New York Times bestselling author Jude Deveraux returns to the ruggedly magnificent island in For All Time, the second novel in her Nantucket Brides trilogy—this time featuring the next generation of her beloved family of Montgomery-Taggerts.

The wedding of Alix Madsen and Jared Montgomery is a glorious affair at an elegant little chapel in the woods, followed by dinner and dancing, all while moonlight blankets the festivities in a romantic glow. While most guests are fixed on the happy couple, Jared’s cousin Graydon can’t look away from a bridesmaid, Toby Wyndam. It’s not just her quiet beauty that enthralls him or the way she makes him laugh. Toby possesses the truly remarkable ability of being able to distinguish Graydon from his identical twin brother, Rory. According to family legend, such a gift marks her as Graydon’s True Love.

But Graydon knows there is no possible way that they can ever be together, for he is heir to the Lanconian throne and is to marry a noble woman who has been chosen for him. Yet, intrigued by Toby, he asks her to help him hide on Nantuck for a week away from regal responsibilities. In exchange, he’ll assist her with planning acclaimed novelist Victoria Madsen’s lavish wedding. Since they both know their union is impossible, the pair promises that they will never be more than just friends.

But there’s more going on between Graydon and Toby than her unique power to tell him apart from his twin. At work are forces beyond their control, which are ruled by time itself. Combine that with the magical island of Nantucket, and a seductive spell is cast over Graydon and Toby. If they are to be together, they must change what once was, as well as what will be.

Jude Gilliam was born September 20, 1947 in Fairdale, Kentucky. She has a large extended family and is the elder sister of four brothers. She attended Murray State University and received a degree in Art. In 1967, Jude married and took her husband's surname of White, but four years later they divorced. For years, she worked as 5th-grade teacher.

She began writing in 1976, and published her first book, The Enchanted Land (1977) under the name Jude Deveraux. Following the publication of her first novel, she resigned her teaching position. Now, she is the author of 31 New York Times bestsellers.

Jude won readers' hearts with the epic Velvet series, which revolves around the lives of the Montgomery family's irresistible men. Jude's early books are set largely in 15th- and 16th-century England; in them her fierce, impassioned protagonists find themselves in the midst of blood feuds and wars. Her heroines are equally scrappy -- medieval Scarlett O'Haras who often have a low regard for the men who eventually win them over. They're fighters, certainly, but they're also beauties who are preoccupied with survival and family preservation.

Jude has also stepped outside her milieu, with mixed results. Her James River trilogy (River Lady, Lost Lady, and Counterfeit Lady) is set mostly in post-Revolution America; the popular, softer-edged Twin of Fire/Twin of Ice moves to 19th-century Colorado and introduces another hunky-man clan, the Taggerts.

Deveraux manages to evoke a strong and convincing atmosphere for each of her books, but her dialogue and characters are as familiar as a modern-day soap opera's. "Historicals seem to be all I'm capable of," Jude once said in an interview, referring to a now out-of-print attempt at contemporary fiction, 1982's Casa Grande. "I don't want to write family sagas or occult books, and I have no intention of again trying to ruin the contemporary market." Still, Jude did later attempt modern-day romances, such as the lighthearted High Tide (her first murder caper), the contemporary female friendship story The Summerhouse, and the time-traveling Knight in Shining Armor. In fact, with 2002's The Mulberry Tree, Deveraux seems to be getting more comfortable setting stories in the present, which is a good thing, since the fans she won with her historical books are eager to follow her into the future.

Jude married Claude White, who she later divorced in 1993. Around the same time she met Mohammed Montassir with whom she had a son, Sam Alexander Montassir, in 1997. On Oct. 6th, 2005, Sam died at the age of eight in a motorcycle accident.

Jude has lived in several countries and all over the United States. She currently lives in Charlotte, North Carolina and has an additional home in the medieval city of Badolato, Italy.

Because I have a house on Nantucket Island, I often read books about Nantucket.

This novel has everything I hate about typical "romance books"; non-existing plot line, superficial characters, over-the-top situations...I don't have time to list all of them. Why can't we have interesting romance novels which can be just "novels"?

I know I shouldn't expect too much from a romance novel, but the historical facts in this novel are just outrageous! The names of current stores and restaurants are accurate, and some of the whaling histories are sort of true. But, regency era Nantucket are dominated by The Society of Friends which looked down upon music and dancing. The women never wore these revealing dresses Deveraux described. The dominance of The Society started to decline after 1820, but not during the regency era.

