ARC received from author in exchange for an honest review,
Reaching Rachel is a griping emotional story of Rachel who we initially met in Living Again. I loved that this story drew me in immediately. So much so that I couldn’t put it down until I was finished in the wee hours of the morning.
Living Again was a favorite for me, and I was so happy that I had an opportunity to read an advanced copy of Reaching Rachel. I didn’t really know what to expect from Rachel’s story, but I loved it so much. This story is so deeply emotional, with some difficult scenes. My heart ached for Rachel so many times and I was pulling for her to get the happiness that she deserved.
We find out what happened in the past to make Rachel the way she is today. She doesn’t let any man get close to her and she doesn't do relationships or commitment. She’s trying to live her life, but there’s that constant memory of her past relationship with Devin, the love of her life. There are also regrets to decisions that she made that caused the breakup.
Just when Rachel makes a decision of move on and try to commit, all hell breaks loose. As I said before, this story sucks you in from the beginning, but at this point there is no stopping. Rachel and Devin’s worlds collide again, but under a horrific situation. I can’t even imagine the hell that Rachel goes through and endures.
Even after not seeing Rachel for a few years, the feelings that Devin has for Rachel never diminishes. He steps right in and becomes her rock and protector. I loved how he continually fought for her, stayed patient and never allowed her give up.
“You are now and always been it for me. You are my beginning, middle, and end.”
The growth and strength that Rachel showed was amazing. She faced some truly difficult times, and although at times it got her down, she didn’t let it ruin her. I loved also seeing Kaylee and Ben from Living Again who are such a great support system for Rachel.
This is a beautifully written story that had me captured. All I can say is WOW! That was my initial feelings after I finished. It’s emotional, intense and heartbreaking at times. But such a great story of love and second chances. I feel such a connection to these characters. Incredible job LL Collins!
“You are now and have always been it for me. You are my beginning, middle, and end” Reaching Rachel is a different type of romance novel. It is not the typical romance where boy meets girl, boy/girl fall in love (or lust), then experience a major conflict/misunderstanding, and then work it out. No, Reaching Rachel is deeper than that. Reaching Rachel begins with the emotional breakup between Rachel and Devin. The opening paragraph pulls you in and you crave to know more. For five years, Rachel and Devin are separated. They each use noncommittal sex to try to forget, but both know that they have lost their other half. Rachel and Devin meet up again, when Rachel is abused and held hostage and Devin is on the SWAT team that rescues her. One of the things I loved is that Devin immediately decided that no matter what happened five years earlier, he was going to stay in her life. I also loved how the PTSD, that Rachel suffered from, was treated. She did not immediately get over it. She did not immediately want to jump back into having sex. Reaching Rachel was a book that gave the readers the privilege of taking the healing emotional journey with Rachel as she made her way back to Devin and ultimately, back to herself. The author’s writing is spectacular. Her dialog is perfect. She doesn’t tell you what happens; she allows you to experience the “reaching of Rachel”. The development of her characters has so much depth. This allows you to understand the characters, their thoughts, motives, desires, hopes, conflicts. Reaching Rachel is the 2nd novel that L.L. Collins has written and I am anxiously awaiting more from this talented author.
I loved Living Again and I loved Reaching Rachel even more. This is not a cookie cutter romance. Honestly, I got sick to my stomach in more than one part, but not because it was a poorly written or boring book, but because it was so well written than I was transported into the story. There are some graphic and difficult situations in the book. My stomach was in knots and I found myself crying at all that Rachel endured. Rachel is a strong female, who endures heartache early on and it changes her. She makes decisions that are not the smartest, but are completely relatable because we've all been there. A traumatic event happens and the one man she's ever loved is suddenly back in her life. Devin has dealt with heartache of his own and is a sexy, strong, manly lead that you can't help but want to root for. Rachel and Devin together is a complex love story that encompasses love, heartache, tragedy, second chances, redemption, understanding, and back to love. If you are already a fan of LL Collins, you will not be disappointed with Reaching Rachel, and if you are not a fan, you will soon be. This is a great book and one you do not want to miss! 5 Solid Stars!
Well I was given this book as a Arc or beta reading this is my 1st time so bare with me.Thanks. To start off I love this book. What Rachel went through.. Omg I wouldn't have made it. I love how Devin was there for her. Don't know why other guys can't be like him. I'm trying so hard not to give this book away. But all I know is when it comes out you need to pick it up. L.L. Collins has done it again with this book.
I was stoked to get it fresh after reading Living Again. What a great addition to a great series. I hope there's more to come. I'd love to see Jessica with a HEA too! (wink, wink, no pressure!) Loved it!!! 2014 must read!
What a wonderful ending...review to come with my tour post on 1/29
**FULL REVIEW**
“Her innate way of screwing everything up had just made the man of her dreams walk away from her forever. She couldn’t tell him. She just couldn’t. She couldn’t let him ruin his career over her. So she let him think the absolute worst of her.”
Rachel Dawson knows she’s got the total package. Using her body as a way to shield her pain is the only thing she knows to do after she closed her heart off five years ago. No man would ever get close enough to her again, and most of them seemed okay with it.
“She knew the effect she had on men. It was fun, a game she liked to play. Some may call her a tease, thought if she was interested, she was anything but. Just don’t plan on pinning her down, both figuratively and literally. She was in control. Always.”
