POV(s): Multiple—First Person
Relationship: Reverse Harem
Genre(s): Contemporary Romance

Warning: This review is a bit snarky, as I had issues with the execution of this story and the thought of trying to put them into words irritated me.

Willow: 8/10
I didn’t dislike her, but I disliked the speed in which her recovery is written. I understand that it’s different for everyone, but this felt unrealistic. Additionally, home girl had a few too many tstl moments.

Easton: 10/10
Good person and caring/protective partner. I liked how his relationship with Willow was thoroughly developed/explored on page.

Wyatt: 4/10
Treated Willow like shit half the time, but one scene in particular really takes the cake. For context this is immediately after she receives a threat from her rapist/stalker:

"There was a knife through a photo of Easton kissing me," I explain, my voice steadier. "And he wrote 'Mine' on my door."

Wyatt's eyes narrow at my words and I can see anger enter them. "How did he even find you here?" he asks, his voice low.

Frustration bubbles up within me, and I can't contain it any longer. "How the fuck should I know?"
[…]
With a growl, Wyatt starts to pace the room, his frustration palpable. He stops and turns to me, his expression intense. "How the hell did this happen? Easton told us the feds were making it look like you went with them!"

His revelation is news to me, but instead of soothing my anger, it adds fuel to the fire. I retort, "You think I chose for this to happen? Do you think I want to be scared for my life? For the lives of the people I care most about?"
[…]
Wyatt's frustration reaches a breaking point, and he takes a step closer to me, his hands flexing at his sides. "I do love you, Willow, but right now I hate you for bringing this into our lives."

His words hit me like a slap, and the room seems to spin. I can't believe he just said that. Anguish and hurt well up inside me, and without thinking, I scream at him, "I didn't ask for any of this! I didn't ask to be abducted by them or for that sadistic asshole to assault me for six fucking years!"

Wyatt's expression hardens, and he retaliates, "You chose to come back home, knowing he might follow. You brought this threat into my son's life! You being here is a threat to him!"

That’s right. He victim blames Willow, telling her she put his son in danger, and tells her—the woman he supposedly loves—that he hates her. I guess it’s okay though because they make up within the next page,

"I came back for you, you fucking asshole! But if you want me gone, then I'm fucking gone."

In a surge of frustration and determination, I storm over to the bedroom door, fully intending to leave and walk myself off his property. However, I'm shocked when Wyatt's hands spin me around, and he shoves me back against the door. He gets in my face, growling, "I'm allowed to hate you and still never want you to leave me again." Before I can respond, his lips crash into mine.

You read that right, he manhandles Willow despite knowing her trauma, and without knowing if she is in a place mentally where this wouldn’t trigger her. Fortunately for him, body betrayal syndrome kicks in for Willow and all is forgiven. He was a good father though.

Gage & Mason: 7/10
I figured I’d group them together because they’re barely indistinguishable except for the part where the former is an alcoholic and the latter a virgin. They were similar to Easton in that they treated Willow well and cared for her, but I rocked some points because they seemed like an afterthought.

The Antagonist(s): 4/10
I mean they added drama, but they were obvious. Additionally they were petty and there wasn’t enough time dedicated to flushing their characters out, resulting in them seeming like caricatures. Don’t get me started on the fact that the resolution/comeuppance surrounding them were underwhelming. I wanted the tea, and to know in detail how their lives were destroyed.

Stupidity:

15 years:
I felt like having Willow be abducted at twelve was a weird call, since the author established the storyline that all of the guys had started to have strong romantic/sexual feelings for Willow at the time of her disappearance. I feel like if she had been a bit older 15-17 at the time of her abduction, this would make more sense. Lessening Willow’s time with the cult from fifteen to ten years wouldn’t have changed anything in that part of the story by much.

It was ok
Ok

Wyatt was un redeemable lol. Claimed she was his “soulmate” but couldn’t be bothered to read articles about her return? Or hear any gossip. Also the relationship between him and his son and her and his son was so fake. Definitely the type of front a bad parent puts on trying to over parent to look like a decent one.

Lots of plot holes honestly. Failed to report multiple things to the police?? Didn’t go over Heidi’s head even though she was known as “the laziest cop in town”.

