Okay, Baldur's Gate III is undoubtedly one of the best games I've ever played, with a lot of care put to crafting the setting and the characters. Reading through this book, learning about the inspirations behind each choice, behind the process, made me appreciate all that work even more. From the concept art of the principal characters to the beautiful areas, this was a true feast for eyes.
If I have one complaint... I wish the book had been longer. I'd wish there was more on how SH's and Karlach's concepts evolved (come on, Karlach wasn't even supposed to be an Origin Companion!). Some more on how they designed a particularly change in the character's look. I would love to see more in how some other places were designed. The Zhentarim Hideout? The House of Hope? Come on, you can't omit such locations?
And maybe it's the horny side of me talking, but you can't show a page full of diagrams for sex positions during romance scenes and not include that in the artbook! And you can't mention how githyanki underwear was based on BDSM gear and not show it to us! Not to mention that I'd love to see a fashion show on the pages of this book with the clothes from our favourite tailor.
BTW. did I miss something important in the game? There is concept art of a dragon scale armour in this book and I'm pretty sure you can't obtain it in the game.
The concept art featured in this book is absolutely beautiful. It’s nice to see the evolution and mindset of developers as they created these iconic characters, locales and monsters.
Love this book! Love BG3 the game! And I love D&D! ♥️
Phenomenon 10/10 The artwork is exceptionally detailed. Fascinating trivia and cleverly hidden easter eggs! The monsters and creatures are full of charisma, even outshining the original DnD artwork in 5e (or 6e) :))) The locations and armour sections are well-made and show a lot of creativity + historical inspiration. Another win for Larian Studios.
Better reading this while listening BG3 Soundtrack
I've always wanted to get an artbook relating to Baldur's Gate and I am so glad I stumbled across this one! I have always admired the art in the game while I was playing so this was a visual treat for me from start to finish.
