Redeeming dark and dangerous heroes one book at a time. Skye Jones is an award winning and USA Today Bestselling Author. She writes dark mafia and contemporary romance as SR Jones, and angsty paranormal romance as Skye.
When not writing Skye can be found reading, dog herding, or watching gritty dramas on Netflix with her husband. She lives in the grey, windswept north of England, which fuels her taste for the dramatic and the gothic.
Cindy meets Nico, a dangerous mobster, when a marriage of convenience is arranged between Nico and Cindy's wicked and hateful stepmother, Yvette. Yvette was left in charge of Cindy's Trust fund and ancestral home left to Cindy after her father's death. Cindy is treated as a servant by her evil stepmother and stepsisters (Iris & Daisy) though one of Cindy's stepsisters (Daisy) is kind to her.
Nico and his mafia "men" move into Cindy's family home leaving Cindy with barely any hope of fighting for her Trust and home. Nico, a notorious playboy, hates and has no desire to marry Yvette and sneaks into Cindy's room to harass and flirt with her. Cindy finds herself fighting Nico's attention and succeeds early on but eventually finds a mutual bond with him and their physical attraction to each other is undeniable.
This dark, twisted fairytale has characters I loved, like Cindy's godmother, Carol, who was always there for Cindy when she was at her lowest and James, Nico's trusted friend and fixer, another memorable character. I absolutely loved this well-written, steamy, dark Cinderella retelling. Enjoyable read!!
House of Ash and Glass by SR Jones & Silla Webb is the story of Nico and Cindy. There is a previous book that introduces Nico and that book is called 'Soul of Sin and Corruption'. Nico is a mafia playboy who reputation is starting to grade on the board members of his legitimize business. Nico has settle to the thought of a marriage of convenience to please those board members and his father. This leads him to Yvette who has to daughters Iris and Daisy along with a Step daughter named Cindy. Cindy is trying to buy her time for when she turns 22 and will get back control of her life and money. But for now Cindy is nothing more that abused servant of her step mother and sisters (although one isn't that evil of a step-sister). I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read more from these authors.
I enjoyed this book, but can't say that I was completely taken by the two main characters until later in the book. The storyline was loosely based upon "Cinderella" with a dash of crime family, wicked step-mother and a young heiress who was fixated on cleaning a stove throughout this book. There were editing issues throughout the book which should have been caught; because they were very noticeable.
Nico's character straddles the line of businessman, crime boss who needs a wife to keep his BOD's off his back. They want a married CEO with a wife with some pedigree to enhance their role in society. He is trying to move his family further into the legal side of business vs., the crime family side so needs to keep the board where he wants them in order to do that. Yvette is the perfect evil step-mother (with a glass art fetish) who initially agrees to marry Nico for a year netting her a big payout because she and her two daughters are shop-a-holics who have blown through most of Cindy's late father's money and is slowing running Cindy's inheritance into the ground (which includes the house). Nico becomes attracted to 21 year old Cindy who is an odd character who hides behind baggy clothing, an obsession with cleaning and often seems younger than she is. She visibly hides from everyone around her and is constantly persecuted by Iris and Yvette. Daisy is more of a friend to Cindy but does nothing to protect her from her mother's wrath.
Nico's obsession with Cindy is a roller coaster ride of good and bad that can turn on a dime. One minute he is thoughtful and concerned and one moment he is telling her she is merely a means to an end.
The ball, the auction and the wedding turns this book on it's ear when a crazed artist enters the picture. The story really gains momentum at that juncture and gets very dark when Cindy is taken hostage and taken to an undisclosed location in the forest. The author does a great job of painting an insane man with an agenda which is to keep Cindy as his muse. He never plans to give her back. Cindy shows what she is made of as she plans and strategizes to escape from her prison and the insane artist. The author goes into great detail outlining how Cindy gets her freedom.
The story grows so much in the later part of this book as Nico and Cindy's love for one another finally reaches the pinnacle that rises above all else. James is a great addition to this story and am looking forward to his story with the young woman trapped in the tower....Rapunzel perhaps? I really wanted to see Yvette and Iris six feet under and was sorry to see Daisy's character included in their fate, but being exiled on an island for a classic narcassistic, is not what it is cracked up to be.
