Soph's life takes an unexpected turn when she is rescued from imminent death by a mysterious vampire. Fuelled with a need to find this day-walking supernatural, She embarks on a relentless quest to locate her saviour.

Though her obsession with her vampire grows, she knows nothing can become of their secret romance. Her grandmother, a powerful witch and the family matriarch, has another man in mind for her granddaughter and always desperate for Nona’s approval, Soph finds it difficult to say no.

Carved From Obsidian by Addie Grey is a steamy paranormal romance full of witches, vampires, and lots of magic! As Soph becomes obsessed with knowing more about vampires, or a certain vampire that saved her, she quickly finds out more about the world around her.

The world building in this book seems to flow well, but there are times where certain parts do seem a little awkward with the flow. However, I did really enjoy the chemistry and spice between the main characters. I love seeing the possessive side of Eli emerge and absolute die for any book with “she’s mine” and “touch her and die” vibes. This book was a fast paced read for me and I would recommend for anyone looking for a spicy paranormal romance!

This book ends on a cliffhanger and I will be curious to see where the next book takes the story! It releases on May 1st, 2024.

Thank you so much to Addie Grey for the chance to read and review an ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.

Wow! Wow! Wow!
I’m obsessed!
I truly had such an amazing time reading this book!

Witch + Vampire coupling, great banter, relatable characters, lots of plot & LOTS of spice to go alongside it.
I loved the modern setting, paired with the paranormal/ fantasy elements. I can see this becoming a much larger story/ world & I can’t wait to see where it all goes.

You have an assertive/ self assured witchy FMC, with the MMC being a billionaire Vamp.. what could go wrong?!..

There’s also some standout secondary characters. Personal favourites being Zita & Chase.

We have conflicts, betrayals, plot twists, this story just keeps on giving. And the cliffhanger ending 🫨

I need book no.2 NOW!

I was incredibly lucky to be gifted an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review and I am so thankful that I was chosen.

This book was absolutely wild in the best way. I genuinely did not know where the plot was going next which is so refreshing considering the overdone tropes in the paranormal romance genre these days.

This books blends intense spice with a driven plot. It is fast paced, action filled and kept my attention the whole time. I would have read it in one sitting if not for the annoying need for sleep.

Soph is so relatable, down to the ex-boyfriend who seemingly ticks all the boxes but has the sexual appeal of a Ken doll.

I will say check your trigger warnings for this, especially regarding instances of addiction. It is a central theme and is dealt with throughly in an intense time frame.

I will definitely be picking up the next book in this series because that ending has left me wanting so much more!

What the every loving shit did I just waste my time reading?? How is this so highly rated?? Characters, dumb and inconsistently written. Plot, all over and boring. Main character, an insufferable useless victim the whole time. Smut, from 0 to 100 at literally 15% in?? Where’s the build?? Naturally it didn’t have anywhere else to go. And to not even be well written smut? A crime. The only reason I soldiered on was because of the amount of high reviews. I felt like it had to get better at some point… it did not.

I’ve never read a billionaire romance, but then make it paranormal…even better.

Sophia is a witch who can’t seem to commit to…anything, whether that’s a relationship or even a coven.
She’s saved by someone who is a vampire and comes to find out he’s a billionaire CEO, and wonders why he saved her and she’s too curious for her own good.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The romance and spice is 👌🏻 I loved the relationship that developed between the two of them. I feel like it was relatable, especially for Sophia who felt like she had to please her family first rather than herself.

Sophia and Eli were great characters! Sophia is this independent gal who thought she had to do what her family wanted, not herself. I loved when she started to focus more on herself and what she wanted. Eli is more of a cinnamon roll than I expected, but a cinnamon roll that takes charge 😏 let’s just say he is a delectable treat and I loved him with Sophia 🥰 They were 🔥

Now, there’s a lot more that goes on in this book than the brief summary I gave earlier. I loved the suspense throughout this book. There were a lot of secrets and even some betrayals that made the plot super interesting and made you read until you finished to know what will happen! And a lot happens in this book! And that ending has me hooked and I need the next book asap!