Control. The one thing Rachel clung to in her life of complete and utter chaos. Alone (by choice) and making the best of the situation she created for herself. Sitting at the bar one evening, it seems her luck just might have changed…Justin. Sexy, dark hair, dark eyes, tan, muscular; yeah a girl can do a lot with that. He’s rough hands and smooth talking, perfect. One night, okay or two can’t hurt. Rachel is in control…except that doesn’t sit well with Justin and all too soon, things start to change.
“She was used to guys just moving on and not coming back if she pushed them away. He was walking towards her. He would be right in front of her soon. She was mad at him. She was furious. He hurt her. He embarrassed her. No one got away with doing that. She didn’t need him. Then why was her heart racing?”
***
“I was with a girl once that I thought was my forever. I have never felt for anyone the way I felt for her. But she taught me something, and that was that someone that loves you so fiercely can also destroy you in one fell swoop.”
Devin Putnam walked away. Away from the one woman that he never thought he’d have to live without. Unable to forgive her, but loving her so much, he did the only thing he could think to do. Leave.
Now, five years later; a city change, a new job opportunity…still he feels incomplete. The night he left Rachel, he left half of his heart and hasn’t been whole since. Taking a new job with the SWAT Team is a perfect distraction…moving to the west coast of Florida to yet another place no one knows him. Little does he know that his past and future are about to collide…in the worst possible way.
“How did this happen,” she cried out, easing herself on the edge of the bed. “I’m so stupid, so so stupid. I should’ve seen this coming the night he grabbed me at the restaurant.” But she knew that nothing could’ve prepared her for what he had done.”
Okay, this book was completely different from what I expected. COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. After reading Living Again (which tore my heart to complete shreds) I was almost afraid to read Reaching Rachel for fear that my emotions would be completely destroyed by LL again. I can honestly say, this book did not have the same effect on me. I was relieved. At the same time, it was original and sad, and down-right-knuckle-biting-hands-shaking-heart-pounding-knees-curled-under-me crazy! I was thrilled when I could finally take a full breath, I felt like I was holding it for almost half the story.
I think that LL Collins is one of the most talented writers I have had the privilege of reading. The emotions she evokes in her characters and storyline just grabs ahold of you and doesn’t let go until the very end. I look forward to reading more of her work, and having my heart put through the emotional wringer once again. Fabulous!
***I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review****
Wow!! What a great follow up to Living Again!! L.L. Collins hit the mark again!! From the very beginning, I was sucked in and could not put it down! Heck, I even remember staying up until 3am just to finish reading and I had to go to work the next day! But, it was worth it.
The story begins with Rachel who is living life "under the radar". She is a runaway living with a deep secret and a hidden past. She doesn't open up to any of her friends and has a string of meaningless relationships with men to avoid attachment and emotions. Her heart is forever locked away because she can only love one man; Devin. But Devin is gone; nowhere near her. She hasn't seen or heard from him in 5 years. Her life is sad, lonely, full of heartbreak and regret. But on that day, that Devin finally returns, can Rachel let go of the past and overcome her fears of heartbreak? Can Devin reach Rachel and show her how to live again?
Let me just say that Rachel goes through a lot of traumatic and heart-wrenching experiences in this book and I absolutely love her strength. No matter what happened, she never gave up and always fought back. She didn't try to hide herself from others. She is independent, sexy, smart, funny as hell, and empowering. Her character developed so much in this story and you can really tell that L.L. Collins put a lot of heart and soul into this story. The plot was great, the writing was superb, and the dialogue between the characters was on point. There is also some suspenseful scenes and I was on the edge of my seat. Devin is amazing! He is such a good compliment to Rachel. He is her protector and I loved it! He is also smokin hot and very "commanding" in the bedroom! HELLO!!!
I also loved the fact that we got to see some of the previous characters from Living Again. Umm..Ben aka Dr. Yummy! Yes, I will never forget him! LOL. Overall, this was a great story and I loved it! What a great way to start 2014! I highly recommend this book to everyone!
Let me start by saying that I wish I could give both Living Again and Reaching Rachel more than 5 stars! LL Collins has such a talent for writing both in the style she writes, with so much detail, but also in her character development and storylines!
Reaching Rachel grabs you from the very beginning. By the end of the first chapter I literally could not get myself to stop reading. I was immediately drawn to Rachel and felt like I wanted to know more about her. She spent years going through the motions trying to find anything to get her mind off of her first love, Devin, who sadly was pushed away when they were younger during a crazy situation which you learn about later in the book.
When an absolutely terrifying event happens to Rachel they are reunited in a very by chance way! I will be honest the scene with what happened to Rachel was hard to read. It was one of those scenes where I wanted to stop but I just couldn't because I needed to see Rachel get through and be ok!
As the story continues it is amazing to see Rachel really grow and the support of her friends is just amazing! One thing I really loved is how Kayley and Ben and their kids are still intertwined in the story so those of us who enjoyed Living Again still get to see what has been happening after. It really is as though we are just seeing the next part of the story just by a different point of view. I loved when Kayley literally gives Rachel her own advice that she had given to Kayley during Living Again and when Alexis mentions her two daddies. I will have to stop myself now so I don't give anything else away, although I really could go on and on about this book!
I am absolutely looking forward to see what LL Collins comes up with next. I love all these characters and I can't wait to see the next part of the story! After reading Reaching Rachel, LL Collins has solidified her place on my top authors to watch for! Well done and PLEASE never stop writing!!
I was given this book as an ARC for an honest review. I gave this book 5 Majestic Stars. If I could have given more I would have. This is book 2 in the Living Again series, but can be read as a stand alone. There are just some Stories and Authors that are a notch above the rest. This is one of those Authors. Her stories are captivating and beautiful.
