The Afterthought

I really liked this book 3.75⭐️
The story is cool and it is a second chance romance.
Ava and Grey been dating for 3 years in high school and are madly in love making plans to leave town and start a life together after graduation. Ava lost her father years ago and has no relationship with her mother who’s a drug addict. Grey comes from a family of gangers where his father is the leader of the Crimson Rose and his older brother is second in command. Little does Ava know that Grey has a very dark side and he wants the gang life to unleash this, but he never told her so she’s completely innocent there. To her absolute shock he out of nowhere breaks up with her the day after their graduation and tells her he doesn’t want anything to do with her anymore and he truly and wholly breaks her heart. She gets so mad that she leaves town IMMEDIATELY. And they don’t see each other for 7 years…… until she gets a call that she has to come back to town because she has a half sister she knew nothing about it that lost her mother and needs a guardian till graduation when she turns 18 otherwise she will have to be put in the system. So she goes back to town dreading the feeling of having to see Greyson and he is NOT the loving boy anymore, he is ruthless, mean, has a reputation and likes to burn people alive.
So obviously I loved it ! 😂
The book is just not rated higher because I hate stupidity when it comes to women. They mentioned many times on the book how strong she is, but Jet actions are nothing but weak, the first time she sees him instead of been the strong one and give him hell, no she immediately folds, and that happens every single time. She keeps saying she will give him hell but then he proceeded to treat her like trash. Until HE decides that she will be his again. Wasn’t her decision and wasn’t her doing anything to prove how strong she was, it was the fact that he truly always loved her and wanted her out of the gang life , he never forgot her and he is still madly in love with her. His groveling is cute and I love how he brings her favorite coffee and a blueberry muffin every single day. I also liked that her relationship with her sister is actually good and not the same story we see when they don’t get along because of this or that. Overall was good.

Nothing like our MMC beating his 🍆 to burning someone alive 😂 okay so Greyson is slightly unhinged and he may have an obsession with fire but he’s also obsessed with his girl and we love that!!

First i thought hmmm a second chance romance not my fave. But was i WRONG!

Greyson was such a perfect book boyfriend everything he did for Avalynn made my heart melt!! (Even the bad things yeah!) and oooh my his dirty mouth! 🥵
Also Avalynn was such a strong FMC and the way she handled finding out about her sister... just amazing!
She's a real badass and i loved it!

KM Baker does it again! Ugh I fell so in love with this and hated having to put it down to get other things done like my job.
First off- I love that KM makes you fall in love with and understand characters without the book being forever long. It’s a great length novel and such an easy read.
Greyson Greyson Greyson- this man could literally do anything and I’d defend him. Our fire obsessed little naughty boy in his gang life were such a cool and sexy angle on an MMC.
The spice was SPICING yall. So hot and steamy and just perfect.
Basically, if you like a Gang and murdery dark romance with a “she’s mine” MMC then this is for you 🖤

**Mind the TW!!**
You will find no heroes here. Greyson is not redeemable. lol But at least he makes up for his past sins with Avalynn. He pushed Ava away in the beginning due to his allegiance to the Crimson Rose, but when she comes back, he eventually gives in to the magnetic pull between the two of them and chases after her. I like how Ava makes him work for it. She is affected by their physical contact, but she doesn't open her heart back up right away. I kept waiting for the side characters to turn out as the traitor, but I'm glad it was who it was because I wanted Ava to have genuine people surrounding her.
Speaking of, the side characters are pretty cool. We get to see a sisterly relationship develop with Chloe, and I love that Chloe learns to give Ava a chance and Ava knows how to help Chloe work through her grief . Even Knox impressed me in the end.
Grey and Ava get a second chance and burn up these pages! Pun intended ;)

first I would like to thank K.M. Baker for sending me the ARC for this book. this is my second book by her and it was sooooo worth the read. I absolutely loved Greyson and his messed up ways. I just love it when the MMC is a bit unhinged but has a soft spot for his lady🤭 as for Ava, I loved her as well. she handled everything so well and she is just such a strong character. I love the way K.M. Baker writes her characters so much. also, the spice? yeah, the spice was spicing!!! this was such a good read.