Overall, once I got past the typo's and editing issues and got into the meat and potatoes of this story, I found it very entertaining.
Cindy was probably the worst fmc I’ve read about in some time. I was waiting for some growth but she kept the same ‘poor me’ attitude throughout the entire book. And for as much as she wanted her house, it didn’t seem to matter all that much. Plus, she was stupidly naive for her age which was brought up A LOT but her birthday didn’t seem to matter anymore either.
Tons of repeating from both characters. Nico was annoying and not as charming as he thought he was.
The epilogue was uncomfortable. You’re telling me she never told Nico what that guy did? And he had to find out about her being gagged while he was trying to seduce her? Tf?
What a dark and exciting Cinderella-like retelling by two of my fave authors! House of Ash and Glass literally pulled me into this intense tale from page one to the very end and left me very, very satisfied.
The hero and heroine, dark Nico and sweet Cindy were both memorable characters yet different as night and day from the start but the heroine's godmother, Carole was the magic to me to their great love story.
So readers, if you like intense, dark tales, then read this one...it's a must!
First of all I'm a huge fan of SR Jones. And it was nice to see Konstantin appear here as he was the first book I read of this authors. Silla Webb is new to me but this book smashed it. It is Enemies To Lovers, Age Gap, Forbidden, Mafia Romance and a kind of dark retelling of Cinderella. I wasn't sure what to expect but it was really good. Cindy is still grieving and is left with step mum and sisters. They are losing money, she can't do anything until she is 22 which is in few months time. So her step mum is binded to marry Nico not your usual prince charming by the way. But he is charming in other ways 🥵. Nico isn't happy but needs to sort his reputation to be in charge of business. So has agreed to this fake marriage. What he wasn't prepared for was to meet Cindy. All coveted in soot and messy clothes. Which he decided to name her Cinders. They have such a strong sexual pull it's hard to fight. Nico isn't settling type but he needs to get get out of his system because she is driving him mad. They both play cat and mouse game. What I loved about Nico was how his gentle side seeps out unintentionally around Cindy. He so adorable at times and then turns so crass and nasty. But his depraved ways calls to Cindy and she starts to think maybe she isn't as innocent as she thinks. Both the characters were lovable and was so easy to connect with. I loved little snippets of the fairy tale, like her Godmother and blue dress. Oh the Glass Slipper has a total different meaning in this story and you really need to read and find out because wow it's hot!!!!! There was lots of drama, action, violence, kidnapping, witty banter, flirting, self doubt, emotions, love and burning steam. If you like depraved, Dark Romance, re telling of fairy tale and lots of hot spice then give this a read.
I kind of struggled with this book a few times. It was if I couldn’t get a good flow going long enough to really enjoy it like I truly wanted to. And there were quite a few errors throughout that caught my attention. The storyline itself was fun and intriguing, even if a bit bizarre at times. But it still held my attention until the end.
I loved reading Nico’s POV but sadly he didn’t have as many chapters dedicated solely to him. It was nice being in his head when we could. While he is a vicious mafia man, that part if the story wasn’t really prominent, and in those rare times we got him, I found he ended up being much more than his feared title. And I absolutely loved him.
House of Ash and Glass was a good story, though a little different than what I normally read when it comes to mafia romances. And I did enjoy meeting all the other characters that seem to have stories that have already been told. May have to do some searching for them. Oh, and my interest is peaked for the next book with James. Like a lot!! 4 Stars.
House of Ash and Glass is a dark retelling of the Cinderella fairy tale with a mafia twist which focuses on the relationship between Cindy/Cinders, whose wicked stepmother Yvette takes over her family’s manor and her trust fund until she is twenty-two years old which is in six months, and Nico, a mafia don whose family arranges a marriage of convenience for him with Yvette in order to please his business Board and allow him to eradicate the members opposing him due to his behavior. Nico has a great dislike for Yvette and torments her and her mean daughters as often as possible while a growing attraction to Cindy occurs. Their story has well developed characters, drama, character self-talk, mafia violence, sizzling passion, and unexpected plot twists. I highly recommend this well written book as well as the prequel, Soul of Sin and Corruption. I received a free copy of this book via the authors and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
So I have been reading Silla’s work for years. I’m fairly new to SR’s work. This book took the classic fairytale of Cinderella and turned it on its head. I feel like Alice having fallen down the rabbit hole. Who would have thought a powerful mafia don could be Prince Charming. Nico is dark, dangerous and irresistible. Cindy starts out like Cinderella but becomes a stronger heroine over the course of the book. I loved watching her grow and realize her own self worth! I hope Carol gets a book because that woman was a breath of fresh and one of my favorite side characters.
