Vicious Sentiments

Rate this book
I found brothers who share everything... including me. The icy waters below the bridge call to me.
They promise to make the pain stop.
But then he appears, claiming his expensive car broke down.
I shouldn’t trust him.
I shouldn’t sit with him for the rest of the night.
And I definitely shouldn’t let him take me across the country, especially when he pulled out a gun and exchanged goods with sketchy people at a port.
Because I know men. They take what they want and they don’t care how they hurt you in the process.
But there’s something about Julian.
Maybe it’s the way he breaks the nose of the guy who put the bruises on my arm.
Or maybe it’s because he makes a point not to touch me.
Or maybe it’s because I’m just that weak in the face of a gorgeous man.
A gorgeous and rich man who is ten years older than me.
And did I mention he has a brother? Cape is dangerous and deadly, with a rap sheet of over thirty people he's suspected of taking out.
Either way, nothing they do to me could be any worse than what I’ve already been through.
Unless I’m not as tough as I think I am, and their family business finally breaks me.

Vicious Sentiments is a standalone dark why choose romance. It is a spicy slow burn and intended for those 18+ and has trigger warnings. There are touch her and die vibes with an emphasis on who hurt you.

UNDERAGE FOR WHAT REASON spoilers

Out of ALL the ways to write this book, you decided making the men into groomers was a wonderful thing. i really dislike books that start the FMC being 17, there’s really such better ways especially when the book is meant to be smutty. I only finished so I could see the end and it was an interesting twist but you never get into the guys world which is what this book would make you think. You never see the ex again tho he held such a big role in messing up our FMC. Was going to be 1 star but once she was legal it was a decent book, still majorly ick’d tho.

Overall I just found this book to be too drawn out. Over 400 pages of a bunch of teasing between these characters that led to basically nothing, and then it was suddenly over with no closure? I'm seeing different things regarding a second book so I don't know for sure if there will be one for these characters or not, but either way the ending left a lot to be desired. And by that point I was skimming anyway since the story started to feel repetitive.

Why is nobody talking about the ending? Conflict resolution, who? None of the "problems" were solved. I literally ended it and immediately thought, "Oh, there's a book 2" there is not (that I'm aware of). I'm so disappointed.
I can overlook the fact that the FMC is underage, even though it adds nothing but an ick/taboo factor. I'm more upset that the issues brought up in the book weren't wrapped up? The only "issue" that was wrapped made no sense (how did he even find the FMC in the first place????)

Vicious Sentiments is my first read by this author and definitely won't be my last. My goodness, anything and everything you can possibly feel is in this book. These characters and their story will completely consume you and leave you feeling totally depleted. This book had my emotions all over the place from the very first page. Now before you get all "awwwwwww" there's LOTS of steam, danger, chaos and excitement. Remember EVERY emotion.....  Vicious Sentiments is fantastic and I definitely recommend reading it!

She was saved by him, and his family, only to nearly lose them.
An absolutely remarkably written book, that i cant wait to read the next one, about one girls fight to find herself after years of torment. Even if it's in the loving arms of a rich family who's secret life could have everyone she loves killed.

I was terrified the whole book.

Hailey did built confidence, and I’m sure she’ll eventually grow into a great women. But this is not a romance book. It’s a coming of age, mixed with open ended criminals, and a dash of mysterious men. We don’t really learn anything other than our girl reclaiming herself. The men in this book are so background it’s crazy, because we have no clue who they are at all, and we never will.

I do hope Margo gets her buff buff man

Is there going to be a second book?

I loved this book. My only question is if there is going to be a book 2? Because the ending was so abrupt. I felt like I needed 50 more chapters. There are so many holes. I need more of the relationship development. I need to know what's going on with the business. There was no epilogue. It just ended, and I felt like we were in the middle of a chapter

Wow!
I went into this book blind, and wow!!! I'm so glad I did. From the beginning it captured my attention and I didn't want to put it down.
There were a few twists and turns and some things I didn't expect at all.
Filled with secrets, tension, suspense and steam.
At first I hoped that we could have gotten more than just the FMC pov. As I continued to read though, I realized that it only added to the mystery and secrets of the story. The author did a fantastic job of showing and proving the other characters feelings.

I loved Hailey. She is definitely a survivor, but she is also resilient and strong. I loved seeing her growth and confidence.
I loved both Julian and Cape as well. They balanced each other out well, and offered Hailey something different.
Honestly, all the characters had my heart at some point. They have all been hurt or broken in some way. You could feel their love and loyalty to each other. I even hurt for a certain character for a little bit. I won't give away spoilers.

