A missing atomic bomb. A deadly solar flare. A world in chaos.
It’s time for decisive action, and sometimes ordinary people are our only real hope.
Dave Riker sits alone in his dismal apartment with only his dog for company. He is recovering from a devastating personal tragedy that sends him spiraling downward, forcing him to take medical leave from the Albuquerque, New Mexico police department.
A phone call he receives will change the trajectory of his life.
Ria Nielson, an emergency room nurse, is cleaning out her mother’s house when she stumbles upon a decades-old coverup of a missing atomic bomb. The simple task of opening a dusty cardboard box and sifting through its brittle contents will trigger a cascade of deadly events.
When a solar flare unexpectedly slams the country into horrific turmoil, Ria and Dave must combine their skills to not only survive the civil chaos, but also a deadly threat from shadowy figures that will let nothing stand in the way of their sinister goals.
With Dave’s skills and Ria’s determination to live and to fight, she vows, “I refuse to hide. I refuse to yield.”

Hi Readers, this is Chris. I'd like to tell you thanks for stopping by and if you have downloaded a copy of Unexpected World or Uncertain World, man I am really grateful! It is because of readers like yourself that makes Indie publishing possible. Seriously. Thanks a million.
And if you have a moment, could you post a review. One or two sentences is all that is needed. I will be forever grateful. Thank you! Y'all are the best!
I had been burnt out with the current trend of apocalyptic novels that either delve into multiple page descriptions of feelings and thought processes or the extreme details of the weapons the heroes use to survive. Then I found this book!
Beginning with fairly ordinary characters combining with a bit of.mystery and a "best laid plans ..." Attitude this book was a great read. A little suspense, a little romance, and a few true characters, I highly recommend you treat yourself!
This was an interesting twist to the EMP-flavor of the PA genre and overall the writing and editing were good. I'm a little skeptical of a three generation government effort to make sure no one knows what Lars Nielson did, but it added an element of suspense. As I have found before, it does no good for me to yell warnings at the character about the real bad guy. They never listen. As Ria, Dave, Isaiah and Carlos are good and interesting characters, I will continue to see what happens.
Book Review: “Scorched: A Solar Flare CME Post-Apocalyptic Survival Thriller (Dark Winds Series Book 1)” Kindle Edition by Chris Pike (Author) Format: Kindle Edition This was an enjoyable reading experience and had great character development. The historical background is a plus. I hope that there will be a sequel.
