I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is the second book in the Scottish Witches cosy mysteries series, and I enjoyed the first book, so I was looking forward to it.

When I first started reading this, I wasn't too sure about the protagonist, Penny. On first impressions, she seemed a little bit full of herself and unlikeable. As I carried on reading though, I began to see her differently - it seemed she was actually a kind-hearted, warm person with a difficult past.

The theme of beauty and love potions was something I found entertaining, as I think many of us may wonder what the results might be, if we used one.

I was also pleased to see the return of Dessie as a character, as I really liked her in the first book.

This was a fun read for the most part, but the one thing that disappointed me a little was the ending - I thought it was a little bit sad.

Thank you to Booksirens and the author for a free copy to review.

I quite enjoyed the first book of the series, and I was prepared to enjoy this one, too. I didn’t realize this would feature a different main character, but I didn’t mind at all. I remember Penny of course from the first book, and at first, I wasn’t sure I was going to like her. However, it didn’t take long for her to grow on me, and not only that, but we also get an engaging plot to keep us on our toes. I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen next especially because I’m pretty sure a certain leader witch is a lot more than we know! A well-written, fun, engaging, cozy paranormal sure to please fans of the genre. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

Such a pretty witch.

Finding a fairy in her rose garden, oh wait, it really isn't a fairy but a young girl who is pregnant!

Penny is a herb specialist witch. She uses this cosmetically, but learns she can use her talent for other causes. She opens up her heart and takes in strays… and protects them, or the other way around. She also learns that there are people immune to her masks. This is a very detailed story where Penny and her friends save Pari and discover a lot about themselves in the mean time. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Enjoying this series.

This is book 2 of the series but with a different main character. This book revolves around Penny, whom many in town dislike. In the beginning, she is not that likable but as I got to know her better, my opinion improved.

This was a fun, easy paranormal cozy to read. I’m really enjoying this series. The characters are well written and I like the idea of each book focusing on a different character but still having the others make an appearance. The books are different but still connected.

I want to thank BookSirens and Felicity Green for a copy of this book.

Summary: Penny Reid is known in town for only caring about herself. Even though she is a member of a historic and powerful coven in the Scottish Highlands, she uses her powers for personal gain at almost every turn. However, when she stumbles upon a young woman in her herb garden her life is turned upside-down. As Penny tries to learn what has the young woman on the run, she might learn some things about herself along the way.

Thoughts: I enjoyed the first book in the series and thought that I would give the next book a try. Overall I enjoy Green's writing as I was enraptured by both of the books so far in the series. I did enjoy this book a bit more than the first because it focused on Penny a bit more than The Witch Club did with Andie.

I did appreciate Penny's character arc throughout the book as we learned a great deal about her past and insecurities as well as her witch abilities. I think that the unravelling of Penny's history was heartbreaking and so important to her character development. It was also interesting to see the juxtaposition of Penny's personal history with Faye's throughout the book.

I enjoyed Faye less as a character. She had some shining moments throughout the book, particularly toward the end. However, for the first half of the book, she feels very passive and then in the second half of the book it feels a bit like she explodes. Now, I do agree with her that what Penny and Fionna do at the beginning of the book is not okay and Faye has every right to be angry about that but I'm not entirely sure if Faye just reaches a tipping point and that's what is driving her behaviour in the second half of the book or she's just over other people. Given what has happened to her I can understand that, but it just felt a little jarring that she is blaming all of the people who are trying to help her all of the sudden.

I did love how Green wove everything together at the end. I thought that was beautifully written and one of the best parts of the book.

I could have given or taken the romance elements of this book. They weren't bad or out of place throughout the book, but I also didn't feel like they added anything either. I think that the real love story is happening within Penny and the outside romance was just extra and a bit of a device to drive the plot.

Overall, a captivating mystery book that had me hooked.

I received an ARC of this book, which does not affect my review. Thank you to the author and Booksirens for the chance to read this book.

