She has the power to change the world; he was born to destroy it.
Drug-addicted Theda has a unique gift that might have been useful in a world that believed in something. Not in New Earth. Using her gift now that the god has come and gone is the one thing punishable by death, and Theda isn't the kind of girl to take too many chances. There are just two things that matter to her: tricking out her gift so she can eat, and blissing out on her drug of choice so she can forget the past--not exactly in that order.
It's the craving for a fix that gets her into the worst trouble when a rugged bounty hunter as damaged as she is discovers her secret. Now she is on a new quest for survival -- one where the very handsome and enigmatic man who hunts her down becomes the person she must trust.
In a gritty, post-apocalyptic world, where any notion of god has been abandoned, humankind must look within for redemption .
A dark and gritty post apocalyptic world with some time travel, paranormal notions, and reincarnation concepts thrown in. Because of mature language and sexually explicit situations, Phoenix is not recommended for readers under 18.

I just finished reading the theta waves series and OMG. Blew my mind. I wasn't really sure what to expect and well it was definitely not what I thought. Went a lot darker and more explicit than what I'm usually comfortable with. But I loved the rawness of thea' s writing. It took you to a place that could one day be just like that. Theta, Ezekiel and Cain were well written and I really wasn't ready to say goodbye to the story. Well done to the author for transporting me into thetas world
What a horrible existence. I can’t imagine what could possibly happen to save Theda or Ezekiel. I also wonder why she has the talent that she has. I enjoyed this book. Thea Atkinson has a way of writing that sucks you in and flows so easily that you can’t help but become part of the story.
It took me a while to get into this book with the introduction being a bit confusing however once I got past the initial confusion it was a fast paced thrill ride.
The main characters Theda and Ezekiel are bound together through her power to see visions of others when she is high. As weird as that sounds it actually won't that weird in the book. It may be what causes most of the confusion in the first few chapters it soon becomes interesting as it reveals something new about each character. Ezekiel is a bounty hunter who has been paid to bring these to his master however once he learns about Theda’s power is he'll bent on protecting her from others who may cause her harm. The progression of the relationship between the two main characters is interesting and works very well alongside the individual characters development.
It gets quite confusing towards the end with secondary characters and Ezekiel as I was not sure who was working with "the beast" all along or who joined involuntarily but I suspect that will be explained more in the next episode. To be honest I didn't find any of the other characters other than Theda or Ezekiel likeable probably because they weren't there for very long or threatened Theda.
The book was well paced introducing a new problem and solution in each episode and still ending with a cliff-hanger leaving me the reader wanting more. The pacing of the relationship between Theda and Ezekiel is brilliant as it ties in nicely with everything else that is happening around them and at the end of episode 3 it leaves you genuinely what will happen next.
The storyline was intriguing and continually added new aspects that transformed the characters as each situation developed and new characters were introduced. However it could be confusing at times with situations not being described fully.
Overall I did enjoy the book and the main aspects of the storyline between Theda and Ezekiel however I did not feel secondary characters were introduced as well/ weren’t present long enough for them to make any major impact onto the story other than to pose a threat to Theda which Ezekiel dealt with.
