The second volume and boy this was good! I really had fun reading this one. Seeing stuff from Rin's POV, seeing Archer (and I know what, or who, he is and I cannot wait for that to come out, YAS), see how Rin summoned Archer. But also see Saber and Emiya try to figure out how things work, set plans for how to get on in this war (Emiya just wants to protect people and not kill everyone which is kind of dumb but also very awesome and I respect that). I loved finding out more about summons, magic, and the servants. Cannot wait for Saber to tell her real name to Emiya. There are some great battles unfolding and that ending, yas, I am hyped. Cannot wait to see that battle!
While the opening moments of this volume serve to show what happens after the cliffhanger of the first one, the first real chunk of this volume is backtracking to the day before, first from the POV of Rin and Archer, as well as interspersing a present discussion between Shirou and Saber with Shirou's day before. The latter chunk also gives us an introduction to Sakura and Fuji-nee, and shows us the start of the fight between Rin and Shirou before the high school comes under attack. There's a lot more dense lore explanation in this one. Again, it's not bad and for what it was at the time of its release, I feel it was fairly accessible to a lot of people who only were able to access the manga. That aside, I do feel like some things could have been handled better and there were plenty of choices here that had me raising a brow.
I haven’t read the manga series before. I haven’t played the visual novel either. Most of my experience with this series comes from the the ufotable anime series. I know a lot of people hate on the original adaptations of this story, but I am so charmed by the story, I just can’t hate it. These characters are ones I love. This story is one I cherish. So far the difference in adaptation is just helping to keep it fresh and entertaining for someone who’s seen the anime 500 times. Love it.
So far, this series isn't bad. It's not as engaging as Lunar Legend Tsukihime, but it's by no means a bad read, either. Like Tsukihime, it's based on a Type-Moon visual novel, but while I've read Tsukihime's visual novel, I cannot say the same for Fate/stay night, so I don't know how different the manga is from its source. Not that this makes a whole lot of difference, really, but perhaps I'd be a bit more interested in it. Still, Type-Moon fans should give this a try.
Wow, the history revealed so far about the Holy Grail War is rather heartbreaking and depressing, especially after reading about Rin Tosaka's family history. I'm kinda sadface the Internet has already spoiled me for whom Saber is a reincarnation of - but I can't wait to see Emiya find out for himself. Also, Emiya is positively swimming in cute girls. Damn him! I am also excited to see more of Saber. She's lovely! And so awesome!
tosaka is dynamic. she is strong, she is smart and never breaks a promise ( she never goes back on her word.) page 149 "didnt i tell you the next time we meet were enemies.
just because your not going for the same goal doesnt mean your not enemies.
dont use reading strategy.
i loved the book but it left me at a cliff hanger.