I loved the storyline, the characters, the spicy scenes and the ending was perfect! 👌

The here a bunch of talk and no action they say they will kill all the people who hurt her. Her dad her ex boyfriend her teacher and then they never go after them and kill them like they should. I hate books where the guys says they will kill them and don’t. She was ok but she should have screamed seriously how dumb can you be to walk outside away from protection right after her sister is hurt 3 houses down. She just was not very smart and that bugged me so the fact they they did not hunt down and slaughter her abusers and how dumb she was made this a 2 star read

New author to me!

I enjoyed this story, from start to finish. I like that it had so much story behind it, you got a glimpse of all the characters and got to know them well and see how they develop throughout. It was a slow burn but definitely worth the wait. Why choose! Touch her and die vibes

No

So I only got to page 127, but I couldn't finish. The FMC is 17, and the MMC is mentioned to be late 20s. I thought this book would fast forward to when she is older, but it doesn't look like it. Not a fan of underage stories

Well…. This book was an experience

I want to mention that I actually quite enjoyed reading this book besides its flaws and plot holes. I ended up reading it all in pretty much one sitting and it definitely got me hooked. The idea this book explores isn’t revolutionary and it definitely is a kinda basic book. I’d say this is more of a book you read once and move on. It’s more of a book you don’t really have to think too deeply to get into the story. A 3 star rating is all this book can really get as it didn’t really explore many of its issues and had a few scenes that were unneeded.

First things first, I want to go over the aspects and scenes I did like about the book.
1. Marney
2. The portrayal of depression
3. Cape consoling FMC

To start, Marney was one of the only reed king characters in this book. She seemed to only be put in so that the FMC can experience having a friend. But I think Marney did more than that. She added a nice bit of humour to the book and I was always eagerly awaiting her next appearance.

Secondly, In my opinion the author did a good job describing the mental turmoil depression can have on someone. How it affects their decision as well as how it can lead to panic attacks. I honestly really enjoyed how death was portrayed as something peaceful and beautiful rather than evil. It was a nice way to explain the FMC sense of reality.

And finally, there was one scene in the book that I feel really left a lasting impression. That was when Cape was helping FMC try and heal from her past trauma. His words of “don’t eat it” were very powerful and it was a scene that expressed his desire for her to heal and his own healing

Now…let’s go over the things and scenes I did not like
1. The unneeded scenes
2. Dillon
3. The age

This book has a problem of something that I’ve seen growing in popularity within authors. And don’t get me wrong, it definitely caught my attention and made me read the book but it also made the book longer than it needed to be. I can understand and appreciate the need for breaks within the story so we can see more of the daily life but this book, considering its length had a few too many. The scenes I’m talking about in this book are the birthday, the Halloween party, and the driving test. I won’t go into too much detail but these scenes hardly progressed the plot at all and were just mainly there to be taken over to a social media platform and used to indice readers.

This book also had an unneeded and frankly annoying charecter. Dillon. In this book, Dillion was really just that annoying rash that would not go away. His only mane purpose was to agitate cape or make the FMC uncomfortable. If this book didn’t have him in it, the outcome would have been the same. I would have appreciated him more if the author further progressed the idea that he hated the family. But instead, he just brewed in his anger and was weird.

And the most controversial aspect of this book. The age. I honestly believe that the author didn’t NEED to make FmC underage. The plot and idea could have been just as well executed if she was older, possibly 19,20 or even 21. Her age is only really used so that the whole book isn’t filled to the brim with smut. Her birthday was just a weird shift in the book where it became ok for them to get at it. The point that Julian was waiting till she was legal could have easily been replaced with his waiting for her to heal from her past. The desire and neediness she had for him while underage was definitely odd, considering her past trauma. IM NOT SAYING that she can’t be interested in it because of what happened. But it could have been written as her being afraid of the experience instead. There could have been a nice moment where she chose to engage in it and they went at her pace, showing that the event isn’t something she needed to be fearful of.

Overall, the book isn’t something amazing. As I stated before, it’s a book you read once and that’s it. It’s a somewhat fluffy book about found family and healing from trauma. Would I recommend it to someone? Honestly…I would. It’s not a book you need to get too invested in and it’s a nice one shot. However the ending is unsatisfactory and if your someone who likes a well developed plot where every character has a purpose…then this one might not be for you.

good but long winded

Check trigger warnings. Detailed mention of SA, 10 year age gap, FMC is 17 but MMCs wait til she is 18, poly relationship.
Thoughts: long winded. I felt a lot was drawn out.

