SO CUTE !!

This is a spin off of Fox Eared Jealousy, and while it wasn't as cute, I still enjoyed it. Both leads have felt like outcasts in their own lives, so they are able to connect on a deeper level from the start. It starts with friendship and then becomes more. The confession scene at the end was very sweet.

Adding this to the comfy BL shelf immediately.!! Didn’t read the prequel, but it works totally fine as a standalone.
It’s that soft “enemies” to lovers vibe—more like two lonely dudes slowly orbiting each other until they just click. The way they actually talk things out?? Shockingly healthy!! Honestly, some of the best communication I’ve seen in BL.
Low drama, high tenderness. Loved it so much 🥹💓

Kinda bland and lacking in cuteness compared to the prequel 🤷🏻♀️

This is cute, but not much more. It does, however, have a cat named Furball, for whom I will forgive many narrative contrivances.

Accidentally read this series in reverse order, haha. But I didn't feel like it hurt the experience too bad. I thought the plot for this was a little weak and that the leads lacked chemistry a bit. The writing felt a little forced. But I thought the art was alright and print quality of the book itself was pretty good.

Love this one more than Fox-Colored Jealousy.

I enjoyed this just as much as Fox Colored Jealousy. It's super cute with just a touch of spice. The ending felt a little rushed making me wish it could be a duology but overall really enjoyed it.

4.25. Cute, and kind of wholesome. I really liked the two kindred spirits vibe we had going on, and I loved how they opened up to each other.

where to read: mangaplanet
Rating: 3.5*
Kind of a Wolf is a companion to Fox-Colored Jealousy. It follows one of the side characters and his romance with his scary neighbor, who finds out about his wolf ears and tail. There's also a little cameo of the mcs.
this was a cute little palette cleanser. I feel like I've been reading a lot of smutty garbage recently and this was just some cute mindless fluff. I wish I had read this closer to when I read the fox one, but you don't *need* to read them together to fully understand the story. I did want a little more, but I still enjoyed it.

I read the whole first chapter going "wow, this reminds me a lot of Fox Colored Jealousy" only to look it up and find out that it's the same mangaka. And then to start chapter two and nearly shout "OH IT'S A SPIN OFF" out loud. lol.
AND WHAT A SPIN OFF IT IS!!!!!!! WAHHH!!
I ADORED this manga oh my GOD. The art was just so beautiful (especially Hayato, and especially eyes), and I kept finding myself lost in character's expressions. I noted in my review of Fox Colored Jealousy that the art was hit and miss, and that I felt like it was improving as the story went on, and considering this is a spin off, I stand by that. The art is SO good here and doesn't have any of the wonkiness I felt about Fox Colored Jealousy.
I love how much more character and development Hayato got in this volume, and I loved seeing how his possession impacted his life -- the idea that he literally cannot control himself and hates that he becomes something that's not him and that he cannot remember at all was really well done, as was his self imposed isolation due to smells. (Both of these things hit really hard for me as a neurodivergent who spent years feeling like I wasn't in control of my mind and body, and who has an extremely sensitive sense of smell, so I couldn't help but read his character as a neurodivergent allegory.) (Which, what are werewolf-esque characters if not an allegory for neurodivergence or queerness tbh)
And the relationship between Hayato and Shiroki;;;; It was perfect to me. I love relationships were you feel accepted for who you are without any conditions (neurodivergence allegory!!!!!) and that you finally feel safe to be yourself and to let down your guard, put down your sword.
This is much more rambling and scattered than my usual reviews, but that is just due to how I really loved this manga.
Also special shout out to Yen Press? The physical edition feels really nice to hold; the binding was really crisp and tight, and I like the feeling and thickness of the pages.

This is a cute story about two boys who are both lonely and have learned to distrust their own feelings and the acceptance of those around them for different reasons. Put them together with the right mix of attraction and you get the perfect storm. Shiroki just wants some peace and quiet with his cat. Hayato is desperate for somewhere to belong and doesn't realize he tends to get very loud when he's excited, something that drives Shiroki crazy when Hayato is gaming all night (not that he realizes that's what is going on - he just thinks Hayato is loud). Hayato is even afraid of Shiroki at first, but when Shiroki learns Hayato's secret and he realizes he can be comfortable around Shiroki (both because of his acceptance and odd lack of scent), he may do a 180 and become a little clingy. So long as the boys learn to communicate, it seems like a match made in heaven. There are hints of a past with the only other "possessed" person in the story as well that I was curious about, though there wasn't much detail, so a tad surprised to learn that there is a separate story for that pairing and that this is considered a sequel.

