This might be the hardest homicide case I’ve had thus far. I’ve never had to track down one of my childhood friends.
Nobody thought a women would be so successful as a fighter pilot or as a homicide detective. But this challenge means that I need help from Miles “Scorpion” Gracy.
Our group of friends growing up all went into the military, but Miles and I had a special connection.
Hot chemistry yet personality differences.
We have a secret though; one hot drunken night that I’ll never forget with those green eyes, black hair and a body with bulges in all the right places.
Only Carter’s best friend and former Navy Seal could possibly track him down. Then again, it may take all of us to save Carter.
They say that blood is thicker than water, but what is thicker than blood? The Lifelong friendship, military solidarity and comradery. There’s nothing I wouldn’t do to save my friends.
Thicker Than Blood: Saving Carter is the first book of Clarity Rankin's series Thicker Than Blood. New to me author and a new series, I was intrigued by the blurb but wasn't sure what to expect or if this was going to be my kind of book.
This story sets the scene for what looks to be a dark and gritty miliary suspense, all tangled up in romance between old friends and former comrades in arms. There's military police, new murders and unsolved murders and a mystery surrounding members of their own team. This is a complicated and action packed book where it was difficult to tell exactly where the plot was going - especially as the damaged heroes come together and then bring together their original team (who all happen to be their childhood friends). It's set in a world where there has been a massive war and the powers that be have an almost sinister control on the people, or at least their elite military.
The ending is a cliff hanger, because there has been a lot opened up that needs to be fixed, but the two romantic figures of the story - Miles and Madeleine - have a happy for now ending.

This was a fast paced, action packed story which I assume to be the first in a series. The characters were delivered smoothly, with an integrated history such that readers got a glimpse of them in active duty as well as post retirement. That's not always an easy transition, but Rankin pulled it off superbly. Madeline (Maddie / Reaper) and Miles (Scorpion) team up to root out Carter (Stingray) for answers. In the process, former buddies Dylan (Grizzly), Noah (Cheetah), and Jace (Dragon) are included in the search for answers (and the truth). During the search, a romance develops between Maddie and Miles (years in the making).
What they learn will leave them with more questions than answers. Will they survive to find the answers they seek? Or a resolution? Will Maddie and Miles make a go of it this time?
I am very much looking forward to finding out what happens next for this group of long time friends and military colleagues. This is definately an author to read if your new to Rankin's work. I was fortunate to receive an ARC from her and volunteered this review. Happy Reading Y'all 📚
A very intense story that is full of intrigue and suspense. Madeline and Miles were best friends before everything went downhill but it was him she turned to for help. The group of friends go back to their days of service together and soon gel back into their roles to save themselves from further harm. Action packed the story flies along and makes a good read. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Saving Carter” is an emotional and heart-gripping story that pulls you in from the first chapter. I loved the way Clarity Rankin balanced raw vulnerability with hope, making Carter’s journey feel incredibly real. The characters are easy to connect with, and the chemistry and tension between them kept me turning the pages. It’s the kind of book that leaves you thinking long after you finish. A beautiful, touching read that I’d definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys emotional, character-driven romance.
This was a really mesmerizing book about two lonely souls finding comfort and belonging together. Both MCs had their trauma and things they were hiding from, but it was so lovely to watch them find some peace.

Wow, I’m hooked already! I love that it’s not just about solving a case, but about friendship, chemistry, and trust. The little detail about that one unforgettable night made me smile; it feels like I’m about to get a story full of heart, heat, and high stakes. Definitely my kind of read!
“Saving Carter” delivers a heartfelt romance wrapped in camaraderie and military-life themes. The chemistry between Carter and Miles pulls you in, and the emotional payoff lands nicely. A strong read for fans of contemporary romance with depth.
If you have read this Author before do not miss this story. Right from the start this story grabbed my interest and did not let go until I was finished. The main characters are Miles “Scorpion” Gracy and Madeline "Reaper" along with Carter, Noah, Dylan, Liam, and Jace. There is so much drama, danger, suspense, villains, heartbreak, betrayal and a second chance at a happy ending. I can not wait to read the next book, I will be watching for when it is out. Got hooked right in the beginning. Definitely a book you can't put down. I kept trying to figure out who was behind everything... I wasn't even close. I want more!

I was hooked from the first page! But then, at the end of the first chapter, my heart was ripped out and stomped on! I almost stopped reading right then and there! Yet I pushed on. I enjoy the author's writing style and the clear camaraderie between the group of friends. The banter is great!
Poor Carter has been through so much! Five years later, Carter is on the run. Will the group find him in time? Read to find out!
This ends in a slight cliffhanger. The theory is believable for me.
