with those questions."
"I'm pretty sure I'm the worst thing that's ever happened to you," he muttered. "Let's clear that up now."
"And I'm pretty sure you could turn into a werewolf during full moons and I wouldn't care."
"What?"
"Or maybe a troll on Wednesdays. Maybe you're a vampire, and that's why I haven't seen you eat."
"Christ." He couldn't help it; his lips twitched with the urge to laugh. Which was just part of her magic. He was a different person with her. And he liked being that guy. Liked being her guy.

The absolute seduction of this story played me for a fool. What was up with the fade to black sex???

Kimberly was hard to understand. She came from a family of cops so understood the need for someone in law enforcement to keep secrets, but she’s supposedly wealthy. Where did the money come from? And why was her wealth important?

Raze and his fellow fallen were interesting, however, it felt like I was dropped in the middle of a story when it came to their origins and connection.

A Dark Kiss of Rapture? A Quick Bit of Bollock-All, more like - writing this review will probably take me longer than my reading did. How this has managed to get an average rating of 3.68 on Goodreads is beyond me - I can only imagine that there are an awful lot of significantly time challenged and very easily pleased people out there. This would appear to be a taster for Day's Renegade Angels series, but instead of building my appetite it's put me off entirely.

Raze is one of the Fallen - former angels who lost their wings and became vampires. Now roaming earth, the Fallen are policed by the Sentinels (angels) and their lycan backup squad, while also apparently being engaged in some sort of face-off with a bunch of rogue vampires and their minions. I've no idea why I'm explaining this to you as it's barely important other than for a quick couple of scenes in which baddies are dispatched easily, but I expect this will also be the back story to future books in the series. Just about the only thing I found interesting in this entire set up was the fact that Raze and his Fallen pals apparently all chose their own names when they came to earth. Considering that they're got such naff names as Raze, Crash, Salem and Torque, one can only assume that fallen angels are actually emo teenage girls.

Raze is a womaniser and has never understood his Fallen friends taking mates - until he meets Kim, that is, a "prime choice female" (ugh) with whom he falls in insta-love after she picks him up in a bar. Soon they're both gazing at one another with need and sensing what movies the other will like, because when you fall in love with someone that apparently happens, along with you both enjoying exactly the same things. (This is news to me, as my partner of 15 years wouldn't be caught dead watching Jersey Shore, loves football and listens to the sort of music which I think sounds like the CD jumping. But I digress...) Now Raze must protect the woman he loves from becoming his enemies' target...apparently. We wouldn't really know as the bloody novella ends as soon as this comes up. And for a novella that promises to be erotic, it's not like we even got any good sex scenes in the meantime as each time we built up to the moment, we'd suddenly be whisked away to give our couple some privacy.

At one point Kim muses on a film they're about to watch, which stars fallen angels. Raze's wondering if they're vampires too prompts her to say: "That might actually be a cool story. Maybe some werewolves too? Like Underworld with angels? Could be interesting."

To this I reply, "Not fucking likely, if this is anything to go by."

The Review
I enjoyed this book it was a great introduction in to the world of the renegade angels, it tells the tale of Raze and how by chasing the fallen and Baron, he finds true love, Raze was the worst of the fallen angels, all the others fell for love but not Raze, he just has an insatiable lust, he thinks Kim is good for a good one when he meets her in the bar, he soon realises that will change, I loved the world that Sylvia Day has invented here, I would love to live in it, especially with Raze, That man is just perfect in everything he does, Can you Please send him my way, I would put this on a par with The Brotherhood by J.R. Ward but with Angels, I can’t wait to read the rest of the Renegade Angels series, I would highly recommend this to everyone I know, I will be getting the others as soon as I can 5/5

Original post at FANGS, WANDS & FAIRY DUST http://tinyurl.com/freebiefangs

This was free on Kindle and after reading BARED TO YOU I wanted to read another tale by Sylvia Day to see more of her writing style. I really enjoyed the love story part of the book, and I also enjoyed the world Sylvia was building after a bit. At first I was confused by the new names and relationships.