I read this in one sitting. I think that tells you something. Just read it and enjoy.

There are some heavy subjects discussed in this book, I would definitely check any trigger warnings before reading 🥰

I received a free digital copy to read. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

What doesn’t this book have?!
Everything you could possibly want, delivered!

Witches and vampires? ✅
Forbidden romance? ✅
Billionaires and celebrities? ✅
Red-hot spice? ✅
Magic, sacrifice, drama, and romance? ✅
“She’s mine.” ? ✅
“Touch her and 💀” ? ✅

It’s all there. This book has it all and it’s done well.
Just a few character run downs because there are so many but we can’t get into it all!
🩶 Eli is such a swoon-worthy morally grey shadow daddy! Even if he has some questionable moments, he comes through and we ship it!
🩶 Chase and Cole are such good supporting characters. So many questions about what is going on between Chase and Zita! And also what Cole’s story is… the mention of politics had me intrigued.
🤍 Luie is an interestingly done character, I both love her and wanted to smack her for not being a best friend at the same time. She tries though, and overall approved, everyone makes mistakes right?
🖤 Marco. Omg. Screw Marco! Between his shitty secrets, shitty communication and shitty behaviour (in and out of the bedroom!), all I can say is screw that guy!
🖤 … Do not get me started on her Nona (Theresa) or her mom, Zita, we just don’t have enough words for that right now.

Overall though, I was very impressed with the writing style and the amount of detail that went into very thoughtful plot choices. Writing about addictions and withdrawals is not an easy thing to do, but this was done with such care and attention to detail. There are so many events that happen it’s hard to keep track of everything, yet it all flowed together perfectly in a beautifully balanced way. The result was a fast-paced, binge worthy read that had me immediately addicted. Please make more of these books! I need to know what happens next!!

“Make it messy. Make me regret you.”
...

“Oh, you’ll beg, pretty witchling, and when I’m through, you’ll very much regret me.”
...
"Please"

“Oh, Soph, that’s not begging. That’s just using your manners.”

The FMC, Soph, is strong and crass and sassy but she still has plenty of moments where she ignores common sense and "goes with her gut." She's 25 so a little older than some other romantasy books, which is a plus for me.

The world-building feels natural and not overwhelming.

The MMC, Eli, is a bit contradictory which is my main complaint. He's a "possesive" type of vampire and though there are some instances of this

"I don’t want you wearing other men’s shirts anymore. Though the shirt looked crisp and new, when she held it to her face, it smelled like him. Eli. He’d worn it first, embedding his earthy, sweet and spice scent into the fabric."

He also stays away from the FMC for MONTHS after an intense period together. The motivation for this was never explained and it didn't seem like the typical "staying away for your own good" reasoning.

I was also expecting more from the billionaire trope as this seemed to be one of his major characteristics. There were several occasions where this could've been worked in. For example, Soph invites Eli for a drink after he saves her from a truck, Eli leaves without even offering to pay for their drinks. I understand this could be to emphasize Soph's independence but it seems bizzare that a billionaire wouldn't even offer.

The pacing was great, we didn't have to wait too long until the MCs meet (in a bit of a Twilight homage).

"One moment she was on the road, the grill of the truck so close she could see the dead bugs stuck to it. The next moment, she hit the pavement."
...
"Someone supernatural had saved her. And that someone was likely a vampire."

Though the ending felt just a tad rushed.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and will be patiently waiting for the next one. (This book ends on a cliffhanger.)

Thank you to the author for providing me an ARC of this book.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my opinion.
I really enjoyed this book! I was hooked from the start. The characters had amazing chemistry and the book had just the right amount of spice without detracting from the plot. I was intrigued by the world the author created and I think she expounded upon it nicely.
There were only a couple spots where I think the flow was a little awkward but for the most part the book was paced well.