**spoilers
Hailey has been used and abused her whole life. He teacher started SAing her when she was 14. Her dad physically abuses her leaving bruises all over, and her bf abuses and SAs her. As she is about to jump off a bridge, Julian stops her. He tries to take her home but sees how scared she is when they pull up and he beats her bf up and leaves with her.
Julian and his brother, Cape, are taken by Hailey. They both like her.
Margo (Julian and Cape’s mom) takes Hailey in. Margo has a no BS attitude and says she will not whisper in her house and proceeds to tell her about their family business (gun running). Julian has to go deal with business and get taken but escapes and is lost. He isn’t heard from for days and Cape reluctantly goes to find him. (Cape’s fiancé was kidnapped and unalived because of their business and he feels like a bad omen and doesn’t want anyone else to get hurt). Dillon and Marney are 2 kids she took in years ago when their parents unalived in a car accident. Dillon is cuckoo crazy. He has severe mental disease (sociopathy or psychopathy) he used to take meds for but he stopped.
Someone tries to take Marney but Margo pew pews them and Marney gets hurt and is in a coma for a couple days.
Dillon looses it and says he is going to the police and FBI about their business and that he and Margo are meant for each other. (He has had a fixation on Margo for a long time but she ignores it).
Dillon tries to SA Hailey and is stopped by Cape. It comes out that even though Margo knew about Dillon’s mental disease, she ignored it because she felt guilty for putting a hit out on their father and when the hit came, Dillon, Marney and their mother were not supposed to be in the car.

I think this book groomed me because why did I have to remind myself, towards the end of the book, that the relationship in this book is very weird and icky?

I almost DNFed at around page 70 where Julian (late 20s) takes, Hailey (17) to dinner, gets her drunk (H is very hesitant to drink and J heavily encourages her) , blatantly flirts with her (Hailey leans in to kiss him) , and when an onlooker (an older woman) steps in and calls him out for it, it was made to seem that she is in the wrong. Julian is very smug the entire time (smirking, that gave me the biggest ick, like why are you so confidently flirting with a child???) , tells the woman she is embarrassing herself and gets her kicked out of the restaurant.
Also, Hailey was in a revealing dress (she felt pretty but also very uncomfortable because she has been objectified by men her entire life) and had a panic attack on the way to the restaurant, when she saw how Julien was looking at her (lustfully). Instead of taking Hailey home or offering her his jacked or something he proceeds to take her to the restaurant.

Just because she turned 18 yesterday doesn't mean she isn't a child. Taboo is okay if the characters are soulmates, meant to be together like they couldn't be with anyone else. Hailey liked Julian and Cape because they were the first attractive men who were nice to her and didn't abuse her. She didn't have anyone love her before them, her entire life had been day-to-day hell.
Honestly liked Cape better because he admitted his morals weren't as strong as Julian's and kissed H before she was 18. Julian insisted on waiting for Hailey's birthday like that would actually change anything. He's already a criminal so what does it matter?? XD

Kept reading to see what was going to happen to Hailey. Loved her relationship with Marney, M gifting H the sister bracelets was so cute. The book did get better at the halfway mark but I just didn't believe the love between them. There wasn't an epilogue which I would have loved to read to see how Hailey matured (because you know she was freshly 18 at the end of the book).

This is CRACK. I read this in one sitting. Reading slump who? I'm so glad I saw this reco on tiktok because damn, this was exactly what I needed. I think this is what others would call their ovulation book and ugh it gave me everything I wanted right now. How they met and even how their relationship came to be is just everything. Even the brother's relationship with their mom? That woman had me cackling and sometimes tearing up. And the found family? Ate that shit up. Another fave! I just wish we had an epilogue, but I still love this!! 4.5 ⭐

Dedicated to the girls who haven’t met a good man.
I promise he’s out there.
Maybe even two of them.

“I won’t even ask for anything in return,” his husky breath floods my senses. “I’ll just give. I won’t take. You want that?” 😩

“Every cent, of every bill, on every card, in this wallet, is free money.” He continues to hold it up. “I have everything I need. You can spend without worry.”

“Watching you spend money, using my wallet, is as close as I can get right now to fucking you.” 😩💀🔫

“Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of your girl,” Cape says, throwing a wink over his shoulder, and I’m not sure if I should shudder or melt.

