Fool Me Once #3

Shame on Him

Rate this book
For Lorelei Warner, being perfect isn’t everything it’s cracked up to be. She did what her straitlaced parents wanted: became a lawyer, married her college boyfriend. But since her husband ran off with another man and her career became a nonstop bore-fest, Lorelei has turned to her best friends and Fool Me Once Investigations to find fulfillment and adventure.

When a routine subpoena-delivery turns up a dead body, Lorelei knows that solving the murder is exactly what she needs to boost her confidence…until private investigator Dallas Osborne walks in and takes over the case. Dallas has always rubbed Lorelei the wrong way. It’s aggravating enough that he’s a pompous ass, but he’s also entirely too good-looking.

If she wants to catch the killer, Lorelei will need to loosen up and defy her parents—not to mention the law. And she’ll need to partner with Dallas, working closer (much closer) to the sexy investigator than she ever expected.

Join the feisty Fool Me Once ladies for another fun-loving romp from bestselling author Tara Sivec.

Book 1: Shame on You_Main characters: Kennedy O’Brien & Griffin Crawford
Book 2: Shame on Me_Main characters: Paige McCarty &Matt Russo
Book 3: Shame on Him_Main characters: Lorelei Warner & Dallas Osborne

Lorelei is an attorney. She has decided that she does not need men anymore after her husband cheated. And this is when she realized that her husband is not just a cheater, but he is also gay.

Lorelei together with her two best friends Kennedy and Paige, they have started a new investigation office called me “Fool Me Once”. This is something Lorelei really enjoys. She prefers chasing bad guys instead on spending her boring days in the court. Moreover the wishes of her parents suffocate her. She just wants to be free.
Dallas is the owner of another investigation office and many times works with police. And he is a kind of Neanderthal, when it comes to women. Recently he has also started helping “Fool Me Once” investigations.

From the beginning Lorelei and Dallas look like they hate each other and Dallas continuously rubs Lorelei the wrong way. When Lorelei discovers a dead body, Dallas is there to take the case from her and this makes her mad. Unfortunately Lorelei keeps discovering dead people while she cannot avoid killers and Dallas offers the only help.

Pretty soon the hate will turn to love and the enemies will be lovers. In this book, the parents are also stealing the show.

The funny bits of the book involves a disastrous dinner with the parents, a scratching and biting fluffy cat, a jealous girlfriend (No, not Dallas’. There is no other woman drama) and an aura which turns pink from grey (someone is in love).

I really liked this book, but also overall this is a great refressing, funny series.
These three books are the first that I have read by Tara Sivec and I will definitely read more.

Shame on Him is the third and final installment of the Fool Me Once series following 3 fantastically fun heroines. This book centers around Lorelei Warner (the attorney) who seems a little uptight, and Dallas Osbourne (another PI) who you’ve loved to hate in the other books!

Lorelei has always been the perfect one. Perfect daughter, perfect attorney- but being perfect isn’t working for her anymore. Now, she wants to do what she wants. Prove she can be a successful PI. Dallas is already that. And has been a successful PI/ex cop for years. When Lorelei and Dallas both end up trying to catch the same killer, heads will butt and sparks will fly!

I love a good friends to lovers stories, but a good enemies to lovers story is so much more fun! Dallas and Lorelei hate each other to begin with, but that makes for more passion between them. I loved their back and forth banter and how they brought the best out in each other.

Fool Me Once is one of Sivec’s series I would recommend if you’re looking for a fun, short series full of love, friendship, action and laughs. I’ve really enjoyed these books and I’m going to miss these gals and their crazy escapades.

*Once again, I want to note that I listened to this on audible and the narrator was really great. Nothing worse than having a crap narrator when listening to a good book! She channeled Lorelei perfectly x

“Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice . . . I don’t fucking think so.”

If looks could kill, Dallas would be dead ten times over, lol! Lorelei and Dallas has had a love hate relationship, imagine if you will kindergartner where the boy is mean to the girl but it’s really because he likes her… yup, that pretty much describes these two on a much larger scale. Lorelei is trying to do what it takes to break away from the mold that her parents put her in, and letting loose and being free has some serious perks; the major one being Dallas Osborne.

This was another fun one, although Lorelei was my least fav of the three, she was a little bit more ice queen that the rest. Regardless it was a fun way to end the series.

I've had so much fun reading Tara Sivec's Fool Me Once series. The three ladies who make up the Fool Me Once Investigations have been a hoot to follow. Lorelei is the attorney of the group and the third book is her story.