Also, the women on Nantucket were very independent and strong in those days. They managed (or run) business while men were whaling. Widows were not helpless like Deveraux described. I know it's just romance, but if it's supposed to be a "historical romance", I would like Deveraux to write somewhat accurate history. I wouldn't like readers to believe that was a real Nantucket in early 19th century.

I usually like Jude Deveraux's books enough to read most of them and even finish a lot of them, but I do find myself skimming quite frequently.

This one was about like that: enjoyable but not great. Interesting but not unique. Many flaws in the internal logic of her time-travel aspects, and somewhat trite in the romantic set-ups.

CHIEF COMPLAINT: Why, oh why, do romance authors think it's romantic for the female character to be a virgin at the age of.... whatever over 18???? This character must be about mid-twenties or older, so unless she grew up under a rock or in a religious cult, has a mental or physical disability or some other serious problem, being a virgin at that age in 2014 is ridiculous.

Not only that, but why is that "romantic"??? There is something so inherently disagreeably sexist and archaic about that it makes me want to throw those books across rooms and scream.

"Otherwise, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play?"

I read the first book in this series waaaayyy back so the details were fuzzy but they came back fairly quickly. I remember enjoying the first book and the second was no different. I'm a sucker for a cute love story and when there's even the slightest magical element, I'm completely sold! And unlike a lot of typical romances, this one actually kept me guessing throughout. This was a pure guilty pleasure read for me and I absolutely loved it!

This book felt lackluster, without real chemistry or passion. The time travel (paranormal) element didn't fit neatly into the plot and mostly became a distraction. There was definitely no proper setup for it.

Basic setup: Toby and Graydon meet at a wedding. She can tell Graydon apart from his identical twin brother which, apparently, means they're destined for one another. Might have been cute, if it had been followed up with anything else that convinced me these two needed one another. And I mean aside from a poorly-constructed past life drama.

The thing is, Graydon's the crown prince of a made up country and he has to marry someone else. This type of conflict rarely ends well. It usually ends with a good sweep and a rug and this story was no different.

The beginning of the story nearly lost me due to name confusion. I was pelted with so many people all at once that I couldn't keep any of it straight. And I felt like I was missing something, even though I had actually read the prequel.

Then Graydon plays hooky from being the crown prince to spend time with Toby. That was fine. He and Toby end up planning someone else's wedding together, but nothing between them felt particularly intense.

The characters themselves were part of the problem. Toby is a virgin because she's never felt passion before. I've read that before and it always deserves an eye roll, but in this case I didn't feel like she was feeling passion now either. Her initial reaction to Graydon was annoyance/dislike. It all had to do with the fact that her mom was desperate to marry her off, which never quite made sense to me on any level ... either the mother's motivations or the daughter's reaction. Toby became highly reserved, so much so that it was hard to identify with her at all.

Graydon was also reserved, which I believe was supposed to make the compatible. And in another story I probably would have bought into that, but not one that involves traveling through time, falling in love in a past life, and then changing the circumstances of that past life so they could be together then all the while struggling with the fact that they can't be together now (until rug sweeping time).

I didn't care for the past life stuff at all. I didn't see a strong enough connection between their troubles back then and their current troubles, and the solution was sufficiently different between the two cases that it rendered the past life encounters a total distraction and an excuse for them to make love in someone else's body.

All in all, not one of Deveraux's best.

lindo, lindo... amei!!!

This book had all the right elements to make it a winner but unfortunately it just didn't flow for me. I was honestly surprised to see that this was first published in 2014. The story felt much older to me because one of the main characters was a modern day prince in an arranged marriage, and the other main character was constantly lamenting about the fact that she is still a virgin. I have read other books by Jude Deveraux that I have loved especially her time travel ones. This one said it was a time travel novel but I didn't really read about any time travel until mid way through and even then it was confusing and wasn't fully explained until the end. The novel was also too long. The romance parts were good and I did like Toby. There was a nice twist at the end which did redeem this book a little for me. However this book just fell short for me.

Re-reading.

Original Review: "For All Time" opens up right where "True Love" (book # 1 in the Nantucket Brides Trilogy) left off with the wedding of Alix Madsen and Jared Montgomery. Jared's cousin, Graydon Montgomery (an identical twin who also happens to be a real prince and future king of small, but well known, country) is in attendance. Partnered with Graydon in the wedding party is Toby Wyndam. Toby is Alix' very dear friend.

