ML Hamilton taught high school English and journalism in Central California for 32 years.
Teaching students to appreciate literature made her career rewarding; however, she always dreamed of publishing her own novel.
In 2010, the dream came true. Her first novel, Emerald, was published by Wild Wolf Publishing. The sequel to Emerald, The Heirs of Eldon, followed the next year.
In addition to teaching and writing, she has three sons, two daughters-in-law, two dogs, and three amazing grandbabies.

Murder on Treasure Island (Peyton Brooks' Mystery #7) was a great read by M.L. Hamilton. Peyton and her partner, Marco, have been searching for the serial killer, the Janitor, for months. Every investigation they do leads to defeat. The Janitor strikes and then disappears without a trace, and he never leaves any evidence. Peyton fell victim to his attract and now has a hard time focusing on her job due to nightmares of him. I have loved reading this series and cant wait to read more. I love the depth and life that Kelley Hazen brings to the characters.
The last of the 7 book series has Peyton and Marco gryin to come to terms with their love and Peyton with her continuing PTSD. The whole office is dealing with a copycat killer mimicking the "Janitor" serial killer they have been chasing. Jack turns up a deciding clue and there are major changes in the works for some of the department members. Sad to see the end of this series but there is a continuing series
This is my review of the audio version as posted on Audible:
My favourite detective couple is back in the seventh installment of Peyton Brooks' Mysteries - and what a wonderful closure to the series it is...:)
As with all the books in the series, the emotional side of the story is as important as the criminal plot. Even more so here as the private lives of Peyton's and Marco's intertwine with the case they are on... and it's a race against time as everyone knows if they don't catch him, the Janitor won't stop killing, and he's already killed too many people. The problem is, Payton suffers from PTSD, and she can't trust herself... Will she be able to overcome her trauma and act when necessary? And will Marco be able to cope with her nightmares waking them up every single night? And is what they have real or the result of their traumatic experience of Peyton almost dying last time Janitor acted against them? These are the questions that we pose while listening to the story... The plot is fast; there are unexpected things happening, leads going astray, the need to close the case getting more and more urgent, and the emotional ups and downs make the tension almost unbearable... and yet there are times when you just won't be able to stop yourself from laughing:) The banter between Jake and Marco brought a smile to my face more than once, the picture of Maria advising Tag on how to be more feminine was just precious and the betting poll at the precinct became the proverbial frosting on the cake...:)
But the best thing about the book? When we finally get to the end, it's not the end at all, but the beginning of a new adventure both for Peyton and Marco. And that's what made my day:)
Narration by Ms Hazen is fantastic, as usual. Although I still think some of the voices are a bit unnatural, with so many different characters to read she's done an excellent job (and also, throughout the series I probably just got used to how all of the characters sound, so none of the voices bothered me much any more...:)).
DISCLAIMER: I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
#7 in the hard nose, caustic Peyton Brooks and her partner Marco D’Angelo San Francisco Police detectives mystery series. This series is starting to wear me down. The focus upon the relationship between Brooks and D'Angelo has been a major threat, but starting with #4, the book is running about 1/3 crime mystery and 2/3's the personal relationship which finally is resolved in Murder in the Presidio but still drags on.
For months (through several books in this series), Peyton and her partner, Marco, have been searching for the serial killer known only as the Janitor, but every investigation ends in defeat. He moves like the wind, striking and disappearing without a trace, leaving no evidence behind.
Peyton, herself, fell victim to his attack. Now she struggles to focus on her job when her every moment is filled with nightmares of him.
This ends this series and sets up the new series with Peyton now an FBI agent.
Still more romance than I care for in my thrillers, but at least it's a lot less angsty than the previous installment. The PTSD was a nice bit of authenticity, but Peyton's counseling sessions weren't all that believable (having been in counseling for PTSD myself, I'm pretty sure a real psychologist wouldn't play the games this one does). Oh, and they finally figure out the obvious and get their man, so that's good. Shouldn't have taken them nearly that long when the clues have been there for quite a while, particularly since the author has been playing up Jake's unexpected talent for finding the subsurface clues.