This is Devin and Rachel's story.
5 years ago Rachel and Devin were together. They had a perfect, happy life. They couldn't have asked for more, but something happens and Devin feels betrayed and he is angry. He is crushed and doesn't know how to get past the deception that he thinks Rachel has committed. Rachel does nothing to convince him that it isn't true. She watches him walk out of her life, and is devastated. She wants nothing more to crawl in a hole and bury herself and die.
5 years later. Rachel is still not over Devin, she knows she will never get him back, that he would never forgive her, she hasn't seen him in 5 years after he drove away on his motorcycle. She lives her life the best way she knows how. She exists, she goes to work, she has a few friends, and she sleeps around with men that she refuses to make commitments to. Her mind, her heart and her soul are still tied to Devin. She watches her friends fall in love and make families together and it breaks her heart.
Rachel meets someone and starts seeing him, after all he is very persistent and will not really take no for an answer, he starts becoming more and more controlling over her and she doesn't like it. This is why she doesn't do relationships she tells herself. There is a dark side to Justin and when Rachel finally finds this out will it be to late to save her?
Devin, again for 5 years has tried to get over the love of his life. He does still love her but can't help but still feel that sting of what happened. Devin is a cop and he gets orders that he is being transferred to a new city and has to move. He is put on a case at work that is heating up and he doesn't realize how close to home it really is. Can he save Rachel in time? When he finds out that it is Rachel that is in trouble how is he going to react? Can he get past the hurt that has been brewing for 5 years. Is there a chance for these two to start again? Can Devin love Rachel with everything that he has and put the past behind him? And can Rachel get over all she has been through to share herself with someone else?
I LOVED this story. Poor Rachel has been through so much in her young life and I was rooting for her the whole time. She is a damaged soul that needs just the right person to get her through it before she is completely lost. And Devin is just that man, he is sweet, loving and understanding. He honestly puts himself second no matter what and Rachel first. He loves her with his whole heart, he is a beautiful soul, that radiates light. These two together were spectacular and beautiful. The story not only deals with the things that are happening in the here and now, you get a glance into the past and what happened between the two of them and why they split up the first time. You get to see first hand how amazing these two are together. And how much they complete each other.
Rachel is a fighter and if she wasn't she never would have made it through the things that she went through. She is not naive and is not a push over. She is a strong, independent woman, who is feisty and very determined to fight right back when life throws her nothing but garbage.
This is a story about strength and endurance. It is a story about love and second chances. There are parts of the story that are very hard to read at times because of the things that Rachel goes through. It is strongly recommended that if you don't like to read about violence or abuse situations that you not read this. It is written very well and in a very classy way. At no time was I offended or upset.
LL has done it AGAIN!!! She has really quite out done herself, this story was so different from Living Again, but just as powerful. The Characters now have a special place inside of my heart forever. Thank you LL for your beautiful stories, I cannot wait to read book #3 in this series. I'm sure it will be just as amazing as the last two.
Wow. This book… L.L. Collins has done it again. After reading Living Again I wondered whether the follow up story and next of her books would be as good as the first and boy is it. This is the second book of this series but can be read as a standalone. This page hooked me from the get go and takes you on a roller coaster of emotions, draws you in and stays with you after. I read it in one sitting, couldn’t put it and needed to know what happened next.
The story centers on the relationship of Rachel and Devin. We start with Rachel’s perspective five years after they broke up. She hasn’t moved on from Devin and after feeling responsible for how their relationship ended, (which we do find out why) she is now a ‘casual-fling’ only girl. Not believing she is worthy love, she soon finds a new man for a night – Justin. He however, has other ideas and is soon worming his way into her life. After a few different interactions between him and Rachel, I began to feel that there was something off about him. Their story unfolds in a VERY unexpected plot twist and just when you think Rachel is going to catch a break, everything goes downhill once again.
“All she had to do was open herself up again and believe it was possible.”
Devin on the other hand, is now in the Police SWAT force that is about to move for a very important case. He too, is plagued by memories of his green eyed ex-girlfriend and that has stopped him moving on with his life. When these two reconnect you are expecting a chance meeting somewhere and definitely not what actually occurred between the two. During these scenes my heart just broke for both of them. A totally unexpected way for the story to play out but just adds to the overall feel of the book and has your emotions unfolding for the lead characters.
“You are now and have always been it for me. You are my beginning, middle, and end. I’m only me when I’m with you. I’ve only lived marginally for the last 5 years. Don’t you see? Neither one of us has moved on because were meant to be, Rachel. You are mine.”
The situations faced in this book are very dark and at times hard to read, but I felt that the way L.L. Collins told the story and set it out was done so beautifully. Rachel has had a lot to face in her life and while we find out why she keeps people at arm’s length, her journey to open up and let people in, especially Devin was a long one. I found myself rooting for her, and wanting her to let him in and move one together.
“I’ve never stopped loving you, Rachel. Never. Every woman has been compared to you, and they all failed. My heart has never belong to anyone else.”
Devin was an AMAZING character and probably my favourite in the book. Him and Rachel are so messed up and have a lot of mending to do but his loyalty, the way he works with Rachel and takes care of her just makes me love him more. He’s such a sweetie and I want him for myself. We do see Kayley and Ben from the first book, which I thought was a nice touch to the story as I really enjoyed Living Again and so was nice to see how they were now.
“Thank you, too.” “For?” “For reaching me, making me believe I deserved the life I never thought I would have. I’m living again because of you.”