There is a legend in the Montgomery family that if a lady can distinguish the difference between identical Montgomery twins, she is that twin's true love. An incident occurs at the end of "True Love," Book #1 in the Nantucket Brides Trilogy (you MUST read it, it is fabulous) which sets up Toby's instant dislike of Graydon's twin. Graydon is shocked and intrigued that Toby can decipher the difference between the two brothers and is totally mesmerized upon first meeting her. From that moment on, the sparks and the fireworks ignited by these two delightful characters fly!

I loved this book! We have star-crossed lovers, elements of time travel, reincarnation and an amazing cast of secondary characters which bring life to the story. As always, Jude Deveraux paints such a clear, enticing picture of her backdrop, Nantucket, that makes you want to visit the beautiful, historic island. Toby is a sweet, endearing, warm-hearted girl tormented by her obsessed, controlling marriage-minded mother. Graydon is every inch the charming, handsome, thoughtful future king who has never come across anyone quite like Toby. While Toby is fully aware of his background, she puts him in his place when needed, grounds him, teases him and treats him like a normal person. The interaction between the two was a joy to read.

There were many twists and turns and mysteries to solve. I thought I figured out how they were going to finally get together, but I was wrong. I loved that. I'm so pleased that Jude Deveraux has returned to the current generation of Montgomery/Taggerts.

I highly recommend this wonderful love story. It will warm your heart and put a smile on your face. I can't wait for the third book!

DNF. What a weird few chapters… the “heroine must be my true love because she can tell us twin brothers apart” thing is extremely funny (how do you know which twin is her true love, then?!). I read spoilers from reviews and this book is *wild.*

All the respect to Jude for writing this wild series stretching from the medieval era to contemporary times. This isn’t for me, but I’ll try a historical in the future.

¡No!

I received an advance reader edition of this book from Random House Publishing Group for the purpose of providing an honest review.

4 Stars

I feel that I must start this review by saying that this is not the first Jude Deveraux book that I have read in my life and I would count myself as one of her fans. I have enjoyed every book by this author that I have had the chance to read and have yet to be let down. I have read her more recent works and have yet to read her earlier work although I have heard that some of her earlier books are by far her best. I felt that this book lived up to the expectations that I have when reading a book by Jude Deveraux.

This book is the second book in the Nantucket Brides Trilogy. While I think it would be most enjoyable to read the trilogy in its intended order, I do think that this book could be read as a stand alone.

Graydon and Toby meet at Jared and Alix's wedding. Graydon has an identical twin brother, Rory, and Toby is able to tell the men apart. Graydon's family believes that whoever can tell the twins apart will be their true love. Not only is Graydon polite, charming, and drop dead gorgeous, he happens to be the heir to the Lancanion throne. Yep - Graydon is a Prince. Graydon arranges to spend some time in Nantucket to get closer to Toby.

While Toby is attracted to Graydon, she tries to keep control of her emotions because she knows that there is no way that the pair can ever be together. Graydon has a soon to be fiance that has been chosen for him. The pair grow closer as they work together to plan a close family friend's wedding.

I did have a moment while reading this book that it seemed completely unoriginal. I mean this book had identical twins switching places, a prince who wants to be with his true love, and the commoner who does not feel like she can ever have the prince. Things did pick up and I felt that book seemed more original the further I read. I love how Jude Deveraux slips a little paranormal aspect into most of her books - at least the ones that I have had a chance to read. This book was no exception. Nothing like a little time travel to keep things interesting.

All in all, I found this to be an enjoyable romance. I am sure that I will be reading the final book in the trilogy as soon as it becomes available.

Originally reviewed for Bodice Rippers, Femme Fatales and Fantasy.

There is just something special about Jude Deveraux, she writes these sweeping sagas full of grand gestures and forever love. Full of normal people discovering a love beyond belief. Of discovering who they are and where they truly came from. She has this writing style that is hard to describe and yet totally and completely her own. I know I could pick up a book with no cover, title or author information and after just a few pages recognize it as Ms. Deveraux's work. It's a gift to us all! And For All Time proves that once again, Ms Deveraux is a treasure.

For All Time is Book two in her Nantucket Brides Trilogy (another branch in the Montgomery/Taggert series). While we don't see too much of the other Montgomerys and Taggerts we have grown to love we do see some of them AND their family dynamics, history and legends remain strong.

Toby Wyndam has escaped an overbearing mother who constantly harps on her. Who expects her to marry and marry well. After years of verbal abuse she has finally found a place to call home. Amongst the eclectic individuals that call Nantucket home. Best friends with one of "The" Kingsleys of Nantucket she is sure in who she is. And yet somehow she has been roped in to coordinating the wedding of Alix Mardsen and Jared Kingsley. She's having fun but that cute Montgomery cousin of his keeps staring at her.

