When a Demonic Assault occurs, most people stuck inside of a Fracture end up hiding inside of a bunker in the hopes that they don’t get killed by a demon.
Others might even hope for the slightest possible chance at signing a contract with a spirit and becoming a Guardian.
So when Scarlet was caught in a Fracture, the last thing she expected was to become a demon herself.
Exactly two centuries ago, humanity was struck with their very first Demonic Assault. The skies above the capital of the US, shattering as if made of glass; demons of all kinds appearing out of nowhere; and no way to effectively stop them before the end of the Assault.
On the brink of devastation, some of the humans managed to find themselves offered a contract whilst inside of a Fracture. One bringing a chance at power, fame, and fortune.
Now, long after every nation of the world joined together to form the Terran Republic, Scarlet finds herself stuck trying to find a university from the Republic’s capital that will accept someone from a lower tier city into their midst. But, as if that wasn’t already enough trouble for one person to bear, she somehow ends up stuck in one of the Fractures of a Demonic Assault while visiting her father figure’s company building.
However, she doesn't perish in the darkness and instead awakens her dormant bloodline as a noble demon. A Blood Lycan.
Turns out she had been a demon all along and had been born for the apocalypse.

Shane Purdy is a college graduate with a Bachelors in Computer Science. At a young age he became fascinated with Fantasy books after reading the Wereworld series by Curtis Jobling, which led to a love of reading that continues to this day.
When he was younger you could almost always find him with a book in his hand (when he wasn’t busy with Band activities that is). As he got older, he started reading online webnovels as well. In June of 2021, after reading thousands of books, he decided to take the plunge and write a book of his own, starting with his first series, Dungeon from the Void.
He writes both high and low progression fantasy novels of varying genres, including Dungeon Core, LitRPG, Cultivation, Sci-Fi and more.
He does not use any sort of social media for his books other than Reddit, he has no Facebook pages, and his Facebook account is private and not public. Therefore if anyone finds public Facebook or other social media accounts outside of Reddit or Discord claiming to be him, they are fake.
I picked this up without looking for anything specific and the initial parts, specifically the first fracture and the world-building after leaving that fracture kept me reading. However, there are just too many issues I have with the book and the way it's written that I can't bring myself to finish it.
1. The book is written 90% from the perspective of Scarlet, the MC, and large parts of her internal monologue (which is abundant) is about, and constantly repeating, how she doesn't like physical contact, dislikes revealing clothes, is a loner who dislikes the attention she's getting after becoming a guardian and ABSOLUTELY doesn't want anybody to touch her wolf ears. It's fine pointing this out, then repeating it every now and then to remind the reader of these character traits. But having nearly every character Scarlet meets look at her ears, then triggering an internal note about her dislike of someone touching them is grating. The internal monologue is sometimes broken up by her telepathic mascot/system-giver Tar. At first, this alleviated some of the issues I had with the internal monologues, but you can have page after page of little more than internal monologue, rehashing the same topics over and over. Another issue here is the way these internal monologues are structured. The author will have Scarlet describe the location, give context on something happening or just generally move the current scene forward with a line, then have Scarlet give her opinion in a quick additional line. Once I noticed the constant shifting between "Scene moves forward" - "Scarlet comments" - "Scene moves forward" - "Scarlet comments" I essentially stopped reading right there.
2. Scarlet is a plain boring character. She's a loner girl with a few complexes regarding her clothing and physical contact, but besides that she just wants to get stronger and earn more money. There is some backstory about her heritage, but overall, after spending 90% of 510 pages with this character I can't tell you anything noteworthy about her. She isn't crafty, charismatic or in any way endearing to me. She's half wolf demon now and essentially only wants to hunt stronger prey to get stronger herself. You can say that she was, before her awakening, and still is hard-working. But a simple "I want to get stronger" isn't a goal I, as the reader, can latch onto and root for. At one point she makes it her pseudo goal to become a Class III guardian and then allowing her adoptive parents to actually formally adopt her. I say pseudo-goal, because the entire topic is presented as more of a nuisance for Scarlet than anything else. There are also inconsistencies in her character. At first she points out that her dislike of physical contact likely stems from the abandonment she feels at the hands of her biological parents. Then, suddenly, she muses that her birth parents abandoning her doesn't bother her at all because she does very much love her not-yet-official adoptive family. If the abandonment doesn't bother her, than the complex shouldn't be a thing either.