This book had angst and danger in every chapter. I love how their relationship made Nico and Cindy become better versions of themselves without making the other weaker. I’m always a sucker for a marriage of convenience and then the characters have to eat their words because they fell in love. I can’t wait to read the next book, I’m excited to see what these Queens of dark has in store for us.
This was such a gem! And i’m so happy that i cam across it! It’s mafia romance, it’s cinderella retelling where prince charming is not really charming, and stepmother is absolutely evil! It’s enemies to lovers, it has plot, spice and suspense, and for those of you that read Club Volkov series, you’ll get to see Sienna and some other character you’ve grown to love!
I had mixed feelings about Cindy, she was an interesting character, but in all honestly, i thought it would be her to proposition the arranged marriage to Nico so she could retain her manor. But her character did develop towards the end of the book, and i lived the transition!
But hot damn, Nico!!! My new obsession!!! The guy was everything! And i can’t wait for everyone to meet him, because he’s the newest morally grey character that you want in your harem!
A twisted tale of the classic Cinderella. Cindy's life hasn't been easy since the death of her parents and her step mother takes full advantage of that. We see her battle herself with what she should, or shouldn't, do regarding her life. Her step mother holds a lot over Cindy's head. Unfortunately, this breaks her down. But everything changes for her when Nico comes into play. I love his character. He is a fierce force no one wants to mess with. He's compelled by Cindy right away. They have this dynamic they both try to fight. She doesn't want to want a "crime lord" and he doesn't want anything other than convenience. But as we watch them interact, it becomes clear that their feelings morph. Watching Nico start to fall was amazing. Subtle hints show us his heart, and when Cindy needs him the most, he doesn't hesitate. The story is full of amazing one liners and side characters you can't help but love as well. Cindy's godmother is an absolute riot. She's cheeky, full of sass, and loves Cindy immensely. Then there's James. I had a thought about him, but that was blown away when a certain part happened. His story is going to be just as amazing as this one, I can already tell.
Cinderella-retelling, mafia style! Cindy and Nico are opposites but find they have a shared understanding (after some butting heads of course). The two of them compliment each other, with Nico being Cindy’s ally against her step family and Cindy bringing out a more human side to Nico. They do have their fair share of drama but nothing over the top as you can see these two are a one true pairing. We also have interesting side characters like Cindy’s god mother Carol who knows what she’s doing and Nico’s right hand, James who, at first seemed callous but is one of the most loyal and dedicated right hands you’ll come across. I also liked seeing familiar yet new elements of the fairy tale on top of the suspense and action. Now I look forward to seeing James and Ellie’s story, which seems to be a Rapunzel retelling?
From beginning to end this book is gripping, enticing and entertaining. I was so consumed by these characters and couldn’t put it down!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Nico and Cindy are very interesting, alluring and intriguing characters with a deeply engaging, inviting and sensual storyline. It was great getting lost in this fascinating, powerful and dramatic mafia world.
As for Nico he’s definitely the dominant, possessive and alpha type we all love to fall for🌶️🌶️🌶️
Remarkably written to have you hooked until the very end, and still you’ll want more.
A unique and gritty retelling of Cinderella. Cindy is tolerating her “steps” until the trust will come to her allowing her to keep her home at age 22. Honestly she may not make it another six months.
Even worse, stepmom Yvette needs an influx of cash so an arranged marriage with Nico Andretti has him and his men moving in. Nico is brash and rude - but teaches Cinders (as he calls her) to box, to let out her frustrations. The punching bag comes with a picture of Yvette taped to it!