And the actual cause of the kidnapping? I’m not going to spoil it but so unrealistic it’s laughable.

Absolutely not. Would've been a 2, but then chapter 34 happened (nothing like blaming a victim of sexual violence for bringing their "drama" to your life, telling them you hate them, and then banging them). Also the trio of 12 year old criminal masterminds who supposedly manipulated the cult all along? Yeah it was all downhill from like page 234.

I loved this story the struggles Willow endures and the challenges she faces in order to take her life back and the guys all helping her be able to conquer her demons!! Maree always writes a strong fmc and this is one time where the fmc had to fight her inner demons as well as her physical ones!!

Slow burn but the best story!!

Ha faltado más chispa, las relaciones se me han hecho demasiado repentinas y sin química la verdad. Un gran punto a su favor ha sido las escenas con su terapeuta, han estado muy bien llevadas.

Are we in the clear yet?, are we in the clear yet?, are we in the clear yet?, in the clear yet, good
🎶

Willow's(h) life is carefree and filled with the simplicity of youth—until one fateful night shatters her world. Walking home from a day spent with her best friends, she is abducted and thrust into the clutches of a sinister cult. Returning to her hometown, she seeks to reclaim the life she once knew and reconnect with the friends who never gave up on her. Yet, her return is not as idyllic as she hoped. The town has changed, her friends have moved on, and Willow herself is a shadow of the girl she used to be.

─── ・ 。゚☆: THOUGHTS*.☽ .*:☆゚. ───

So, there’s this major issue with the book’s portrayal of trauma. The main character, who had been kidnapped and missing for years, returns and it’s like everyone’s reaction is just, “Oh, hey, you’re back.” It feels pretty off because after such a long, traumatic experience, you'd expect more of an emotional impact and a realistic adjustment period. Instead, it’s like nothing ever changed—she's back and ready to move on, but there’s no real exploration of how her experiences should have affected her and her relationships. The book tries to delve into her trauma and her journey through therapy, especially with her evolving relationship with Easton. But it feels like the author’s intentions don’t really hit the mark. The portrayal of her trauma and the way her relationships shift just don’t feel authentic or impactful. It’s like the writing fell flat, and the emotional depth that could have made the story compelling is missing. You can definitely see where the author was trying to go with the plot and character development, but the execution just didn’t come together.

[Wyatt]

"Easton, get her off my property," Wyatt orders, his voice low and edged with anger.

Easton, caught off guard, stammers, "Wyatt, you need to listen. You don’t know—"

Wyatt is definitely a tough character to deal with. His first interaction is just a mess, and even though there’s some mix-up with the letter, it’s hard to get past how he takes it at face value without giving her a chance. I mean, she's been held captive for years, and his response is basically to assume the worst and treat her like crap because of it. It’s like, come on, she’s been through a lot, and instead of showing any empathy, he just decides to pile on the anger and blame. Not exactly a stellar way to handle things, right? It’s a major letdown and makes it really hard to sympathize with him.

[Easton]

"You're strong, Willow," he says, his voice filled with sincerity. "Stronger than you give yourself credit for. And I'm here for you, every step of the way."

From the very start, Easton is a tough character to get behind. His choice to call her “butterfly” when she’s just been rescued and is a trauma survivor is seriously off. It’s like, come on, set some professional boundaries. He’s supposed to be a caretaker or protector, not someone giving out nicknames to people he doesn’t even know. Easton’s behavior only gets worse from there. Even though he might think he’s being protective, it just comes off as really WEIRD. The fact that he’s fantasizing about her while she’s still dealing with her trauma is beyond inappropriate. It feels like he’s completely ignoring her emotional state and focusing more on his own feelings. And then there’s the conversation about sharing or wanting to be with her right after her return from captivity. Seriously? Romance should be the last thing on her mind. She’s just trying to recover from an incredibly traumatic experience, and he’s thinking about how to fit into her life in a romantic way? It’s like he’s missing the entire point of what she’s going through. YIKES. So, even if it’s a romance book, the whole development of the relationship in this story just misses the mark. It doesn’t matter how romantic the book is supposed to be; starting a relationship immediately after a traumatic event, like on page one, is just off. There are definitely better ways to handle this kind of situation. When someone’s coming out of a traumatic experience, the relationship should be built slowly and with a lot more sensitivity. Jumping straight into romantic stuff without giving the character time to heal and adjust just doesn’t sit right. It’s important to let the relationship grow at a natural pace, showing genuine understanding and respect for what the character is going through.

