But before she hits the delivery room, she's got one last piece of business to take care of-hooking up her single friends with a pair of sexy brothers.Lishelle and Claudia are more than ready for no-strings-attached flings. Soon Lishelle and gorgeous, insatiable Jared are setting the sheets on fire. Even back in Atlanta, the sex is amazing. So why is she bothered that her ex-boyfriend-the one she dumped-is getting married?Meanwhile, Claudia can't get enough of Chad's toe-curling, scream-inducing moves. But introduce him to her high-society friends? Puh-lease. Sure, he's funny, smart and devoted-but without movie-star looks or a matching bank balance, he's hardly Claudia's ideal man. She has an image to maintain. But when tragedy strikes, it becomes apparent to the friends that they need to rethink what's important. Because while a hard man is good to find, it takes more than luck to keep him!

My Take:

I don't know where to start ... honestly. Part of it might be the fact that I didn't realize this book was part of a series until about halfway through. Part of it might be the fact that I didn't understand what was going on throughout the entire first chapter. And the second ... and most of the third.

I'm STILL scratching my head at how this thing was written. Let me explain. This book is written in present tense (something I'm not fond of) and entirely in first person from three different POV's--all from the women in the book. Three friends who are going through different problems in their lives and we follow them on this road to great sex and relationships.

Basically you have Annalise--the five month pregnant girlfriend of a dude name Dom--who is sad because her friends, Claudia and Lishelle, can't seem to get and keep a "good" man. A good man being one who takes care of you and doesn't cheat, which has apparently happened to EVERY character mentioned in this book. Some on numerous occasions. While true-to-life, that is so cliched--especially when every character in the book is jaded because of it.

So the book starts off with the girls meeting up for their weekly gossip and bitch fest at a local buffet (again, rather cliche ... except for maybe the buffet part, that was just weird). The entire first chapter covers a lot of back story and why the girls are or are not happy now. The generalized chick lit sex-in-the-city junk.

By chapter two, you've got one of the girls having casual sex with a practical stranger and she's not enjoying it. She too hung up on the recently engaged ex-boyfriend and struggles to get off. It's awkward.

And by chapter four, you've got the five month pregnant chic having sex with her boyfriend in a Cadillac SUV in the garage whilst mommy dearest knits a gift for baby on the other side of the door. YUCK. YUCK. YUCK. Erotic fiction that has a woman who is pregnant having sex? REALLY?

Now, I know pregnant women have sex. Hell, they have good sex most of the time before the belly gets too big and in the way, but I sure as hell DO NOT want to read about it. The imagery is off-putting to say the least and at the moment I wanted to put the book down and never pick it up again. Especially since the author spent a great deal of time explaining how the soon-to-mother loves her big baby bump and is constantly running her hand over it. Cringe-worthy.

Let's just say this book is not something I expected from Harlequin Spice. At all. Besides the fact that you are following around three women in only their pov's, it's WAY more chic-lit than erotic fiction. And the romance aspect is totally lost until you get pretty far into it. And even though you read this story from three pov's, all the women pretty much have the same voice. There's really nothing that distinguishes one woman from the other.

The writing was good, the descriptions well done, and all that standard junk. And even the plot (and all the little subplot and tidbits about their lives where good, too). But the style of this book--the alternating POV's, the content, and the fact that it's billed as an erotic fiction is just wrong. I applaud the author for doing something different but it's just didn't work for me.

I'll be scratching my head for awhile.

Getting Lucky is the thrid book in this series and hopefully the last.....Getting Even(book 1)...Getting Some(book 2) which I honestly LIKED both of them but this thrid book left a lot to be desired....I'm all for a story about women having hang ups due to their past relationships. But somewhere along the way you want to say "get over it and move on".... or do something about it......I mean damn these women are over 30 yrs old.....Claudia and Lishelle were miserable and stuck up and complained about the men in their lives or the men that was in their lives........Annelize the third one of the group..... don't really know what to say about her......she is happily in love and pregnant with her boyfriend who wants to marry her but she can't seem to get pass the betrayal of her ex-husband.....

I'm a big fan of chick-lit that centers around a group of friends. Something about filling the Sex and the City sized void in my life. And for the most part, this book got the job done. It had all the crucial elements: witty dialogue, devoted friends, sexy encounters and a Mexican vacation. For the most part, I enjoyed this book. The only thing that bothered be was each woman's initial negative attitude towards men.