This story for me was beautiful. It wasn’t your usual kind of romance where boy meets girl, one makes mistake, and they break up and then get back together. In my opinion was it was so much better, rather a journey of two people who reconnected after some time to work on their problems to create a romance story that we could all connect with. The situations in this book such as the PTSD, were treated with such care and the length of time they played out made it believable and not just quick fixes. The book flowed beautifully, drew you in and gave a major book hangover. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it completely. I look forward to reading the next work from L.L. Collins.
***An ARC was received from the Author for an honest review.
I was given an ARC of this copy for an honest review.
Rachel has had a tough time in the last 5 years since Devin walked out of her life. Using men to try and fill the void Devin left in her all those years ago, Rachel stumbles upon one man, she comes to regret ever inviting into her bed.
When shit hits the fan, who will be there to save her from this monster that's taken over her life, and the demons that threaten to take over her mind?
Devin. Devin, Devin, Devin. GOD I LOVE HIM! Ladies, meeting Devin is like meeting the boyfriend you wish you had, instead of the one your stuck at home with.
Taking a job with SWAT, and having to move across Florida, the last person he expects to find, is Rachel. And he sure as hell didn't plan to find her like this.
Just when I thought Dr. Yummy (AKA Ben) from Living Again, couldn't be beaten....Devin shows up and proves me wrong!
Holy mother of AMAZING BOOKS!!
L.L. Collins does it again with her second book in the Living Again series! Reaching Rachel is an ABSOLUTE MUST READ!!
I read and finished this book in like...oh I dunno..like 6 hours or something like that. Just like in Living Again, this book completely captivates you from the very first page, and doesn't let go of you until the horror of reaching the last page is thrust upon you.
If you're expecting this book to be anything like Living Again...Think again people! While I absolutely LOVED Living Again, I think I loved this book more.
There are so many different things that kept me turning the pages throughout this book. The angst, heartbreak, angst, love, and did I mention angst? Because holy hell there's a LOT of that in this book. Those are all things that had me turning the pages and praying to all the God's out there, that everything works out okay in the end.
In this book, Author LL Collins, tackles some pretty tough issues, and let me just say, she does it FLAWLESSLY!
Just like in Living Again, LL Collins uses her magical mind, awesome characters, and captivating story line, to suck you in and make you feel like part of the story instead of just a reader. You cant help but to stumble, trip, and fall head first into the world Collins creates with these characters, or head first in LOVE with Devin!
This book was 5 fantastically awesome stars, and LL Collins deserves a million more for this book. This will definitely be a book I read again and again and again...and again. :P
I had been eagerly awaiting Reaching Rachel ever since reading the prologue at the end of Living Again, the brilliant first book in the series and to say it was worth the wait is an understatement. I devoured this book in almost one sitting, even finding myself reading and cooking my family’s tea at the same time!
Beautiful redhead Rachel has had a traumatic past, resulting in losing the love of her life and making the wrong life choices. She is a remarkable woman who likes to be in control to spare her from more heartbreak. When that control is stripped from her and her life is compromised, she finds herself faced with a man from her past that she thought she would never see again. Sexy Detective, Devin, is just as shocked to see Rachel after 5 years of trying to get over her. Shocking and heart-breaking secrets are revealed and of course their journey doesn’t run smoothly, taking you on a rollercoaster ride with them. Devin made my heart squeeze with the depth of love and devotion he rained on Rachel, trying to help her heal, mentally and physically from her ordeal.
“I missed you so much, Rachel Dawson. So damn much I can’t believe what an idiot I was to let this much time go by.”
This story is so well written. I could feel the pain and emotion like I was there with them and felt every trauma that hit them like it was my own. I was completely gripped. It has everything you need, heartbreak, trauma, passion and second chance love. The cover is absolutely stunning too! I now also have a new book boyfriend in the form of hot as hell Devin on his sexy motorbike!
This book is part of a series and characters from the first book, Living Again appear but it can also easily be read as a standalone. I do recommend reading Living Again first but only because I love that book hard!
If you are a fan of angst, passion and second chances you must read this story! I can’t wait to read more from L.L. Collins soon!
An ARC was kindly provided by the Author for an honest review.
Once upon a time Rachel was in love. A once in a lifetime love that she feels in her heart even years later. A horrific incident leads Rachel to sending away the best person in her life. She doesn’t send him away empty handed either, instead she tells him lies in order to make him leave. Lies that would lead any sane man to hate her and regret all they shared. Years pass and no one is more sorry than Rachel, even though she regrets her decision, she wouldn’t take back anything because her lies and betrayal kept the one man she loved and cherished safe.
For years Rachel suffers. She mourns the loss of her relationship and uses men to fill the void. Looking for a relationship is the last thing Rachel wants or needs in her life but when a new man pushes his way in, Rachel is hard-pressed to deny him, when everything he does and says seems so perfect.
Mr. Perfect slowly starts to show his true colors and Rachel becomes wary of her new beau. In time he is the reason Rachel is reunited with Devin. When he recognizes Rachel during a job he’s both horrified and liberated because he knows he has a chance to get back his girl. However, Rachel has many demons to face including telling Devin the truth about the past.
Rachel and Devin both suffered at the hands of an asshole. There’s no easy way to say it. When I found out the reason Rachel made Devin leave I was both horrified and pissed. Luckily Devin feels the same and trust me when I say you do not want to piss this man off. Devin still loves Rachel and in fact never stops, and now that they are reconnected no one and nothing will stop them from being together, not this time.