The impossible may become possible with barter, negotiation, and some seemingly out-of-character respectful moments. Intriguing, scintillating, tense and fabulous. This was an amazing read, which kept me glued to the page.
***** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book *****
I don't think I have enough adjectives in my vocabulary to really describe how utterly amazing and enthralling this story is.
Sentence one drew me in, paragraph one and I knew I wasn't going to be able to put it down until I finished it, chapter one and I knew I wouldn't be able to get enough.
Nico is a character you love to hate. You see glimpses of who he could be in-between his bouts of "did he really do/say that?!". However, personal opinion, Yvette is the worst villain in the story.
I loved seeing the transformation with Cindy. Her character slowly developed from doormat to queen; but she always had strength & resilience. These authors did an phenomenal job at crafting a world easy to fall into, with characters you feel for.
I absolutely loved the nods and parallels as well as the twisted similarities between this and it's un-fractured counterpart.
Retellings or fractured fairytales are a favorite; add in the darkness and morally grey and I am a happy reader. But make it gripping and intriguing and hard to put down and I will need it. This will definitely be an added to my bookshelf, need the physical copy, book. Read at your own risk, but it is so worth it, if you have little to no triggers.
Cindy doesn't have it easy, when her father passes away her whole life and heritage are left in the clutches of the evil stepmother, Yvette, who has no intention of giving Cindy what's rightfully hers, and with the offer of a marriage of convenience Yvette can't refuse, we have Nico enter the scene 😈
Nico is everything we love to hate in our alpha heros, he's not good by any stretch of the imagination, but like Cindy, something just pulls me to him, underneath the asshole exterior we see glimpses of the real Nico
This slow burn novel had me hooked from the first page, I couldn't put it down and didn't want to put it down!
Well done ladies, this story was beautifully written to perfection 🖤
I’m generally not one for fairytale retellings—this book had all the Mafia action I needed to make me a very happy reader. While there’s a wicked stepfamily and a shoe that needs a match, there’s no Prince in this story. Instead, we get Nico Andretti living in Cindy’s childhood home, Ravenbrook Manor, taunting her differently than her stepmother & stepsister. Cindy is weakly playing the long game to get her inheritance but when Nico arrives, her fire comes out full force. Nico loves the two of them sparring & craves her fighting him. The plot was great—a blend of the Mafia Underground I’ve come to expect with a fractured fairytale woven into it. Loved to see the Volkovs and Silvanov make an appearance and am looking forward to James’ story, which I hope is based on Rapunzel.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. OMG I loved this story. Nico is being forced to marry a witch of a woman with 2 daughters and 1 step daughter who is the true owner of the mansion. Nico has to marry for prestige and name. Only his wife to be isn't the one with the name. Cindy the step daughter is. Not only does Nico want to own Cindy body and soul he may not want to give her up. So he comes up with a plan to marry her instead. Nico never thought he would have a spit fire on his hands but he does and he loves the challenge. I also love how Th author brought in Konstantin, Siena and Andrius. I love hearing about those characters.
OMG! I loved the story between Nico and Cindy. This was definitely a different retelling of the story of Cinderella. I loved the depth of these characters, the denial of love, and the telling of learning one's strengths and determination. Finding yourself as the story progresses, falling in love, and fighting the physical attraction you have to one another. Carol was a wonderful character as the godmother, at first I wanted her to do more, but I am glad she didn't as I delved deeper into the book. And Yvette is the best worst stepmother I have read in a long time! And I loved how Cindy and James' relationship changed through the book. I can't wait to read his story!
A dark retelling of Cinderella. Cindy has nothing left and her stepmother plans on taking any possessions that she does have. That is when Nico shows up, and they seem to have a common enemy, her stepmother. What will happen when they begin to fall for each other, will he marry Yvette, the stepmother or will he help his Cinders? Fast-paced read with loads of drama and intense chemistry. Great characters and a fast-paced and entertaining read. I loved it.
