Saving Jack
Jack is on the run from Trevor, his abusive ex-lover, when he runs into Sam, the Chief of Police in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere. Sam takes Jack in, feeds him, gives him a bed and offers him time to heal. Jack is surprised how strongly attracted he is to the tall muscular law man. After two years with Trevor, he had thought that part of his brain was long dead. It hardly matters, though. He can’t stay in one place too long.
Sam is content taking care of the good citizens of Stonefield, Montana. Sure he’s alone but that doesn't mean he’s lonely. Besides, his tiny town doesn't offer up much in the way of potential partners. Until Jack shows up. Suddenly Sam will do anything to get Jack to stay which means he will need to show Jack he can trust him to protect him. But Trevor isn't finished with Jack yet and with a little bit of detective work, he’s going to find him…

I was rooting for this book, because
COPS
and, well,
just cops.
But my editor's eye was blinded by the many typos, awkward word usage, and, my favorite: random quotation marks serving as "air quotes." Sometimes "these marks" were double; other 'times' they were single. But they were always "random." There was no consistency to the 'punctuation either'. So we got punctuation inside the quotations and punctuation outside 'the quotation marks,' like one giant fucking "hula hoop", landing where it may.
But I digress.
Oh yeah, COPS. Actually, just one cop, singular. Officer Sam, a little lonely, pining for love, and living in a cabin in the woods, rescues Jack, who's running away from an abusive boyfriend. Jack is at the end of his rope, until he meets Sam, who makes it all better.
Sam is in his early-40s to Jack's 26. Sam is tall and buff, while Jack's small and thin. Sam is dominant, Jack submissive. You get the picture. (Sam is also super rich because he published a tell-all expose of the corruption in a big city police department. That was worth a giggle. Rich after publishing one book, eh? Do tell.)
There were many cliches here, the standard nurturing to love turned, friends to lovers, etc. Jack's about-face was crazy fast. After being in an abusive relationship, he immediately can't think of anything but sex. Sam gets his chance to kick the shit out of Jack's nasty ex (and put him away for life, which is highly improbable in our fucked-up justice system). The town embraces Jack, and the MCs get a sparkling HEA.
I like hurt/comfort and age differences, but this book felt wooden; the dialogue was awkward (Sam began and ended every sentence with Jack's name and made corny jokes, wherein the punch line was Jack rhyming with fuck).
I also found it a little strange and off-putting that Sam was so possessive; he carried Jack everywhere. This might have been endearing had it not been for Jack just getting out of an abusive relationship where he wasn't allowed to do anything on his own. Sam was supposed to be the very opposite, providing safety not beatings, but it still made me uncomfortable. There was a hint of a Dom/sub setup, but that never came to pass.
Full disclosure: I flew through this book, enjoyed it even, but there were just too many issues I couldn't overlook.

You know, everything seemed to be going pretty good with this one. It was a great healing/comfort story about a man on the run from his abusive boyfriend who is picked up by a big, strong, sexy cop who takes him home to clean him up. But at about the half way mark, things got kinda weird and the cop got all inappropriately BDSM/Dom-y like while the guy was still trying to heal and feel safe. It grossed me out, to be honest, and I'm a big time, true blue fan of all things BDSM. I just couldn't get past that and it pretty much ruined the rest of the book for me.
Sorry, that was a deal breaker for me. If it's not a deal breaker for you, I believe you will like this one. Otherwise, I cannot recommend this.

Awww, this was a wonderful read. It is a little short but there are advantages to that for those days you just don’t have time but need a lift.
Jack is on the run from his abusive boyfriend Trevor. Sam is a sheriff in a small town that Jack ends up in. Sam is surprised in his sudden and overwhelming attraction to Jack. Jack is unsure about this cop. He hasn’t had good experiences with the police and has it set in his head that cops are straight. Needless to say he gets a surprise from Sam.
I have really enjoyed all of the works I have read by this author. They have all been very heart warming. The writing allows you to care for the characters even with little of their background. The storylines concentrate more on the characters and them getting together. The descriptions are well written and give you a good “look” into the setting and characters.
I liked how the author didn’t try to put too many plot lines into the story. She stuck with the simple and wrapped it up nicely. You didn’t feel like there was something missing or something was just left out there, hanging! It is what is meant to be, a romantic read that leaves you feeling good.