“Well, hello. Interested in the art of bandaging?” A wry and cocky smile on his lips. “If you take off your clothes I can show you a full body wrap.”

“In the future, you can always come in,” I whisper.
“Don’t tempt me,” His voice is little more than a rasp. “Sleep well, baby.”

“I don’t think Julian will mind. We’re brothers, we were taught to share.”

It's a good read.

I thought is was good. But I didn't like how they just ok with Dillon. Clearly he must of had some kind of savior crush. It happens and to throw him into an institution to get rid of him makes it sick. Yes he did a bad thing bit I don't think he even realizes it. The quick up and down. Clearly these people can get away with murder to me she says she is sorry but if she was she would of turned herself in from guilt alone. I felt bad for Dillon in away he went through the worse time of his life. And really if I'm honest why would it be bad if he was actual attracted to her I mean these men are 30 something and with a baby turned 18 year old. They thought it was sick for their mother but not for them I'm so fused actually. But I truly think he just needed help early on. Things didn't change til he was what 19 or so. Clearly he didn't think that way in the beginning. Anyways the ending was just to abrupt. Is there another book coming I'm not sure. It doesn't say. If there isn't that would be a really bad ending. Lol. But I wanted to give it 3.4 stats but I gave it 4 because it was pretty good. I also think that his sister being dismissive of her brother after she was "right" about what she suspected kinda ticked me off. He absolutly loved his sister was devastated by it. Well if there is another book I'll read it I want to know what happens next cause Clearly with the other people after them. Dillon and so on.

Why choose/ dark romance/ MFM/ age gap/ forced proximity/ criminal MMCs/ enemies to lovers/ found family/ touch her and die/ who hurt you/ HEA

Trigger warning: r*pe/ assault/ violence/ alcoholism/ death of a loved one/ abandonment/ mental illness/ attempted r*pe/ SA/ violence/ gun use/ underage drinking/ attempted suicide

I’m sure I’m missing some TW but just know this story is pretty heavy. It was an ok story but I think maybe I’m just in a violent mood because not enough scum bags suffered in my opinion.

A big plot point was that the FMC was only 17 until about 60% of the book was done. The age gap was cringy but what made it worse was everyone else around them kept commenting on how young the FMC looked/was. I don’t think aging her up a year would have hurt the story at all. The whole “oh we won’t do anything until your 18th birthday” didn’t feel like they were taking the moral high ground. They were both criminals so it’s not like they cared about her age legally or they wouldn’t try to kiss her or flirt with her constantly. They made it a point that they were trying to build anticipation but it made me uncomfortable.

It could have been so much more...

First of all, the plot had potential. But the end was botched. So many lose ends...not enough explanation, I would have liked more action and more precision and acuracy. *spoiler* In the begining, the fmc mentioned carvings onto her skin and no reaction from the mls were mentioned. What's going to happen with the Tortellinis? I would have liked to continue reading about it. The driving license test and practice part was futile in my opinion, it didn't add anything to the story. I found myself cringing at some smutty parts too.*spoliers end* It could have been so much more.. I feel like I lost my time with this one. I don't recommend the bonus chapters either. The multi POVs should have been in the story to keep me intertained tbh...but that's just my opinion... The writing was good and easy to follow. Much improvements to be made. The length of the book should've left plenty of room to get into the behind scenes of the mls business too. It's a 1.5☆ or max 2☆☆ for me, sorry..😫

I absolutely loved this book. I was very surprised I did I don’t really like when there is more than one male romantic interest. I have attempted to read why choose before and it’s just not my thing. However while saying that I loved the two MMC in this book at the start one was sweet and the other wasn’t (good brother and bad brother). It was very clear the more you read they both loved her and would burn down the world for her if needed. The spice in this book even tho there’s a lot of teasing I give it 10/10 it was well worth the wait. I loved how the MFC back story feed into her becoming her own saviour in the end bc of the boys. I don’t think I would necessarily get into why chose but I would read a book like this again. I would like of seen the two boys go after her ex and that teacher but overall the book was amazing. It does say dark romance so be warned however it isn’t too dark that’s my personal opinion.

Vicious Sentiments is an mfm, heroine in peril, age gap romance, and I seriously ate it up! Please check up on trigger warnings before picking this one up, as it has some very dark and very vivid storylines.

Hailey has been abused, deceived, and manipulated by every man in her life. A chance encounter with a rich, handsome, dangerous man shows her that the only way her life will get better is if she gets as far away from home as she can.

