Love Through a Lens #2

Behind the Camera

Rate this book
Maven Wood is ready for a fresh start. After an injury on the soccer field leads to her dropping out of college, she needs a change.

When her godfather–the coach of the hottest team in the NFL–tells her about an open position as a sports photographer, she jumps at the chance to apply. The pay is good, but it doesn’t cover her rent after her roommate moves out. Out of ideas, she’s not sure how she’s going to afford to make ends meet… until the cute kicker comes to her rescue.

Dallas Lansfield never thought he’d be a single dad, but he’s embracing the role as best as he can. With a four-year-old that has too much energy and not enough time on his hands, he needs help.

Desperately.

So when he hears that his coach’s goddaughter is looking for a way to make more money, he practically begs her to come be his nanny.

Maven and Dallas aren’t allowed to fall for each other. Getting involved with a player on the team is off-limits and a quick way to get fired. But what starts as a professional relationship turns into something deeper.

In front of people, they’re colleagues. Behind the cameras, though, their attraction only grows. Late night talks turn into sharing a bed, and soon, Dallas would rather give up his career than give up the feelings he has for Maven.

He can’t have her. So why does he want her so damn bad?

༉ initial thoughts- spoilers ahead

i’m a little conflicted on how to rate this book because i don’t love it or hate it.

my mistake was starting this book when i was on the verge of a slump. i really liked the story and plot, it was interesting but i also found myself not really reaching to pick it up as much as i usually do. again its a side effect of being on the verge of a slump.

because of this ik this review is gonna be on the shorter side. i dont know if ill change my mind the future of this bleating but ig we’ll see.

༉ characters - spoilers ahead

‎ 📷 maven - really liked her. i wish we got to see more of her athletic side, i feel like it was more told rather than shown. i really liked the relationship she had with june, it was sweet though i do feel like her age wasn’t really portrayed correctly but im not sure.

‎ 🏈 dallas - he was a really fun character. i liked him. he had a great relationship with his friends and daughter. i feel like his family was really over looked though. we get mentions of his sister and niece but never really see them till the end. i also feel like there were many times where it was ignored that june was there. like they would be having conversations that should probably not happen in front of a child about many things and excuse it with she’d be sleeping..

༉ final thoughts- spoilers ahead

again i feel like my thoughts are all over the place even after sleeping on them. maybe later i will have a more coherent review but yea this is it for now.

༉‧₊˚. pre - read

finally getting to reading more books by this author, the i’ve liked the books i read previously so i’m looking forward to this one !!

Looking for a sports romance with a single dad and the nanny who he just hired? Chelsea Curto has the book for you!

She did it again, yall. I absolutely adore all the Chelsea books I've read and this one made me smile SO MUCH. It's a sports romance with single dad, age gap, roommates, forced proximity, no third-act breakup and so much more. It's a longish book with lots of sweet and cute moments so it makes this book really cozy and low on the angst. The longing and slow-burn in the relationship is DELICIOUS. It takes over 50% for them to kiss and you just want them to do it from the very first page!

Love when the single dad refers to the heroine + his daughter as "his girls" all the time. EVEN WHEN THEY'RE NOT TOGETHER YET! Like Dallas is down bad for Maven since the first meeting, I can tell you that. He wants her to be part of his little family and he knows this is a forever kind of thing. I love love love this book.

there is just something about men in romance books using “honey” that gets me everytime.

“You are the sun and you’re the stars, and even on the worst days, when we’re mad at each other or tired or frustrated, it’s still going to be a good day, because you’ll be by my side.”

a nfl man who isn’t a manwhore? sign ✍🏼 me ✍🏼 up ✍🏼

💗 single dad x nanny
💗 nfl player x nfl photographer
💗 age gap (22/30)
💗 strangers x friends x lovers 🥺
💗 roommates
💗 golden retriever bf vibes
💗 he wears her necklace 🥺🥺

Dallas is a kicker for the Titan’s and is considering retiring because he can’t find a nanny that’s not more interested in him than his daughter. Maven just got a job as a photographer with the team and her godfather is also the coach. She accidentally crashes one of their meetings and ends up becoming Dallas’s new nanny.

i loved and adored how their friendship blossomed and how they never hid their feelings from each other. they weren’t allowed to be together because of some nfl rules and while they had to stay “just friends” they never hid their attraction and would talk openly about what was going on in their minds 🥺 Maven’s bond with June was just too cute. it was everything you’d want for your child and the three of them together just melted my heart