Poor Lorelei. She and her two best friends started a company together after each of their marriages ended. Lorelei's ex actually came out as being gay and ran off with another man. Kennedy and Paige each have already found their second chances at love leaving Lorelei behind.

Lorelei was a great attorney, but she really wants to do investigative work because it makes her happy. As she tries to deliver a subpoena she finds herself discovering a murder victim instead. This is the perfect opportunity for her to start the work that she really wants to do, investigative work.

Unfortunately, Dallas ends up working the case too. He's a former cop turned private investigator. Lorelei dislikes Dallas and Dallas dislikes Lorelei. But she can't help but oogle him when he's around which only irritates her more. Nothing like wanting to jump the bones of the guy you hate. Eventually, they agree to work together to try to dove the murder. I loved how Dallas took up for Lorelei when they were at dinner with her parents and soon their hate turned into excitement and passion. They were great together!

I love the hate turn love relationships and that is definitely how Dallas and Lorelei's relationship was. This was another quick, fun and exciting installment to the Fool Me Once series. All three books were fast reads that kept me entertained. For all Tara Sivec fans, these books are ones you don't want to miss.

Cute, funny, and a little silly, just like the other two in the series. A bit rushed and too short for my taste, but a fun series to read!

I knew from the second book that these were going to happen, so it was just a matter of finishing the other one to jump right into this one. I loved their whole realtionship. And the moment that she steps out of her parent's house and Drew... well... yeah, that moment.
I fell in love. I really want a man like that in my life.

Fun, quick listen on audiobook. This had the silly humor I enjoy and had me laughing out loud in quite a few places. Great side characters that added to the fun. Narrator did a really good job. She has a great voice and was easy to listen too. This is the same narrator for all three books in the series and she stayed consistently good throughout.

Lorilei has always displayed the outward appearance of perfection. Business suits, perfectly pressed and never a hair out of place. But that that image on the outside isn't matching what's on the inside, not anymore. After her husband left her for another man, Lorilei and her two besties have formed the P.I. Firm, Fool Me Once now she's ready to set aside her career as a lawyer and focus on making her own way. The perfect opportunity arises when she stumbles across the dead body, now if she can solve this case she can be taken seriously. The only problem, Dallas is also working the case.

Dallas is a former cop turned P.I. has been handed the case that Lorilei wants, but that isn't going to stop her from solving the case first. As Dallas and Lorilei decide to work together, the case isn't the only thing that they find themselves focused on. When their hatred turns to lust, Lorilei might just get a second chance at love and getting it right this time.

The one thing you can count on when it comes to a Sivec read is laughter. The third installment of the Fool Me Once Series was a hit from page one. Dallas was that perfect bit of hot and pompous while Lorilei was trying to remain prim but failing and letting the feisty just shot right out of her.

I loved that rather than just giving us humor, we had a suspenseful plot to focus on. Throw in that while all the events unfold you also get glimpses of both characters in a few weakened moments - you find yourself in the midst of such a well-rounded story. This doesn't just fall into the box of humor... Tara Sivec is one of those authors who has that knack for giving you the outrageous but never letting it overshadow the story itself.

If you have not yet experienced this author - I highly recommend that you change that. Her writing is snarky, quick witted and laugh out loud hilarious.

Uptight lawyer and crass private investigator

We saw a little hint of the start of the romance in the last book between Dallas and Lorelei...or I should say the bickering. I love these books of enemies to lovers theme and this was pretty well done.

Another quick & fun read in this series! I couldn't wait for Dallas & Lorelei's story. I love this group of friends - never a dull moment with them! Enemies-to-lovers is one of my favorite tropes to read and this was a great one. :)

Shame on Him
Shame on Him (Fool Me Once 3) by Tara Sivec
Romantic Suspense with Humor. 3rd in a series of stand alones.
If you have been following "Tara's Angels" from the beginning, you are ready for Lorelei's story! Although these books stand alone, they are so much better in order. These are like quick palate cleaners between big books. I read Shame on Him in one sitting, and was never bored or tempted to put it down. Like the first two, it had all of the things I love in my books: banter, a little fun, romance, sex, and a little action.

Lorelei is the straight laced lawyer part of the the Angels. Brought up very strict and proper, she is always in business suits, never curses, and does exactly what her parents have drilled into her her whole life. After divorcing her gay ex husband, Lorelei is the third partner in Fool Me Once Investigations, and the last to find love.
"I've had to deal with my two best friends falling in love right in front of my eyes after we swore off men for the rest of our lives."