You'll see the ending coming, but you won't mind because it seems well-timed and appropriate given the events of the last two installments. I think she'll make an excellent FBI agent, although it sounds like the next series will be significantly different from this one.
What an epic conclusion to the Peyton Brooks Mysteries! The Janitor is still out there... what will it take for the SFPD to bring him down?
There’s action, adventure, humor, heartbreak, and lots of drama. Such a satisfying end to the series. Well done ML Hamilton!
I always love Kelley Hazen’s performances. She flawlessly moves between the characters bringing out each of their personalities. I just close my eyes and it’s like watching a movie in my head.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.
I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the narrator and it was awesome. It was suspenseful and dramatic as Peyton and Marco get closer to the serial killer they have been searching for. It is the perfect conclusion to this series, and yet leaves you wanting to start the next series right away. If this is first book you've listened to in the series, you'll want to go back to the beginning once you meet the characters. Looking forward to the next series.
Volume 7 of 0 - 7 Volume Set I am reading I won from Goodreads Giveaway on Amazon Kindle. What happens with Peyton and Marco. So many people in Peyton's house isn't it wonderful. Clean-up Crew/Janitor still out there? Love Cho and Maria. Abe, Jake, Pickles, and Tater! These books are just so incredible! I didn't like putting them down. But then I have purchased The Peyton Brooks, FBI Box Set: Volume One: Books 1-5 and can't wait to begin reading them!
This series really hooked me. It was so good! Every book was completely different, different characters and types of murders, different themes that developed the characters and made the reader care about them. Most interesting was how all the characters were so different, different races, sexes, ages, backgrounds yet they all accepted and were patient and supportive of each other, one can hope that life would come to imitate art in that respect.
What a lovable character. Funny, personable, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound......lol. No. Not really. She hurts and lives and is compassionate, tough, caring and just delightful. Read this book and find out why Marco is sunk hook line and sinker and find a serial killer. Never regret it!
Well, this phase of the series is complete and with pretty much predictable outcomes. Mixing almost prophetic assumptions with almost idiotic decisions and actions, this was a good reminder that police are just people, not superhumans. Many are super dedicated to their work and many more just want to earn a living and live their lives. There is a new series to come.
A daring end to a fantastic series. Not all ends are tied up - but it is thrill ride right to the end. I love this series and I am glad the love affair between Peyton, Marco and their careers and lives is not ending. Look for The Peyton Brooks' FBI series. I am thrilled to be narrating it as well.
The storyline was good, but still too much romance and mushy-ness for my liking. Quite well written though. I listened to this on audiobook and the audio quality was terrible, which didn’t help my opinion on the series.
Um final de série estonteante, muitas cenas difíceis, e muitas coisas também sendo resolvidas. Adorei este final, ansiosa para ler a outra série que também tem Peyton Brooks como protagonista. Muito bom!!
I devoured this series. I can't say enough about how much I love the exciting stories and the very real characters. Quirky, flawed, and so much fun...Peyton is surrounded by a menagerie, a completely out of the ordinary group of friends who she pulled together as a family. I do love these characters. Having said that, don't think that this is strictly character driven fiction. Hamilton knows how to spin a tale. She has superb talent for tantalizing the reader, keeping them in suspense. You often hear the phrase "I couldn't put it down." In this case I truly mean it. I had to force myself to set the book down and get something done. Others have observed and I agree that although any of these books would be a fun standalone they work best when you read them starting at the first. A bit of story carries forward in each book and the evolution of the relationships in Paytons game is fun to be a part of. The author has taken suspense fiction to the next level. This series is contemporary and smart. Trust me, when you enter Peyton's world you will not want to leave.
I really liked this series until this book. Honestly I skipped several pages. A bit too much of trying to answer the back stories unanswered questions. I got bored with too much detail about secondary characters. I am not a vampire, werewolves story fan, so I will not be reading the next series.
This was a very exciting series to read, from book 1 to book 7. It kept me intrigued from start to finish. I enjoy books that continue on with the same characters as this series does. To see the progression of the characters in their day to day lives. Thank you!!!
Interesting cast of characters and variety of situations to keep one glued. Had to keep reading to find out the outcome. Knew many locations which added to enjoyment . Suspenseful. Excellent writing.