“I’m so glad you’re here,” I say. “Eighty thousand people are going to be cheering tonight, but I only care about the two in front of me.”

i’m always a little iffy on single dad sports romances bc usually somehow they find a way to parent, work a hard&demanding job but still find time to hoe around 🙄 NOT DALLAS!!! he has very limited experience 😇 just how i like ‘em. besides 1 night where his (4 y/o) daughter was conceived he hasn’t been with anyone in 8 years!! 1 woman in 8 years i can forgive 😇

can we talk for a second how they couldn’t hide their relationship for like a few months but Jett and his gf (forget her name) have their hidden for 4 YEARS!!??

and why were they shocked when consequences of their actions had to happen Maven was like “he’s acting like he hasn’t been in my life for 20 years (Shawn)!!” girl he’s doing his job and y’all both knew you were breaking the rules and didn’t give a fuck 😭 what did u think was gonna happen. loved how willing Dallas was tho to retire if Maven wanted to keep her job with the team and also love how he found a solution 🤭

Man do I love a single dad/nanny book and when it’s written by Chelsea? Perfection.

This book was seriously so adorable and emotional I was fighting the tears. Dallas and Maven and June have my heart. I absolutely adored how well maven and Dallas took care of June and how much June played a big part in this book. It brought so much more emotions and heartwarming moments. I loved the communication throughout with Dallas and maven it made me so happy to see how well and how important they saw communication. The support both of them have for eachother was so nice to see and made me so happy.

I am so intrigued by the other characters throughout this book as well and can’t wait for Reid and Mavericks book!

🏈 Single dad x Nanny
🏈 Forbidden Romance
🏈 Sports romance
🏈 Friends to Lovers

This is the first book I've read by Chelsea Curto, and I'm in love.

Dallas and Maven are the perfect example of people who just click. Their relationship is so cute to follow, and I loved the friendship they developed before finally getting together. It led to some tension-filled scenes that were *chef's kiss*, in my opinion. They're simply perfect for each other, and I loved June's relationship with "Mae Mae".

The trio of Maverick, Dallas, and Reid was amazing to follow. I can't wait for their stories. Counting down the days to Face Off (Maverick's book).

This story made me smile, blush, and feel all the best emotions.

Single daddys will always get me.
I am so in love with Chelsea Curto’s books and writing😩 This one deserves so much love. Single dad nanny is one of my favorite tropes, i will never not devour them.

Dallas is such a hottie, he is definitely one of my fav Chelsea men🤪 And Maven… i read about her in the other books already and i knew a little about her and i really liked her, but after reading her book i love her so much more.

Fav quotes:

"Holy shit," I whisper. "Did I just speak something into existence? Am I a prophet?"

"I think all of America saw that article. They picked a really nice photo of you. Your football pants look exceptionally white." “Thanks, Maven. You really know how to make someone feel special."

I realize I'm staring at Maven like I've lost any and all intelligence. Maybe I have.

"Uncle Mav says I have to be a chaperone," June says. "Uncle Mav doesn't even know how to spell chaperone,"

"Not just good," he murmurs, and his voice is deeper than I've ever heard it. "Fucking perfect."

"Doubtful. There's nowhere else I'd rather be," I call out over my shoulder, and she smiles from ear to ear.

Puck Daddy: LOL. He's such a liar. Whoops. Sry. That was only supposed to go to Reidy Boy. Me Y'all talk about me behind my back?
Reid: No.
Puck Daddy: Yes.

He pulls out his phone and I see my name pinned to the top of his messages.

"Sounds like you might be watching me," she says softly, and I take a step toward her. "I definitely am. Is that okay?" I ask. Maven's cheeks are flushed, and she nods. "It's more than okay."

"You're safe with me, too. You're allowed to mess up. If you fall, you dust yourself off and try again tomorrow. Maybe next time you'll get a little further. Maybe it'll take you a month before you even kick a ball again, but guess what? I'll be out here with you every day until it feels right."

"It's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen." Me. He's talking about me.

"It would be worth it. You've filled all the quiet and lonely parts of my life, Maven."

"Do it in my bed. If I can't fucking taste you for myself, I want to smell your come on my sheets when I get home."

"No. She's the stars. Always there. Shining and bright, even when everything in my world goes dark. I'd stay up all night just to see her."

"Your tail is messed up, Dal. It's off center." "Because this onesie was made for people who are under five feet. It's so tight, you can practically see my dick," he says, and he adjusts the gray fabric. "If I get arrested for indecent exposure, y'all are paying my bail." "Bold of you to assume your dick is big enough for people to see," I say. I toss my hair over my shoulder and leave the living room and Maverick and Reid's cackling laughter behind.

