When a bunch of mean and rotten pirates raid an abandoned ship they discover far more than they bargained for. On board is a baby girl who they happily adopt and call Violet--Vile for short. Soon the pirates are busy caring for the little girl and teaching her piratical ways. Great times are had as the pirates and violet happily sail the seven seas in their trusty ship, the Sleek sally, and the wonderful adventures that they share make for hilarious listening.
Another children's book I would never have heard of or bought if I hadn't found it in the free tub at the library this week. How can one resist such a title? The Mean and Rotten Pirates (the captain of whom cannot stand, and avoids at all cost, the sight or thought of "something that starts with 'b' and ends with 'd'" and, I might add, rhymes with "mud," that's how Mean and Rotten they are) stumble onto a previously pirated ship and find...a baby. Of course they think it's a boy, so they are in for a surprise.
They give her a name with a very fitting nickname...Vile. And they all live happily (for the most part) and hilariously, of course, ever after.
These days, ex-library books are helping to get the housework done; I put fees on them. After hanging a load of towels on the line this morning, my ten-year-old is now aboard a vicious pirate ship in the corner of my front room.
