I remember when I read this series as a Young Girl I was completely fascinated with the idea of the WITCH's predecessors and that there were basically 5 grown up women in the world who used to be the WITCH when they were younger. In this volume we get to know the former Guardian of the Heart of Kandrakar - Nerissa. Nerissa was an interesting villain (and one of the better ones in the series) because the fact that power made her crazy and she turned bitter is just fucking believable.

We also get introduced to Eric - who will become Hay-Lin's love interest - and I really like him. He is humble and cute and their relationship is also quite believable.

I forgot much about the big Showdown at the end of this (basically Luba betraying Kandrakar and handing Caleb over to Nerissa) but I loved the Luba redemption arc and that she sacrificed herself to lock Nerissa up. Brave woman!

SPOILER ALERT!

So this is volume 22 with the W.I.T.C.H. against Nerissa. This is the first volume I got when I joined the magazine, so I was / I am a little confused because I don't get all the references to previous volumes.
Though I really like where this is going, so I'll defenitely read on to the next volumes!
I felt bad for Hay Lin when she lost her granny again, but I was glad she returned.