Overall I really loved this story. I knew I would from the blurb alone. Even thinking Rachel would be a weak character (which ion my opinion she actually wasn’t) I was intrigued and excited about this story from start to finish. Rachel suffers a bit too much in my opinion but with Devin by her side she proves that love has the power to heal. Luckily both these characters have strong willed friends and allies who help them move along. I would certainly recommend this book although I warn you to proceed with caution as it does contain some horrific and brutal elements.
ARC provided by author in exchange for honest review.
HOLY CRAP THIS BOOK! I absolutely loved Living Again (LL Collin’s debut novel) and didn’t think that she could outdo herself, but then.. then I read this amazing story and she proved me wrong!
Reaching Rachel is an amazingly written story and even better than Living Again (if you can believe that). I read this book in one sitting, and stayed up till about 3 AM to finish it. I didn’t care if I had to work in the morning, I HAD TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED!
This story is a powerful story about love and the crazy things it makes people do. We met Rachel in Living Again and I was so glad to see she was getting her own story. Rachel’s story at times is hard to read, this book is not for the faint of heart. The things she goes through in this story are rough, and had me cringing at times, but LL did an amazing job of handling the situation in the book and writing it beautifully.
We also find out what happened all those years ago that made Rachel the way she is, and always keeping people at an arms length. When I read that part of the story, I could feel the pain for both the characters as if I was right there with them. My heart broke for her and Devin.
Devin, wow, Devin is so freaking amazing, every girl needs a guy like him. I absolutely loved this book boyfriend! Him and Rachel are, messed up, and so much in love, but they have to get over the things that happened in the past to work towards a future.
The flow of this story just grabs you, you want to not put it down, and trust me when it’s over, there is a MAJOR BOOK HANGOVER! I don’t know how or what I’m going to do now, I have books to read, but can’t get this story out of my head! I freaking loved this book and loved seeing Ben and Kayley and everyone else from Living Again as well, and also getting to meet new characters that I want to know more about.
This book is beautifully written and tells an amazing story, and will have you on edge, in tears, and falling in love. Well done LL Collins, well done! You completely outdid yourself with Reaching Rachel! I cannot wait to see what is in store next.
This is the second book in the Living Again series and this so far is my favorite book in the series! I was glued to this book from the first chapter and I hated to put it down!
Rachel Dawson is known to her friends as a “Wild Child”, the party girl that does not want to commit. But deep down Rachel is hiding the pain she is feeling from losing her first and one true love, Devin. While trying to forget Devin, Rachel gets into some trouble which leads to their reunion. As a warning there are some violent scenes in this book, but they are necessary for the story. I thought the author did a tasteful job of these scenes, depicting enough of the violence without being gruesome. It gives the readers a better understanding of Rachel and the pain she is feeling. Even though Rachel was victimized she still was a fighter! She goes through a difficult time but is determined to heal and to move forward. And I absolutely LOVED Devin! Devin also suffered pain from their break-up. But when they are reunited he is determined to never lose her again. He is so loving, protective and sexy!! He is my new book boyfriend!!
I LOVED everything about Reaching Rachel! The story flowed perfectly and grabbed me from the beginning. I loved that Rachel and Devin are given a second chance at love but they have to work hard and fight for their happiness. And I loved seeing characters from the first book, Living Again. I reviewed Living Again and gave it 4 stars – I loved the story but I saw some writing flaws. But Reaching Rachel deserves 5 STARS - I was so impressed with the author’s writing, this was perfect! And I cannot wait to read more from this author!
Reaching Rachel is a love story that I will always remember! I highly recommend this book!!
(I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review)
I received an ARC of Reaching Rachel by the author LL Collins. I have to say that I loved Living Again and couldn't wait for Rachel's story. With that said, I was blown away again by the author. Rachel was the no strings attached girl in Living Again so we knew there was a history that made her so closed up that we wanted to get into her mind to find out why she was the way she was. In this book, we get into the mind of Rachel and meet long lost love, Devin. Devin was amazing. He is a cop who is transferred to Rachel's area at the beginning of the story. Both were in a relationship in the past and some terrible things happened that made them break up. Five years later, Devin is SWAT team member in her town, recently transferred. Rachel really goes through a couple of tough ordeals in the beginning and mid through the book that has you sitting on the edge of your seat to see what the heck is going to happen. During this time we get to meet Devin and know him a little bit more. I won't go into more detail so I don't reveal any spoilers but wow!!! Rachel and Devin are so hot together. Devin is sweet, funny, supportive, caring, loving and a bad ass alpha cop so expect to swoon! We watch Devin and Rachel grow, learn to heal, trust, and survive what circumstances life throws at them. There is angst, tears, love, anger, but most importantly forgiveness which both desperately needed. We also get to see Ben and Kayley with their adorable family! I cannot wait for what the author has in store for the next book. Definitely make sure to pick up this book when it is released in a few weeks. You won't be disappointed!! :)
I was given this book as an ARC in turn for writing an honest review.
First off, OH MY!!! I really wish I could give 5 stars times 10! I love books and reading, so I've read tons of books. However I've only ever read a handful more than once and I will definitely be reading Reaching Rachel again and again! I can honestly say this is now one of my favorite books. This story just grabs your heart and does not let go. Just when you think the dust is settled you realize you're holding your breath, again! I just read Living Again not too long ago so a few of the characters were fresh in my head. As was Rachel, who I was hoping to find out more about her. I was so excited to learn what happened to Rachel, the things she had to go through to finally get "reached" was just amazing! She kind of makes you want to open up your own mind and believe in yourself a little more. LL Collins has captured my heart with this story. I can't wait to read about more of these characters and see what their story will hold.