Lorelei has yet to tell her parents about Fool Me Once, but it's the first time she's been excited about something in her life, because her parents didn't force it on her. It was all hers.

When she accidentally stumbles into a murder scene, she decides that this is the best time to prove her worth to Fool Me Once and solve the case. But her rival, Dallas Osborne, gets the case officially.
"I might be more inclined to be nice to him if he wasn't such a Neanderthal and an arrogant jerk. It also doesn't help matters that he's entirely too good looking and knows it--over six feet of pure muscle and brawn with tattoos up and down his strong arms, short, messy, dark brown hair, and light gray eyes."

But to solve this crime before him, Lorelei needs to get dirty.
"Seriously, you need to stop being so...boring."
"...and for God's sake, stop using fucking hand sanitizer."

When Lorelei gets involved a little deeper than expected, guess who comes to her rescue? That arrogant gorgeous jerk, Dallas.
"Dallas Osborne is a force of nature. He's hard around the edges, crass, and full of attitude. His kiss matches his personality: it's rough and all consuming."

Shame on Him was a cute little story, and a nice wrap up to the fun, light series.
Likes:

•Seeing the previous characters.
•A fun, quick read.
•Lorelei's mother's 'change'. LOL!
•Some good danger and action.
•Great ending.

Dislikes:

•There wasn't anything to truly dislike, but some of the Tara magic just seemed to be missing in this one. There just wasn't anything very unique or special.
•The first one had the great chapter endings, the second one had a few, this one, had I think two. I loved all of the GD chapter endings in the first book.
•Everything was just a little too tidy and easy.

Rating: 4 stars, 3 Heat

The Fool Me Once Series is like Sex in the City meets Janet Evanovich. I'm a big fan of Janet's Stephanie Plum series, and I think that these books are a perfect little read for fans who loved that. Shame on Him was a nice end to the series, but I felt like the whole story was a bit rushed and maybe a bit forced. I would have liked to have seen something unique or quirky like there was in  the first book, Shame On You. Still, I enjoyed the read the whole way through, and almost peed myself while reading because I didn't want to stop to pee at one point. TMI?

The whole Fool Me Once series by Tara Sivec has the perfect blend of humor, action, romance and heat all wrapped up in a series of 3 quick reads.

Lorelei and Dallas. 🥰🥰🥰

This was a great book to finish off the series. Lorelei had plenty of growth and finally found her footing. Luckily it wasn’t anywhere near Dallas’s butt! Deep down I think he not only thought she was attractive but someone special from the very beginning. Once she opened up more, he was captivated and hooked. He not only protected her, but he understood that Lorelei could defend herself and him! Working together on the case was tricky at times but one that I feel they will be doing more often.

This is a standalone novel, and you could read it completely by itself but you’ll be missing out on a fantastic set of rom-com books and amazing PI gals.

Lorelei is the last of the employees at Fool Me Once. She is the lawyer who always delivers the paperwork, etc.

She also wants to quit being a lawyer and fully invest in Fool Me Once. So when she stumbles upon a dead body, she decides she wants to be the lead on it, but the cops call in her rival, Dallas. He was in book 2 also, but this is his main story, along with Lorelei.

Like all Tara Sivec's books I've read so far, this one is also full of laughs. There is a little drama, not much steam, and no 3rd act breakup.

3.75 rounded up, because if it makes me laugh out loud it automatically gets a 3.

This is one of my many free read and listen with KU and loved it. It is filled with lots of humor and some hot smexy scenes. Amy McFadden is quickly becoming one of my favorite female narrators. Tara Sivic is a new to me author, but I have see great reviews of her work. This is a book and series that I will be happy to purchase and keep in my library. I love being able to sample new authors and narrators with my KU and have actually purchased many of my free read and listens with KU so that I can keep them in my library. I highly recommend this book and series.

So, so read bit great series

Shame on him is the third and final installment of the Fool me Once series. This is Lorelai's story and how she came to be a founding member of the Fool me Once detective agency.
Quite honestly, I wasn't in love with this one. Lorelai seemingly was the level-headed one in the group, but she wasn't. She was like a pressure cooker building up pressure until she finally lets loose. She sets out to prove to all that she's not some corporate lawyer that can't handle the real stuff and boy does she step in it.
Although I admired her determination, something about this story felt forced and not as organic and smooth as the others.
I still give the series as a whole, 4 stars. The plots are enjoyable and the women are definite go-getters