In an old/new series, the Rapture has taken place leaving behind those not chosen in the New World. Religion is banned or anything to do with it. The Beast is in charge. The Horsemen are on the prowl for more people to destroy. When the Apocalypse occurred, Theda was waiting like so many others to be taken; it did not happen for her. The only way to deal with the New World for many is a drug nicknamed Godspit. While others who take it are elevated to ecstasy beyond their imagination, Theda uses it as a bargaining tool to help make money, as well as using it for a high. She is an addict because of this drug. Her latest john gets the ride promised, but he is very unhappy. No one truly knows what they are in for after her promised ride. It has a way of changing some. She and the others believe there is no hope to be taken. They believe God has left them there to suffer for the rest of their lives. When Ezekiel arrests her for religion purposes due to her rides, nothing will be the same. He wants her for himself but also turns her over to be punished. It is driving her crazy. Everywhere he thinks she is safe turns out to be wrong. When they face the Horsemen, a huge secret comes out and betrayal on many levels will occur. She has done the unthinkable! She will have to answer to the Beast. In the scope of things, part of her knows what she is doing…another does not. All she knows is she has to save the one man who means everything to her. Even if it means giving her own life. This book contains many dark scenes and triggers for some. It is a well written thought-out story line. The reader cannot help but get caught up in the story and characters. You will want to rave about Theda and hope things can turn around for her. Deep down, she has not given up all hope of being worthy of love and to be chosen. Find out the first part of her journey in book one that ends on a cliffhanger.
The Apocalypse happened. God left Earth alone. And the worst of humanity surfaced as the Beast took over God's place. Any word used that is connected to former religion is the worst crime, punishable by death. Crime, drugs, and violence are the new normal. The Horsemen of the apocalypse are at the Beast's beck and call. And in the midst of this desolation lives Theda, survivor of the worst a woman can go through, selling visions of past lives to clients to survive until next day, and taking Godspit to blissfully unaware survive each night. Until the moment Ezekiel steps into her life, and the true path to darkness begins. This story is like an exploration of human depravity, evil, and all the atrocities one can do to another for profit, wicked pleasure, or to save their own necks. List of trigger warnings for this book would be endless. Nothing is sacred, nothing is off limits. Yet the story feels painfully realistic, even cautionary. The blooming romance is raw, twisted, full of pain and hurt. Theda seems so weak and naive, always tossed from one trouble and mortal danger into another, also by her own fault.. yet fighting to live another day in such bleak world is a strength of its own. Ezekiel is a fascinating character, and so are some of the side characters. I definitely want to see more of where this story can go.
This is a review for Psychic Secrets, the updated version of this book, but not yet on Goodreads.
Set in a dystopian world where religion is banned, Theda has an unusual gift of bringing on visions of people's past lives. Being homeless and a drug addict, she uses this gift, to earn enough money for her next fix. But as anything slightly religious is illegal, she has to be careful and not get caught, until that dreaded day when she does. But the hunter who arrests her has an agenda of his own!
This was a very dark, gritty book where drug use, violence, murder, rape and abuse of women is prevalent. Theda is a survivor, but more so an addict. Although she is badly abused, she deals with it the only way she knows how - get her next fix.
It was very well written, full of emotion and was nerve wracking at times as well and the cliffhanger ends left me wanting more!
I received a copy of this book from the author but this review is all my own.
I usually enjoy Thea's books, but I must say that was not the case for this one. The world-building was good. A post-rapture world where all the righteous have ascended and only the bad remain. Theda has a special gift that allows her to show someone a past life. Her talent must be kept secret since any sniff of religion or reference to God is cause for a very public death. The money her 'john's' give her for their 'ride' is used to buy the drug that keeps her blissed out for the night, allowing her to get up the next day and do it all again. In other words, like all addicts she lives for her next high.
I won't go into what happens in the book. If you like very dark stories you will probably like it. It was more than I want in my dark tales and I will pass on reading any more in the series.