This book is an absolute must read and to say "I loved it!" Is simply an understatement!! LL Collins is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. Her first book Living Again was one of the best books I read in 2013 and I fell in love with the characters. Reaching Rachel, the second installment of the Living Again Series, gives us a beautiful story of Rachel's pain, past and present and what she has to endure to find herself again. LL, is an amazing writer/story teller and she does more than "follow through" with this sequel.
First off I didnt think LL Collins could come close to Living Again with Reaching Rachel. But she has went beyond that. I loved Living Again but Reaching Rachel was AWESOME. You will be up all night reading. It had me heated when bad things happen to Rachel and chill bumps with the good things happen. LL Collins is such a great writer you have to check out Reaching Rachel you wont be unhappy with the read. You could read Reaching Rachel as a stand alone book but why miss out on getting to know Kay .
L.L. Collins captured my attention with her first book Living Again. I was captivated with the story of Kayley and Ben. I love her style of writing and fell in love with her characters. As much as I loved her first book, I think I loved Reaching Rachel even more. Rachel and Devin's story was real, and heartbreaking, and passionate, and I couldn't put it down once I started it. I will basically read anything L.L. Collins writes from here on in.
Wow, just WOW! I absolutely loved Rachel's story & Devin is my new book boyfriend. H.O.T. Once again LL Collins was able to bring out every one of your emotions throughout this story. I laughed, I cried, I was sitting on the edge of my seat with sweaty palms. I can't wait for more books on these characters, please hurry ;)
Deserves Way more then 5 Stars. Once i read "Living Again" i just knew L.L. Collins was going to be my Favorite Author. I dont want to give anything away so ill keep it short and sweet.
Reaching Rachel is a ABSOLUTE MUST READ (along with everything LL writes) if you dont get this you are missing out on one of the BEST books i have ever read.
"I missed you so much, Rachel Dawson. So damn much I can't believe what an idiot I was to let this much time go by."
I fell in love with L.L. Collins when I read her debut novel 'Living Again' . That was where we met Rachel. She was the wild, beautiful red head, green eyed beauty. Rachel was not the type of girl who wants a relationship. But, she'll keep you for the night & keep it moving. It was then that I prayed L.L. would give her, her own book & give us Rachel's story.
'Reaching Rachel' picked up right where 'Living Again' left. Except we learn that 5 years earlier, Rachel was extremely happy & extremely in love. Until Devin got on his bike & sped off and Rachel didn't stop him. Because, she didn't want to ruin his life. The day Devin left, he took her heart & never looked back!
Ever since then on the day that he left. She does the same thing. Goes to a bar where no one knows her. Drinks and drinks & brings home some random guy, and pretends its 'him'. Devin is no better. He's just as closed off. Won't get into a relationship. Every time a woman touches his tattoo, he freezes. Why?? Because, you see.... That's hers... Her spot.. It belong's to no one but Rachel...... They are both completely miserable and heartbroken. It's so sad to read. These are two awesome people. With great friends, family & good jobs. Rachel works at a physical therapist office. Devin just got promoted to the SWAT in the police dept & is getting ready to move. It doesn't matter how good their lives are. Inside, they are completely empty. They are missing their other half.
As Rachel is drinking the day away, she meets Justin. He is def someone who can make the night go by easily. Rachel & Justin go back to Rachel's. As she's trying to get rid of him. He talks her into a date. Then, he talks her into try a relationship. Justin might be fine as hell but, that's about the only nice thing about him!!
"I'm broken, Devin. I'm not the same person I was before."
Devin & Rachel never thought they'd see each other again. Until, Rachel's life depends on it. Depends on Devin...
Now, with Rachel's life hanging in the balance. All she can dream about is Devin & their wonderful memories. All Devin can do is repeat the same memories over & over again.
Once their eyes meet, the connection was instant!! The same connection they had way back when thing's were easy. It's still there. But, it's a lot stronger. Devin & Rachel became whole in that moment when they had each other in their arms. They both made a silent vow to not let go & not to look back.
"Rachel, I'm never going to be without you again. I promise."
It wasn't easy though. Rachel had a long road ahead of her, both physically & mentally. Devin let her know he wasn't going anywhere. He was her savior. Her bodyguard. Her protector. Her knight in shining armor. Her love. For Devin. Rachel was his EVERYTHING !!! Devin didn't care how many times he had to tell Rachel that. Or how many times he had to show her. Devin would prove it.
Even with everything Rachel was going thru. They settled back into a daily routine. Together. Rachel was totally hesitant. But, Devin's not a quitter. I loved how Ben & Kayley were in this book too. Kayley got to give Rachel the same advice she gave Kayley about Ben.
"You are worth everything that I've had to go through,"
You will love this story!! I was 100% totally hooked from page 1 & was highly upset when I finished. Hahaha!! There was some parts that were hard to read. But, LL didn't hold anything back. Gave us a story that was totally believable. I agree 100% with what other people who read this book as well. She didn't rush the story. Didn't make it unbelievable. I wasn't expecting girl meets guys & falls in love. And, maybe break up. Only bc her 1st book 'Living Again' was far from that. But, she reached a whole new level in 'Reaching Rachel' . She totally nailed it!! I'd go from smiling & laughing. To balling my eyes out!! My emotions were all over the place. This is a total MUST READ !!!!! I can't wait to see what's next.
