Dalton is a veteran homicide cop, but suddenly he’s hitting roadblocks. Someone wants to torpedo the investigation. As the body count rises, Dalton suspects his saboteur is involved in the murders.

Trusting no one, Dalton calls on friend Sam Mackenzie for help. Mackenzie, who normally operates on the shady side of the law, brings a computer expert on board, and their efforts uncover a complicated web of deceit.

With each step forward, Dalton knows he must get the killer before the killer gets him.

Michael Dalton leaves his job in Chicago to move to Islamorada in the Florida Keys. He tries to solve a murder but is suspended after his first day at work by someone stirring up his past. He clears himself of that only to run into snags while the murders keep piling up. Dalton finds out who the real killers are with help from his unregistered hundred sixty pound pet cougar named Cupcake that he rescued from being euthanized. The plot is complicated and makes for a good read.