[Mason]

Mason breaks the silence, his voice low and steady, "He was a dead man the moment he laid a finger on you."

So, Mason is a cowboy and Lily’s former best friend who’s been missing her for years. He comes across as a bit of a mixed bag. On the plus side, he’s more welcoming compared to Wyatt and he remembers her favorite ice cream, which is a nice touch. But honestly, beyond that, there’s not much about him that stands out. He’s a virgin who’s apparently waited for her, which might be an interesting angle, but it doesn’t seem to add much depth to his character in this context. Overall, Mason doesn’t leave a strong impression beyond being a nicer option compared to Wyatt. He’s just kind of there, and nothing particularly memorable or compelling seems to come out of his character arc.

[Gage]

"Willow, I... I'm so sorry. I didn't know. We all looked for you for years but as each year passed we just lost hope. The one person who hadn't given up was the only one of us who hadn't even known you when you disappeared."

Gage is definitely a tough one to pin down. The main thing that stands out about him is that he owns a bar—beyond that, there isn’t much that makes him memorable. He’s as friendly as the other characters, but nothing really sets him apart. What does make him a bit more noteworthy is his backstory with alcohol addiction. He talks about how his addiction nearly took his life after she left, and that’s definitely a significant and impactful part of his character. It adds some depth and explains why he might seem a bit more subdued or struggling. So, while Gage might not be the most standout character in terms of personality or actions, his struggle with addiction and the pain he endured is the one thing that gives his character a bit more weight and significance.

─── ・ 。゚☆: OVERALL*.☽ .*:☆゚. ───

The writing in this book really misses the mark, and it’s a big reason why it didn’t land for me. The plot had potential with a great concept, but the execution was seriously lacking. It’s like the idea was there, but the way it was handled just didn’t do it justice. One major issue is the lack of proper communication between the characters. They’re intimate with each other—kissing and being physical—but never actually have a meaningful conversation about their relationship dynamics or whether they want to be committed. It’s frustrating because, for a romance book, you’d expect some discussion about where things are heading, especially with such a complex setup. Instead, it’s all physical with no real talk about feelings or future plans. It’s like communication is totally absent, and the focus is more on the physical side of things. This lack of depth and clarity makes it hard to get invested in the relationships or care about the characters’ journeys.

The twist with the mean girls being behind everything was pretty predictable and honestly just didn’t work for me. It felt like a cheap plot device. The idea of her ruining a girl’s life just because they had a crush on three guys and sent a cult after her is way over the top and not at all believable. As soon as the book started unfolding, it felt like a trainwreck . It was hard to get into it when the whole setup was so outrageous. I should’ve just put the book down early on because it was that bad. The way the mean girls orchestrated this elaborate scheme to keep the guys for themselves, and then one of them ends up having a child with Wyatt before she dies, just seemed so far-fetched. None of it felt grounded or made much sense in the grand scheme of things. It was a major letdown.

I finished it

The fact I finished it is about the best I can say for this book. I hate to write such a disparaging review, as I’m sure much time and effort from the author went into writing it, but it was just not good. The writing was not fluid, a lot of tell, not show, no descriptions, and the plot itself was just ridiculous. The author should have just stuck with the cult thing and not tried to shove in the “twist”.
****SPOILER****
12-13 year old girls coming up with this dastardly plan, executing it, not getting caught, and sticking together for 15 years through this same “plan” was absolutely absurd. Not to mention the “conflict” with one of the MMCs made no sense either - after the FMC abruptly disappears at 12, years later he receives a letter saying she ran away and moved on with a man and he just suddenly hates her, cause that sounds like something a 12 year old would do? I just can’t. I’m still not sure how or why I managed to finish this one.