Even though this book follows a side character from the last book, Penny, instead of Dessie and Andie, we still get to return to the characters we love and know! If the rest of the series follows the different witches, I am excited for it. Immediately I liked Penny, even if it is clear she is flawed. I couldn’t help it. She is certainly not meant to be likable at first, but that only makes me more interested in a character. When they are written well, I find myself enjoying them more than the easy to like characters, and Penny was written well. She can be blunt and insensitive, which has alienated her from the rest of the coven, but beneath her exterior, she hides past wounds. She also has a deeply caring side to her, which she demonstrates when she welcomes in Faye, a young pregnant woman who is overcome with fear about the baby she is carrying.

I loved how the mystery and the characters evolved in this book. Penny grows slowly but surely, but her blunt nature never changes, yet her caring side shines through. Like we followed Andie and Dessie in the last book, in this book, we also follow Pari, whose true identity is done very well. I especially loved the message of women protecting women. I already like stories about witches and covens, and have been growing to like them even more lately, because of the sisterhood. In Herb Witch For Hire, Penny not only grows closer to sisters who she was previously not liked by, but the women come together to protect another woman. That was my favorite part of the book and it was done well, a major reason why it earned my five stars. The ending also makes it clear there is more to this series, and the part about Juniper made my eyes water!

I was also glad to get to know Fionna better in this story, alongside Penny (and Pari) of course, and I am eager to get to know her further in the next. I enjoy this series, and it would be perfect for such a wide range of readers. There is enough to stimulate the minds of adults but also nothing too graphic so that younger readers can read it too. I would highly recommend it, the entire series.

This is the second book in the series but can be read as a standalone because the author provides several details of the first book for the general understanding of witches' relations.

This part is about Penny - an herb witch - who finds herself in an interesting situation. One day she comes home and in her garden there is a pregnant girl of a foreign descent crying. Now, Penny is not known to be kind and caring, so it surprises even her that she wants to help the girl, whom she decides to call Faye. From this day the events get incredibly bizarre.

What I liked:

1. the story. It was so crazy, that I flew through the pages to find out what her secret was. A lot is going on there - an insane prophecy, intriguing mystery, dark magic rituals, Penny's journey to her true self, and lots of action.

2. details. I liked that I got to see more about different kinds of magic - especially the dark one - it was amazing to read about the atmosphere and aesthetics of witches performing their rituals.

3. the characters. I liked both - Pari (Faye's real name) and Penny. Both of them surely met for a reason. The author did a great job showing how these characters transformed throughout the book and why they needed each other. Penny surely made some mistakes, but she took responsibility for her actions and tried to mend everything, she also for once was not afraid to ask for help from other witches and appear weak (that's her biggest fear) so this is admirable. It was also nice to see the head witch Mrs MacDonald from a different side.

Overall opinion: a great continuation of the series! The book is well-written and full of action and magic rituals. If you enjoy paranormal mysteries, intriguing plots, and likable characters - then definitely check this book out!

Penny's journey in the second installment of the Scottish Witches Mystery series is nothing short of captivating. The depth of her character and the skillful storytelling had me completely immersed in her world. There were moments throughout the book that evoked such strong emotions in me that I found myself shedding tears. With twists and turns aplenty, Penny's actions, driven by good intentions, sometimes lead to unexpected consequences. However, the satisfying resolution at the end leaves readers on a positive note.

One of the most rewarding aspects of the story is witnessing Penny's growth—from a self-absorbed individual to someone capable of genuine care and compassion for others. As she navigates the challenges she faces, we see her evolve in remarkable ways.

In this installment, magic takes on a more prominent role, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the narrative. The story is primarily told through Penny's perspective, offering readers a unique insight into her thoughts and motivations. Her determination to protect 'Faye' and her unborn child, even resorting to black magic if necessary, drives the plot forward, resulting in a harrowing yet thoroughly enjoyable tale.

