Lights of Peril #2

The Way Home

Rate this book
Where do you begin to piece back the fragments of a shattered heart?

“I’m letting you go today, it’s time.”

Finally, Sadey is ready to say goodbye to the only man she’s ever loved. With the help of Shame and Mace she’s learning to breathe on her own again; one day at a time.

Her hopes are high and her world is finally coming into focus.

Until someone from her past comes back to help her heal, bringing with him more heartbreak and confusion than she could have ever believed possible.

Ace loves her. For six months, he’s watched her suffer from a distance. Knowing it wasn’t his place to see her through this, but no matter the risk, he won’t stay away.

“Sadey, I’ve missed you, okay? I’ve thought about you. I missed being here. Do you understand that? I’ve missed being around you, touching you, holding you, and laughing with you. I missed you before I even left town that night. You chose Hem. Not that it was any kind of competition, but you were with Hem. I was never even given the consideration.”

Emotions are high as further truths of betrayal are exposed, leaving everyone to pick up the pieces once again.

Okay. I'm gonna just lay it out there. I liked the first book better.

This one irritated me.

1) CJ, the baby of two months, was handed off throughout the whole book to other people like he was a freaking hot potato. I can ignore a lot of things in a book, but this stuck out at me. He is 2, count them 2, MONTHS.

2) The dialogue sucks ass. Again. I would really suggest the author role play her dialogue with someone, because I just want to go in and fix it. It's really, really, bad.

3) Sadey and Mace are fucking irritating. Sadey is this airheaded girl. Mace comes off as this wanna be hardass that just looks stupid in the end. Both actually.

and 4) I probably will not read the third book.

The story was okay, it could have been better. The whole time there was this thin veil of a threat on Sadey, and throughout the whole book it's basically Sadey trying to make her mind up. Every time ages in the same room as Hem she looses her head. If she had a penis she'd be accused of thinking with her dick. She's just a freaking weak character.

This installment annoyed me too. This group sure aren't the brightest stars in the sky. I mean lets be honest, Hem hiding out and recuperating was to protect his family. A noble reason. Hem coming back out of fear Ace will worm his way into Sadey panties kind of defeated the whole purpose. I found it hilarious that they threw him a homecoming party. Yes, lets let EVERYONE know that you're alive and well so the hitman knew can find out and go after the family. Idiots.

Yea I know if a story didn't have stupid people making stupid decisions there wouldn't be a story to tell.

The fact that Sadey still considered that worm ACE a friend just shows how deep her stupid runs too. I mean - what a friggin weasel!

And they talked about the baby like he was 6-8 months old, not 2. That annoyed me.

Can I just start by saying that i CANNOT STAND SADIE AND MACE...their characters were over the top annoying as all hell. Had it not been for them, i think this book could have been a 5 star book. But the stuff that came out of those womans mouth was just so pathetic, childish, immature, and so out of character that i almost gave up on the book more then once. But the story was really good and the writing wasn't bad either, while the execution could have been better, the book as a whole was good. I just needed to get past Sadie and Mcce, they were so awful.
With all that said, i started enjoying the book after 40% and really liked it.
I do recomend it but you need to read Holding On first.
I loves Gunner and Honor and Shame and Hem. But the women, i think have me traumatized their character was so poorly executed.

This is the continuation of the first book, which I just reviewed. This book I thought was good in spots, and pissed me off in others. Let's start with the bad. Sadey is very distraught because Hem "died" at the end of the first book, at the hands of his stepfather. She is raising their infant son and trying to move forward. The reason this part irritates me is because she is grieving and yet everyone, INCLUDING Mace, is telling her to essentially buck it up and move on. It's like these people have no feelings or something.

The end of the last book, the epilogue, broke my heart. I actually thought it was the perfect ending. But low and behold, things are not as they appear. Turns out, everyone but Mace and Sadey knew that Hem didn't actually die. And although I felt a little joy about him being alive still, I was upset at how everyone knew, including the man Sadey was starting to have feelings for, and no one told her jack. He was supposed to have sacrificed himself and yet it was all just a game.

The positives in this book, Sadey is stronger than we give her credit for. In the first book, I kinda pegged her as this whiny little sister type who just wore Hem down. But it turns out, she actually has a backbone. I could appreciate that. Other than that, not much that I loved.

I give this book 3 lipsticks.

I only read this one because I already purchased it after getting the first in an anthology otherwise after getting through the first one I probably wouldn't have continued. Although the story line overall was still good I had the same issues with this one, the stupid people. All I can say about this one is Mace and Sadie are still TSTL and Sadey proved to be a complete self centered selfish whiny brat. She didn't deserve Hem any more than Mace deserved Shame. I still fail to see what Ace or Hem either one saw in Sadey, no wonder Hem saw her as kid for so long she still acts like one and sure as hell had no business having a kid. Not that the kids knew their parents since they were dumped off so much on anyone that would take them even though they were only a few months old, even with club whores. Also Preston is still a useless character that wasted my time skimming pages.