I was a little disappointed with this book. I expected it to be better than what it was. I could have done with less of the detailed therapy sessions for more scenes with the guys so there was more of a connection. Cause I just didn’t feel it was very strong. I really wanted this to be a 5 star book, but it just didn’t do it for me. Hoping her other books will have more than what this book gave me.

I always love a romance with multiple love interests where they all get to be a part of each other's lives.

The beginning and the middle were great, but I felt like the ending was definitely rushed. And I truly do not understand the motivations of The characters who hurt the FMC and where the antagonists. It just does not make sense to me.

But obviously I don't care that much because I absolutely finished the book and I would definitely read another one of this authors work again.

The FMC is rescued from a cult, which is literally the reason why I read this book. I love a good damsel in distress :-)

hated it

The prologue starts the story in the current time, and chapter one goes to a flashback 15 years ago. Wtf bro.
The very first day she’s home she goes to meet her old friends?? And just shows up?? So anticlimactic. They also haven’t seen the news so they are just kinda… like “cool. You’re back”.
The one being mad at her was dumb. Lamest excuse ever for treating her harshly.
The first girl we meet that isn’t an old lady hates the MFC. of course.

This story has no originality, skips through the world building and has uninteresting characters.

Home Sweet Home was not only empowering, but it brought the reality of mental illness and healing from trauma to the forefront of the mind. Willow, the FMC was abducted at the age of 12 and she endured hell for 15 years (at the hands of a cult and some other sketchy individuals). The mental health representation in this book was phenomenal.

This book was a page turner and I can honestly say it kept me on my toes. It was an easy read in terms of speed – a more difficult read in terms of content (check your trigger warnings) but the characters made everything feel comfortable (coming back to found family). Willow took my heart -she broke it and she helped me put the pieces together as she grew throughout the story.

As I got to know each character, I fell in love with Easton and Wyatt – honing in on their raw emotion towards Willow – but trust me, I was skeptical of Easton at first! Is there such a thing as the perfect man? No, there is – it’s just four instead of one! Wyatt, was beautifully broken – almost as much as Willow and I will never look at a Sunflower the same again. Easton – a breath of fresh air, he gives hope that a relationship can flourish under the worst of circumstances. Also, butterflies have an entirely new meaning now too!

Thank you, Maree, for allowing me to be a part of your incredible ARC team. I appreciate you and your art.

P.S. Be ready for four new book boyfriends.

This book has left me at a loss for words, having read this book almost a week ago and reread it 2 times since. Home Sweet Home is not like Maree Rose’s other books. Usually delving into very dark, twisted romances, this had more of a softer touch to it while still having darker elements in the plot. It was a complete surprise and pleasant change in Maree’s writing! I absolutely loved Home Sweet Home! I loved watching Willow blossom into a strong woman! Loved watching her find love in her four men! Maree Rose always knows how to make you fall in love with her characters and their stories! Another bravo for one of my favorite authors!

Having been kidnapped and raised in a cult where you’re to comply with every demand, Willow braves through it, hoping that one day she’ll return home to the life that was stolen from her. Upon her rescue, Willow returns to her hometown unsure of what the future has in store for her. She struggles to get her life back, to gain back friendships she’d lost, and struggles to find and accept self-love but also love from others. Leaning on her renewed friendships with Easton, Gage, Wyatt, and Mason as her lifelines, Willow is able to heal and find love, safety and happiness. However, when her past comes back to haunt her, will Willow have the strength to survive yet again?

If you haven't read anything by Maree before, then you have NO idea the emotional roller coaster that your life will be on until then. And this book was no different!

Our poor sweet Willow has had one heck of a life. Growing up with the best friends imaginable, to be taken by a cult, to breaking free, to living in constant worry...literally all the twists and turns possible.

The men in this story are top notch, obviously because Maree writes AMAZING men 🥵 But Wyatt has my entire heart and soul in this one, even through his a$$holery  🤣

I was pulled in from the very beginning. This story is so raw and real and intense. Your feelings will be all over the place. Each of the men in Willow's life will tug at you. Bryce will fill your heart with so much love too! ❤️

The fact that Maree brought people into this story to help her recreate in real life situations is amazing. It just shows how much she truly cares about how her stories are depicted!