Another great book from K.M. Baker! I loved it! It was soooo good! Greyson is unhinged and obsessive. Only he is allowed to touch Ava. She belongs to him. And no one else. Also Grey’s dirty mouth is 🥵🔥🔥. Ava is strong and independent, I really loved that about her. The storyline was really good! There was great spice and parts of the story had me on the edge of my seat! I enjoyed every minute of it!

i ate this book uppppp , LIKE HUHHHH. i am not the biggest fan of second chance romance , but this one delivered. i absolutely loved the way greyson literally did anything and everything to make sure ava was his. please , the way he would bring her fav coffee order and blueberry muffin to her everyday & if he wasn’t able to , he’d have someone take it to her. BYE & THE TATTOO OVER HIS HEART ??? DECEASED. the twist and stuff being revealed had me GAGGED.
ava- i felt so bad for her , she literally had nothing and was struggling. her parents were both gone , only for her to discover she has a half sister that was kept a secret from her father. i loved watching their relationship grow through the book. they both needed each other without even knowing it. i also loved how she was like don’t talk to me or get away from me , so me.
greyson- bye this man was crazy. a literal pyromaniac who was in love with the flame. at first , he was an ass , i was like why tf is he being so mean to her. but he grew on me throughout the book, and the way he LITERALLY burned shit down for her , BYEEE. something about this man , made me float into the orbit plsssssss

I read this book as an arc read and loved every second of it.
Ava and Grey planned to spend their life together, until Grey suddenly dumps her, without so much as an explanation. Ava is understandably devastated, and decides to leave Dune Valley and start again somewhere new, to get away from all the bad memories that surrounded her. Having lost her father, and her mother being a drug addict, she had nothing to stay for. She trains to become a P.I, and lives comfortably, trying to forget about the heartbreak that she suffered, until she receives a call from the Police Station back home, telling her that she has a half sister, and has been put down as her legal guardian. Ava is shocked because she never wanted to return to Dune Valley, but knows that she can’t neglect this girl, so agrees to return and help her.
Grey is part of the Crimson Rose gang, and is the right hand man to his brother, the head of the gang. He is the muscle, and the guy that gets called when they need information to be extracted from a suspect, using any means necessary. He has a love for fire, and enjoys watching things and people burn, and is very talented at what he does.
When he realised that Ava has returned to Dune Valley, he becomes consumed with thoughts of her, and wants to claim her as his again. He’s been wracked with guilt about the way things ended and wants to make things right, but Ava isn’t so keen. She wants nothing to do with him.
It’s when he sees her with the head of the apposing gang, that he ramps up his efforts, but will he be able to win her over again. When things become more dangerous between the gangs and they are both at risk, can they put their differences aside and help each other get through it?
This book is full of tension, passion, heartache and pain.
The storyline is incredible, the plot twists of which there are several are intense and keep you on the edge of your seat. There is a lot of spice, which is incredible, you can feel just how hot Ava and Grey are together, and there are so many emotions throughout this book, that it makes you feel everything that the characters are feeling throughout.
Ava and Grey are incredible characters, and the relationship between them is something really special to read about, but do they get their happy ending??
I would recommend this book to anyone that loves dark romance, mafia style romance, intensity, passion and lots of emotion. Simply amazing ❤️❤️❤️❤️

DNF. It was all just surface and no depth. It seemed lacklustre and I didn’t believe any of the character development. Predictable and boring.

I really enjoyed this book. I love a book with a good psycho and Greyson being a firebug hit the spot. I love that his brother was nice enough to build him a torture shed.
To be fair Greyson thinks he’s doing the right thing when he breaks Avalynn’s heart seven years ago and chooses his family and the crimson rose gang instead of her. I think he genuinely thought getting her away from him was the best thing for her. Boy was he wrong.
Ava left the night he broke her heart and never planned to look back. She doesn’t even return home when her mum dies. It not until she find out that she has a 17 year old sister that needs her that she heads home.
I have to say I didn’t see the plot twist to who Alec actually was in the end. I genuinely thought they were just rival gangs. Go Ava for following her heart and not her head at Chloe’s graduation.
I think my favourite bit had to be when she see the ticket stubs on his chest and then see the extra bit on the actual stub. It was so sweet when he explained it to her or Grey’s romantic/ slightly psychotic gift after his trip to California I loved that.
There is more than enough spice seeing as they have 7 years to make up for and if nothing else the tights industry will never go bankrupt with Grey around.
Check triggers especially when it comes to Grey’s love for fire.
I was lucky enough to get an advance copy after seeing a post on facebook but this is 100% my honest opinion.