This is a quick novella, so unless there is going to be a paranormal destiny reason later in the series, I did feel the mutual attraction to emotional attachment was a bit sudden or ungrounded. But within a short story Sylvia did manage to get a lot of character development in, and relayed the world-rules information skillfully. There's also a fair bit of suspense.
If you want to read some of Sylvia's work this is a good starter at a great price and as a prequel should be a great intro to the series. I like these freebies because they give you that idea of whether you're going to enjoy the writer's work and I can tell you about this freebie. After all, the book might be free but your time probably is at a premium. The intimate scenes in BARED TO YOU are more graphic than in DARK KISS OF RAPTURE but it is still steamy.

Do you like these KINDLE freebies? If you don't have an e-reader do they just tick you off?

I read A Dark Kiss of Rapture by Sylvia Day to see if I would like the Renegade Angels series. It is a very short read and since it was free on Amazon, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try. The story is about the Fallen which are actually the fallen angels that have become vampires and I was compelled to read this just for that fact! Raze is part of the Fallen, a soulless immortal and other than hunting rogues he spends his time finding pleasure with women to curb his desires. No woman has ever meant anything to him and he obviously doesn’t know what the appeal is for those who claim to find love. That is until he goes to Chicago on a mission to hunt rogues and meets Kim McAdams. She instantly captures his attention and his heart. He is left questioning what this instant connection between them is.
Since this is a bit of a teaser for the Renegade Angels series the book ends before I could figure out too much and but it was only a 60 page sneak peak so I wasn’t expecting much. The book did have a few grammar errors but other than that it was fine. I don’t know if I will end up reading this series. I think I have decided to check out Sylvia Day’s Crossfire series instead. That series seems to receive great reviews and I don’t know that ‘A Dark Kiss of Rapture’ was enough to commit me to the series.

I had to work really hard to finish this one.

I can't even provide much of a summary, as I feel the story was all over the place. What I can tell you, is that I really looked forward to the scenes with Raze and Kim, and dreaded portions of the book that had more to do with the "plot." I felt there wasn't enough backstory or direction.

Perhaps reading the rest of the Renegade Angels series would help to clarify some of my confusion, but I doubt I could after this less than promising introduction.

That being said, Sylvia delivered in the chemistry between characters, as always - it really is her strong point. Raze and Kim are so different, and yet are so magic together. This made the book worth reading.

Overall, I recommend this book to readers who like a fantasy and are capable of piecing together a weaker plot. Perhaps my lack of paranormal reading experience led to my confusion, I simply thing the plot could be much better in both explanation and integration.

A Dark Kiss of Rapture by Sylvia Davis is a pleasant read. It follows the basic good versus evil you find in many tales. This story has a different slant. Raze, at one time was an angel. During the early human civilization, some of the angels mated with humans. They were punished with their wings and souls being removed and they were the original vampires and they became known as the fallen. They destroy the minions of the vampires and the fallen who feel that humans don't deserve this world. The Good Fallen protect humanity along with the sentinels who police the earth. They have no love for the fallen. While following a lead to Chicago, Raze asks Adrian, the head of the sentinells for assistance. They kill the Baron and hundreds of his minions. Winding down he heads to a bar and makes a play for the bartender until Kim walks up and tells him he wants her. She's with her friends and Raze is aroused. Kim goes back to his hotel room. Next thing you know Kim is wanted by Razes enemies. Raze will do anything to protect her.

The love story portion of the novel was cute , but too short to really get into it. The real plot would have been ok, but we were just thrown into the middle of a world that seemed pretty complex, however the actual world-building was non-existent (we are given a glossary with terms to help us figure out what is what and who is who, but it's too much information for such a short novella!...)... I liked the romance aspect, though, and i wish it was concluded - i'm assuming we find out what happens to Raze and Kim in the following books?

I thought this was a novella but this turned out to be an introduction to this PNR world and basically a prologue of the relationship between our heroine and Raze, the sexy vampire.

