Teems of Times and Happy Returns

Rate this book
What sort of background, what sort of family did Dominic Behan come from? It could have been nothing ordinary to have produced so much creative genius.

Dominic Behan tells us the truth, sometimes the hard truth about his parents, their friends, and the tenement street in which he and his brother were reared.

Those were the twenties and thirties when it was difficult to fill the stomachs of the boy. They were also times when gunning in the streets became as much a part of life in Ireland as whiskey and the wake.

And growing up among the Behan's involved action in the political conflict so bitter that men were ready to kill for Ireland and Brendan was sent to Borstal.

Full of the timeless talk of the Irish people, salted by Dominic's humour and wit.