As she settles into a new normal, she begins discovering how dangerous Julian really is. Along with his equally attractive and overbearing brother, Cape, Julian runs the family business, and oversees dangerous shipments and dealings.

This book is a slow-burn spicy mfm, with Julian, Hailey, and Cape. If you like tension, broody men, and dangerous jobs, Vicious Sentiments might be for you!

I really enjoy this! This kind of story is right up my alley and I loved the characters. I do wish there was a little more to the story. It wrapped up bit too quickly for all that was going on and was missing resolution to the conflicts that were brought up throughout the story. There were also a bunch of places where the story kind of skipped ahead and we didn’t really dive into some of the details of things, as well as various places where I feel like we were left hanging. There were quite a few grammatical errors as well, so I hope there can be some editing done on this in the future. It looks like this is the author’s first work so I will certainly give it a bit of leniency and room to improve. If an edited version of this with some additional details/ expansion and grammatical fixes was made, I would definitely read it again!

Found Family vibes

I went into this book blind. I hadn’t read the synopsis nor any reviews. I was pleasantly surprised. The story captured my attention from the beginning. Hailey was in a dark place at the start but Julian was all in from the get go. He stopped her from making a dark decision and was determined to save her. While I commended his decision to wait on any type of sexual relationship I would have like a bit more steam. But I do understand that Hailey was not ready for that type of relationship. Cape added more a dark dynamic that I wished we could have seen more of. The 4 star rating was given largely on how the story ended. I felt it was fairly abrupt. An epilogue of sorts showcasing the relationship dynamics at some point in the future would have tied things up nicely in my opinion. Overall it was a quick reading story of which I enjoyed.

I steam rolled this book! And to be honest, it wasn't as bad as what some people on here have been saying.
Slight spoilers ahead!

I like the fact that Hailey had come to terms with death, but that she doesn't undermine all that the men of her past have done to her. I like that her walls don't cave straight away, but when Julian and Cape try to help her out and pick up her broken parts she falls for them. It's sort of hard to explain but I get it!
I just wish we would have gotten more of the backstory on some of the characters, this could have been turned into a series with the amount of lore and secrets that was coming out.

But at the same time I enjoy when stories are left a little more open ended so I can create an ending of my own depiction.

Still this gets a solid 4 STARS!!

This one is a head scratcher. Towards the end of the book, Margo's house is attacked and there are no scenes of retaliation, no exposition on how they got the guys that did it, and no conclusion. They just forgot why Marney was in the hospital and why Dillion went crazy. The MMCs don't even return for the final chapter. It just ends. You think there are at least 2 more chapters, but nope.

The books feels like the author was on a deadline and didn't have time to really flesh out the story. It's a little dark and a little taboo (barely legal FMC , just turns 18, and two MMCs both around 30), but it mainly relies on touch her and die. However, ymmv.

So I didnt love this. It felt like there were a lot of unanswered questions even by the end. Sometimes when Id finish a chapter and moved to the next it felt a little unfinished like we skipped a part. For example when julian and cape were in the workout room with her. They wanted a list for who hurt her and I never saw her answer the chapter just ended and moved to something else. Also for everything that happened to her it was vague what we heard which is fine but she never told anyone which I expected in the beginning but then she fed tiny pieces to people but never really talked about what happens. Then on a side note it bugged me she was 17 although I'm glad nothing sexual happened till she was 18.

So much potential

I really liked the whole gang/ mafia vibes of the book. The plot building really kept me intrigued up until I was 50-60% through the book and realized no romance had happened yet. Then once the romance started the gang/ mafia plot just stopped and it was solely the romance. I like a book that keeps the plot going while having the romance. Disappointed that this was a 1 book deal and not a series. It was good nonetheless. I just feel like they built up the background so much there was so much more they could’ve done with the book. The FMC just started to come out of her shell and not be broken and then the book ended. I wanted more of seeing Hailey become a badass and get her license!

4.5 stars!

I loved every chapter of this book. It is a fantastic dark romance read. Hailey’s trauma is approached with thoughtfulness and the respect that kind of story deserves. I really love the relationship progression between Hailey and Margo and Marney, it added a really female touch to the story. So much dark romance hinges on strong themes of BDSM and trauma, but this book really beautifully builds a story of resilience on Hailey’s part.

If you’re looking for a dark, who did this to you, why choose romance - this one is for you. It certainly isn’t the darkest things I’ve read but it definitely leans that way, and will tug at your heartstring too.

Thanks so much to the author for the ARC of this book! ✨
