E se...

Rate this book

“You’re in my veins, and I just want to be in yours.”

As atitudes e ações dela não me agradaram.

This story had TREMENDOUS potential - but something didn't work for me. 💙
The writing was flat, the characters annoyed me, their actions were dumb - and the whole reason why they couldn't be together all these years, was the STUPIDEST REASON I have ever read in "Second Chance" romance books!!!
I must add that the cover is absolutely beautiful and the name of the book fits the plot perfectly. 💙

Bummer... or as we say in Hebrew when we don't like something: ifff! ("איף") LOL 😂😂😂

You know, it always breaks my heart a little when I can tell a book and it’s unfortunate characters have potential but sadly get deprived of that potential through unoriginality, lack of engaging characterization, and ridiculous cliches. I could almost hear these poor characters begging the reader not to buy into all the crap shoveled at them or the stupid decisions placed upon their shoulders.

If could have been a great second chance at romance story IF only the mediocre and stereotypical storytelling hadn't gotten in the way. If only!

I originally wrote this review when I decided to give up and DNF at 50%. I came back and finished. YAY ME....NOT

Lincoln was a moody asshole. He might have had a horrible childhood, but the way he treated Emerson was disgusting. He was a whore. And she excused him. Every time. There was nothing redeemable about him.

A lot of reviewers didn't like that she cheated on her boyfriend with Lincoln, but they weren't that serious and they were 18. Jeez, if you're going to make mistakes, that's the time to do them. When you're too young to know what you're doing. So, I had no problem with it. Other reviewers said she cheated later on, but she didn't. She came to her friends wedding with her boyfriend and then broke up with him before anything happened with Lincoln.

To me, this was not a love story. It was toxic. Lincoln did too many hurtful things for me to have forgiven him.

My advice...Don't pay for this book. It was on Kindle Unlimited or I'd have been mad.

The only reason I came back and finished the story was to see if Emerson ended up with the douche. Still not impressed. She's a total doormat. Disgusting. Why am I still reading this crap? I'll tell you why. I want her to kick him to the curb, but I know she won't. Dumb girl.

Safety: Emerson lost her virginity to her new boyfriend the summer before she started college. They went away to different schools and she met Lincoln. She didn't hop in his bed and intended to break up with her boyfriend in person when she saw him. Yes, she should have broken up before she slept with Lincoln, but there were extenuating circumstance. If the reason you're not reading this book because of cheating then I hope that helps.

Lincoln was a flat out whore. He paraded girls in front of Emerson all the time. He had a well earned reputation on campus. I actually hurt for Emerson because she was in love with him. I would never have unprotected sex with him without at least three STD test confirmations that he was clean. I take that back... I'd sooner sleep with a wet dog.

The reviewers who say how much they love Lincoln and excuse his behavior like it's nothing and then vilify Emerson for CHEATING make me mad. I should be collecting woman cards.

Genre: NA Contemporary Romance
Type: Standalone
POV: First Person - Female
Rating:

When Lincoln Daniels and Emerson Shaw first met, the attraction was irrefutable. He was the notorious bad boy, while she was the sheltered princess. They tried to fight against it but it only brought them misery. But being together didn’t turn out to be any easier.

“I’m the kind of guy who brings darkness into your world as I destroy it. And you.”

This book had me at the hypnotic cover. It was dark and depressing which matched the blurb. However, the actual story was much lighter than I expected.

“I should have never dragged you into my world, Em.”
“You didn’t drag me. I stepped willingly into it, because I wanted to.”

Lincoln was sexy and I like his background story, while Emerson could use more character development. I enjoyed the angst but my biggest issue with the story is that the main characters lacked connection. There were more telling than showing when it comes to their all consuming love. It needed more intensity for it to be believable. I also thought their separation was too short to have an impact.

“Just let me go.” My voice is flat.
Fury flashes in his eyes. “I can’t. I tried.”

If is a story of taking chances. It would appeal to readers who enjoy angsty NA Romance.

Emerson Shaw is from an affluent family yet she’s always rebelled against the superficiality surrounding her. In beginning college, she is finally away family pressure yet still remains in her safety zone until meeting a boy that instantly sparks a connection.

“Something inside me wants to tell him that he’s full of shit. Even though I don’t know him, I sense that there is more to him than this bad-boy persona he’s trying to give off.”

