Beachouse Studios: A Dark Gay Thriller

Rate this book
Ry Thompson is finally free.

He’s packed a bag, set fire to his old life, and hopped on a cross-country flight. His dream is to build a new identity as a model at gay porn company Beachouse Studios, where Ry plans to settle into a life of sex, parties, and getting paid a lot of money for both of those things. He’s willing to do whatever it takes to make that dream a reality, and that includes selling his soul.

Dan Sebring can’t afford mistakes.

As the new producer of Beachouse Studios, it is Dan’s job to somehow turn the failing studio into a professional outlet. But Dan’s ambitions run deeper and darker. To achieve them, he’ll need total control of the studio and its assets. Ry might prove to be Dan’s best choice, but only if Dan can bring the reckless and irresponsible young model under his control.

Dan and Ry’s tenuous alliance to purge a toxic element from the studio is complicated by their own agendas. As Ry digs himself deeper into the lie that is his life and Dan schemes to uncover Ry’s past, the two spiral around each other through a web of secrets. All that waits at the center, if they even reach it, are bloody, deadly consequences.

Charles W. Rogers (sometimes C. W. Rogers) is an LA-based writer and podcaster. He is a graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design with a BFA in "Dramatic Writing," which is just a fancy way to say he spent too much money on coffee while writing scripts for four years. When not writing, he is a co-host of the Star Wars tv analysis podcast "Gold Squadron Gays" and a cast member of the TTRPG podcast "For Light And Dice".

When he is not writing or grumbling into a microphone about Star Wars, Charles spends his time bothering his cat Jonathan Harker with random history facts he read and replaying the Dragon Age games.

As a beta reader of this book, I have seen it grow to the novel it is today. Rogers puts together a fascinating story told from two vastly different points of view. You get a naive chaos demon twink who thinks they are so clever and know everything along with a no nonsense logic driven middle aged man on a revenge tour.

Although there are still mysteries left unsolved by the end of the book, all the plot points that have been boiling get answered. It’s interesting to see the back and forth between the night of the incident and the 3 months leading up to it.

I’m obsessed with Emily and Dan. Truly icons in their own right.

Can’t wait for the next installment!!

This is tentatively a 4 star. It ends on a definite cliffhanger, so while I liked the book, until the story reaches it’s conclusion, this thriller might be thrilling or a hot mess.

I really like Ry, the “chaos twink”. Dan is a bit more of an enigma… though I suppose they both are.

There’s a few things that I’m unclear of the motive of. I assume they will be revealed later in the series. But maybe they won’t.

As far as the CWs go, while they are included, it also directs you to the author’s site for a complete list… which is almost identical to what is in the book, with the exception of maybe one addition… so I’m not sure why it wasn’t just put into the book the same?

I'm going to say exactly what I said on my Amazon review because I think everyone should get to know this wonderfully twisted world. Beachouse Studios was everything I wanted it to be. This is the first in what's set up to be a standout series delivered on an unhinged, unapologetically queer, very adult story. It does not pull punches on the more gruesome side of the adult entertainment industry, and it's very clear that C.W. Rogers did the research. It's a masterclass on how to write unlikable characters who you still find yourself rooting for. Exploring the various shades of grey with this wonderfully messed up ensemble cast while facing deadly consequences left me unable to put the book down. At the core, though, is the tense work relationship between Dan and Ry, who must put up with each other to save their way of life. Those two are so fascinating in every single scene they share, trying to one-up each other as tense, untrustworthy allies. Get this book. I am already excited for the next installment after being left on that heck of an ending!

Beachouse Studios by CW Rogers is a deliciously trashy drama in the best possible way—fast, messy, and impossible to put down. Set in the scandalous world of a struggling gay porn studio, the novel follows a new model with a mysterious past and a no-nonsense producer determined to turn things around. What unfolds is a wild ride packed with sex, drugs, and murder, a queer Big Little Lies–style romp that barely gives you a moment to breathe.

The breakneck pacing keeps the story thrilling, bouncing from one scene to the next as the tangled relationships, buried secrets, and industry politics unravel. The characters are messy, flawed, and fascinating, making their interactions a constant source of drama and tension. And just when you think you have a handle on things, Rogers delivers an ending so shocking, so chaotic, that you’ll be desperate for the next book.

While the sheer speed of the plot sometimes leaves characterization and deeper emotional moments in the dust, that’s part of the fun—this book isn’t here to be subtle. It’s here to entertain, and it does so spectacularly. If you’re looking for a high-stakes, no-holds-barred drama filled with queer intrigue, Beachouse Studios is a wild, wickedly fun read that delivers exactly what it promises.