Overall, this book is a testament to the author's talent for crafting compelling characters and gripping narratives. I was thoroughly engrossed in Penny's story from beginning to end and eagerly await the next installment in the series.

I have really enjoyed this series and love the world that the author has created for us, where magic is real and affects each of the holders of the gift differently. Penny is a herb witch who had to grow up fast and take care of herself since her mother died when Penny was 14. While Penny seems to have everything together, as we embark on this journey with her we get to see her slowly let down her masks and we see how much of that is just another illusion.

When Penny finds a pregnant teenager in her rose garden, she does everything in her power to help the young girl, who is too scared to even give Penny her name, so Penny refers to her at Faye. When a stranger shows up at a local bed and breakfast, who seemingly is immune to Penny's charms, he sets in motion a set of choices that shows how far Penny will go to protect Faye and her unborn child. Even some that are morally questionable.

While I enjoyed this book, and this series, the main characters are not always likeable, which is something that I don't normally enjoy. In many ways we are watching an enemy-to-lovers series, where the enemy is both sides of the same person. And, of course, as the main character works on themselves, they meet a potential significant other. Which is different from most cozy mysteries where the relationship takes center stage.

All in all, this series is well-crafted (pun-intended) and I can't wait to read the next installment. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Penny Reid is an herb witch, but she does have a legitimate business. She's found that she makes more income with the other side of her business of oils and lotions and crystals. She's at the market when a young man comes to ask her help with a love potion but she sells him something totally different She returns to her isolated home in the Scottish Highlands. She knew at 18 what she wanted. She walking among her flowers when she hears a sound. She finds a young woman who reminds her of a fairy. She invites inside and notices that the young woman, Faye as she decided to call her, looks like she's scared and running from someone. So she asks her brother, Declan, a police officer, to see if he can find anything on her. So far nothing. As Faye is helping Penny with her herbs she tells her something about her baby and a prophecy. Oh dear what has she gotten herself into? So she goes to her sort of friend, Fionna, and is given a book that may write a recent event in Faye's thoughts.
Then a man comes asking questions about Faye. Penny tries to get him to pay full attention to her but it fails. He is immune to her spells and charm. How humiliating. Things are coming to a head and it looks like Faye is in deep trouble. Will Penny be able to protect her?
This a fantastic edition in this series!!.

Penny is a witch. A beautiful witch. A beautiful, narcissistic, selfish witch. We saw her briefly in the first Scottish Witches Mysteries. She uses her powers to make spells and potions and sells them for a profit. She is good at what she does. She also uses them to make herself beautiful and has a tendency to use her looks to get whatever she wants.

When a young, pregnant girl shows up in her herb garden, it totally throws her for a loop. For the first time ever, she wants to help someone else. She takes the young girl in and tries to get her to open up about what it is she's running from, but the girl isn't talking.

Penny taps into the magic of her coven sisters to figure out what is going on and keep the girl safe. She learns that the girl, Pari (who she has named Faye after a fairy) is running from the father of her unborn baby. Pari is convinced her baby is the devil. She and her coven sisters engage in all kinds of things, good and bad to keep Pari and the baby safe.

I like how we see the characters from the previous books come back. I am looking forward to reading more. Each book focuses on a different which. I want to read the one about Mrs. McDonald. I think there is a lot more there than what meets the eye.

This is the second book in the Scottish Witches Mysteries series and as I liked the first book, I was intrigued about reading the next one. You can definitely read this one as a standalone, as there is enough detail provided by the author about what happened previously.

I didn't like the main character Penny in the beginning. She seemed to care only about herself. On first impressions, she seemed a little bit full of herself and unlikeable. The more I was into the book, the more I learned about her and changed my mind. And there was Dessie again! Yay!

The story was crafted with such imagination! I was hooked on secrets, prophecies and mysterious magic rituals. The overall atmosphere was rather dark. But on the other hand, there were also funny and entertaining moments, while thinking about beauty and what it means to love.