This book had potential to be really good and check all my boxes, but in the end it felt rushed and at times, the relationship had me a bit uncomfortable.
It's no big surprise that I love broken, hurting boys in need of love and affection and if they are a bit submissive, all the better, and I found Jack to be just that. On the run from an abusive boyfriend with little more than just the clothes on his back, he is taken in by Sam, chief of police in a small town, who immediately feels protective of Jack and offers him a room in his house, a meal and time to recover. Jack is dominant in nature and while his intent is to protect Sam, I was uncomfortable with control he exerted when Sam was in such a vulnerable place. I thought the relationship went a bit too quickly, even though Sam makes it clear that he has felt safe with Jack since they met.
While I did really like both MC's, in the end it was all a bit rushed through to the HEA. While the abuse was never made light of, I just couldn't reconcile Sam jumping into things so quickly with a man who exerted such control over him so quickly.

This was an enjoyable hurt/comfort read. While I wished that things would have moved a little slower between Jack and Sam, especially with what Jack had been through, it was still a good story. I did like that with it being pretty short, things were not dragged out.

Jack flees for his life when his lover attacks him yet again, Jack knows it’s different this time and he ends up States away hoping that his ex-lover won’t find him, bruised, tired and hungry Jack wonders what he has to live for. Sam, Chief of Police, takes pity on the young man he finds on a bridge and takes him home; he fights his attraction to give Jack time to trust him and can only hope he can have the relationship he wishes for. As they get to know each other both fall hard and as Jack finds the life he always longed for Sam is there encouraging him every step of the way, but Trevor isn’t about to let Jack walk free and does a little sleuthing of his own with deadly intent.
This is a great story where two men find each other and discover the perfect partner, but it is fraught with nightmares as one is recovering from an abusive relationship. Both Jack and Sam are great characters, Sam is the alpha male who wants to save and protect and Jack is the submissive male who wants to be loved and cherished; together they make an explosive hot couple who once they embark on a relationship really heat up the sheets… and the shower. Sam is amazing as he encourages Jack to spread his wings and it shows just how secure he is in himself because man Sam is possessive and protective, a true alpha male who takes control but is gentle about it. Jack is clearly of the submissive nature, needing someone to firmly encourage and guide him. Put Jack and Sam together and you have a perfect couple. As you know crazy abusive assholes want to punish the one who stood up to them, they want to show them who is boss and Trevor certainly fits into that mold.
I really liked how the abusive relationship was handled with Jack at first making excuses and then acknowledging how destructive it was and then finally Jack accepting that he wasn’t at fault and reprimanding himself over staying for so long, you can clearly see the process as it develops and you cheer Jack as he accepts the help offered to him. The entire storyline is great and I thought the author handled Jack’s nightmares and fears well, Hurri Cosmo didn’t write a miraculous recovery, no Hurri wrote about the fears and nightmares and the instinctual reactions that a sufferer of abuse has. The storyline is well written and moves along swiftly, we get to know the characters pretty well and although their relationship progresses quickly it felt natural and not forced.
I recommend this to those who adore stories of finding the love you deserve, encouragement and safety, great characters, some danger and a wonderful happy ending.

This one is hard to rate. It felt rushed and the police procedures didn't keep in check with reality, but I liked MC's a lot (they needed fleshing out though). The book could have benefited from a better editing too. Was there even an editor? 2.5 stars.