Not really a fan of this author. Dialogue of characters often feels very unrealistic, style choppy and sometimes confusing. Basic storyline is good, main characters somewhat likeable. I do get tired of the females always apologizing for the reactions to their men. Often the H treats the h with great disrespect (although you have to expect some in a biker novel), what gets me annoyed is when h agrees! Would like h more with a little more self respect, not letting her man get away with walking all over her.
BTW I paid for this novel, did not receive an arc for my opinion.

5 stars is not enough for this book. The first book tore me apart. Just to forewarn there is a cliff hanger in book one. Book two starts right after book one and I will tell you this book gutted me. Never in my entire life have I felt so many emotions reading a story. Have tissues ready and be prepared to get wowed. AC has that ability to totally wow you. Don't want to give it away but this is a MUST read. AC congratulations on such a well written story. One I will never forget. Thank you

It was OK, BUT Mace and Sadie got on my nerves. Sadie's reaction to "the event", (no spoilers here), was just not believable. She needed a slap.

I was given an ARC copy of this by the author for my Honest Review. I am keeping this short and simple - for now - I can tweak it after the book goes LIVE.

Yes my friends, AC Bextor has done it again. Book two in the Lights of Peril series was just as amazing as the first. It may not of had ALL the DRAMA the first had. But there was plenty of it in this one to keep you on edge. The book picks off exactly where the first leaves us....or shortly after. And it pains me to not be able to talk in detail about this because it will ruin it for you if you haven't read the first book - and obviously the second.

I went into this book thinking it was going to be mostly the story of Ace. Whom I fell in love with from book one. This book is more than about him. He does play a big part in this one, but there is so much more to this book than just ACE! We hear from several characters in book two. We follow along on each of their journeys, as they are fighting to survive in the world of the MC.

We are on a journey of healing - love - forgiveness - betrayal - lies - secrets. Our emotions are taken on yet another roller coaster. We once again love and hate the men of Peril. With equally as much love and hate for the women Sadey and Mace. As much as I love Sadey. I often wanted to reach in and slap her silly. WAKE UP SISTER!

These characters have all went through so much together. Each needing the other to survive what life throws at them. And let's face it...life has thrown and continues to throw things at them. Just when we think it's all said and done another WHAMMY! But hey.... that's the MC life.... it's not all Rainbows and Unicorns. =) Peril is truly a family - always having each other's back. We get some "behind the scenes" moments, if you will, as parts of book one are discussed. Making things a lot clearer.

It wouldn't be AC Bextor style if she didn't throw some OMFG moments up in there. Some "leave me gasping for air" moments. Some " I can not believe she just did that" moments. Some leave your panties wet - sex scenes..... Man what I wouldn't give to have one of those Peril men for just one night... =)

We still get the dominant bad ass biker alpha male shit we love. Along with the territorial caveman shit too. We get the hard headed - sassy mouthed- spitfire - women we love.

We find some kind of closure!

I can't wait for you to get this book when it becomes available. Which is SOON! You definitely will fall in love again with this MC. You will remember all the love they have for each other and the reasons will come pouring back as to why you initially loved them.

UGH I HATE not being able to express my true thoughts....I can't though... it will ruin things. Just know I LOVED this book!

My emotions were all over the place when it came to several characters. I was mad-then happy-then mad again. But, I get it! I know exactly why things are the way they are. I can understand why AC does what she does with her characters. I know that if things were any other way, the world of this MC wouldn't be right. It would be like the universe was turned upside down or some shit. I feel like she is Brilliant!

I myself have closure and can breath easier knowing the challenges, hurdles and struggles these characters have taken. I can dry my eyes for once and see the BIG picture. Yes she makes me cry... again....for reasons that are the sweetest moments. I can see Lights of Peril having some much needed GOOD for now ;)

Go into this book with an open mind. Understand where the author wanted to take each character. It is her vision and not everyone will love the way the story unfolds. Most I think will "get it".

You know I love you Girl! This is another 5 star for me.

“Aside from the fact that Mace was made for me to have and to hold forever……and all that shit, honey, have you seen yourself cry? Hell no, I’m not taking care of that mess. It’s like watching the discovery channel and there’s always that one whale waiting to exhale water above the ocean; you can expel some serious fuckin’ bodily fluid.” - Shame speaking with Sadey.
-------
“Sadey, I’ve missed you, okay? I’ve thought about you. I missed being here. Do you understand that? I’ve missed being around you, touching you, holding you, and laughing with you. I missed you before I even left town that night. You chose Hem, not that it was any kind of competition, but you were with Hem. I was never even given the consideration.” - Ace to Sadey

4.5 fantastic stars!