i went into this book for my love of dark romance; km baker is a new author to me. this was the very first book i have read of hers and OMG. i had to run to add her other book onto my wishlist because i need to read everything by her. i am in love with the way she wrote this story and the way i felt connected to her characters.
avalynn taking what she went through and using it to make her into a strong women! i loved her growth and the way she handled things till the end of the book. her attitude, very relatable. loved loved loved how much of a badass she became. THAT GIRL.
greyson, love a unhinged mmc who goes above and beyond for HIS GIRL. the fact he has a fire obsession was a plus to me, i feel me being a fire sign made me obsess over this character even more!! he did no wrong in my eyes except for mistakingly leaving my girl ava at the beginning, but no worries he came back for what’s his and he did not disappoint talk about second chances😩

The afterthought was everything I was hoping it would be! I usually don’t love second chance romance, but the way that it was done here I loved!
Greyson is on his groveling journey. Trying to make up for what happened in the past. He’s so sweet and perfect 😭 I wish I had someone to get me coffee and muffins every morning (even if they’re not in town) 🥹.
Ava is the strong FMC I love. She was thrown into a situation she was not prepared for and handle it with grace. While simultaneously, dealing with her own things.. and Greyson lol
Their love is a forever love. The kind a live for 💖

I loved this book! So this was a second chance enemies to lovers romance and I absolutely are the story up. It had such a great plot, I loved the fmc and the different decisions she was making and how her relationship with the mmc progressed throughout the story and how we got the see the character development. The reason for for being a 5 star read though was the MMCs excuse for breaking up with the fmc in the beginning of the book, (don’t want to say too much and spoil) but I felt like his priorities were a little bit misplaced and to me his excuse was bs. Other than that I absolutely loved everything else about him and how he ended up treating the fmc throughout the book and seeing his other softer side.

This was my first KM Baker book and wow wow wow. 1000 stars!
I had no idea what I was going into, I went in completely blind and it did not disappoint. One of the best second chance romances I've read. This man pushed her away, annihilated her heart and never went after her. ( for his own reason which I get) but then when she turns up at the town and he's got this jealous, possessive hold on her... oooo boy you better grovel and grovel he did. This man really stepped up and took accountability for his shit. Its the way he never stopped loving her and the lil things he would do like bring her, her fav coffee order and blueberry muffin Every. Single. Day!!!! like where they do that at. I loved them so much. Not to mention the lil ~present~ he went all the way to Florida to get for her. That man is a keeper <3

This was one fiery book, no pun intended. I loved every minute of it. I totally hate Grey in the beginning, like wanted to kick his booty. Ava was right to build walls around herself when it came to love and letting people in. I loved all the twists, the secrets and love that was so strong it couldn’t be denied. The side characters were great Chloe was a breath of fresh air. I look forward to more, if there is more lol

I enjoyed the book, I liked it but it wasn’t life changing. Plot was good. Good spice. I just found the the FMC annoyed me a little bit same with the MMC and I wish there was a bit more angst between them. I feel like he hardly worked for it especially since it’s a second chance. Also felt there was a lot of build up but it always fell flat. Not sure if it’s writing style but just thought it fell a bit flat. I don’t fully understand why it’s called The Afterthought though 🤷♀️

Once he decided he wanted her, I fell in love! Even when he still thought he didn’t want her around, I loved seeing how he couldn’t stop himself from caring when he saw Ava’s scars. The connection was so powerful that even though they both wanted to, neither of them could deny it! Both the plot and spice were amazing! The plot twist with Alec was just 🤯🤯 My jaw literally dropped! I absolutely LOVED this book, but I knew I would! 1000% recommend 🖤

This is a dark romance, full of tw's. The MMC Greyson is an obsessed, possessive morally grey, anti hero gang member and the FMC Ava whom I personally loved, is strong and firey.
Another great book by K.M Baker, I was lucky to be part of her arc group. 👏 🖤

This story will bring your emotions on one heck of a roller coaster; up, down, sideways, all the feels. You'll start off hating Grey and loving the mystery man, but then you'll start second guessing everything too.
I loved the characters in this story so much and each of them were so relatable and easy to make connections with! Ava has grown into such an amazing person after everything she's been dealt with and then even more so when Chloe is in the picture!
Grey, oh Grey...something about this man just lights a fire within me 😉 pun intended. I cannot believe the man he turns out to be...
I loved loved loved the epilogue, it was the most beautiful way to wrap up this story!

Ava and grey! The plot was thick and the smutt was soo good! I had a hard time putting this down! This book has drama, life’s lessons, coping and learning to grow! The way this man LOOOVVEESS her but is so unforgiving with everyone else has me obsessed with Greyson 😍 this book was unlike anything I have read and I so glad I got to read this as an ARC! KM Baker never disappoints with her books. I cannot wait for everyone else to be able to read this!!