"I will. Thank you for taking her." "Dallas's girls are my girls, too," he says. "I take care of what's mine."

"They're beautiful. They're perfect. What did I do to find a man like you?" "The first step was accosting me at the field," I murmur, and I pull her and June into my arms, hugging them tight. "The second was loving my daughter. The third was just being you, Maven. Because that's enough."

Home isn't a place. It's her.

Okay, I don't know where to begin from because I'm not sure how I feel about this book. This is my first review so it may not be the best but I finished it for the sake of completing it but it was not it.

How does a 4 year old not know how to speak in the first couple chapters but then down the line she can speak full sentences like an adult, like I don't think the author quite understood how toddlers are.

Also, it was mainly a story between the MFC and MMC and their forbidden love even though she was a nanny to his child there was no interaction between the said child and MFC because the kid would always be asleep or out with the MMC's friends. So if someone were to say this was a single dad x nanny trope I didn't quite think so because how are they so casually talking about their sex lives literally days after she started working for him everytime the child would be asleep.

The time jumps were confusing because one chapter would end and the next, it'll be 2 weeks later or even in chapters it'll be a weird time jump and I would sometimes have to go back and reread to make sure I didn't skip anything, so that irritated me. I get distracted when I read but this was just confusing on a different level

Also it was way too insta lust and unrealistic like I understand It's a fictional book but some things didn't quite make sense because they're forbidden for eachother but clearly didn't seem that way because one minute the MMC would confess his lust and feelings for the MFC and the next he'd be against feeling that way because of the dumb rules they have to follow. Also he sort of just starting liking her for the way she treated his daughter so it wasn't like he loves her for her. It was more like he loves her because of the way she takes care of his kid.

I love a badass MFC more than the next person but she just seemed vulnerable like all the time. It started off strong but later on she just didn't seem like the person she was originally showed as in the first couple chapters. How can you just let go of your feelings just because you think someone's hot like don't get me wrong I'd probably lose myself if I was with a tall, hot, football player but like c'mon this was a little too unrealistic.

Oh and one thing that got me thinking was how the friends of the MMC and MFC had so much potential but they were brushed under the rug like they'll pop up for the sake of the filling up the chapter and then they disappear the moment the author felt like their presence was too much. They're side characters and I get that but they deserved more to their story like when asked how the MMC met his friends he went on saying "we met at an event and hit it off" like okay, and?? If making friends was that easy I'd be friends with the world. Things like this just didn't make sense

Also seemed like it was written by a teenager I don't know aside from the spice it overall gave me YA and Wattpad vibes. Actually no, the spice also seemed like it was written by a teen.

So what did I like about this book? Their chemistry was good in the first half of the book ngl the love they had for eachother was cute and I like how the MMC would pick up on the little details and support his girl along the way. He encouraged her to follow her dreams and get back into playing her favorite sport which was nice because she seemed passionate about it. The MMC's friends were really supportive of his life choices and cute when it came to taking care of his daughter.

The ending was not it tho. It was a HFN instead of a HEA and personally I'm not into those type of endings.

Chelsea did it again!

After she announced that the third book was about Dallas, I was so excited (I did talk with her a few weeks before asking for a Dallas book😅).

This book is part of a series, and while you can read it as a standalone, I recommend you read at least Caught on Camera💚.

Since becoming a single dad, Dallas's life has been 100% focused on his 4-year-old daughter, June. But when the sport and countless failed nannies start to catch up with him, Dallas's first thought is retirement. That's until Maven, the coach's goddaughter, barges into the office as the solution. As the days go by, not only does their relationship grow, but so do their feelings for each other.

Starting with the things I love, both main characters are well-developed and communicative, and their chemistry slowly builds up. The double POVs allow us to understand Maven and Dallas's feelings throughout their journey. The details that Chelsea includes, like the little banter and the small hand movements, make one melt 🫠.

As for their relationship with June, they are both super sweet with her. The scenes with Dalla's closest friends, Reid and Maverick, are absolutely adorable 💕.

For the small things I didn't like as much, we can start with June. Sometimes, she acted a bit too old to be 4. For me, this is a common occurrence in books because we may want the kids to do certain things, but at the same time, it's cute when they are young, which creates these minor inconsistencies.
Then we also had a few time jumps between chapters, some spamming several days, which made me feel like I lost some of their moments together.

Behind the Camera is another good book in this series, and I cannot wait for May 30th to get to read Maverick's book Face Off🙌🏻.