“You are now and have always been it for me. You are my beginning, middle, and end”
Reaching Rachel is the 2nd book in the Living Again Series by L.L. Collins. We were first introduced to Rachel in Living Again (Book 1).I loved Living Again, I went through tons of emotions when reading it. L.L. Collins knows how to get the readers tuned into the characters story. So I didn’t expect anything less for Reaching Rachel. And the second it came available to me I snatched it up. Boy am I glad I did!!
Rachel was known as the wild child. While her other friends were in relationships and settling down; Rachel was fine with just having fun. Or so everyone thought. Rachel did well at hiding her true feelings. But keeping it all locked away she couldn't tell her friends what really happened to her to make her this way. She would never be able to trust anyone and settle down not after….. him….. She knew if she was to tell her friends the truth of what she did in her past they would take off running for the hills; for sure. Nobody would want her around so she couldn't let them know what happened. So she kept her past just that the past. So Rachel does what she knows best, she keeps everyone at arms length. There is no need to get close to anyone, she will never feel that way about anyone again. So why try. With all the begging of her friends to try to give this new guy a chance, Rachel starts to think maybe she can try. She will never feel the same, but she can try. But as she starts to learn more about Justin, she sees things aren't at all what they seem.
Devin had already had his heartbroken once. By the girl he thought would be his life. She was his life and he wanted to spend the rest of it with her. Until some life altering secrets get revealed. Devin confronts Rachel and she can’t deny it. It breaks Devins heart. So he does all he can, he leaves. Now years later and he still cant stop thinking about her. Will he ever see her again, should he seek her out, did all that really happen. All questions Devin wanted the answers to but couldn't get them, and didn’t know if he wanted to know the truth. After a promotion he picked up and moved to a town where he knew nobody. But into work and not wanting a relationship he was ready to move. When on the job Devin walks into a scenario he never expected. There she was. The girl that broke his heart. Who changed the man he was. He had come face to face with her, and everything stopped. And she needed him. He knew he had to be there for her. If everything worked out, he didn't know what happened before, but he knew he was put in the position for a reason. He is going to do everything in his power to not loose her again. He barely lived it the first time. He didn’t know if he could handle it again. But with everything that Rachel went through, can it work. Or will she still be to closed off to be able to accept what he is trying to offer.
I absolutely LOVED Reaching Rachel. I mean what this woman endured was just unimaginable. And yet she comes back from it al as strong as ever. Nothing Breaks Rachel, she is a strong independent woman. Just when someone though they broke her, she proved them wrong by coming up with a game plan to try to change things. While reading this, I was on edge the whole time. I thought i knew what was going to happen, I thought I could anticipate what would happen next. Was I ever wrong. There was nothing predictable about this story, and L.L. does such a great job to get you pulled in the story with the characters. I was enthralled the entire time. As much as I loved Living Again, I enjoyed Reaching Rachel so much more. Living Again was a tearjerker and it was also a really long novel. Reaching Rachel, although it was emotional, and I did go through tons of emotions reading this one; I just got into this one a lot easier. After reading this I could tell L.L.’s work is adapting and only getting better, (if that were possible to begin with). I am looking forward to reading more from L.L. and can’t wait to see what she has installed for us in the future. If you haven't picked up Living Again or Reaching Rachel, I suggest you one click.. Now! Erica~ The Book Nuts
This book contains abuse, sexual situations and some may not be able to handle the books content. But it is an excellent book. I loved it!! I have never gone thru an abusive relationship but the book Reaching Rachel, by L.L. Collins, tells you what its like. A girl that has had the worst things happen to her and how she overcomes all the bad that has happened to her. Rachel doesnt do relationships and she pushes men out of her life. She doesnt want the hurt she endured from when Devin left that night 5 years ago so she steers clear of emotion filled relationships.
Rachel is in love with Devin Putnam and expected to spend the rest of her life with him until a dirty cop changed her plans. Rachel tries to get over the split between her and Devin by moving away to another town. She quits school and works as a manger at physical rehab facility instead of a therapist herself. Her friends are all married and have their own lives with their children. They try to encourage her to get serious with a man herself and stop pushing them away and having one night stands. Until one night at a club her friends dont frequent, she goes to drink and forget the day he left 5 years ago. She meets Justin. Nice looking man and is all for the "no over nights". Rachel becomes more involved with Justin and decides to trust him and start a relationship with him.
Justin is a very dominant man and very jealous she soon finds out, on a night out at a club with her friends. Justin dont take well to another man talking to or looking at Rachel. He becomes very possessive and hurts her. She then second guesses the relationship but decides to give him a second chance. Justin has a past! Its not a good past and Rachel finds out too late.
But whenever she hears a motorcycle she always looks for Devin. She thinks of him when she is with Justin when he makes love to her. She just cant forget him. Justin gets hurt at work and decides that Rachel should take care of him, this is his plan to further the relationship. Then while recooperating he takes it upon himself to move in stating he has lost his apartment. Rachel doesnt want this. Shes not ready to take this step into their relationship. She tries to persuade Justin otherwise. This doesnt settle with Justin at all and takes things a step up and becomes her worst nightmare. He becomes very demanding.
Devin has gotten the job he wanted on a swat team. He moves to the town Rachel is living in now. He steps right into the new job with a big case looking for an abusive man who is wanted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, attempted murder, kidnapping, leaving the scene of a crime and attempted murder of a police officer. This is the first big job Devin gets venturing into his new job and he is going to get the guy. Devin stays focused in his work to forget his past with Rachel and how hurt he was when he left her that day.
Devin finds Rachel, then she reveals why they broke up. Now hes out for revenge on those who hurt Rachel. No matter what he has to do, he will make them pay.