By earning a baseball scholarship, Lincoln Daniels is on the right path after some precarious teen years. With a natural charisma and good looks, women are drawn to Lincoln but shields his past from most and remains unattached. However, Emerson seems to make him wonder if it could all be different.

“I don’t know what I did to deserve your placement in my path, but I am so fucking grateful, Em. You’re exactly what I need.”

Told from Emerson’s point of view, this plot landscape has quite a bit of angst. The relationship between Emerson and Lincoln begins their freshman year, and from the start, it is rocky as each deals with their feelings and insecurities. While they feel a strong connection to each other and want more, certain decisions force them apart.

“I thought I was going to destroy you. It turns out, you’re going to ruin me.”

In starting this book, I expected to feel a load of strong emotions based on the premise, but I did not feel as connected to Emerson or like how she made certain decisions. Part of it was the telling the story rather than letting it develop as it happens. As for Lincoln, his character was stronger and it was easier to relate to him, yet I still wanted to delve more into his past and what drives him.

If is a new adult romance about taking chances and acknowledging one’s emotional fears. This book would appeal to those who want romance, some drama and angst in a college setting.

*Note: I absolutely love the cover of this book.

*An ARC was provided in exchange for an honest review.*

Quick and predictable read about a tattooed bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks (but he drives a Range Rover he was gifted by his small New England uni because that is allowed by NCAA rules to play baseball but isn't good enough for the majors)who falls in love with a beautiful trust fund baby with a magnetic and electric vagina. Bad boy's steely pole is of course immediately attracted.

OK, with that snarky paragraph, you would think I would have disliked this, but I didn't. I have a huge soft spot and liking for the tropey (my new not really a word) bad boy tamed and the deeply in love, but can't be together big sacrifice rerun. Just another one of my flaws, flaw number 3,472 actually.

Quick and cute.

It was okay story to read, but left me with a feeling something was missing. I couldn't connect with story completely- to dig into it 100%. Their relationship felt a little disconnected, not beliveable - their behavior seemed too abrupt.
Lincoln's dark side was mentioned so many times, but at the end I didn't get it - his past wasn't so horibble as it was indicated all the time during the story. It was exaggeration without cause.

“I was wrong.” He says.
“About what?” I pant, staring at him.
“I thought I was going to destroy you. It turns out, you’re going to ruin me.”

‘If’ was one of our most anticipated releases this year. We’ve stalked this author for months, eagerly awaiting news of its release. That cover, and the gripping synopsis promised an angsty and gut-wrenching story, and one we were desperate and thrilled to finally it be able to read this week.
We can’t begin to say how disappointed we are to reveal that sadly; Lincoln and Emerson’s love story didn’t completely work for us, and we’ll tell you why.

To connect to a story, we need to connect with the characters, to believe in their love – even during, and very importantly, through times of separation. It’s imperative for us to feel that connection so intently, that we believe in their love with every fibre of our being.

Whilst we did feel the physical basal need between Lincoln and Emerson, the certainly had sexual chemistry, but unfortunately for us, that’s as far as any connection went. The consequence of that being that eventually, through lack of emotional connection, the physical side of their relationship became repetitive and drawn out. We needed more. We needed to be present in the moment, instead of being told after the event through repeated time jumps and author narrative.

“What if I break your heart?” he asks quietly.
‘There are no ifs.
Lincoln Daniels will break my heart.
And I am going to let him.’

We’re readers who love to experience the story, we’re ‘show, not tell’ readers and on that account, If, the love story left us wanting.

We did like Lincoln and Emerson, and there were fleeting moments when we became immersed in their love story, but the time spent apart, the various relationships outside of being a couple and the lack of interaction overshadowed their connection a few too many times.

It’s not enough to tell us a character is broken, we must feel it in our hearts, not just read it with our eyes, otherwise, it becomes just words, not emotion.

“I’m the kind of guy who brings darkness into your world as I destroy it.”

Every reader experiences a story in their own personal way, a story may resonate with one reader, yet miss the mark with another. We know some readers will love this story, however, it wasn’t a winner for us, and you’ll never know how much it pains us to say those words.

THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF 2018!!!

"Do you love him, Em?"
"Yes"
"Like you love me?"
"No."

"You're in my veins, and I just want to be in yours."

