Rate this book

Helping people is what Denny Patton does. Most of the time, it’s through his duties as a cop in San Francisco, but every once in a while, he steps in and aids his brother in an underground battle for those without any rights under the law--werewolves. Their latest mission is to rescue a group of wolves held captive and forced to do the unspeakable. The task will put Denny’s career at risk, but in his heart, he believes it’s the right thing to do.

Especially when one of the wolves turns out to be Elijah Garber, the man who disappeared from Denny’s life seven years ago.

Elijah and Denny were high school sweethearts until Elijah disappeared from the Bay Area the summer after they graduated. The note he left behind told Denny and his family to move on without him, but Denny has never forgotten his first love. Now, he wants answers as to why Elijah left all those years earlier. But more importantly, he wants the future they were always meant to have...

A 3.5 star Review by The Blogger Girls.

I really enjoyed this quick paranormal story about Denny saving Elijah after six years in captivity where he was used and abused. Denny’s brother is usually the one saving the werewolves who are regularly held captive. When he finds out Denny’s lost love, Elijah is among the latest group to be saved, he makes sure Denny is there to help. Normally, Denny helps behind the scenes in order to maintain his career as a cop.

This moves along at a fairly quick pace, as the wolves are rescued and Denny and Elijah reconnect. They have quite a bit to make up for but realize they have a lot more to deal with now that Elijah is a werewolf. They had great chemistry, and it was easy to see how much they meant to each other in the past.

My biggest issue with this was that it wasn’t long enough. It didn’t feel as though it was detailed enough and could definitely been a bit more drawn out. There were many aspects where I really wanted more information, i.e. about their past relationship, how Elijah became a werewolf, what happened during the six years of captivity and how he would deal with that now that he was free. I also would have liked to have seen more of his healing as they moved forward with their relationship.

All in all, this was quite an enjoyable quick read that was well written. I’m definitely interested in reading more about this world and the characters in it and look forward to reading more of Ms. Dean’s work.

With the blurb like so, I was expecting a quite emotional reunion along with lovely reconnecting with the man who was your first love. Alas, it was slightly too light and not fleshed out enough for me. I blamed the length. Because it made everything rushed.

I still give it three stars because the premise was good, and I always loved the idea of couple with 'history', which eliminated the instant love equation. Still, I was disappointed with how things went smooth in almost no time.

Bummer :(

I'm a sucker for a modern day Robin Hood and that's exactly who Denny and his brother Corey are. Denny is a cop and Corey is an attorney for the city of San Francisco. But they also rescue and save individuals being extorted or sold as slaves, and in the world the author created, the majority of these people are werewolves. For the laws do not protect these weres, but Corey and Denny consider them human and the treatment they receive to be unconscionable. This is the story of 'Boundless' by Vivien Dean.

Denny and Corey believe werewolves deserve the same rights and protections under the law that humans do, but unfortunately changing the public view is very slow going. Until that time, Corey and Denny work on rescuing any wolves who are being held by humans and used for fighting, for sex, or just about whatever anyone can imagine. Denny is shocked when he finds Elijah, his ex-boyfriend, whom he hasn't seen in seven years, in a cage badly abused. It answers the question of why Elijah disappeared all those years ago. He'd obviously been turned and was too afraid to tell Denny about it.

This was a really sweet short story and I enjoyed it. I would have loved it being longer, but I'll hope for more in this interesting world the author built. If you like a fairly quick read with characters you can fall in love with, a story you can believe in, and a love story that's lasted through thick and thin, then this might just be the book for you.

3.5 The toughest part of this book was the description of how weres are treated by the government, the law and the people. The bigotry, prejudice and allowed slavery are tough to handle because its something that I could see happening, as it does happen to groups everywhere. That aside, Denny and his brother, Corey, are a police officer and a lawyer, respectively. Corey also works to liberate those weres held in prisons and used as slaves for sport, for sex or for fighting. Corey doesn’t call on Denny often to help because he does not want to jeopardize Denny’s career, but this time there is a special reason.

When Denny’s love, Elijah, disappeared seven years ago with a Dear John note (and one to his own family) Denny grieved and was angry but still loves him. It is Elijah Denny finds in the cage, battered and abused for six years but still alive. They have to deal with Elijah’s captivity, his fear, the fact that he’s now a were and the knowledge that there will be people hating for what Elijah is.

I respected the hell out of Corey and I’d love him to get a story. This would have been a higher rating for me if it had been longer in order to flesh it all out. It’s a great premise and I enjoyed the story.

A Joyfully Jay review.

Okay, so this story was okay, but it felt more like a few scenes out of a bigger story. I may have liked it more had it been written as such. And maybe it will be someday as it looks to be the first in Dean’s The Bay Wolves series. It has a good story line. And who doesn’t love a man finding his long lost love only to discover that said long lost love is a werewolf? I certainly do. So that part of this short was enjoyable.

I thought that this was very neat, loved the set up and characters, and I'm always a sucker for reunion stories...werewolf reunion stories even better! I felt like this could have been a lot longer as I would have really loved to lose myself in this world and really get to know the characters then and now.

The story was well written, but it wasn't fleshed out enough for me to truly enjoy it.

Promising characters and premise, but I would have liked the plot and romantic relationship to be a bit more developed and less rushed.