This was waaaayyy cuter than i thought it would be. I liked the art so much but the story was progressing a bit fast since it’s only one book. You can see them growing closer but the tension was missing a bit and all of the sudden one of them realised that they were in love.
One of the guys is possessed by a wolf spirit but I’m very glad this was not an A/O/B universe and it wasn’t really frowned upon by the other characters that knew. It’s not something thats out in the open but the wolfy characters weren’t looked down upon.
You really get to see their thoughts and some background such as friends or scenarios that happend in the past. For a BL they are both very much green flags.
In this story you have Hayato, he is possessed by a wolf spirit, because of this his sense of smell is heightened. Next to him lived Shiroki, he is just annoyed with Hayato because he makes too much noice.
When Shiroki’s cat walks over to Hayato he has to go inside his house. There he finds Hayato, with ears and a tail. Hayato cant really smell Shiroki, which is good vuz then Hayato doesn’t get overwhelmed by it. In the end they get closer and eventually get a happy ending together.

Oogami is Shiroki's loud neighbor, but after sternly asking him to lower the volume, Oogami quiets down to the point that Shiroki thinks no one is home when he sneaks in to retrieve his wayward kitty, only to come face to face with Oogami with wolf ears and a tail and...
Okay, this started off cute and seemed like these two would get closer naturally and the biggest bump would be the two of them admitting that they're gay and want a relationship... right up until Shiroki admits that he grabbed Oogami's dick that first night. Arguably, that's sexual assault, especially since Oogami was out of his mind enough to not remember anything. Oogami admits he has trouble controlling his wolf sometimes, but he takes responsibility for his mistakes and takes steps to separate himself from potentially disastrous situation. But Shiroki just lies and pretends it didn't happen... until it happens again.
I dunno, there's a line where "I trust you" gets broken, and that would be mine.

The sequel is finally here!
I was wondering when we’d get Oogami‘s POV. His relationship with his neighbor, Shiroki, turned more was cute and had a lot of heartwarming emotional moments sprinkled throughout. I felt like they really got one another and became a safe haven for each other. I did chuckle at the squeezed in moments of smut at the end (kind of starting to feel very formulaic at this point) but even without it, I wouldn’t have questioned their feelings for one another. Also, there was a cute cat!
I did really enjoy meeting the fox spirit in Fox Colored Jealousy, so I was a little bummed that we didn’t get to meet the wolf spirit in this spin-off. But, instead we got a cute neighbors-to-friends-to-lovers instead.
Thanks Edelweiss and the publisher for a DRC! I wouldn’t have even known this came out if it wasn’t for seeing it there. Thank gosh I’m newsy.

I didn't realize this was kind of a spin-off to another volume that came out awhile ago that I bought but have yet to read. I loved this! It was so emotional that I teared up a few times. Oogami and Shiroki might not seem like they'd work together, but they're both guys who have been hurt and are lonely and afraid to connect with other people while letting their true selves out. I loved the progression of their relationship. It was really sweet. There were a few spicier moments, but for the most part the story was just two men falling in love and not being lonely anymore. Highly recommend.

I consider this book to be a marked improvement over Fox-Colored Jealousy in terms of story, though it doesn't come close to being as adorable. As characters, Oogami Hayato and Shiroki feel a bit more grounded and easy to relate to than Akiha Konno and Yukuri Takahashi— they have different struggles yet find comfort in each other in a classic "opposites attract" pairing.
This book does benefit from having Hayato as an established character, in this story he is redeemed after being something of an antagonist.

Kind of a Wolf is a nice bl manga, I liked the opposites attract sort of dynamic that the main characters had going. I liked their romance, I feel they had a decent amount of time being friends and a good solid bond that lead into their relationship. This was a good written and illustrated manga. I liked Hayato and Shiroki characters and I feel that they go well with each other. I liked the wolf aspects, it was neat and lead to some good soft and sexier moments. I’m very happy with them! Thank you to Edelweiss and the publisher for my complimentary review copy.

Seriously cute!
I didn't realise at first - thought I probably should have, from the style of the cover art - that this was a continuation of Fox Colored Jealousy. However, it's written as a standalone, so you don't have to have read that first.
I loved everything about this - the redemption story, the hurt/comfort, the reappearance of other characters, and the gorgeous artwork. These two books will definitely be a feel-good re-read in the future.