I didn’t think it was possible but A.C Bextor was able to put my heart back together after she broke it into pieces at the end of book one, “Holding On.” I am going to keep my review spoiler free of the ending of book one so this may be a short review, but I absolutely cannot give away anything that happened previously.

“In about ten minutes, your life is going to change, radically. I need you to hear me out and remember that I love you. I would do anything for you.”

Book 2 begins six months following the conclusion of book 1. I will say that I cried during the first 50 pages of the book. Sadey’s emotions are struggling and I could feel her pain jumping out from the words. Book 2 is mainly told through Sadey’s persepective. A person from her past has suddenly come back and she is unaware that the reason that he abruptly left was because of her.

“I hated that he left; how he left. He didn’t tell me goodbye. Hell, he didn’t tell anyone goodbye. He just walked out on his whole life here.”

When Ace left he did it with his heart shattered. He had loved Sadey from afar and had paid a hefty price for letting his feelings be known to members of the club. There was no way that he held a chance with Sadey as her heart had always belonged to Hem. There is a drastic shift in the dynamics of the club and the reason is that Ace has returned, bearing his heart on his sleeve hoping for another chance.

“You chose Hem, not that it was any kind of competition, but you were with Hem, I was never even given the consideration…I love you. I’ve always loved you.”

The author handles each character’s emotions and actions as if we are reading their POV. I was able to feel anger, passion, and fear with every character without hearing their voice. “The Way Home” takes on more suspense than passion as compared to book 1. There are many secrets, many stalkers, and many unanswered questions that we slowly discover the answers to. Shame and Mace’s lives are prevalent in the book and we will be able to find out Shame’s complete story in the upcoming release. We have been given a few clues as to how horrible his life was growing up and the choice he had to make in order to survive. Now we will get the complete backstory. I think it will be a very emotional journey that we will be taken on as we discover just who Shame is.

In case you missed it in the review of her first book in this series, I love a good motorcycle story. A.C. Bextor did not disappoint me and she fulfilled all my expectations. I am very impressed with her writing style and look forward to more in this series.

The first book Holding On left me in tears and an emotional mess towards the end, therefore when The Way Home came out I was nervous and less excited in wanting to read it. Now boy did I get my perceptions of this book so wrong! Shame on me ;-) lol! This book played with my emotions and had my heart out of beat! I totally loved the ride home and how the story picked up from Hem's death. Sadey is stuck in Hem's memories and struggled with being a mother to Patrick, so she withdrew from everyone, but Shame is there for her and I fell more in love with him, he was so sweet and gentle, he made her see that she wasn't the only one suffering as Mace had lost her entire family, this awakened Sadey to start living for her son and finally say goodbye to Hem. AC Bextor's writing style was so beautiful and heartbreaking in covering the loss of a loved one, she made you feel Sadey's pain, as she reflected back on her relationship with Hem, the snippets of them together as children tugged at the heartstrings, and I had to keep it together to keep turning the pages. Ace's return was expected and he played with Sadey's fragile state, whilst she tried to piece back her life and her feelings towards him. As Shame took over as the President of the mc club, new threats were discovered and Sadey's safety became a priority. There were twists and turns as new revelations took place and Sadey girl's world was again turned upside down! Brilliant second book, I loved Shame, and how all the mc clubhouse members pulled together as a family facing grief, and how they supported Sadey and Patrick. I loved loved the hea, so elated now lol, I can't wait to read Shame's story Toxic in April!!

I cant believe this book make me cry at the end. This is a perfect example of story, where you didnt get the ending you've wished for, but nonetheless, you loved the book!

Yes! To me "shame" will be mine forever, and i think this is why "shame and Mace" are my fave in this series. I like "Sadey" but i really wanted her to stay with "Ace". Sorry "Hem" i do like you but to me Ace's heart is more pure, and tender and caring. Yes! Hem is a protector and good at heart but, didnt feel the same as Ace's.

This part of the whole story, covers all the answers from the first book. It was satisfying in a way because, it kept the same tone, the same twist and turns dynamic and also the authors writing style never felt to dissapoint, especially because, the way she formulates her thoughts, not only you read and understand what she is saying, but also, you can interpret between the lines and figured what she hasnt said but, that it is implied.

I love the "Hemingway" quotes, and i think thats where "Hem" got his nickname. Stupid me, I realized this almost by the end if this book! Duh!

Like i said, i love Ace and the other members of Peril, and i would like to know more about them!