I had a love hate relationship with this book while reading it, loved some parts, hated some parts. This is a new to me author, I hadn’t even heard her name before this, but I picked it up when someone recommended it as if you liked (insert book), then you’ll like this one. That cover is freaking gorgeous, so what the heck, I went for it. I think what frustrates me the more is that I really liked the writing, and the story had so much potential, it could’ve been brilliant.

On the plus side, this was a quick read and it did kept me interested enough to basically read it in one sitting. I was dying to know where this was going.

On the minus size, the heroine was weak AF, she was ridiculous, annoying and being in her POV was frustrating to say the least. She also didn’t seem to be able to function without a boyfriend even though she said she loooved the hero so much, bleh. The reasons that kept them apart were silly and at times hard to understand. The epilogue was too short and offered little insight into anything. But the pacing and the way the book was structured was probably my biggest issue. The book was rushed where it shouldn’t and lagged at the wrong parts. You think it will alternate between present and past but it starts in the present and then it’s one huge flashback until the end. On top of that, there’s these time jumps without rhyme or reason, so the leads are apart way longer than they are together and when they finally meet back in the present (which at first makes it seem like it’s years but it’s actually only a year) then they basically just reunited and the END. See? How frustrating, it could’ve been so much better!

Anyway, I also need to say that this one is triggers galore, so if you hate cheating and characters that sleep with others while apart (which is most of the book), and silly drama, then this is not for you. I’m more disappointed than anything cause I was expecting angst, hurt and a hidden gem, and I just got a forgettable, typical, college NA book.

Oh my word. THIS BOOK!
Lincoln and Emerson are both complex characters and when their worlds collide things aren’t ever the same again for either of them. My heart aches so much while reading their story and not always in a good way; they both made some decisions that would go on to cause major hurt, not only for themselves but also those around them. It really was an emotional ride.

Wow, I just devoured this book! I was up until 4 am reading and woke up at 8 am to finish. I haven’t done that with a book in awhile! I’ve been waiting for this book for months and it did not disappoint.
This kind of love story is my favorite. It’s an all consuming, protective, deep connection that time can never sever no matter how many hurdles are in the way. True, unconditional love that’s worth sacrifice and time. I loved Emerson and Lincoln’s story so much and it was worth the wait. It had just the right amount of angst. The cover truly matches the beauty inside. I definitely recommend this one!

4-4.5 ⭐'s

“I was so worried about protecting your heart, I didn’t realize mine was in danger.”

This book gave off a real Beautiful Disaster vibe to me but not quite as crazy and definitely not as angsty.

Lincoln and Emerson meet in college and are instantly drawn to each other. He's the bad boy but she can't stay away. He doesn't want to hurt her and he just doesn't do "love".

She can only take so much of the push and pull so when an internship comes up in London, she takes off having no idea how much it hurts him.

Fast forward two years and she's back for her senior year of college and their draw is just as intense as ever. This time they decide to be friends with benefits and we all know how those turn out.

So the big "IF" basically means if they're both strong enough to take the leap and see if something works out between them. There was a bit of a twist towards the end but I liked how everything worked out.

I like angst and I even can appreciate a good cheating storyline... but there's gotta be some meat on those bones. There's nothing that sets this book apart from every other NA college romance. Nothing, unfortunately. We don't even really get to know these characters well at all before they're lusting after each other. I don't know. There was just a lot missing on these pages starting with some good quality character development. I never got a good feel for them as individuals so I never really bought into the "unrelenting attraction" the author was trying to sell. It was just meh. I like the author's writing but I hope future work is a bit more fleshed out.

That’s how I feel after reading this awesomeness! I had tiny little butterflies floating in my stomach through this whole experience. I have never read a book from this author nor had I ever heard of her. I did however come across the book cover and fell in love right away! The cover is dark, sexy and seductive and I wanted to know what it was about. I loved this story! The ups and downs were so frustrating but that’s my favourite part. It kept me engaged and wanting more. My paperbacks in the mail! 👌💞

Not going to lie, I definitely picked this book on my kindle because of the cover. It seemed pretty cool and I wanted to know what the book would hold for my eyes.

If is a second chance at romance kind of book. In it, you will meet Lincoln and Emerson. They met while in college and kind of had a roller coaster kind of romance. They friends with benefits that constantly hurt one another. Everything was kind of based on what if. They fell for each other pretty quickly but it was a bit frustrating to deal with some of their highs and lows.