“ Make it messy. Make me regret you…”

• The Soph and Eli story was meant to be told! It keeps you on your toes throughout it, with so many twists and turns. You certainly do NOT get bored. From the struggles, spice, love, fights… it’s all a perfect combination.

• I don’t want to give away too much about the characters, but they’re beyond wonderful. You’ll have to just find out for yourself! 🫶🏻

• You get close to the end and you are internally screaming, this can’t be it. And in fact it is not! There will be more… 🖤

I've come across Carved From Obsidian many years ago when it was still being published at a reading app, although it was still in early stages. So, of course, I couldn't miss the opportunity to receive an ARC from Addie and find out how this story progressed!

For me, particularly, the universe was a bit confusing. It wasn't clear to me if society was only witches and vampires, if there were humans and if they were aware of each other. This was mostly cleared towards 40% of the book, but I think some things about the Vampire King and Fae Courts and Princes were put out there but not really explained, although that seems like it will be explained in the sequel. I'm an anxious person so needless to say I'll be restless until I get my answers haha

The book was fastpaced and at 80% I was Locked IN and not ready to finish this read at all. I loved, loveeed Eli and Soph's relationship. I've read other genres by the writer before and I was always curious how the spicy scenes would play out when the time came and let me say I was NOT dissapointed. They were spetacular.

Overall it was such a fun fantasy read! It got me hooked. Sometimes you just gotta read a sexy witch-vampire romance and that was exactly what I got (plus a lot of family drama).

Excited for what is to come! Give it a try and you won't regret it :)

Ummm excuse me!!

Holy cliffhanger 😱 and now I have to wait for a second one. The main characters are finally happy and then bam 💥 I love Eli and Soph. I also lowkey love her mom.

Eli + Soph dynamic is adorable and we’ve barely scratched the surface of it and what lengths I think they will go to protect each other. This book also left so many unanswered questions. The author built this backstory and the characters are clearly missing so key information that I hope comes to light in the next book. Had me on the edge of my seat.

My god am I obsessed with this incredible book instantaneously!!

It is so rare (and therefore so fun) to find a book that hits big on captivating character development and growth arcs, unique and fascinating world building and lore, spice that spices but also doesn't detract from the plot, and a sick mystery filled with tension and intrigue! I could not put this down and seriously sacrificed some sleep to finish this!!

Soph is young marketing professional (and witch) who trips in the road on her way home from work one evening, only to be rescued ~twilight style~ by billionaire vampire Eli. He's gone in a blink of an eye, but she was able to see who he was- and seeks him out to thank him for helping her. A week or so later, he's in trouble and the only safe place he can find is safely within her apartment's wards. Thus begins, the journey these two tough cookies go on throughout the story, often bobbing just out of reach of the other, but a foundation has been built on implicit, total trust in each other.

This is a dark story, with some absolutely hard to read and devastating moments, but it's also filled with characters full of emotional depth that you can see building strong connections with each other. From Soph's familial relationships with her grandma, cousin, and mother- to her romantic relationships with the safe Marco and the heartstopping Eli- to her budding friendships with some Dark Witches, vampire/celeb Chase, and mysterious companion Cole- we are able to really understand how Soph ticks and showcase how important she is in this world. The relationship with Eli, though, WHEW oh boy did this hit!!!!!

Obviously the magic of the world is also so cool, with 3 types of vampires, 3 types of witches, and their Founders controlling their fates and otherwise doing ~things not to be spoiled~ in the world. The cliffhanger we left off on was SHOCKING and I cannot WAIT to see how it's resolved!

Thank you so much to Addie Grey for an ARC of this book- you have created a new lifelong fan!! Carved from Obsidian comes out May 1, 2024 and is available for preorder now!

Carved From Obsidian is a cool story that mixes magic and human feels. It’s about Soph, a witch who gets a new lease on life thanks to Eli, a vamp who can walk in the daylight. Their lives cross paths and Soph gets caught up in a world where witches and vamps live together with secrets and power.