Oh but wait, Mrs. Bextor said "TOXIC" is coming in April, so i am looking forward to that one!

I dont want this to be the last. but if it is, then i am going to miss this series and will remember "Shame" forever. One of my fave characters.

Well done.... Next stop...."TOXIC" :)

What do you do when your world is ripped apart and everyday you feel like you are losing your mind? Sadey Collins knows all about that. With Hem gone, Sadey is trying to come to grips that she is a single mother to a child that is an exact replica of his daddy. The people who love her: Shame, Mace, April and Cherry are all worried and trying to help her move on. After finally coming to terms with the fact that Hem is gone, Sadey finally says goodbye.
With that goodbye, finally a light in her darkness shows up. Ace! Her friend who she missed and trusts has finally come back. Sadey also finds out Ace's true feelings for her. Although she loves him as a friend, she can not give her heart to anyone but Hem. What Sadey doesn't know is that Ace is also keeping something from her.
Secrets always come out. Ace is married and Hem is alive. Not only is he alive, but it was Ace who was hiding him out.
With Hem back, the threat is still out there. Everyone is on guard and Sadey is overwhelmed by his return. She is having a hard time trusting him again. Only after really understand what Hem had to do, does Sadey want her life with Hem back. She wants her enough with Hem. After finally being able to feel safe, life continues for all. More babies and more marriages. The Lights of Peril family is brought back together and is growing by the day!

This book picks up right around the same time book 1 ends. If the first book made you mad and you think you hated it.....trust me....you will want to read this book because there is so many awesome jaw dropping moments. Once I started this book I could NOT put it down!! Other than taking care of the kiddos, I didn't.

I was so crushed by the way book 1 ended I just needed to know more!! I needed to know if they got a HEA. This book started the same way. I was sad, I was hurt and my heart bled for Sadey but then...............

I was jumping up and down yelling like a crazy person....after I picked my jaw up off the floor that is, lol.

As much as I loved Sadey, there was moments in this book I wanted to shake her and say wake up girlfriend. Everything happens for a reason and although I hated what that was, I think it was justified.

The epilogue....I was sad that the book was ending but FANFREAKINGTASTIC!!! I LOVED it!! You did it again AC Bextor and I will now forever be your stalker!! <3

I can't say much more with out giving away the book. All I can say is you need to buy this series and read it. I HIGHLY recommend it!!!

All I can say is this book just about gutted me. It was intense, it was emotional, it was like I was there living the life with all of the characters. I went into this book expecting either for Ace to show back up and claim Sadey as his love or for Hem to be resurrected from the dead. Well, both of them happened and what angst and turmoil that ensued kept me riveted to my chair. The emotional turmoil of both Sadey and Hem trying to put their lives back together was eloquently written. It appears this author only gets better. In book 1, I did not like the first half of the book but loved the last part of the book. This book is even better and I am almost afraid to read book 3 if the author gets any better. But I have already one clicked Shame's book and am looking forward to reading it. There is a wealth of characters in The Way Home that I am anxiously looking forward to reading about in the future. I hope that we revisit Ace in the future to see what has happened to him.

Recomendo!
Esperando o próximo.

--------------------------

When the first book ended I was upset because I didn't like the unfolding events. I started reading with the heart tight, feeling all sorrow and grief that heroin was feeling.
But the story took an unexpected turn and very cool! I started reading and didn't stop until I finish the book. Very good!
Recommend!
Waiting for the next.

Don't know what happened here...I loved the first book but this instalment felt very choppy and had tons of plot issues. It also felt like a damn soap opera and not at all like a biker book. I just wanted to slap Mace, Sadey and Cherry for all their bickering and drama.

I don't know what Ace was doing...it made no sense to me at all.

Very disappointed.

Lots of drama! I wasn't sure that I could agree with Sadey's feelings when the big reveal happened. You can't wish for something for so long and then be pissed as hell when you get it. I just wanted to slap her and take everyone away from her, she didn't deserve to be loved if she couldn't handle it!

Hot cover!! 😰😍 Rated the book 4 stars out of 5 🌌🌌🌌🌌. My favorite steamy scene was actually not between Sadey and Hem but between Sadey and Ace 😰😰😰. That front porch scene was Wow!!! 😊😳. The story itself was heart felt and an emotional rollercoaster. The twist with Hem was crazy and is what creative writing is about! I will definitely be reading the books in the series after reading this one. Note to readers: the author said you should actually read the books in order.... don't do what I did and start at book 2 😁. #acbexter #hotmotorcyclemen #motorcyclegang #lovetriangle #childhoodlove #griefandloss #romancebookreaders #romancebook #romancenovels #romancebooklovers #romancebookclub #romancebookaddict #romancebookreaders #hotbooks #bookonkindleunlimited