As stated before, I'm obsessed with Maree's books. There isn't a single one that I haven't loved and again, this is no different. Maree, thank you for writing such amazing stories and helping my escape be filled with so much! You're the best!

So I will never be able to hear the word butterfly ever again and not think of Easton and all his compassion and 🔥 . I am pretty sure he is now my all time favorite male character I have read. This book has me hooked from the start. Maree Rose’s books are not like any other and I am always excited to dive into one.

There are so many emotions in this one book. Maree has a way of making you as a reader feel them all. I really enjoyed the multiple POV. I love when an author does this so I can tell what most Characters are thinking and going through. Even with it being multiple POV, it was easy to keep up with.

Poor Willow has gone through so much and continues to go through so much more throughout this book. However, these men in her life are WOW.
They are there for her and won’t back down. This book has everything that makes a good story. So if you are looking for a book that has an emotional grasp, some spice , and some suspenseful twists and turns then I say make sure to read this one!

Wow !!! Loved this book it had everything l love in a book. Willow mfc is abducted when she is 12 years old, for the next fifteen years what she has to endure is heartbreaking 💔 She told herself every night what her real name was, all she wanted to do was get back home to her parents and her best friends. What can l say about the mmcs, Easton, God he was perfect, he helped Willow so much he was her safe place. Gage my heart, he went through something that nearly broke him, but he is now stronger than ever. Mason the big old Teddy bear, his gentleness with willow ❤ The scene in the waterfall wow ! And Wyatt he loves willow so much, she is his soul mate, l felt it was harder for him, he felt so guilty. And of course little Bryce he is so adorable, such a sweet little boy. There is so much to love about this book and a few things to hate ( if you read the book there are 5 people at least lol) please read this book you won't regret it.

Maree rose thank you for letting me arc read for you, l love your books so much ❤

Who’s Maree Rose you ask ?

She is the queen of dark and twisted romance, the type that is toe curling and heart racing.

She deserves all the hype and much more. Her books are page turners that will keep you glued and hooked

So if you haven’t read any of her work, l promise you that you will thank me once you do.

I received HOME SWEET HOME as an arc and thank you so much Maree Rose for such a phenomenal and addictive read.

This reverse harem romance is mind blowing and written beautifully.

Willow stole my heart and l felt her pain. She went through a lot, so many twists and turns as well as ups and downs.

Now the men in this book are top notch and deliciously addictive and hot

They’re every bit book boyfriends, VERY HOT book boyfriends.

And it was expected because the men Maree writes are perfection wrapped in sin.

This raw and intense piece of work was chefs kiss and is a must read that l of course recommend.

My heart was broken and put back together all in this one book, thank you Maree for another amazing read..
please check the trigger warnings before you read this book..
it covers some heavy topics..
but with that being said, Maree made sure that it was handled tastefully and respectfully to anyone who has suffered the same..
willow was a beautiful lead female character that I want to wrap her up in a blanket and keep her safe… but I didn’t have to because she had 4 stunning and caring men looking out for her.
I loved every page in this book, I cried, I laughed and I was healed all at the same time..
what a world Maree gave us and what a world to have been a part of..
thank you!
This book is beautifully written, the story told so softly but with the edge that draw you right back in..
it is a why choose so there is also spice.. it’s a slow burn and perfect for the type of story being told here..
I would definitely read this all over again!

I swear Maree can write any book and I’ll devour it! This one is no different!! As always, check the trigger warnings since this one has a few different ones that most of her books. But the way she wrote the experiences that went with the triggers was unlike anything I’ve read. I felt every emotion Willow did. The way Maree wrote this one really catches you in the feels. You can’t help but feel everything she goes through and experience it all as if it were you in the book. In true Maree form, she knows how to write a plot twist! I thought I knew exactly who was behind everything, and to be honest, I even thought of a back up option in case I was wrong the first time. And I still was wrong! This book is so stinking good! I literally can’t wait for the next one!

This book captured my attention from the prologue! I didn't want to stop reading till the end.
There was suspense, spice, an expected twist and more.
Filled with so many different emotions from pain and anger to love and hope. It's like your experiencing part of what Willow did.

I loved Willow and I was so proud of her. She was and resilient and strong and she continued to fight and grow from her trauma.
I loved each of the guys. She had a great support system in them.
Easton's care and understanding from the beginning melted my heart though.