Penny - a herb witch - is suddenly taking care of a young pregnant foreigner. She names her Faye and hops on a weird adventure.

Herb Witch for Hire is a well-written book and a great next installment in the series! The book is filled with action and magic rituals and if you enjoy paranormal stories and intriguing plots, give this book a chance.

Herb Witch for Hire by Felicity Green is a delightful and engaging fantasy novel that successfully blends magic, mystery, and a touch of romance. The story centers on Penny Reid, an herb witch who runs a legitimate herbal remedies business by day and dabbles in magical potions on the side. Penny leads a solitary life in a small Scottish village, perfectly content with looking after only herself. That is, until a mysterious visitor arrives one day, turning her world upside down and setting her on a path she never expected.

I truly enjoyed reading this book. Green’s writing is witty and lighthearted, with moments of tension that keep the reader hooked throughout the story. What stands out is the well-developed characters, especially Penny’s relationship with her coven sisters and the detective Chris Harris. Their interactions are laced with humor, charm, trust, betrayal, forgiveness, and occasional confrontation, giving the story a lively dynamic. The book also addresses themes like self-acceptance and personal growth.

I warmly recommend it to readers who enjoy urban fantasy, quirky characters, mystery, and a touch of romance. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Suspense, Covens, Witchcraft and a little Black Magic!

Penny, an herb witch appeared at first to be a little selfish, self centered and to concerned about her beauty. She takes in a lost, pregnant teenager who she thought was running away from an abuser. She finds out the pregnant teenager is actually a princess. Faye, who we later find out is actually named Pari, ran away from her parents because of her pregnancy. She has always been secluded away for her own protection. She is the sole heir of a royal family and will inherit the kingdom someday. While at a private school she is seduced by one of her teachers that she falls in love with. He is not who he says he is. He is actually the son of her father’s archenemy. He will stop at nothing to get his hands on Pari and her baby. Lots of twists and turns with the help of a coven of witches to protect Pari from this ruthless man. The sisterhood of the witches all come together to help Pari. Throw in a little black magic and a ghostly visit from a great grandmother, and you have a great read. Penny turns out to realize what she truly is and why she was the way she was before meeting Pari. Oh and also throw in a sexy private detective! Happy reading!

Penny Reid is the most disapproved of witch in the Tarbet coven. She's a herb witch and sees herself as completely independent. The fact that she makes a living from her gift is not popular. Nor that she uses her beauty spells to manipulate men. So when, within 48 hours, she takes in both a sstray cat and a very pregnant homeless young woman, both the village and the coven are shocked and curious.

It turns out that the young woman is deservedly frightened of the consequences of her pregnancy but Penny is determined to do whatever it takes to keep her and the baby safe. When an investigator turns up in the village looking for the runaway, Penny is shocked to her core to find that she cannot influence him with her spells. And the danger just ratchets up.

One way or another, both women will learn that their magic has hidden depths and how best to be their true selves. If they survive.

This is the second of the Scottish Witches series. It was an enjoyable read although I found the timeline within the series a bit confusing.

Many thanks to the author and publisher for the advance copy. This is an independent review.

Penny is a self involved herb witch who never does things for others just because. She always calls in favors from those whom she has helped. One day a strange sliver of a girl is found in her garden. Penny notices she is pregnant, hungry, scared big time about something. Penny takes her in. No one has ever been IN her home, but the harsh heart that is Penny starts to melt and grow in compassion for this mysterious girl. She will not give a name, so Penny names her Faye. Ms. Green has woven a great story where Penny is in an emotional growth. From being isolated, doing beauty spells on herself, being selfish to a woman who is learning about herself and changes in her life she is scared to change. Not half as scared as poor Faye, but, Penny is doing a great job helping Faye. Who is chasing Faye, why does she have to hid? Will Penny be able to protect her? Well, read this magical book to find out!

