A princess on the verge of a calamitous marriage. A government alliance on the brink of collapse. Can Kitty Worthington put a stop to the nuptials before disaster ensues?London 1924. When the royal princess of Zenovia falls madly in love with a rake during London's social season, the British government appeals to Kitty Worthington for help in exposing the despicable dastard. Her first inclination is to deny the request. As busy as her detective agency is, it would be madness to take on such a task.
But when her fiancé, Chief Detective Inspector Robert Crawford Sinclair, is assigned to an undercover investigation to investigate the unsuitable suitor, Kitty accepts the government's mandate. After all, she doesn't wish to go weeks without seeing him. The enquiry will demand she alter her looks, move to a new residence, and act in ways she's never acted before. Can she do the impossible without losing everything she holds dear, including herself?
The Case of the Unsuitable Suitor, Book 3 in the Kitty Worthington Cozy Capers, is another delightful historical cozy frolic from the pen of USA TodayBestselling author Magda Alexander. This captivating tale is replete with intrigue, humor, and a dash of romance. Set in the glamorous world of 1920s London, it’s sure to delight readers of Agatha Christie and Downton Abbey alike.
This wasn't too bad. There's a bit of intrigue along with some very speedy sleuthing and then hey presto the case is solved! Though like other English readers before me, I too find the Americanisms rather annoying. Please, please, please American authors, if you are going to write about English people in English towns, then get the terminology right. Other than that, the plot has some rather large holes in it; e.g. Lady E and Lord M knowing exactly who Mrs W and her 'Uncle' are because they recognised the way they walk!! And then to make sure followed them back to the house they were staying in. So the Secret Service can disguise people really well, but forget to tell them to change their walk. And the chauffeur (who is an SS agent) didn't realise the Lady E and Lord M were following them. Not very good was he? So while this was a bit of light-hearted fun, it could have been much, much better.
I wanted to like this short story. The other two were great, but I just couldn't get into it. Historical inaccuracies aside (Tzar Alexander was not assassinated, it was his son Nicholas), it just didn't really make any sense to me. Perhaps in my boredom I missed it, but why did the Princess feel she had to marry the rake ? This seems like a really important thing which should have been explained. I'm happy to correct my review if anyone can show me I'm wrong ? 2.5 stars
Talk about a complete and utter cad, the antagonist was this and more. The plot is easily followed and the premise is stopping the engagement and possible marriage of a princess of an allied country and the antagonist. The answers are startling and the end a bit anticlimactic, but there is only so much than can be stuffed into so few pages. However, the writing is very good and I definitely recommend this short story.
A delightful novella concerning British Intelligence, foreign intrigue, royal plots, and a narcissistic, cad of a psychopath. Robert and Kitty work in conjunction to foil the evil plans of this madman.
I’m not sure how these crime novels can be great when they are so short, as it never gets going. This did a good job in a short time though and I liked the characters, but seemed to resolve itself in a couple of pages!
I have always enjoyed the Kitty Worthington books! This was very intriguing. The possibility of danger exciting. It is a very fast paced read. Hard to put down!
Quick fun read. If you read the main series these events are a few books behind the events there. I like the cases and that we get to see Kitty in her element at her detective agency.