The characters really make this story pop. Soph goes from clueless witch to mixed up in all things supernatural in a way that’ll keep you hooked. Eli adds a mysterious edge to Soph’s character, making the plot more interesting. Their relationship gets tangled in family drama and supernatural shenanigans, making for a riveting and believable read.

Addie Grey writes with a smooth and captivating style that really brings the spooky world alive. She’s all about painting vivid pictures with her words, creating a steamy vibe that adds to the story rather than stealing the show. Her writing is like a seductive dance that draws you in deep.

The book looks at stuff like forbidden love, trying to figure out who you are, and the struggle between fate and what you really want. Grey uses cool tricks like hinting at what’s coming and comparing things to make the story more interesting. Looking at things from two different points of view makes the story even more deep and meaningful.

The book moves quickly and keeps you interested with a great structure. It’s easy to read and full of detail. The ending will leave you wanting more, showing how great Grey is at telling stories.

Carved From Obsidian is a pretty cool book for fans of paranormal romance. It’s got a mix of passion and mystery that’ll keep you interested. Some might find it a bit intense, but it gives a real look at a world where love and darkness mix. I’d suggest it to adults who like steamy, supernatural stories with interesting characters and a fast-paced plot.

So yeah, ‘Carved From Obsidian’ by Addie Grey is a super interesting book that’ll totally keep you hooked with its dark vibe and gripping storyline. Definitely worth checking out!

What to expect:
🖤Dark paranormal romance
🖤Forbidden romance
🖤Hidden powers
🖤Billionaire vampire
🖤Vampire x witch

Review:
This book took me completely by surprise!! It had such a refreshing and unique take on power and magic systems for vampires and witches. I was hooked and invested in Eli and Soph’s story.

Soph doesn’t feel like she belongs and lets the weight of her family’s thoughts and opinions hold her back from making decisions for her own happiness. Her Nona held so much power over her, she was willing to let Eli slip away while she settled for someone who wasn’t for her.

Eli felt elusive and I wanted to figure him and his feelings for Soph out. He’d spend time with her and care for her, but then he’d disappear for weeks or months. But their chemistry when they were together was explosive 😮‍💨. And I loved that he called her Witchling. I felt Eli’s heartbreak when Soph didn’t choose him, and then was so excited when she realized her mistake because Eli and her went so well together. The way he dropped everything several times to take care of her when she was hurt 🫠.

So much happened and there is so much I am curious to learn more about the world and of course its characters. This is the first book in the series so there was a huge cliffhanger. I am excited to see where Soph’s story goes and will hopefully see more of some of the characters I fell in love with. Thank you Addie for giving me the chance to read an ARC for my honest review!

Memorable quotes:
“Tell me, Witchling, what do you like? What do you want from me?”

“If you think this man is the one, you’ll regret not chasing him into eternity.”

“You’ve turned me into a jealous man and I don’t want others touching what belongs to me. From now on, there can be no one else. Not for you, not for me. Understand?”

This was my first billionaire romance, and making this world paranormal I knew I had to read this book!

Soph is an assertive and independent witch. Given the pressures of living up to the expectations of her family and certain events that occur in her upbringing, she finds herself not being able to commit to a coven which only makes her naive to the supernatural world around here. But when she’s saved by a tall, sexy and mysterious vampire, she begins to develop a deep curiosity about both her billionaire CEO vampire savior and the world she’s allowed herself to grow detached from.

I really enjoyed this book from beginning to end. I was just as intrigued by this supernatural world as Soph was and loved being taken on her journey to self discovery. The events that occur after she finds out more about this world somewhat represents real life issues (addiction and putting your family’s high expectations before your own needs). How Soph copes with these aspects makes her character incredibly relatable. The way Eli gives off “she’s mine” and “touch her and die” vibes with also being more of a cinnamon roll only makes you love him more! The romance and spice between these two is scorching!