This one is a page turner for sure. The story of Nico , who is complex antihero, and Cindy is dark and decadent. I burned the midnight oil reading this kindle melting read. Was a nice surprise to see some old characters make appearances . These two authors blended a great story
Nicos player ways have led him to be forced into a marriage one he makes of convenience with Yvette, the stepmother of Cindy whose home is in trust till she turns. But Nico is soon drawn to cindy like a moth to a flame but he's cruel and unyielding even to her, but when they share a common enemy in Yvette, but will they be able to go the distance. Well written a mafia cinderella take that has you attention through out. The characters make you love and hate them, and draw ypu in with every twist!
Tropes: dark romantic suspense, Cinderella retelling, mafia, age gap
Cindy felt alone with nothing left. Her father's death left her world ruined. All she has left is her ancestral home, but her stepmother is determined to keep it from her. Broken and alone, things can't get worse. Then Nico Andretti arrives. He's a dangerous mobster with a soul as dark as the Devil himself. He claims Cindy as his Cinders but still treats her with disdain. His men desecrate her family home and ruin her last shred of hope. She wants them gone. But when she realizes he hates her stepmother even more than she does, her enemy's enemy could be a friend. His attention on her begins a deadly game. A strange and fragile bond develops, but it's a deal with the devil. He might just burn her world to ash.
This story was an utter joy to read. Cinderella was always my favorite fairytale, and I loved how the authors incorporated bits of the original tale. I loved all the characters that were loveable and truly hated the stepmother and her evil daughter. I especially loved Carol, Cindy's godmother, and Nico's fixer, James. I will definitely be reading his story, coming in October. She had a few other characters from previous books that I plan to read asap. This is going down as my favorite fairytale retellling. I highly recommend this read. This is my honest opinion, freely given.
I was excited to read more words from Silla Webb and having a collaboration with SR Jones gave me a new to me author.
A modern day Cinderella with a not so nice prince to save the day….yes please. I loved Nico from the start. He was quick to put Yvette and her daughters in their place. At first his attention to Cindy aka Cinders was just a way to irritate Yvette but I loved the slow burn that ignited into flames between them.
I felt for Cindy. Always the after thought, a means to an end for Yvette and her daughters. Having Nico around lit a fire in Cindy in more than one way. She found her voice, she found her strength, her fight and her love.
The twist towards the end of the book threw me off a little bit. But the end of the story was pulled together with a HEA that leaves us waiting for the next installment in the series. I am looking forward to more words from these two.
I have read a few 'retellings of Cinderella' that include a token shoe or Fairy Godmother in the story but this is a full on retelling of Cinderella with a mafia twist, and I absolutely loved it!
After Cindy's father died, her wicked step-mother (Yvette) takes over the Scottish family estate and Cindy's trust fund, for six months until Cindy can inherit both. Cindy is still grieving her father's passing and is stuck with her step-sisters and step-mother, forced to clean the kitchen fire and step-mothers glass collection daily as they can no longer afford to employ staff. Yvette has no intention of giving Cindy what is rightfully hers and when a marriage of convenience is suggested, she does not hesitate to accept as obviously, she wants as much money as she can get her hands on.
Along comes Nico - he is everything a morally grey Alpha hero can have and you cannot fail to fall for. He needs to smarten up his image if he is to continue impressing the board, and in order to do so, needs a marriage "of convenience". Nico is not taken in by the wicked and spoiled Yvette, and quickly sets the rules however, one thing he is not prepared for is the attraction he feels towards Cindy.
Once Nico moves himself and his mafia men into the Scottish Manor, he finds himself becoming protective of Cindy, he particularly loves it when she challenges him and it is not long before he is struggling to come to terms with his feelings as they play a cat and mouse game. I loved both main characters, they were not only easy to connect with but I loved how their characters developed throughout the story, Nico softening and Cindy gaining confidence. I loved the addition of the amazing Fairy Godmother as well as the glass slipper - you really need to read this in order to discover exactly what the glass slipper is intended for - not what I was expecting!
This slow burn retelling of Cinderella had me hooked from the start, there was lots of drama, attraction, kidnapping, flirting, doubt, steam, suspense, emotion and humour. I really didn't see the unexpected twist coming towards the end and loved Nico's second in command, James. I feel a 'Rapunzel' story including James might be next?
One last thing I love about the authors is that previous strong characters, such as Konstantin, make an appearance. I highly recommend this book and cannot wait to read more from these talented authors.