✨Thank you to Chelsea Curto and Love Notes PR for letting me read another ARC from this amazing series.✨

3.5 🌟

I truly did not think this series could get better than Shawn and Lacey but GUYS, DALLAS. IS. IT. I spent the entire time reading this book giggling to myself. The banter is top tier, the pacing is perfect, and the spice is SPICY! While this can technically be read as a standalone, I recommend picking up the first two in the series first. Trust me - you’ll appreciate the entire book more when you know these characters!

Read this book if you like:
-nanny x single dad but make it ✨tasteful✨
-sports romance
-no third act breakup
-forced proximity
-slow burn

Behind the Camera is OUT NOW and if it is not already on your tbr, it should be!

Review :

I had so much fun reading this book!!

First of all, I really liked the author’s writing!! It’s fast past, and always keeps things interesting with the perfect combination of descriptions, inner dialogue, and conversations.

I’m a big sucker for single dad trope, AND sport romance, so this book was really my cup of tea!!

The FMC was great! I loved how she was kind and caring, but also had this ‘I take no shit’ energy!! She was unapologetically herself, and I loved to see that!

The MMC was also amazing! He was a great dad (which we all love) and he was so sweet and kind and OBSESSED with the FMC!!!

The ‘forbidden’ aspect of the relationship, as in ‘I know we shouldn’t do this’/ ‘I promise I would touch you’ was GREAT.

The dynamic between the main characters was 🤌 and the tension? amazing!

I loved how they bantered back and forth!
I also really liked their friendship! It felt real, like they truly were close on every level.

In summary I would recommend this book to anyone that loves the single dad trope, sport romance, age gap, and spice!!

Oh my gosh, Dallas is the lone star that is an all star. He was soft and good and just everything you can dream about in a man. I absolutely love the relationship between Dallas and his daughter, June, they are just too cute. It was so special that Maven could become part of this family so seamlessly. Their friendship development at the beginning was so wholesome and good, the banter was spectacular and then the pining started, and of course the slow burn, burned when it finally caught fire. This is again a book by Chelsea that shows that no third act breakup is necessary and a book can be amazing without that.

@authorchelseacurto you can write a grocery list and I will read it. You very quickly became one of my favorites. In my mind we are already friends, I adopted you as such 🤣

It’s stupid coffee mugs she picked up at a general store in Virginia when she went hiking with Isabella last month, cackling when she handed me the cup with porcelain antlers that says I moose you so much.
It’s the fuzzy pink blanker she keeps draped over the left side of the couch—the side she and June sit on and cuddle when we watch Frozen for the sixteenth time that week.
It wouldn’t matter where we lived; in a different penthouse apartment on the other side of town. A house outside the city. A ranch in North Carolina with nothing but open fields and mountain views.
Where she is, that’s where I want to be.

this was honestly so good. two books in a row being a win for me, i might have got out of the slump?

even though they both have their own hardships, i felt like there wasn't much plot, just them being together. and it's not a bad thing, because honestly maven and dallas are just so adorable. the way their relationship progressed; the tenderness, the communication, the devotion, them just being so SUPPORTIVE of each other— all of it just made me smile a lot while reading.

„You are the sun and you’re the stars, and even on the worst days, when we’re mad at each other or tired and frustrated, it’s going to be a good day, because you’ll be by my side.”

my favorite thing? when he basically stole her necklace with her initial and started wearing it casually to have her by his side 24/7. and when he added his daughter’s initial to the chain… i was losing my mind. because WHY ARE YOU SO SWEET!!! i just like these little things in books so much, you can’t blame me

„Sometimes I can’t remember what my life was like before you were in it. Everything about you has been unintentional and the biggest surprise.”

it was very low on drama. just light, cheesy, fun things to read about. i liked maven and dallas so much that i honestly didn’t want this book to end. AND ALSO i liked all the characters so much — basically everyone was so loveable.

„Take care of our boy’s heart, Maven. He’s been waiting for someone like you for years. He’s always been happy, but now he’s on top of the world.”

his friends (maverick and reid) were great, i enjoyed the scenes of them just hanging out. dallas’ daughter was ADORABLE. i also really liked the girl maven used to work with on the field (cassidy) that also dated a player on the team (jett). and the girl (avery) who’s supposed to be dallas’ friend (reid) nemesis. she wasn’t really present, but she was mentioned few times (and finally appeared at the end) and i believe reid and avery are going to get their own book, so it was just a little fun thing to put in the book. i think.

and with all those good things you might be thinking if she loved it so much, why didn’t she give this 5 stars, 🙄 so let’s go:
• when they got together i felt like we got to see less and less of june (dallas’ daughter). felt like she was written in a way that was just very easy to put aside as the book progressed.
• honestly, this was just nothing new to me. while being good, it also felt pretty standard. very solid, but standard.
• at the end of the book the whole thing with him being sure that he will figure out the way out of the situation felt kind of naive to me. boy you didn’t have any plan. honestly, both you and her, so it felt kind of meh. because them being found out was just a matter of time.