I'm so excited for you to have found this second in this paranormal cozey mystery series and for you to read it. The array of vibrant ,colorful and quirky characters .The witchy characters are my personal favorites but there are mundanes as well. And of course this wouldn't be a mystery without a deadly schemer lurching somewhere. Yes the mane character will at first draw you in wanting to get to know her better but Penny is only the beginning and yes, she is the heroine, but not the only one as hopefully you'll soon find out yourself. The plot has you enticed and captivated further before you know it through intrigue, magical activities and mystical happenings. I was so entranced from start to finish that I was quite surprised when it seemed all at once I had reached the unexpected and climatic conclusion, time seemed to pass so quickly. Acquire " Herb Witch for Hire " the second in the ( Scottish Witches Mysteries) for hours of magical intrigue and enjoyable entertainment. Kat

Disapointed

I love babies so wanted to love this book. I also was hoping for a good story for Penny. Sadly, this story plays off of shallow stereotypes with little reality supporting it. The writer does not show what it happening, she just says it. For instance, when learning to breastfeed her baby, the writer says. Mrs M showed her how to breastfeed. A good writer would build the story so we know what happened because we could see it. And yet I skipped soooo much of this book because they were long boring needless swaths through it. The final thing that made me give such a low review - the young girl said some HORRIBLE things to Penny. Not just things out of anger but some gut wrenching things that I, as a reader, did not see coming. And she continued to be angry and reject Penny, despite how Penny took care of her. It was just a very disappointing book, even worse than the 1st book. I won't be reading the 3rd.

So the second book in the series does have magic, a lot of it! (I was a little disappointed because the first one didn't have much of it).

This book focuses on Penny, the herb witch who was introduced in the first book as a kind of selfish and self centred witch with hardly any friends.

I was happy to see her grow through the book and face her emotions as well as become the witch she was meant to be.

Another thing I liked about both the first and the second part was the mystery that encompasses the whole book. The book actually made me ask myself, what will happen next and what is Penny going to do.

Really appreciate that the book did not have too many jargons to overcomplicated the book so it was easy to read even when I left it in between.

I liked it much better than the first in the series, and will continue the series.

Having met Penny Reid in the first book of this series, I didn’t really think I’d like her, but Im pleased to say, this was a really good read. When Penny finds a young woman sitting in her garden, she surprises herself,by wanting to look after her, especially when she realises how scared the girl, who she calls Faye, really is, add to that that she’s pregnant, well Penny just can’t help herself.

In this book, we also get to learn more about the coven that Penny belongs to, their abilities, their loyalties and how they all come together when really needed. My only quibble is that I would have liked more details in the way this story finished, one part particularly felt very rushed. That said, i enjoyed this book and shall certainly look for the next in the series.

Everyone thinks Penny is shallow and selfish, and this is an illusion Penny is perfectly happy to allow and even actively promote. But that can be a lonely life and in this book Penny discovers how good it feels to help someone else and also that it's ok for her to ask for help, too.

Of course it's not quite that simple as Penny makes many, many mistakes in her growth journey. And it's not so easy to ask for help when so many people don't like you. But in the end Penny and her fellow coven members learn some important lessons.

But this isn't just some morality story. It's a fast-paced, well-written mystery that grabs your attention and doesn't let go. And the twists just keep coming as good intentions don't always go as planned. Definitely an enjoyable read.

I received a free review copy of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review.