Soph and Eli are much more than just your average witch and vampire which added more complexity to this story. I ate up the second half of the book! The plot twists and the sweet and spicy moments between the MCs only get better. At that point, I really couldn’t put this book down. With that cliffhanger at the end, I’m highly anticipating the next book!

Add this book to your TBR especially if you enjoy these tropes:
✨Dark paranormal romance
✨Billionaire romance
✨Vampire & witch coupling
✨Hidden magic
✨Forbidden romance
✨Extra spicy
✨Modern setting

Title: Carved from Obsidian
Author: Addie Grey
Series: A Nevermore Novel
Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆
Spice: ☆☆☆☆

Carved from Obsidian is definitely one of my new favorite paranormal dark romances of 2024. I couldn't get enough of the hot vampire or the quirky, fun witch. The spice in this book is a 10 out 10.

I loved the two main characters, Soph and Eli, a Witch and billionaire vampire who ended up meeting by chance only to find out that their lives are entwined irrevocably. But other forces are at play, and that could cause some bigger problems for the couple in the near future. Plus, Soph doesn't even know that there are secrets and information that she doesn't know about the witches' history, her grandmother, and Eli. Sophs world is about to turn upside down, will she be prepared for it? Soph soon realizes that she's been lied to, manipulated, and betrayed by the one person she could always depend on.

I loved this fast-paced, action-packed paranormal romance novel. There's lots of vampires, witches, and magic. There's revenge, betrayal, love, and loss. Addie Grey didn't disappoint with this little gem, and I love that Grey was able to make her story enthralling, thrilling, and different from other vampire and witch stories.

Addie Grey is a talented writer, and I'm excited to see where this series goes. I highly recommend Carved from Obsidian and Addie Grey.

Well I got this as an ARC in return for a review… and I honestly don’t know what to say other than… when’s the next one coming?!

My heart is broken!!!! Tears, laughter, lust, this book has everything!!! The story is fast paced and enjoyable the whole way through. If I had of had a physical copy of this book I would have 100% read it in one sitting. (Reading off my phone wasn’t so good but no fault of the author)

The relationships in this book are wonderful, hot, real and relatable. I messaged the author at one point letting her know how connected I felt in regard to Soph and Eli and how their hot, wild and animalistic passion was so reminiscence of someone. Their relationship is HOT!!!!

Following the modern life of Soph as both a working woman, a modern witch, who struggling with balance and finding the one who’s acceptable by her Nona’s standards is pressure she didn’t want or need and when we finally see her find a raw passion with Eli that she needed I can’t help but be excited for her. The billionaire who wants the typical normal girl. The ravishing beast who brings out her wild and sexy side and gives her pleasure she’s been begging for, for longer than she even realised.

When Soph finds out about her powers and what is happening to her, and why it’s happening it’s hard not to feel the emotions with her. The anger at her Nona, the frustration at the fact that she’s been lied to for her entire life. The heartbreaking realisation that the only people she can rely on are the wayward mum who’s in and out of her life all the time and the billionaire vampire who she’s not at all supposed to be falling in love with.

I highly recommend this book, and I will be purchasing my copy when it is released on 1st May!

Well done Addie Grey! You have created a moorish, sexy, delicious world that I cannot wait to get back to!!

I was lucky to get an ARC copy from this book. BUT now I'm really sad. Why? Because the story end with a major cliffhanger and I have no idea when we will get the chance the read the second book!

Plot- 5/5✨
Cliffhanger - 10/5

✔️ age gap
✔️ paranormal romance
✔️ steamy
✔️ witch x vampires
✔️"you are mine"

Tbh, it's really hard to write a good review from this book without spoilers. I will try though.

Sophie’s POV is actually not even her, is a third person singular view. There were a few times, when I got confused who's view we are seen. Otherwise I'm not complaining.
There are a few action in this story, it put me on the edge, I was so focusing on the story, just wanted to know what will happen next.
So yes, the tension is Sophie and Eli are a really likeable character. The steam between them were written really good.
There were a few occasion when I just wanted to shake Sophie up, step in the book and make a BETTER decision than her and than force her to my way..