3. The fight scenes don't do anything for me at all and they are far too frequent for my taste. There needs to be a healthy balance and seeing yet another Fracture break open made me feel like I was called to work, because reading the fights scenes just ended with me skipping most of it, reading the dialogues, then continue skipping.
4. The system has no hard rules, instead giving out skills based on arbitrary achievements. For example, the system will give Scarlet a really great skill for almost getting killed (again), engaging an enemy she is completely underleveled for or any random other thing she has done.
Overall, a 2/5 for me. The setting doing enough heavy lifting for me to give it 2 stars. I liked that Guardians are essentially viewed as stars in this world and there is a massive social, financial and even technological divide, not only between Guardians and non-Guardians, but also between cities. This in world united, on paper, under one flag for the express purpose of weathering the demonic threat. In the parts of the book I read, though, this is only window dressing and not explored enough. I would have stopped far sooner, but there was good potential in the aforementioned worldbuilding and Scarlets backstory to keep me going. It simply drags on faaaar too long for my taste.
This is a flat-out action-adventure, anime-style story—exactly what I was looking for. The protagonist is refreshing, her ambitions practical, and the supporting cast well written. There’s just enough heart, humour, and well-timed revelations to keep you invested as the story moves forward. I really enjoyed this book and am jumping straight into the next one.
It's decent reading, I guess. The main character has zero likeability or personality. But Shane Purdy thinks he's hot shit. And he sacrificed his main attraction for two new series that do nothing different. More wolf stuff. That's Shane Purdy. Seriously, finish your books before you have an eight ongoing book portfolio. Then you can have all the female protagonists you want. All that aside, quality in Shane's books has plummeted. I don't know if this is due to his competency or the fact that he's just exited brain rot school. Time will tell.
First 3 books are solid fun, after that it drops off.
Classic YA Litrpg with an OP MC. Humanity is at war with demons MC is an orphan, gets rare magic, surprise surprise she's part demon, battle maniac, levels faster than anyone else,... you know the drill
Characters are fun, worldbuilding is simple but decent and there's an actually interesting plot. Writing itself is pretty bad for the first 20% or so of book 1 for some reason and then become solid.
After book 3 however the plot stops making sense . The entire reason for the war is gone and thousands are just dying for the fun of it. Kind of feels like the author wrote himself into a corner with the whole happy family and now has no clue how to solve it.
PS the covers are really bad and make this look like some harem catgirl series.
Not sure if this was supposed to be YA or not but it definitely seemed juvenile and like it's more suitable for the 16 and under crowd. Perhaps someone who hasn't already read a bunch of series with the exact same sort of story would like it? The characters, tropes, and world building all seemed very unoriginal and basic to me.
The MC starts out as an "orphaned" nobody who's only hoping to somehow get into a slightly "higher tier" college (or city?) even though she's from a lower tier city---but then she's caught in a fracture and suddenly becomes an OP hero and BAM! Everyone's fighting to get to know the new hero. Her mysterious origins will probably be explored at some point, but i honestly couldn't bear to keep reading so i had to quit. Wasn't interested in the story cause it felt like i'd already read it multiple times...
Writing is a bit rough, and there are some... character issues.
This is sorta just a personal preference thing, but I HATED how everyone constantly berated Scarlet for her recklessness. That part was fine, I actually really like people getting called out for real character flaws, the problem was that nothing changed. Scarlet continued to be insanely reckless, and continued to be massively rewarded, and not punished at all for it. I would've loved JUST ONE scene where Scarlet is super reckless and cocky and gets smacked down.
Otherwise, pretty fun. World-building and crunchy skills and numbers stuff was all solid. The added half-demon flavor was great.

I’ve read The Rise of the Winter Wolf, written by this author; so far, this is what I’ve come to expect. I very much enjoy the books with battle junkies. Scarlet, while a bit on the abrasive no nonsense side, there is a goodness and, mostly, fairness she has, which I appreciate. She did start out as a bit OP and rose from there. I would’ve liked to see more of a challenge and getting knocked down a peg or 2 to teach a bit of humility, but that goes along with the type of bloodline she has; so, it is more understandable. This is personal preference, nothing wrong inherently with the book so far. Well done.