There is some mystery plot where Raze is hunting some rogue vampires but my eyes glazed over while reading too so tbh it could be Humpty Dumpty for all I retained.

The world feels a lot like other PNR worlds that I’ve read - kind of like the Guild Hunter series by Nalini Singh - or frankly like any fallen bad-boy romance series (Immortals after dark, the J. R. Ward series etc etc). Not sure if this was a unique enough introduction for me to continue.

In the end I would have said that this is an ok series and more of the same which could work if you’re looking for an Angel / Vampire series - however, this particular book is not a complete story and left off without a resolution for the romance. I find that a cop out and for that I’m giving it one star in the end.

The lady was STUNNED to discover a novella without an instalove confession. Good soup 😘👌

Vashti 🥰
Raze 🥵
Kim 💃
Adrian 🤮 As Vash said, "Fuck him and the high horse he rides."

"It was the nail in her coffin, she knew. There wasn't a woman alive who could resist a man who paid attention to her, who made her feel like she was the only other person in his world."

Also, love that Sylvia day described her own series in this one as "Like Underworld with angels? Could be interesting." because that is exactly the vibe we're getting from this great, but still unfinished series 😘👌

Should've been a full-length novel though. I need to know where the story goes. Unfinished business, just as this series is.

A Dark Kiss of Rapture is a steamy, fast-paced paranormal romance that delivers exactly what you'd expect from Sylvia Day—intensity, passion, and a touch of danger. The chemistry between Raze and Kim is electric, and while the novella format means the world-building and character development are a bit condensed, it still manages to pull you in. A quick, satisfying read for fans of dark, seductive romance. Will definitely finish the series

This short book was a really good read and I definitely want to know how it ends because that little cliffhanger just have you begging for more... Definitely a good start to the series and can’t wait to dive more into it... A DARK KISS OF RAPTURE (Renegade Angels Series) by Sylvia Day

A DARK KISS OF RAPTURE is a free e-novella (October 2011) in Sylvia Day's Renegade Angel's Series. There is plenty of background and pertinent information that Sylvia includes at the beginning of the storyline-descriptions of Angels, Fallen, Lycan, Minions, Vampires etc and how each was created, made and or inspired. To be honest, without the information I would have been lost.

Kim is a young woman who hides the pain of the murder of her best friend. Hoping to forget for a little while, Kim approaches the brooding stranger, sitting at the bar, staring into his drink. Like herself, Kim senses he needs a few hours to forget about life. And if she were lucky, he would forget with her.

Raze is a Fallen (a former Watcher now forced into vampirism). Stripped of his wings, he is one of 200 Fallen on earth, but unlike so many others, Raze has never known what it is to find love or be loved. And tonight was no different. Finding an eviscerated human on his doorstep was a warning and Syre and Vash knew Raze would take responsibility and hunt for the person(s) responsible. Heading to Chicago, Raze's first inclination was to head to the bar and pick up someone for the night. What he didn't expect was to find a woman who would need him as much as he needed her.

Raze knew that his time with Kim was temporary, but there was something about Kim that drew on his emotions. It was something he did not want to look at too closely. And Kim felt it as well. Unable to share his true identity with Kim, Raze was hoping that one day Adrian would grant Raze permission. But his time with Kim had placed her life at risk. Hunting the vampires and their minions had exposed Kim to the very beings he was hoping to find. The threat to her life was something that Raze vowed he would stop. Now that he has found her, he will stop at nothing to ensure she is safe.

A DARK KISS OF RAPTURE is a short story, a quick read. I will not say it is an easy read, because I would go back and forth trying to keep track of the different categories and labels for the varying characters and their identities. But it was FREE and I did enjoy the storyline. A DARK KISS OF RAPTURE caught my eye because of the author. I was first exposed to Sylvia Day through my read of BARED TO YOU-her new Crossfire series. I am looking forward to reading future storylines in the Renegade Angels series.