Eli is mysterious hot man..and also a vampire, the posessive one. Do I have to say more? Just one more thing:
And only when I've sufficiently ruined you to the point that you're begging for mercy will I let you c*me.

I won't lie, I mentioned two times already, but the end of their story (this book, we will get more) it's....broke my heart. I was sobbing and wanted to look the last paged through myíbe we can have a little gimpse...but no. I don't know what will happen after the last ominous scene...BUT what I know is...I want the second book! As soon as possible!

I don’t read a lot of Urban fantasy but Addie Grey is making me think twice on that decision. You have the hustle and bustle of a big city and the notion of what goes bump in the night is very real. Soph our leading lady is every girl who just wants to find her place in the world. Coming from a prestigous light witch family she feels a little lost in her grandma’s shadow as well as the need to make her grandma proud. ALSO, Soph is a badass Italian woman. I love what this background adds to the family drama as well as Soph’s character building throughout the story.

When Soph meets her vampire I literally had flashbacks to twilight, though wayyyyy less cringey. Eli and Soph’s dynamic is hot and cold, and constantly leaves you wanting more. There’s so much I want to say on this duo but I don’t want to give to much away. So here’s one of my favorite quotes instead.

“This kiss wasn’t lust-driven, rather it was carved from the stones of eternity.”

Addie Grey brings some very serious real world problems into her writing. There is depiction of addiction and man, the journey of struggling with addiction, withdrawal and what that does to a person is masterfully written. It’s very much a battle with yourself and Addie Grey highlights that perfectly.

I’m definitely going to stick around because this story does continue and with the hints dropped throughout the book I can see a lot more magic and possibly some court intrigue being introduced in the next book.

Soph was living an ordinary life, except for the fact that she was a witch, until she was saved from imminent death by a vampire. When she starts looking for him, she’s pulled into the paranormal world with dark secrets and powerful people as enemies.

The plot was interesting but felt disjointed a lot of times. So many unanswered questions arise as the story progresses. From the beginning, the choices made and the events that followed didn’t make much sense. Since the book is solely from Sol’s POV, and she is someone who doesn’t communicate, we never get to see the full picture somehow.

The concept of witches and how they gain abilities by drinking vampire blood was very vague. I still don’t understand that plot point much. The main plot was also not thoroughly explained since Soph doesn’t care about such things. So many of the problems could have been avoided if only she talked.

The matriarch of their family ended up being a vindictive old lady with too much power but somehow that was brushed aside. I ended up very confused about the different types of witches and vampires.

Eli was an interesting character and he added a lot of fun banter and excitement to the plot. The pace set was comfortable to finish the book in a go. I couldn’t stop once I started it!

Tropes to love:
🏷️Witches, vampires
🏷️Forbidden romance
🏷️Billionaires and celebrities
🏷️Touch her and ☠️
🏷️Age Gap
🏷️Steamy
🏷️You are Mine
🏷️Powerful Matriarch Family

This book has a lot of potential. With a twist like that at the end, I need to know what happens next cuz I do not accept that ending!!!!

Thank you so much to the author and RR Book Tours for sending me a copy to review.

Carved From Obisdian, WOW, this book left me feeling numb in a good way. I will happily admit I didn’t read another book for 8 days straight after finishing it. Addie Grey is a fantastic author, her writing is beautiful, stunning even, she has the perfect amount of spice while keeping to the story line. The twist and turns that this book takes left me speechless, I went from hating Eli to then loving him by the end of the book and wanting Soph and Eli to be together. I feel like I have found my favourite all time author.

