Fix It Yourself is the first David Leadbetter book I’ve read, and now I’m interested in checking out more of his books. To say I read the book is a bit misleading. This isn’t necessarily a book that you read cover to cover. You could, but as Leadbetter warns in his Introduction, if you try to fix more than one fault at a time, he’ll have to recommend a good mental health book, as well. He says to keep it simple, and that’s exactly what this book does. It’s broken down into sections to help you better identify what you need to work on. Then it gives concise descriptions of specific faults with helpful, to-the-point fixes and a simple Swing Thought.

I once read a book about how to keep squirrels off your bird feeders. It was full of tips and tricks. The final chapter then said that no matter what you do, squirrels are smart and will probably still find a way to get to the bird seed. Rather than hate the squirrels, learn to accept them and you’ll be happier. I think about this often. How can I shift my perspective to enjoy what’s frustrating me. Leadbetter has clearly experienced his fair share of frustrated golfers, because his final chapter is about fixing your mental approach - from identifying whether your goal is to have fun to reminding you that it’s not how you make your living so why get mad at poor performance to remembering there is always tomorrow (or the next hole).

As a golfer who can no longer call herself a beginner but still has a lot to learn, this book will hold a spot on my shelf for years to come. Because as most golfers know, once you fix one thing in your game, something else changes. I’ll come back to this book again and again for advice and inspiration.

I received an ARC of this excellent instructional guide for golfers through NetGalley.
This is not the kind of book you read from cover to cover. I started doing that, but the best way to use this guide is to hone in on one of the faults Leadbetter covers and focus on every word to fix the fault.
A lot of golfers feel the need to take a lesson from a teaching professional whenever their game goes sour. An option provided by this book is to "fix it yourself." Identify what is going wrong and follow what Leadbetter says about the right way to deal with the issue at hand.
Leadbetter uses clear language and photos to effectively communicate to the reader what he is trying to get across. The fixes are all labelled and organized well, so it is easy to find the section in the book that deals with the fault in your game that you are trying to fix.
An excellent book. One that has helped me already and one I can go back to the next time things go wrong.

Revisiting a master teacher/Good to see him again

An excellent review of the timeless Leadbetter full swing basics that I learned during the Faldo era long ago ...... his short game and putting instructions are a revelation -- maybe I didn't pay attention the first time around, but I will this time.

Nice format of issues and fixes, Not everyone should need everything in this book but he covers all aspects of golf, Setup, stance, grip, driving, iron play, chipping, and putting... If you have an issue take a look at his fix and see if that helps. It's a good book for a beginner who is playing but needs to fix many things.
