The Next Generation

Rate this book
Despite Toni’s legendary brilliance, even she could not stop the march of time. After learning her daughter, Joy, and Joy’s two best friends, Pepper and Alina, attempted to deceive the senior agents in The Organization with a bogus Spring Break cover story, she convinces her wife it’s time to let the Next Generation take over.
The last thing Pepper Maggio expects after agreeing to lead a mission is literally running into the woman she’s followed for years. Not only is Grace Turner beautiful, but she’s a passionate crusader for the same innocents that The Organization vows to protect. Along with her two best friends, the three young women embark on an adventure to save the day. But the mission quickly gets out of hand as the human traffickers target not only Grace and her film crew, but also the young Mexican woman who managed to catch Alina’s eye. Maria might be the bravest of the bunch as a survivor of one of the Mexican mines, but she’s a sitting duck if they don’t intervene. They might be the Next Generation, but they’ll need the full support of The Organization, including Pepper’s lethal mother, Val, to get out of Mexico alive.

One Fan at a Time

Annette is an award-winning author, published by Affinity Rainbow Publications, who lives in the beautiful Pacific Northwest with her wife and their five furry kids. With over thirty published novels, four Lesfic Bard finalist awards, two Lesfic Bard Awards, and one Goldie Award for her fourth novel, Locked Inside, she finally feels like a real author. Annette is as much a reader as a writer and always looking for the next lesfic novel to cue up. She came up with the One Fan at a Time tagline because it rolled off the tongue much better than One Reader at a Time. After pondering who she was at her core, it was all about connecting to each reader on a personal level. She would be the first to admit she doesn't do well with the masses. If someone picks up her book and it touches them she believes she has achieved what she wants with her writing by reaching each reader. It is who she is at her core. I love action-packed stories with badass women combined with some romance - my favorite combination. It's cool that the series ("The Asset Management" by Annette Mori) now continues with the younger generation, the daughters of the original members. Pepper, Alina, and Joy are eager, bold, brave, and full of drive and they want to carry on their mother's legacy. They complement the team well with their skills. But all the tough mothers are worried and afraid that their kids, who are no longer children, are not yet ready to fight the evil of this world.

The three friends try it on their own, which the moms don't appreciate when they figure it out. They send some help. It's fun to see how Pepper, Alina, and Joy have not only inherited their mothers' skills but have also adopted their values. Like their role models, they try to make the world a better place for women.

The first adventure of the second generation is set 20 years in the future. The three women want to hunt down a trafficker in Mexico. With false promises, these shady characters buy girls from destitute parents who then make them work in mines under inhumane conditions. When Pepper meets her TV crush Grace Turner by chance, a documentary filmmaker and crusader for the poor and unfortunate, they join forces.

I like the spirited young women who act cold-bloodedly under pressure, but when it comes to feelings they are still shy and insecure and have yet to find their way. In addition to all the thrilling action, suspense, and fighting, there is also plenty of romance.

The Organization has new members taught by the best.

It is just so great to have the Organization crew with the inheritance of all those skills visible in their daughters. The passion to make a difference in this world continuing the work of bringing attention to child slavery, sex trafficking and oppression of women fills this new generation. Joy, Pepper and Alina are just as saucy and brilliant as their Mom's wanting so much to show they can do their part. Having Val, Toni, Sophie and the new Gracie helping spin this tail of deception in the world made the story bold and full of intrigue. The new tech gadgets, the costumes and of course explosive encounters make this a great story. I can't wait to read the next adventure from the Next Generation

Really enjoyed reading this next generation of the Organization. The characters are well developed and interesting.. Can't wait to read the next book in this new series. Although it is not necessary, reading the other books about the early times of the Organization would provide great background information.

I enjoyed jump back into this series, but was looking for more. But it's a good start to the kids taking over missions.