The characters Addie has created all fit into the story perfectly, every character has an important role to play in the story no matter how small they are in the story line. I believe we may learn more about each character the more books Addie writes ( I so hope she writes more books to the story because I have soo many unanswered questions)

The knowledge Addie has put into this book is commendable, shes talk about light witches, black witches, covens and more but with so much truth to them, she certainly has done her research. As a fellow witch who is into crystals, tarot readings and more I feel like Addie has done us justice.

Overall, this book is a beautiful, dark fantasy romance story, which keeps you wanting to read more and more after each page. Addie creates this fantasy world that seems so parallel with our own that it could be quite easily mistaken to be real but also adds enough fantasy to feel like you're in a dark alternative world.

I received a copy of this book as an ARC in exchange for my review.

This book was very good. My rating is 3.8 stars. In my opinion, the story was good, but it definitely had some moments of confusion where I had to go back a few paragraphs and reread it to understand the line of story the author was trying to follow. When the story was focused on Soph and Eli, it flowed amazingly. But when new characters were introduced and when some things were taking place, it kind of went all over the place, which is why I had to reread it. Now I understand having a backstory is good for a character, but at some of the backstory for Soph seemed unnecessary imo, i.e., getting the details for meetings, her attacking a coworker(which partly makes sense due to the vampire blood addiction), but I dont really feel like it was nessassary to really be meantioned.

I also got my first "ick" from a book, and it was because of the Marco character. I understand why it was written that way as well.

Chapter 32 felt slightly rushed as it was an important action sequence nessassary for the story, but I felt as though the author wanted to get through it. Also, a note of Soph coming in angry at Chase, and what seems within 5 minutes she was laughing and joking with him, and my reaction was "wait, weren't you just mad at him?"

Either way, I did enjoy this book, and with the cliffhanger ending, it did leave me wanting more, especially with the shock factor of the last 3 chapters, including the epilogue. I am excited to know what happens in book two of the Nevermore novels.

I received an ARC version of Carved from Obsidian and am providing an honest review of my thoughts on the book.

Witches? Check.
Vampires? Check.
Steamy scenes? Double check.
Let's do this.

I enjoyed that I had never before encountered the magical setup specific to this book. That's really refreshing! Spoiler:

I did not enjoy how greatly the book introduced plot changes instead of persistently building between them. Soph is rapidly pinballed between plot points, and as the reader, this wore me out to go from: Spoiler:

The book ends on a cliffhanger. Some authors intentionally prefer to do this, but I find a book with no closure at the end, instead of say a milestone ending while looking forward to the next major hurdle, leaves me unfulfilled.

Ill start off saying this book was a rollercoaster, Which ended with me messaging the author if she could tell me anything at all about the next book because I was gonna lose my mind without knowing what happens next (don't worry she didn't tell me anything). This book starts off with Soph meeting Eli at a club, There's instant attraction, but he's not what he seems at first glance, but neither is soph.
There was a new surprise at every turn in this book I can honestly say I was never bored. There is a certain situation in the book that I was so frustrated and angry about (due to miscommunication) that i would have to put my book down, only to immediately pick it back up. The chemistry between Eli and Soph were off the charts. I wasn't sure about Eli at some points but he won my heart once everything was explained. There is so much tension and heat and spice and a certain scene with a little glass mushroom that had me screaming. There is a love triangle, which I don't typically care for but I didn't mind to much in this book. Once everything settles down you think soph is in the clear BAM plot twist ANDDD a HUGE cliffhanger, that will leave you gasping and asking yourself why? thats not possible right? I dont want to spoil anything major so i'll leave it at this. This books was a 5/5 starts I loved every emotion I felt while reading this and im desperately awaiting the second book.

⭐⭐⭐⭐, 🌶🌶.5

Eli is mysterious and alluring, the more we find out about him, the more interesting he becomes! Sophie is so relatable, feeling lost and confused within her own family and her own power. The tension and connection they have allows the book to ebb and flow in such an interesting way!

The book ends on a good cliffhanger that makes me excited for book 2!