Graydon Montgomery, Heir to the throne of Lanconia (The Princess, The Maiden) has covered for his brother their entire lives. It's second nature to him and since they are identical twins it always works. Except Toby Wyndam can tell them apart. Family legend states that the one who can tell you apart is the one destined to be your true love. The Taggerts and Montgomerys are obsessive about this.. to the point of sometimes not even acknowledging a spouse who can't tell them apart.. Graydon is astounded, he is promised to be married to a member of Lanconian aristocracy.. this American woman can mean nothing to him. And yet he can't look away, he can't just turn away he has to get to know her. Calling in his markers with his brother, Graydon manages to get one week.. One week to discover just who this woman is but he knows even then he will have to walk away.

In typical Deveraux fashion there is so much more to this story than just Prince meets commoner. The first week these two spend together is a joy of getting to know each other but when real life makes an odd appearance the two discover that the depth of their feelings goes way beyond friendship and when the mysteries of Nantucket make themselves known, Toby and Graydon discover that theirs has been a doomed love for a very long time.

The choices these two have to make can be heartbreaking and yet each discovers a true love that allows for the "right" choice over and over again. Until they have to decide, is this really the "right" choice? An interesting set of circumstances to be sure.

Once again we are entertained with some truly enjoyable secondary characters and many people who are just not who we think they are. And of course, both Graydon and Toby have to learn that sometimes (almost always) things are not what we think they are.

Ms Deveraux's work always and I mean always makes me sigh...

Another wonderful story!! Another must read.

Frankly, I am not sure just how to grade this book. I am not sure I liked it. I have read many of the other books the author has written and have liked most, not all, of them. I am not sure what exactly I did not like about this book. Suffice it to say, it will never be one of my favorites. Graydon is immediately stricken with Toby when he spies her at a wedding. When they meet for the first time, he is even more attracted to her, and, the reader learns, she is finding him equally attractive. The biggest obstacle they face is the fact that he is the Crown Prince of Laconia, destined to become its king, and betrothed to a young woman there, who hails from a well-situated family who has given and done much for the country. In addition, Toby is determined not to fall head over heels over any man and prefers she and Graydon remain friends during his extended stay on Nantucket. The book paints a very unrealistic picture of a Crown Prince today, from a small but vitally important country who provides the US with some exotic mineral the country desperately needs. This background came across as very unrealistic and not well thought out to me. As the story progresses, there are numerous instances where Toby alone, or along with Graydon, experiences what may be time travel to another era, but may really only be dreams. The way the author integrates these episodes into the rest of the story left me wondering, more often than not, when the event was really taking place, how the event could have happened or what era the book was supposed to be in at that moment. While on Nantucket, Toby’s twin fills in for him in Laconia, and there are some events as well as the way they handle them which were far beyond what I would see as realistic. I have read many other books by this author, and I enjoyed reading most of them and loved them. However, this book jut did not do it for me. I found the story a bit confusing at times. The time frames in the plot, as I said were not done as well as they could have. I also did not like or enjoy many of the characters who came and went throughout the story. The first half of the story went much more smoothly than the latter half, and that may have been because most of the paranormal events/instances happen in the second half. Before reading the book, I had not read the first book in the series, and that may have been part of my problem, though I sincerely found the book okay as a stand-alone book and did not need the first book to understand the story. The book will appeal to the author’s readers and those who enjoy romance without being concerned that the book is unrealistic and often defies common sense and logic. I received this from NetGalley to read and review.

Reading a Jude Devereax is like going home for me. This was what I was looking for. Sweet, a group of people who all relate, some light angst, and that coming home feeling I get from reading about the Montgomerys. Though, one little side note made me really curious. A Montgomery cousin conceived in the 16th century. I'd love his story.

For All Time: A Nantucket Brides Novel (Nantucket Brides Trilogy)
By Jude Deveraux
Ballantine
July 2014

The Nantucket Brides ~ Book Two

HRR Prince Graydon Montgomery of Lantonia slipped away from his duties to be a groomsman at the wedding of his cousin, Jared Montgomery Kingsley to Alixandra Madsen, on Nantucket Island. Graydon’s identical twin brother, Rory, is a playboy and has been on the Island for a few days. Toby Wyndam is the bridesmaid paired with Graydon, and the man cannot take his eyes off of her. When she tells him she can tell the difference between Gray and Rory, the man is flummoxed as no one outside of a very few family members can do that. The charming prince talks Rory into taking his place in Lantonia for a few days so that he can spend some time getting to know Toby. Gray just wants a week before he will have to return to his duties, and later on to announce his engagement to Lady Danna Hexonbath.