Penny Reid is an herb witch , she’s also evil…well she is good at it , so why did she decide to put evil aside and show some compassion to the lady who thinks she’s withholding the devil’s baby in her baby bump when she came across the girl in Penny’s Rose garden? Showing she’s not all bad Penny takes the mother to be into her home. That alone is a first ! Helping with shelter and her magic to discover the real reason for the child’s fear of whom is in her womb and who put the malicious thoughts in the scared one’s head. What can one solitary witch do to thwart the danger that looms but meet her own doom… can she help without the coven to help this woman with a bun in her oven. . Entertaining story with twists . Well written story. I was forwarded the book and leave a voluntary review

I was fairly surprised when I started reading this and found out it was about Penny - the witch I really didn't care for. However, I never should have had preconceptions about Penny because in this book she shows herself to grow and puts herself out there for another person. This was a very enjoyable read just to see how Penny grows. However, it is a paranormal mystery and those parts were equally as interesting. Trying to take care of "Faye" and help her while making sure no harm comes to her while trying to figure out who's after her is more than a full time job but Penny rises to the occasion. I fully recommend this book and if the rest of the series is anything like this book, I already recommend the series!

HERB WITCH FOR HIRE, #2 - As the story continues, it becomes more and more intriguing and immersing. Interesting story lines mixed with well developed characters made for another interesting read. Black magic for a good cause.

In the second installment in the Scottish Witches Mystery series we see alot more magic and a slightly different format. The story is mostly told to us by Penny, a self absorbed witch that stumbles across a pregnant young woman in her garden who is clearly in trouble. Protecting ‘Faye’ and her unborn baby at all costs, including black magic, becomes Penny’s main objective and it proves to be harrowing but enjoyable tale. There’s also a little hint of a love match that honestly, I could have done without. I felt it took the focus away from Penny discovering that she was indeed what she’d tried to project all along, a strong, resilient woman that could stand on her own.

Reaching Out to Another . . .

Penny Reid, an unlikable herb witch who doesn’t care what others think, will be given an opportunity for change. She has done many things to annoy the coven. But when Penny discovers a pregnant young woman who seems terrified in her rose garden, she makes the decision to befriend and help her. The way she is willing to expose herself to danger on the girl’s behalf to keep her safe really touches the reader’s heart. This is actual growth in Penny’s character when she sincerely acts on another’s behalf like this without expecting compensation. Can she figure out who or what is endangering Faye? Can she put an end to it? Or will it end up costing her more than she could imagine?

Herb Witch For Hire" is a captivating tale of power, redemption, and the blurred lines between good and evil. Penny Reid's character is a refreshing departure from the typical hero, embracing her darker side with unapologetic confidence. As she navigates the treacherous world of magic, readers are drawn into a thrilling journey where every spell cast comes with a price. Reid's masterful storytelling keeps you on the edge of your seat, wondering if Penny's newfound altruism will lead to her salvation or ultimate downfall. With richly drawn characters and a plot filled with twists and turns, "Herb Witch For Hire" is a spellbinding read that lingers long after the final page.

Loved the ending!

Penny Reid used her magic to get what she wanted in life. A beauty spell brought men to their knees but she kept her heart safe from all of them. Other witches disliked her for profiting off her magic selling potions and spells but Penny didn't care about anyone except herself until she found a girl crying in her rose garden. A very pregnant, frightened girl. She found herself wanting to help her and started a perilous chain of events that would involve the entire coven.

This is an exciting witchy cozy. I enjoyed how Penny’s attitude began slowly changing as the story progressed. I received a free copy but my review is honest and voluntary

This book is marginally better than the first, if only because I like Penny more than Andie.

But it goes downhill around the halfway point.

It's actually enjoyable to dig into Penny, her relationship with Pari, how she'll stop at nothing. Then the interference of these witches not liking each other begins again.

At this point I don't know why they're even in a coven. Nobody seems to like anybody else, not really, and everyone's a hypocrite.

I give it 2 stars for Penny's personal development, but that's it.

another fantastic book by the same author ,I loved it as much as i loved the 1st book "The Witch club" .the story and genre are both captivating .i won't describe the whole storyline here but that whole different penny with change of emotions where at some point she open herself up was just a wow .The ways young ladies just supported the COVEN leader without much of an argument displayed the trust they had among themselves.

yes at some point it became a little boring but it was back on track pretty soon….

overall it was pretty good a book for fantasy and a mystery reader like me