I'm all for a story about women having hang ups due to their past relationships. It's the past that makes us who we are. But to throw three women, each with their own issues, into one book... well, it seemed to create one long man-hating rant from three different perspectives. Their attitudes (well two of them) were cranky, miserable and stuck up.

However... When you think about it, that's how Carrie and the girls were, too. They all had man issues and most of the time were kind of bitchy about it. It's what kept me watching the show, and it's what kept me reading this book. I probably wouldn't have kept reading if the women were pushovers, whiny or self-loathing. For the women of this story to stand up and take charge of what they want took self confidence and guts. I like strong characters like that. I guess my point is, bitchy and cranky isn't always a bad thing in a book (or show or movie, for that matter). As long as it's done in a way that moves things along.

Of course, the friendship element was a crucial part of this story. The women are very close, which I love, and they confide in each other about everything. As the story moves along, there are trial points in their friendships, but nothing catastrophic. It's just enough to add tension and drama to the plot without derailing the whole story. And when a life-threatening event lands one friend in the hospital, it brings the women together, along with the realization that sometimes it's best to let the past stay in the past.

An insightful study of the friendship, connections, love affairs, inner thoughts along with insecurities, fears, hopes and aspirations of three friends, two African-American women and their white "sister." Their's was an extremely close relationship--really family to one another--and each tells her own story. Each chapter is the first person narrative of one of the women so that situations, love connections, and upsets are seen from three different perspectives. I personally don't like first-person narratives very well--I never have. But in spite of my personal prejudice I still found the story compelling as each woman had to work through her own anxieties about personal relationships. Each woman did indeed have an overriding issue that was upending their love relationship and as they talked it through the dynamic of "best friends" was exciting. This factor made the book quite beyond the ordinary re-telling of more erotic encounters. Each woman did indeed make her own decisions yet the input of the other two friends was important. It was a very emotional story and one that was quite different from others I have read recently. I found it very entertaining and I know that I certainly wasn't prone to put it down. A really terrific read!

The book started out typical enough. Girl, Annelise, is happy and pregnant and wants to make sure her friends, Claudia & Lishelle are equally happy. During their weekly brunch Lishelle announces she met someone which couldn't have come at a more perfect time when she learns her ex just got engaged. I was immediately turned off when Lishelle uses the guy she just met for sex. As a way to forget about her ex. I just about put the book down right then and there. But I was less than 50 pages in so I decided to give the book a fair try. I am glad I did.

While I felt like I was missing some information because this is the third book about these friends, I still enjoyed the basic plot. I think I could have enjoyed the book more if I had read the previous two, been a little better acquainted with the characters and why they acted the way they did.

I'm not sure how to review this book. I'll just be honest. This book is not for me and I don't really like the storyline of this book. I find it way too much a chic-lit to my liking and I can hardly follow the storyline.

This book is definitely not something I'll pick up again in the future, but don't let my opinion stop you for reading it. As they say, one man'smeat is another man's poison.

I rate this book 2 stars. I received an ARC of this book from Harlequin via Netgalley. I was under no obligation to write a positive review for this book.

Wow, Steamy, Sexy and Exciting! I love this story and the characters; these 3 ladies were more than best friends, closer than sisters. Their friendship was natural, nurturing, and beyond loving...

Each girl, Annelise, Lissele, Claudia, had doubt at finding love after they were cheated on by their spouses and left devastated! But as our story unfold, they each showed growth in leaning on each other and finally accomplishing true happiness....highly recommended!

This is written in the first person, even when the book changes from one character to another it keeps the first person perspective. I personally find this hard as they all have the same voice and feel. I also found it hard to connect with the women as there was no clear protagonist so one one to drive the story. I think if you like diary style writing you would like this but sadly I don't.

I had a hard time sticking to this book. I'm not one to just quit reading if I don't like it, but I almost did with this one. The general idea of the story is typical, and good. I just think it wasn't well written. :(

Yeah...won't be finishing this one. I hate the changing POVs in this book and I don't like the female characters. Maybe if I stuck with it, my opinion will change. But right now I don't really care.

A very easy read as usual for this author. A nice story about three friends searching for love.