Summary:

Soph is just going through the motions of life. She's a witch, but doesn't practice magic often, she isn't even part of a coven, she also doesn't have a husband, which she keeps being reminded of. One day she almost gets hit by a car, but is saved by a dark and mysterious man, Eli. She can't shake the want to meet him, thank him, but also understand why he would save her, a complete stranger, and a witch. Very quickly she enters Eli's world, and it is a complicated one. While she finds happiness and intrigue, she is not prepared for what she learns about her own world and the serious consequences that it results in.

Eli has lived a long life alone, and he was not expecting for Soph to turn everything upside down, for him to start caring about her wellbeing. How do you welcome someone to the dark side who doesn't even know the dark side exists.

I was lucky enough to get access to this book via an ARC!

“Hello witchling!”

I was impressed with this debut novel from Addie Grey.

It’s a steamy urban modern day tale, full of witches, vampires, magic and spice! If you imagine an older modern day twilight with plenty of 🌶️🌶️🌶️ you’d be right on track.

We meet Soph, a 25 year old covenless witch, she’s feisty, independent but sometimes rash and reckless. Torn between what her family and matriarch Nona want, she’s drawn to Eli- the sexy mysterious billionaire, who she can’t help but want despite all the warning signs.

I enjoyed the magic system, the pull between Eli and Soph worked well and the spice was just the right amount. A book with an interesting plot, plenty of twists and turns and what a cliff hanger!

I felt that we could have done with a bit more back story about the magics and origins as that got a little confusing at times - but didn’t detract from the enjoyment. I sense that with book 2 we’ll discover a lot more and I can’t wait to find out!

The book features addiction, so check the triggers, but I thought the author dealt really well with highlighting the highs and lows and emotional battle of addiction and withdrawal.

It’s fast paced and I raced through it in 2 days and can’t wait for book 2. If you like paranormal romance, witches and vampires then this is a book for you!

Thank you Addie Grey for the ARC for my honest review

What a fun read!! I'll be completely honest, the dedication had me in from the get go (I'm not going to spoil it for you, you'll have to take a look for yourself!).

Carved from Obsidian starts off as a seemingly lighthearted book about a woman who kind of, mostly has her act together, and then she gets saved by a vampire. Her life takes all sorts of twists and turns from here after their chance encounter. And they are all for the worse. I'm not sure I've read many books where an FMC spirals as spectacularly as Soph did, yet you're still rooting for her.

I'll be blunt, there is a chunk of the book in the first half that gets really dark. Like, check yourself on those trigger warnings dark. But as hard to read as it was, it was really gritty, well-written, and heart-wrenching.

Fear not, our MMC comes into play and the story goes from black to grey from there. We shift more into the magic system that becomes more complex as the story unfolds (setting it up beautifully for Book 2, by the way). This is still by no means a happy book, but the reader is able to find pieces of happiness in the love story.

This book has all of the spice, is heavy on the betrayal, and has you wanting more and more as the story continues. Just as you think you know where the story is going, you're proven wrong.

Overall: definitely recommend!

Dark paranormal romance is definitely one of my favorites; throw in some spice and wow did I end my month with a fantastic one!

When Soph is rescued from death by a mysterious billionaire CEO, she becomes obsessed with finding out everything she can about him, especially why he saved her in the first place. The fact that he’s a vampire is just the beginning. She finds herself completely immersed in this magical world around her.

She is an independent witchy FMC who starts her journey not truly knowing what she wants or how to get it. Commitment has never been her strength. But as passion ignites between them she discovers so much more about herself. Morally gray shadow daddy Eli has an unexpected sprinkle of cinnamon roll, which surprised and delighted me. Their dynamic is a tasty mix of spicy and sweet.

Grey’s attention to detail creates a fast paced story that immerses you completely in their world. There is plenty of suspense throughout, keeping this reader hooked from start to finish. I seem to be in my cliffhanger era and this ending certainly has me holding my breath for the next book.

Thank you Addie Grey and RR Book Tours for the ARC and the opportunity to be on this tour.