It's OK but what is with litrpg books with NO LOOT why are authors writing books with no loot. And this is more like a super hero with levels its kind of predictable and reads more like a book for teenagers i will stick with it even though I'm not really fond of the mc. She one of those women that authors seem to favor i can do everything by myself contrary don't give me anything unless I can pay for it or earn it blah blah blah miss independent 😒 I know exactly 0 women who are like this its annoying 😑 and stupid way of thinking I would rather live in the dirt than let someone help me foolishness. In the end I DNF
I saw this book while reading another Wolf transformation story similar to it and decided why not give it a read. And I haven’t put it down till the end.
It’s new seeing a character be turned into a wolf-person without the tail and fur but it also makes it more interesting to see the other changes from the norm compared to other stories of the like.
I’m very excited to see what happens in the next book, and the ones afterwards, and will continue to dig my claws into them with vigor!
I had good time reading this book. The action scenes were exciting and interesting. The characters were fun and engaging, especially Scarlet and Tar. The interactions between the main character and her companion fae were some of the best parts of the book. Those interactions not only brought depth to their relationship, but was exceptionally well used to build the world around them and to expands on the character's background. Look forward to next book!
I really enjoyed reading this book. The FMC is a badass and even though she is untrained and isn’t really presented as super OP she still finds a way to come out on top in most scenarios because of her cleverness and tenacity. The world building is interesting and the magic system is different than a lot of other books in the genre in how people come into power but the progression of power is similar. It is a very interesting storyline that kept me engaged and wanting to find out what was going to happen next.
Overall, I definitely recommend reading this. There is plenty of action, intrigue, and fantasy/sci-fi elements.
So I think what I liked most about this book was the world building. Don't get me wrong, I like scarlet as a character but the back story of everything going on is what caught my attention the most. Be interesting to see why the demons are invading despite how the book ended.
Scarlet is perfect. She has some weird hang ups about clothes, specifically hating anything revealing, but it's an amusing quirk. Tar is fun, and I like how they're becoming closer. I really want Scarlet to meet her bio parents, just to see if she'll have a reaction.
It has been some time since iicked up a book and binge read it in 2 days. Shane Purdy masterfully takes the reader on a thrilling ride. Our protagonist, Scarlet, finds herself elevated from orphan to oddity, shattering all 'norms' in her world. How she copes with her new found friends and reality leaves the reading chomping for more. A must read.
I wasn't sure about this one at first, especially with opening with a glossary, but this grew on me quickly. Scarlet Wolf is an entertaining and engaging heroine, and it avoids the trap of skill overload, with a short enough list to actually keep in mind.
I was also constantly amused by her struggles with everyone wanting to touch her ears.
The author did very well pacing the story out and though I just started reading the series i definitely the way the stories progressing it’s almost similar to black summoner manhua wise but still different in its own way and just as intriguing. Probably most lengthy review I have given with out any issues being put forth.
Very fun reading. I love the character Scarlet and can identify her attitude to dresses. I'm not a fan of writing reviews but am a fan of Shane. He's a fabulous writer. This is one of my faves series from him currently.
I don't think this author can write a bad book. Read it and determine for yourself how awesome this book is. If you like it read his other books and write a better review than this one. 🙂
This has a well trod academy feeling but differs from other series by not including ice. In general it is not the most original, but it is new for the author and I look forward to more.
This was one of the best books I've read this year, if not ever. The MC is wonderfully broken, but that just gives her more charm. Another great book by Mr. Purdy.
This is a mousy read for those into LitRPGs. The gaming system and leveling isn’t bugged down with unnecessary and hard to follow leveling matrix. Enjoyed book one and rushing off to book #2. 🙌🏾
Your style of writing and story telling steady having me reading all your books. Definitely a favorite story writer for me. Looking forward to this series like the others
You really need to work on your hero/corpstion names has they where really to basic(ex. Company makes magic tech call it MagicCorp, or hero has ice power call them frost).
The only time you got original was with demon name do the one called Satan not so much.
I love the lore behind this story you keep showing hints of. Additionally the power system seems to be well defined. I’m excited to continue reading more in this series.
Progresses really nicely and had a steady character growth rate. She’s not becoming to over powered right away but still very powerful can’t wait to read the next book!