When Jack Demar, from 'Saving Jack' by Hurri Cosmo, decides to leave his lover Trevor, he knows he's literally running for his life, but a man can take only so much abuse, so much belittling, and disrespect before he rebels or is totally crushed or worse. Fortunately for Jack, he runs into a knight in shining armor in the form of Sam Wyndom, police chief. Jack is frightened and untrusting. His experiences with law enforcement haven't been good; but there's something about this man that attracts Jack to him and he sincerely hopes that he is only interested in saving him.
Sam doesn't exactly know what to do with the young man he finds standing on a bridge in his town, but from his beaten and disheveled condition, he obviously needs help. Sam should make sure he was up to no mischief and sent him on his way, but something about him gives Sam pause. His protective nature takes over and he puts the rules aside and takes him home, feeds him, and gives him a place to sleep. His gut tells Sam that this young man is in danger and lost and it overrules his reason and makes him want to keep him safe. This random act of kindness turns out to be much more when Sam begins to have deeper feelings for Jack, in fact, helping Jack changes both their lives.
Jack is a man who likes having direction in his life, someone strong who would protect him. He thought he'd found that in his ex-boyfriend, Trevor, but he was sorely mistaken. In reality, what he had found was a controlling, violent, and mean bully who loved to hurt Jack for no special reason. It takes two years, but Jack finally fights back and runs away. Terrified, but with his back to the wall, Jack knows that he has to run far and fast, because Trevor can and will hurt if not kill him. The main problem being, he has nowhere to run. Just when he reaches the end of his rope, he's rescued by another strong, but kind man who shows him a completely different way of being submissive without being hurt. Jack is thrilled to find this supportive, yet forceful man who wants Jack to be his and he settles into a safe, fulfilling relationship. Unfortunately, life is not that easy. Jack's ex, Trevor, is not giving up that easily and comes after Jack with murder on his mind. Presenting Sam with another opportunity to rescue him and show Trevor, in no uncertain terms, that Jack is his.
The storyline is good and I liked the characters, although each one was over-the-top in their personality and qualities. The good guys were very good and the bad guy was exceptionally bad, which gave an amusing, yet descriptive demonstration of their character. This was also shown in their dialog which tended to fit depending upon which character was speaking. I commend Hurri for including the difficult topic of partner abuse and appreciated how, through Jack, Hurri showed us how bad it can get, i.e., the beatings, devaluing, and the aftermath resulting in PTSD, insecurity, low self-esteem, and distrust. I recommend this story to those of you who want an easy read about romance with steamy sex scenes, and love hard won. Thanks, Hurri, for bringing Jack and Sam together.

A sweet hurt/comfort read. While reading I was mostly awing and even grinning at some things. I don't know if it was supposed to be funny or if it was my weird sense of humour kicking in, but it added a lot to the story. Especially if I was just thinking the same thing as the MC was.
Jack dealing with his abuse is not evident and so it makes the reader a little uncertain/disbelieving about the quickness of the relationship between the two MCs.
All together this is a good hurt/comfort read and (IMO) one of the better books by this author.

Hurt/comfort theme story that should have been so good!
I liked the premise of the story but at times the telling seemed a bit simplistic. Also the pace of development was a bit too fast for me at times, given Jack's history. Maybe a longer version with more time in the story would have worked a bit better for me.
From about 2/3 in, it did morph into a sex fest, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but again given Jack's history was perhaps not very clever.
Anyway, it is fixtion, it wasn't bad, was just expecting more from it.

Liked the book and the plot. What I didn't like was that it seemed a bit short and rushed. But I liked reading it anyway, liked the characters. Would have given a four star or even bigger if the D/s relationship would not have been so rushed and explored more. It was a sweet story, cliché, but I enjoyed it.

This one started off really great then just went to O.K. Abused/tramuatized MC's are my favorite to read and I did gobble it up nicely in one sitting, there was just something about midway through to the ending was wasn't as excitable as the beginging.

Very sweet story. Really loved the characters. The story was wonderful and I truly loved the ending. Jack and Sam were great together and just made me smile the whole time. So perfect.

I wanted to like this, but everything…the writing, and the dialogue especially, just seemed really flat to me. A case of telling instead of showing, for me at least.
