Smart, warm, telling, and funny, Funny, Your Don't Look Like a Grandmother is the perfect bouquet for today's grandmother, that active and interesting woman who is old enough to be somebody's grandmother and young enough to run around the world.Lois Wyse's new book, charmingly illustrated by Lilla Rogers, is a collection of wit and wisdom for today's Nana, Grandma, Goo-Goo, or Gran. How can you recognize today's grandmother?Easy, says Wyse. The grandmother is the one who goes out more and complains less than her daughter. In the spirit of Erma Bombeck and Bill Cosby, Lois Wyse tells loving and amusing stories that illustrate the joys of contemporary grandmothering.According to Lois Wyse, "A mother becomes a true grandmother the day she stops noticing the terrible things her children do because she is so enchanted with the wonderful things her grandchildren do."Contemporary grandmothers and their children and grandchildren will see themselves in these reflections of family life that include everything from how it feels to become a grandmother to gentle advice on parenting and career grandmothers.Funny, You Don't Look Like a Grandmother is the first nontraditional book about grandmothers who may not look like grandmothers -- but who love as deeply as the generations of grannies who preceded them.
I received this book from a friend after I recently became a grandmother. It’s only 100 pages, containing short chapters of everything from humor to experiences to subtle advice to heartwarming stories. Was fun to read.
This is an interesting book that really IS intended for grandmothers, nanas, grans......It contains many words of wit and wisdom for today's grandmothers; someone old enough to be a grandmother, but still do the things that she likes to do. According to the author, "A mother becomes a true grandmother the day she stops noticing the terrible things her children do because she is so enchanted with the wonderful things her grandchildren do".
I just turned 70 and I am a new 1st time grandmother. Compare that with my grandmother who was 46 when her 1st grand arrived. She did not drive. She spent her day Cooking and cleaning For a husband and 7 children. I do drive. I travel usually 2 weeks every month. I am looking forward to this grandbaby going with me. This is a great book about on the go grandmas with convertibles like me.
Another wonderful gift I received as I became a Grammy by a well seasoned Grandma! Fun short stories and thoughts, that will make you laugh, cry, and will defiantly touch your heart. Only 6 months in, I could relate to many of her thoughts, and suggestions!! Fun & helpful, too!
Great find for those looking into the minds of the previous generation or two. Great idea for a gift to announce a pregnancy. Great for a new grandma looking for advice. Great for an already-made grandma to remember the beginning of the journey.
I received this as a gift from my daughter and grandson. Some of the selections really spoke to me. Thanks kids. I really don't look like a grandma! LOL!
As previous reviewers have said, this book was a gift. The day I received it I sat down and read the whole thing. Cute and a nice surprise. I will pass it on to any new grandmother!
If being a grandmother means being a rich New Yorker who sees grand-parenting as spending lotsa money on your grandchildren then this book is for you. It wasn't for me. It is blessedly short and did not make me cringe. I have ten grand children. They are not going to remember the family dinners at my lovely home in Cupertino, the reading of books, the laughter, cuddles, adventures, day trips, or Gran’s magnificent collection of toys. They will remember that they belong and that they are loved.
