One Night in Bliss, the prequel of the Dae Diaries introduces us to Envy Starr, a halfling with fire abilities that become uncontrollable when she becomes aroused. Most halflings have control issues over their abilities, which means both fae and humans ridicule them. When Envy’s best friend asks her to go with her to an exclusive club, she becomes distracted by the lead singer performing on stage, who later flirts with her, flames erupt. Literally.

If you love your paranormal heroines with zero patience, a sharp wit, and just the right amount of reckless chaos, then One Night in Bliss is an absolute must-read. AK Nevermore delivers a snarky, fast-paced urban fantasy that’s equal parts hilarious, sexy, and delightfully unhinged.

Envy Starr is a hot mess in the best way possible. She’s got a chip on her shoulder, a questionable relationship with alcohol, and a general distaste for authority (especially when that authority wears a captain’s cap). But when she gets roped into playing wing-woman at an exclusive Fae club, things spiral spectacularly out of control—because of course they do.

The humor in this book is top-tier—the kind that makes you snort-laugh in public. But underneath all the sarcasm and chaos, there’s an undercurrent of vulnerability that makes Envy so compelling. And let’s talk about the mystery stage talent who’s way too intriguing for his own good? The chemistry is ridiculous, and I loved every second of their push-pull dynamic.

This book is a riot, packed with mischief, mayhem, and just enough steamy tension to keep things interesting. If you’re in the mood for a heroine who takes no crap, a night out that turns into way more than anyone bargained for, and a writing style that crackles with personality, One Night in Bliss needs to be at the top of your list!

Envy is a halfling with a drinking problem. She;s standing with her best friend, Berk, outside a club named Bliss. They are in the holding pen for halflings..fae sperm donor with a human mother. She was half demon and her stigmata were wings that would crisp everything within a ten mile radius. OUCH! Now she's come up with an idea and she needs to cooperation of the two others behind them. She gets them in and then meets her friend at the bar. As she eyes the area she sees a dude with a capt's hat. Then the bar tender puts an apple-tini in front of her and says there are four more waiting. UGH! She hates that she looks like Snow freaking White! And she hates apples. She tells him to make it a pint of Jager.
The only good thing so far is that her friend seems to be making a tinie tiny bit of headway with the gnome bar tender.
Kyle is a singer in a band. He approaches Envy and they go play pool. Unfortunately for her the bouncer she kneed to get in called the cops then the female she helped get in started a slug fest on Kyle;s female tagon. She gladly gets arrested. Now Kyle has bailed her out.
Well things could have gone better but waffle fries people...WAFFLE FRIES!!!.

Before Envy Starr receives her shocking news in Flame & Shadow, she’s living life like there’s no tomorrow. Her snarky attitude and excess drinking are a part of her persona as a halfling. When her only friend asks her to be his wing-woman at an exclusive club so he can hook up, she’s game. But like anything involving Envy, things go sideways quicker than diving into quicksand. Try as she might, Envy can’t seem to lose the only thing that matters: her virginity. She might as well enjoy the floor show.

One Night in Bliss is a prequel to Flame & Shadow, a taste of one of my favorite urban fantasy heroines. The descriptive narration plays well with the world-building to create a world that is familiar yet with magical beings such as fae, demons, halflings, and more. You’ll be drawn into this world and won’t want to leave.

The star of One Night in Bliss is Envy. Her devil-may-care attitude along with her inner thoughts makes this a must read, especially if you love morally gray characters. Once you get a sampling of Envy, you’ll want to read books one and two. I can’t wait for more books about Envy.

This book was a preview for a series that I downloaded in a free book promo. I love a Rich Boy/Poor Girl Trope, and I also love a theme about discrimination. Don’t worry; this is a snarky, fun short story.

Envy is a half-demon with the ability to erupt flames. You and I would see this as a really cool superhero capability, but in her world, she and other half-fae are marked as inferior. Halflings have a control issue over their abilities, which means both fae and humans disparage them. Worse for Envy, she cannot control her flames and wings when sexually aroused (being a virgin).

When her BFF drags her into a bar, she tries to act as wing(wo)man, but is distracted by the lead singer, who later hits on her. Flames erupt.

BUT this story is not about the plot. It’s about Envy’s personality. While she repeats the same slang a lot, it gives her a unique personality I like. While I don’t want to read about a half-demon, I do like the paranormal urban setting, the dynamic, and the idea for the series.

This was a short read but a prequel to Dae diaries. I loved the snarky thoughts and banter that Envy had and felt on par with her for most of it while at the club so her buddy Berk could meet up with his crush Issac. I liked how this storyline gave a lot of information to make reading the series a little easier and I totally hope we see more of the Michelle she beat up the girl that “flashed wings” at Envy but also stole Michelle’s guy. The whole thing was comical but can’t wait to see where this goes with Envy learning control which is an additional struggle with her being a virgin and getting aroused causing her to easily lose that control. Kyle the lead singer intrigues her and said he “likes to play with fire” so I can’t wait to read the rest.

Envy Starr is a baddass halfling dae with enough snark and wit to keep her surviving. I love her take charge trouble shooting that has no problem using her sexuality to her benefit. But navigating her new powers under control is proving to be a problem for her sex life. This is a fun quick read and intro into her life. Looks like a roller coaster and I’m looking forward to hanging on for the ride.

I absolutely loved this snarky story!

Envy is a halfling who, as halflings do, has difficulty controlling her fire powers.

Kyle is a singer performing at the club where he meets Envy. Cue chaos, fighting, an arrest, flames.... Envy is literally a hot mess!

Such a fun story! Great characters, an original storyline, and all the snarky laughs and feels you could want!.

This is a prequel to the series and since I loved the Stars-Crossed Chronicles, I thought this novella would be the perfect way to get a feel for this world before diving into the full series.

It’s very short and I did find it a bit confusing. There’s a lot of character information squeezed into a small space, but not enough explanation to make everything clear. It felt like a lot of details without a strong sense of the actual story coming through.

Envy is a halfling and loves to drink. But she is not always allowed in the bars because of the dress code. Loving in a nunnery kinda puts a buzz on your evening out outfits. Envy is out with Berk her BFF and he is into the gnome bartender at Bliss. So Envy also meets Kyle.

This was a .5 novella so should have been a good intro to the main series. But it seemed a bit confusing. Maybe there was too much world trying to be packed into a novella and I wish it was a bit more character intro focused with minor world building and more to come in book one. Not sure, just didn't quite get a feel for anything because there wasn't room for it all.

Envy Starr has am uncontrollable ability. It only comes out at the most inopportune moment. She goes to a club with a friend. She is crushing on the lead singer. She gets excited and flames are burning. This is a great prequel to the series.

This was a new author for me, and i cant wait to read more from them. Story was detailed and interesting. Moved at a good pace and had great character interaction. Just the right amount of drama and suspense. Awesome read that I enjoyed.

Okay after reading playing with fire I wasn't sure how I felt about Envy. Because that book was just so much going on that it was hard to form a real opinion. In this book I absolutely love her she's a bad Mama Jama. I think I'm going to like Kyle if he sticks around. I would love to see more of Berk and Isaac.

I completely got lost in the story and I just loved getting to see these new characters come together. I just absolutely love this story and I just didn’t want to put it down. This is like a side story to the main series. There is a brief run through of the world building, enough so that you don't get too lost without the main series. Vy is snarky and an interesting FMC.
