“我們都是少年。輸時不悲,贏時不謙。手中握劍,心中有義。見海遼遠,就心生豪邁,見花盛開,不掩心中喜悅,前路有險,卻不知所畏,有友在旁,就想醉酒高歌。想笑了就大聲笑,想罵了就破口罵,人間道理萬卷書,只求隨心隨性行!”

this book, above all, is an ode to teenagers.

it portrays what it really means to be in your teenage years - to act freely, talk freely, laugh freely, cry freely, do everything with no regrets.

all the characters are teenagers, and they all display that - they follow their ideals and don't look back, even if it's strange or improper or against social expectations; they just do what feels right. this is what really made the book go beyond just a normal, classic wuxia, it's imbued with so much hope and emotion, it's moving and heartwarming.

i don't think i've loved a wuxia more than this, and i'll always be grateful i read this now, especially since i'm a teenager rn.

aside from this, the characters are admirable in their own right. it's hard to pick a favorite; with xiao se and his cunning, lei wujie and his idiocy and constant desire to get stronger, tang lian and his sense of responsibility, wu xin and his (rightful) arrogance, and so many more colorful characters.

the action is honestly amazingly written. every fight is tense, and the scenes can be surprisingly poetic, especially fight scenes when it concerns two sword masters and their powerful techniques.

and of course, because it's a contemporary wuxia, it's funny aka insulting your opponent to catch them off guard. and just general banter between friends.

“是啊。”唐蓮對著他伸出了手,“江湖再見。”

it started in a random hotel, with a secret prince, a determined disciple, and a city waiting to be explored. it ends in the same hotel, with the same prince, the same determined disciple, and a world waiting to be explored.

One of my most favourite Wuxia CN novel, I watched the donghua last year (the great journey of the teenagers) I just had to read the novel cause I absolutely adore xiao se’s character so much. And I needed to know what happens now. It’s the best mix up action, adventure, mystery, politics, friendship, love and family. I loved all the characters so much, so many depths into every single one of them. It took some time to complete the book but totally worth it! I wished there were more about Xiao se old life and Wuxian too, they deserved more in the story. I was anticipating Wuxian to have more scenes in the between cause he was the best character in the whole novel, but he rarely appeared in the middle which was very disappointing. But the ending was satisfying, it was everything. I’m so happy with xiao se’s decision at last ( although I had hoped the masters got a good ending, they deserved one ).