This was my first book by Thea Atkinson and the story was extremely good. I was confused about the story at first due a lot of things are not explained very well in the beginning, however, as the story continues it becomes clearer. The storyline itself was intriguing and is very fast paced. It is a very down and gritty story that really does draw you in. Theta and Ezekiel have this hate/love relationship that when there is anger it is full blown anger. When the softer sides of them come out you can feel the “love”. The end of the story ends in a cliffhanger and it makes you want and can’t wait to read the second one. It is most certainly worth reading. I voluntarily review an advanced reader copy of this book.
I was only expecting a story about a psychic revealing secrets or some such, but was totally surprised at what I read, once I started. The author completely emersed the reader into a post apocalyptic world where the devil was real, religion outlawed and any hint of soul was reason for death. To say that I was floored by the storyline and how it was resolved, is an understatement. The fact that it was a cliffhanger? Just makes me want it even more. Excellent writing and plotting, with characters believable, I couldn't help but give it 5 stars. Thank you, Authoress, just for the wow factor alone!

If you couldn’t tell by the blurb this has some pretty dark moments. Theda is a homeless addict that was left behind after the rapture. She has a strange magic that allows her to see people’s past lives while in guessing their blood and this is her way of paying for Godspit, her drug of choice. She is forced to run after being exposed, any kind of religion has been outlawed and grounds for execution. This is interesting and dark and the ending leaves you with a lot of questions.

This is not your usual same arc, same Byline, or similar heroines & heroes. Not a mom & pop story either. These heroes are definitely not your usual. Nooo nooo this is a dark Post-apocalypse tale. One of what this author believes is our heroines version of our world possibly leagues from now. The what could be generations later, per say. You’re not sure what’s gonna quite happen from one page to the next. Recommended! HAPPY READING!!

This book had me from the first page to the last. I had looked at this series earlier but didn't think I would like it. I'm glad I decided to go for it! Thea Atkinson has a real talent for post apocalyptic/dystopian books. Once again, in this book she has achieved the right balance. Great world building, great characters, great plot and twists! I love that both Theda and Ezekiel are imperfect. I even found myself quoting Theda this afternoon. I'm looking forward to reading more of this duo and world.

I enjoy reading dystopian books and I have read a lot of Thea Atkinson's books, so I jumped at the chance to read this one. Theda is a drug addict who becomes involved with a bounty hunter. Soon, her secret gift (which is punishable by death in this new world) becomes the one thing that she might be able to use to survive.
This is a short read which starts a series that seems to be full of potential. Just a warning: There are several steamy scenes and mention of rape.

This wasn't terrible, just not for me. A post apocalyptic world where anything religious is snuffed out immediately. A girl who can see someone's past lives by tasting their blood and she's also a drug addict. And then she gets grabbed by a bounty hunter and goes on the run.
This was weird, and once they started to get too into the past lives thing, I gave up...I'm really just not into stuff like that.
The storyline was well detailed and full of emotions. The characters were all over the place, most nightmarish. The period was post-apocalypse and very, very dark and deadly. The only way out of the horror was a drug called Godspit. Going back into previous lives was just troublesome. This book will give me nightmares for a week.

She offers you a wild ride by a drop of your blood. She gave a young man a vision of who he was. Causing the young man to rebel against his family. Unknowingly she is wanted by the Beast for her actions. Instead of being a spitter and a religious zealot. She is being seen as a savior. So much going on and the twist and turns keep your head spinning.

It did take me a while to become invested in the characters and the plot of this book because it is not my usual genre. At times It was a little hard to follow. Intriguingly, the storyline evolved and changed the characters as it progressed, and new players were introduced. When this book ended with a cliffhanger, I was left with a genuine desire for more. This was a strong start to the Theta Waves series, it had that element that I wanted and thought was a strong opening chapter to this world. Thea Atkinson has a strong style for the genre and was glad it was so well written. I was invested in the characters and thought worked well in the world, I’m excited to read more in this world.

Theda is homeless, making enough money for food by letting her "johns" see into their past lives. When The Beast's son Hendrick sees his past lives, it changes him and Theda becomes wanted for religion-mongering. Bounty hunter Ezekiel arrests Theda and everything changes. This book is full of action. ending with a cliffhanger darn it! Very highly recommended.

This book has a twist that you are not expecting. And an age old story of heartache and betrayal and ultimate love. It's definitely a favorite read of mine and if you haven't read it yet I suggest you do. It's definitely something that will have you on a rollercoaster of emotions ride you won't forget.
I can't wait to see what happens next for Theda and Ezekiel.
3.5 stars This takes place in a post apocalyptic earth where everyone is scared about anything from the “old world”. It’s dark, and I may not have been in the right head space for this book at this point. I did enjoy the writing.

I can see the world turning to crap after the end comes. With remaining people left turn to ruin. Is there hope for Theda? Can she get herself right and cleaned up before it's to late? She feels like the weight of the world is in her shoulders.
I love the way this author just pulls you in right from the beginning until you turn the last page. So many twists and turns to keep you wanting more. Read one of her books, become addicted.
Wow, this was a great surprise read. I enjoyed the story which has you page turning until you can't see straight. The character building was spot on and can't wait for the next in series Highly recommended