Lincoln had a past and was deemed a bad guy. He always told Em that he would ruin or break her. Eventually he did.. but she did the same to him. Em kind of dove into this guy while in a relationship with another. It doesn't help that the guy she was dating was a huge asshole with a silver spoon shoved up his asshole. I liked them together but I don't see how Lincoln's past was so horrible? We barely got a glimpse of it and he seemed pretty tame. Then there's Em and her douche parents - god were they so freaking awful.

Throughout the book these two would eventually find comfort in one another. It took them a while to admit that they needed to be together. They did try a couple of times to be a couple but something always got in the way. Mostly her parents or their lack of communication at times but it was a pretty interesting read. I devoured the book and I'm definitely liking the idea of reading another book by this author.

Overall, I enjoyed this random book and found a new author to fall in love with.

Lincon is just mmmmm delish and Emerson is just what this troubled boy needs to realize that the IFs are beautiful.. They both needed each other just as much as the stars need the sky..
Thank you so much for one stunningly beautiful book and remarkable reading experience!

I'm so lost for words! This book literally had me captivated, swooning, broke me, healed me, and left me a crumbling mess! So many emotions so empowering. This is my first book by this author and sure as heck won't be my last!

This is a guy wrenching story about two broken people Em and Lincoln. They both run into many obstacles when it comes to their attraction. Can they find their way, or are they doomed by destruction?

I had a love hate relationship with this book. I didn’t really understand why these two wouldn’t commit. I felt their reasons were silly. Emerson...she sure was quick to get into another relationship. It’s like she couldn’t be by herself at all. So it didn’t make sense to me that she was so heart broken and crying all the time in her thoughts but with somebody else with in a week after moving. So the ending was just meh for me because she kind of ticked me off. lol

Ok so first and foremost before we get into the review, can we admire this amazing cover. It’s what instantly had me wanting to read this book. That and the title had me thinking ok I’m going to be in for some angst, I can feel it in my angst addicted soul. You see I didn’t read the blurb, because well I normally don’t, so I’ve gone into this completely blind as per usual. It’s how I prefer to read.

So first things first, that initial meeting between Emerson and Lincoln just had me. I could feel that “pull” coming off the pages. There was just something about these two where I knew I would be in for some form of emotional torture and I buckled up and prepared myself for the ride.

And what a ride that was, this story is riddled with angst. Back and forth, back and forth and with each drop from the what seems like the top of the emotional rollercoaster that these two were on my emotions got hit right in the gut.

Yes I’ll admit these two frustrated the hell out of me, but I live for the angst and so I actually expect to be frustrated. I love second chance romances and when you throw in the angst I’m in reader heaven.

Loved everything about this book. The only thing I wished this had was Lincoln’s point of view but even without it this book will hit you in the gut and make you cheer for that once in a lifetime love.

Usually it takes me no time to read books. I’m engaged in the story. I’m feeling it. I’m loving it. Especially all of Randi’s books.
This time around it took me three solid days to get this book done. And it’s definitely not because I didn’t like it. Notice I gave it 5 stars.
This book was too much for my heart. I felt like my heart was being ripped out of my chest. I felt too much for Emerson and Lincoln. The crap they go through is amazing. How Lincoln is drowning in sorrow, regret and self pity while em’s parents are the bane of her existence. Feeling like she doesn’t belong with them.
In each other they find a perfect match. They fit so perfectly. So why do they keep on going their separate ways to ultimately come back together?
They just weren’t in a good place to be able to fully be with each other but it works out. I really had my doubts if they were going to ever reconcile.
They have this special connection that keeps bringing them back together and when they are together it’s so beautiful it hurts. They are hurting.
I loved every word of this book. Every pull of my heart strings. Just everything. 10 stars wouldn’t even be enough.

4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2 Stars! I absolutely adored this book! College and second chance Romance. Emerson and Lincoln had such great chemistry. I love the flow of their story, there was no over the top situations and unnecessary dramas. This book was even keel. There was a lot of angst, but it was all warranted and needed for the journey these two had to go through.

I also loved the fact that this story was told primarily from the heroine’s POV, it felt more authentic and tru to the story and the characters feelings were still obvious. This book was addictive and I couldn’t put it down.

I wanted more in the epilogue. I would definitely recommend.

I don’t know if there is a better word for this book. The story that is told is heartbreaking and intoxicating. It takes your heart to the highest highs and the lowest lows. It will break you down and build you back up within a page. Its fun and witty and REAL! I LOVED this book so much I think I’ll read it a few times. 😍
