TW: attempted suicide, domestic violence.
The dialogue in this book was very formal, even between Sophia and her younger self. It made it hard for me to pinpoint whether this book was set in the past or not because it seemed odd when paired with the A&E trip, the shotgun Todd had and the other details throughout the book.
I didn't really understand the plot. It seemed like Sophia had met the old witch before but there were no explanations.
The world building was limited and so were the characters.
The ending was odd and it didn't tie up any loose ends. I don't think I'd read any other books by this author
If you could travel back in time and co-exist within the body of your younger self, what would you tell them? What knowledge would you impart concerning the decisions you've made that would change the trajectory of your future life for the better? Or better yet, what if you were given a chance to highjack your younger self, with your future memory intact, and navigate these crossroads again yourself? This is the deep metaphysical query the author poses in this otherwise short tale concerning the eternal question we've all asked ourselves, "what if?"
This story is intriguing and filled with amazing imagery. The main character needs to find the strength to change her circumstances by using powers she didn’t realize she had. But that requires going somewhere she could not have imagined. The result is a great twist and a satisfying conclusion. Well worth your time to read this one. Thomas Michael’s cover promises and the story delivers!