This book - ugh where do I even begin.

First off, Chelsea killed it. I have no doubt people are going to LOVE this book. There is so much love packed into this book and I just adore Dallas, Maven & June.

My favorite part of Chelsea’s books is how easily you can feel the love between the characters and this one was no exception!
Dallas & Maven will have you giggling and kicking your feet one minute and tearing up the next (in a good way of course)

This one is definitely a slow burn, but I promise you it is so so worth it. This book is HOT 🥵

Anyway, I can’t even fully explain my love for this book & Chelsea so as I say every time I read a book by her just do yourself a favor and read it!!

I’m so so excited for what Chelsea has in store this year and I have no doubt big things are coming her way because she DESERVES IT!!!!!

I loved this book and I’m obsessed. The book was huge but now I wanted more of it 🥹 I might dare to say I’m obsessed 😍

Maven is incredible and maybe one of my favorite characters I’ve read. I loved to see her find happiness, love and her purpose in life 🫶🏻

Dallas was perfection. He would do anything for Maven and for their relationship. One of my favorite book boyfriends 🫶🏻

June was amazing too and I’m now obsessed with their little family

The book had all the tropes I loved like sports romance and single dad x nanny. But also my favorite trope in this book was the fact that they went from friends to lovers, it was so incredible and I missed reading a very good well written friends to lovers 🥹

Also the communication in this book and the fact that there’s no third act breakup >>>> 😍😩

Even though this is the third book of the series and the first I read of the series and by this author, I had so much fun and I’m really excited for Maverick and Reid’ stories 😩 But I’ll check eventually the two previous books of this series

Thank you to Love Notes PR and Chelsea Curto for an opportunity to receive this book as an ARC and in return to give my honest rating and review 🫶🏻

Easily a 5 star read — hands down — no hesitation, whatsoever.

Chelsea, you really delivered here. Everything that I love about reading and the feelings that come with were all within this book.

In this story, we are introduced to 22-year-old Maven Wood, a former soccer player and an aspiring sports photographer, and Dallas Lansfield, a 30-year-old NFL star for the Titans.

Dallas is a single dad who has not had any luck finding a nanny for his adorable 4-year-old daughter, June… until Maven, quite literally, stumbles into his life.

I love everything about this book:
• single dad x nanny trope
• sports romance
• slow burn
• flirty banter
• found family
• extremely filthy-mouthed MMC & FMC

I had high expectations going into this as my first ARC review and those expectations were exceeded. I laughed, I cried, I giggled, screamed into my pillow and kicked my feet.

Behind the Camera, book 3 in the Love Through a Lens Series, by Chelsea Curto was released on March 19th and I promise you’ll love every moment in this wonderful book and the others that come before it.

What a perfectly swoony sports romance. If you love the single dad x nanny trope, this one does it pretty perfectly.

I really loved getting to see Maven all grown up and follow on her journey as she discovers a new passion in life (sports photography) after a knee injury ended her soccer career. Her relationship with her parents and godparents is just as strong and that sense and community makes the world so rich and inviting.

Dallas is a star punter and multi-Super Bowl champ, but more importantly he's June's father. June is Dallas' while world and as she's getting older and with his demanding schedule, he realizes he needs help. His dedication to his daughter is so admirable unconditional and really shows his core values well.

Maven and Dallas' relationship starts as friends and slowly develops into something more. The banter and flirting builds until the sparks combust and they can't help the attraction even though it threatens their jobs. But it's so we'll paced and set up your yearning for them to be together as much as the characters are. Another amazing win from Chelsea Curto.

I received a copy of the book from Love Notes PR in exchange for an honest review.

4.5⭐️ Loved this so much! I didn't think I would love it as much as Caught on Camera, but Chelsea's books just keep getting better and better! If you want an age-gap, single dad x nanny sports romance, with great banter and loveable side characters (who may be getting their own stories...), then this is the book for you! I am so excited for the next books in this series!

Thank you to @chelseacurto and Love Notes PR for the ARC! All opinions are my own!