Toby’s best friend and roommate, Lexie, is in France doing a personal favor for her employer, Roger Plymouth. Since there are no rental vacancies on the Island due to all the wedding guests plus the summer tourists, Toby agrees to rent Gray her empty bedroom. An unforeseen event in Lantonia forces Graydon to extend his “vacation and a man and woman, Daire and Lorcan, are sent to protect him; Gray has asked them to keep a low profile since he is supposed to be Rory.

Toby is drawn to the centuries old mansion that Graydon’s relatives are intending to purchase. Normally it is closed up, but today in a pouring rain the front door is open. Lexie takes refuge inside the house, and wanders upstairs and falls asleep. She is awakened to vivid and unbelievable dreams. Friends are all in costumes and her mother is present. Lexie’s mother Victoria tells Toby that she is at a party in Captain Caleb’s new house – a man who has been dead for over two hundred years. The house’s name is Beyond Time. A lot of the mansion’s history is relived over the next few weeks, and Toby/Tabby and Graydon/Garrett, are a big part of it.

FOR ALL TIMES is the best of yesterday and today as only Jude Deveraux can narrate. Outlandish, quirky, and magnificent characters abound in this highly entertaining story. The ill-fated romance of the protagonists is beautifully rendered and the story threads are delightfully accomplished leaving the reader anxiously awaiting the next installment of the Nantucket Brides.

This was an ARC from Netgalley

I truly love Jude Deveraux. I don't think that anyone can tackle time-travel and reincarnation stories quite the way she does. The book started a little slow, but I'm so thrilled that I stuck with it. I really loved both H/h and was rooting for them through the whole story - which proved to make it impossible to put the book down.

Toby is a florist from 9-5, but she moonlights as an unofficial wedding planner. During one of these weddings she meets Graydon and his twin brother, Rory, who are Lanconian royalty. Graydon is immediately smitten with Toby who can miraculously tell the brothers apart. As a result, Graydon is intrigued by Toby. So, he decides to take a week-long vacation to get closer to her. The problem is that Graydon via an arranged marriage is promised to someone else who so happens to be the very someone that his brother is in love with. How can Graydon and Toby possibly be together?!?! Well, throw in a few reincarnation mishaps and you've got an amazing love story! I truly enjoyed it!

I have such a hard time with Deveraux's time traveling books. They are just not as good as her other books. And this one was no different.
Graydon is in town to watch his cousin get married. At least, that's why he's supposed to be in town. As the heir apparent to the Lanconian throne, he is most certainly not supposed to be ogling bridesmaid Toby. And yet... there's a draw. One more powerful than his mother's disapproval and even overriding his good sense to remember that he's supposed to be engaged. But he and Toby have a history. A long history. One that they're willing to go back time to make sure that at least one version of themselves can end in true love...

I liked both Toby and Graydon and they did seem well matched throughout the story. Romantic angst, time traveling through dreams and a lovely surprise ending for Toby and Graydon.

If you like a weak female lead character, insipid male lead character, time travel, and a silly plot line...you will enjoy this book. I don't and I didn't!

the good: narrator

the bad: everything else is awful.

the side story that is time-travel is boring beyond belief. the rest of the book was worse. a hot mess of nonsensical claptrap.

This book (after reading book one--True Love) was wonderful but I have to say at first I thought,"This is not so good as the first book in this series" BUT very soon got caught up and loved it.

I LOVE TIME TRAVEL and those sections were fascinating to me. If you're destined to be with each other, regardless of centuries apart, love will always find a way...It was a bit confusing how the time travel happened but I like that they were able to correct the mistake. More and more scientists are using math and saying that just maybe time travel is possible! However--when I read a book (or view a movie) I suspend all disbelief--till it's over.

This series is full of characters I'd love to know and Toby is a special girl that Graydon was lucky to get. As to him being a Ken doll, he and the story explained why he couldn't show his real emotions however I do believe that in real life no man would have been so "resistant" to Toby's charms!
Ms.Deveraux writes books full of every emotion but mostly joy and that there is always hope for people in love! I could smell the sea and can picture Nantucket perfectly with these books. I do believe that it would be nice to have a hero that isn't a multi-millionaire just once! Just a little bit rich would be nice for once!

I really loved seeing the Montgomerys again . MY only Big Question now is--when does the third of this trilogy come out?
