My family has always had problems, so I downloaded Ancestral Shadows by Essie Woodard. The book explains how trauma is passed down through DNA. It affects the body's cells, emphasizing the importance of therapy, mindfulness, and community support in breaking cycles of anxiety, depression, and fear. It combines scientific understanding with cultural and historical insights, providing theoretical knowledge and practical strategies for healing. Through personal stories and scientific research, Essie offers a roadmap to recognizing and overcoming intergenerational trauma, promoting resilience, and the ability to reshape personal narratives for future generations. This insightful and accessible guide is essential for anyone dealing with family trauma, offering hope and empowerment to rewrite their family legacies.
The author has a brilliant skill of writing, her inner tapestry that has so much creativity, and wisdom. The only downside being there are no case examples of how to work through it. It is a theoretical understanding but still very very good.
I found this book very informative and wondered how these principles could be applied to heal pre-birth trauma like adoption trauma. It is a book I will reference again and again. Certainly worth a read.