When the opportunity came for me to read a book from this author I only had one though... Ti grab it and read it asap. But unfortunately, life as a grown-up sucks and I had to wait a bit to start it but guts, when I was able to start it was impossible to stop. SR Jones is co-writing a book with Silla Webb and Dayum... This book was out of this world. Their writing is raw and wild, intense and dark, and with a touch of darkness into the mix. House of Ash and Glass is their latest release and explores the lives of Nico and Cindy. All Cindy has left after her parents loss was her house. An ancestral home that she wants to preserve but her evil stepmom is a pain in the ass... She's cruel and will do anything to hurt Cindy. Her only hope is to turn 22 and get what belongs to her but... When she thought that things couldn't get worse... They did and in comes Nico... Nico is one powerful man. He's ruthless and doesn't take shi from anyone. In order to gain control of his company, he needs to improve his act and get married. Married to one woman, but he's laying after the daughter and... And Dayum... This book crushed me and put me back together... Cinderella who??? This book was not a fairytale, that's for sure... It was brutal and intense and I couldn't put it down. One chapter lead to the other and I saw myself reading well until early hours of the day. The characters worked perfectly with each other and you can feel their connection, despite all the fighting and cat and mouse game. And the stepbi*** Jesus, that woman was insane... Loved the reference to some stuff from Cinderella's story, but they were so freaking twisted... Loved every single thing and I'm super excited for the next book of this series. I love this type of book and I always want more.
Really solid book! I loved the Cinderella retelling and really liked how the author made the main character and the step mom mutually hate each other. I think if the stepmom liked the mmc it would have cheaper the story so great choice. Enemies to lovers. No third act breakup but she gets kidnapped so they’re separated for a bit.
Summary: Cindy lives in her family manor that has been in her family for hundreds of years. She has an evil stepmom and evil stepsister and a not so evil step sister. Her dad died about a year ago and unfortunately Cindy’s house is put in a trust along with her inheritance and she won’t get it until she turns 22. Yvette (stepmom) has access to it though and is spending most of it. Yvette is running out of money tho so her dad sets up a contract marriage with Nico, a crime boss. He comes to live with them with his men and it’s clear that him and Yvette hate each other. Nico, however, is very much interested and attracted to Cindy. He does a whole lot of stuff for her including buying her a horse because she mentioned it once. Eventually he likes her so much that he devises a plan to marry Cindy instead of Yvette. He plans to pay Yvette 5 million to move to another mansion and break off the engagement. He also threatens Cindy that if she doesn’t marry him she won’t get her family home. Eventually Cindy and Nico fall in love and are at their wedding. Cindy steps outside of the reception for a moment and gets kidnapped by a deranged artist who thinks she’s his muse. She eventually attacks him and escapes running through the woods when Nico and James find her and take her home. Nico and Cindy confess they love each other and live HEA!!! The stepmom and stepsisters are exiled in St. Kitts where they’re never allowed to leave the island ever again.

A retelling of Cinderella, but with a lot more drama, danger, and Alpha male than the original Disney movie. It was a great read and left me wanting more of the characters.
Cinder is left to the wolves after her fathers death and her future is left in the hands of her step-mother along with her step-sisters. The woman only thinks about status and money, of which she does not have. In order to keep her family from true debt, Yvette married Cinder’s father, a man that has status, and money as well as a house that has been through generations of Cinder’s mother’s family. All of it should go to her upon her 22nd birthday, but a manipulative step-mother wants to prevent that from happening.
Nico Andretti is the new head of the Andretti Family and needs a public persona make over. His days of running around with all kinds of women has come to a stop if he wants to be the Leader of the Family. When his mother and father make a deal with Yvette’s father for the two to marry. Yvette is older, but that’s what could give Nico a better footing with the Board of his family's company.
These two are oil and water and when Nico shows up to move into the large house in the middle of nowhere in the Scottish Highlands, there is a lot of fighting, danger, and changes that will come through.
I loved the story and the characters and the story left me wanting more. I love SR Jones’ stories and characters in her books she writes, so it's no wonder I would enjoy this story with the added talents of Silla Webb. I give this book a 5-star review