While Willow experienced horrible things, she still rose above with the help of a few friends and 4 wonderful men.
It was a fantastic story and we get our HEA!

I wanted to like this story and honestly when I was about 60% in I was sure I'd be rating it a 3 star but as it went on and on I began to tell I couldn't rate it in good standing above a 2 star. One of my reasons is the simple fact of how long it took me to finish. Usually I can finish a book in a day and a half, sometimes 3 if it's particularly long but this one took me nearly 5 and it's not even that long. The second part being that I felt as though we got to much of this unknown person for to long. I like my villians to be kinda laid out for me and if I'm reading their pov then I want it to be me reading it as the person not as some unknown person if you get what I'm saying. So because of the issues I had I'm rating it a 2star.

I don’t know what this author puts in her books, but I tend to devour her books so quickly. Before I knew it I was half way through the book and loving it.
I appreciated how the trauma isn’t just brushed over, we actually get therapy sessions about the horrors our FMC has went through.
I love the guys (though Wyatt was on my list more than once for being a jerk).
My only criticism I had was that I felt like the ending was rushed a little. I wouldn’t have minded stretching out the drama at the end a bit, but as it is, I still had a great time.
It was a really great read and I definitely recommend.

I absolutely love this story. Maree Rose does so well at creating a deep emotional and entertaining read. This book is about a girl Willow who after being kidnapped for 15 years by a religious cult is finally going back to her home town. Her story is of healing and growth and overcoming her trauma. While her tormentor is still at large, her guys will do whatever they can to give willow all the support she needs. I absolutely loved the guys, Wyatt, Gage, Mason and Easton, but the real star of the guys was little Bryce.

This is a stand-alone hurt/comfort with plenty of triggers so definitely check the warning list. It is a quick read but sooo good.

The premise here is quite interesting as it follows Willow, who has spent years in the clutches of a cult until she is rescued. I was hoping for a heart wrenching story and although it is evident that the traumatic experiences have severe impacts on the main heroine, the long sessions with her therapist took away a bit from the story as perhaps more focus should have been dedicated to her connection with the MMCs.
I think the gentlemen definitely assisted her as she was struggling, but Easton has definitely developed the strongest connection with Willow and that relationship stood out.
All in all, intriguing concept with some interesting characters.

Home Sweet Home
Maree Rose

Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

Kidnapped at 12 and forced into a cult
The exact moment Willow managed to escape, the cult was raided and she was rescued. After 15 years, she finally got her life back.
Willow has such an amazing support system. All her guys are so encouraging and loving. Now that Willow is home, they have made her happiness and comfort their new mission.
Overall, this book was equal parts emotional and thrilling. Watching Willow thrive with her found family and healing from all of her trauma was such a beautiful experience.

* this arc was sent in exchange for an honest review *

“There is blood on some of the sunflowers that are on the ground, and they have never looked more beautiful to me”

Let’s be real.. Easton? Come on. This man would make me possessive..
Mason, Wyatt and Gage too - hold a little something special in my heart.
Willows development in her grounding and her character is heartbreaking but beautiful.

Maree, thank you again for the opportunity to read this book early 🖤

First of all. That cover?? Unreal!!! I love it so much! Maree continuously writes stories that are absolutely amazing. This story is different content than her norm but it touches on such heavy topics and it was so well researched that those who have experience with cults or PTSD feel represented in a respectful way. Maree is a one of my one-click authors and books like these are why. You will not be disappointed with this amazing book at all.

Quick pace read, finished it the day I began because I didn't want to put it down. The FMC escapes from a cult and has a traumatic past so readers should be in the mood for darker troupes when they start it. It took a while to feel like you really got know all the guys the FMC was into - but the mental health representation and the time dedicated to talking about what the main character experienced was nice and her working on herself was nicely done.

Please read the trigger warnings before starting this book. This took me on such an emotional roller coaster. I laughed, I cried, I experienced such a wide array of emotions with this book. My heart went out to the struggles that Willow went through. This is an amazing read and I highly recommend it but please check the triggers before starting this. This is in multi-POV and be sure to have a box of tissues nearby.