Does Devin still love Rachel? He is about to find out how strong he still loves her and what steps he has to take to prove it to her. Can he let the past go and move forward with a relationship with Rachel? Will Rachel trust him?
I loved the story. The issues in this book are so very real. I loved the story of Rachel and Devin. Her friends Kayley, Emily and Jessica are all important in her life as well she just doesnt want to share her past with any of them.
Would I recommend this book. Hell yh!! I couldnt put it down. The book touches issues all women should never have to deal with. If you cant handle the issues of abuse then this book isnt for you. But it tells a story of a girl who can overcome abuse and love again.
"You are now and have always been it for me. You are my beginning, middle, and end."
After I read Living Again, I didn't think LL Collins could write another heartbreaking, tear-soaking page turn. Boy was I WRONG!!! I couldn't wait to read Rachel's story. I wanted to know all about her and her past, or so I thought. After reading Reaching Rachel, I can't believe that one woman could go through so much, survive, and still have the ability to love.
"Their relationship had been combustible, passionate, and all consuming, but the fire had been instantly extinguished the moment he pulled away, riding that reverberating motorcycle."
Rachel ran away from her first and only love five years ago but still hadn't moved on. She couldn't or wouldn't get into a relationship. She still harbored feelings for Devin even after five years and didn't think she would ever get over him. She was head strong, opinionated, and felt no remorse for it. Then she met Justin. He was just supposed to be a filler for one night to help her forget but a few weeks in and he had firmly planted himself in her life. After Rachel talked to her best friend Kayley, she decides to give Justin a chance. The biggest mistake of her life.
"I just don't think I'm the person you are looking for. I'm not a forever kind of girl." "No matter how much she knew that she needed to let it go and allow Justin in, there was a lock and key around her heart, and she was afraid that the only guy that would ever unlock it was the one person she would never see again."
Devin Putnam was on the up and up in his career as a police officer. He had just gotten the news that he got his transfer to a SWAT team on the west coast of Florida. A job he had been hoping for. He was praying that this would be what he needed to forget about Rachel and what happened five years ago. He never thought that the one person he was trying to get over would be the person he found saving on his first mission.
"All he was the ghost of a person he never thought he would see again. She was here. In this house. With this crazy ass psychopath. He'd know that face anywhere, because it haunted his dreams."
Devin saved Rachel but she had endured horrible things at the hands of a monster. Now he wasn't sure what would happen when or if she recovered. But he did know that he was never going to let her out of his life again. Devin is ready to fight for Rachel, but can Rachel forgiver herself for her past and let Devin back in? She's not sure she would be strong enough to survive if he left her again. But with more of their past coming back to haunt them, Rachel isn't sure that Devin can handle everything.
"You dealt with this all this time, by yourself. I wasn't there for you, Rachel. You suffered, and I was a jerk and left you. I don't deserve you, baby. You've been through so much, and I haven't been.."
OH GOD, this book! Rachel had so many things go wrong in her life and just when she thought she would give a little and open up, BAM!! She gets knocked down further than ever before. Rachel's story was such a heart gripper for me. I felt her pain and couldn't fathom how she was going to come back from such devastating experiences. L L Collins is a genius and definitely knows how to write an eloquent story to pull in the readers and keep them turning the pages!
"No one can ever be you because you are the only one for me."
***Arc was provided by author in exchange for an honest review***
In Living Again, L.L. Collins shows how to find love again when death takes your other half far too soon. Through Kayley’s struggles to move on…to get past all of her loss and have her second happily ever after, Rachel, the heroine in Collins’ second novel, Reaching Rachel, is a great friend who helps Kay every step of the way even though readers can tell behind Rachel’s eyes lies devastation just as deep as Kay’s. Going in, I anticipated Rachel’s story to be heart breaking, but I was not prepared for the emotional roller coaster L.L. took me on in this book.
Reaching Rachel begins with a flashback to five years before, and although it uses only the pronouns she and he, it is obvious this is Rachel’s secret…the man who has ruined her for any other relationship…who leaves her heart locked up because she refuses to feel so deeply again. The backstory of this relationship is deliberately vague; the pieces, though, fall in to place as Rachel’s past and present collide in a gut wrenching way.
Rachel’s story is not an easy one to read; it is full of traumatic situations that bring tears to your eyes and a nauseous feeling to the pit of your stomach, but don’t let that dissuade you from reading this text. It is a MUST read for exactly the same reasons. It is one woman’s and one man’s journey back to each other despite the length of time apart…despite the misunderstandings…despite the damage done.
Five years ago, Devin left Rachel and never looked back, but now he’s back to stay; he’s back to reclaim what’s his, and he won’t let anyone – not even Rachel – prevent this second chance. He helps Rachel battle her demons and insecurities as she tries to move past the traumatizing events that keep her frightened and anxious. Her strength is amazing, and Devin’s commitment to her is what every woman wants from a man. They bring each other back to life and remain steadfast in being each other’s everything.
L.L. Collins is one fabulous storyteller. She makes her readers feel so many emotions throughout the text; at times, I had to stop reading because my eyes were so blurred with tears. Her characters are realistically flawed and brilliantly written. You can’t help but fall in love with them and root for them as they fight through obstacle after obstacle – sometimes ones they endure due to their own insecurities. Just like her characters, L.L. broke me apart and then put me back together. To be able to draw such emotion out of a reader is a true gift, and I can’t wait for the next time she puts me through the ringer and then eases the pain through an amazing love story!
