Burry The Hatchette: A Sordid South Tale

Rate this book
“Andrea Hatchette, a woman after my own soulless void of a heart. Will you do me the honor of being my wife?”
Lots of women dream of moments like this. A calm evening. A party on the lake surrounded by her family and friends. A handsome, rich, educated man asking for their hand in marriage in the middle of a fancy-ass yacht with a big-ass ring. Except for Andrea. Marrying her lifelong enemy, Nathaniel Burry, is her worst nightmare. Still, she knows she has no other choice if she doesn't want to be disowned and thrown from the company she helped build. She supposes there could be worse fates than marrying a billionaire. Right?

Meanwhile, Nat has a plan. Being forced to take a wife isn't the picture of peace he had five years previous, but he's willing to make the best of it with Andrea. After all, even villains deserve happy endings. Can these two find middle ground and make it work, or will they drown in a storm of their own creation?

lots of loving, smart-mouthed retorts & lots and lots of hunching. also a bit of murdering and dismembering? but i'm not mad at it. 😅 things started speeding up towards the end, i enjoyed the beginning more but still a great read.

Cinnamon Roll Psycho

Give me two people who are obsessed with each other in a borderline toxic way, bonus points if he’s an unhinged boss with unaliver tendencies who turns into a cinnamon roll for his wife/girl and I will be the happiest little bug in rug!! This is one of the funniest enemies to lovers I have read. Daze gives you a sort of mafia romance romcom, with good banter, outrageous situations, good relationship development, swoon worth moments, and good spicy. I would have personally enjoyed if we got to the subplot conflict sooner so it could have been given more time, but overall I thoroughly enjoyed this read.

Baby Doll and Boogie

I want to start by saying I love the Plot and the characters. Andrea was so funny and I love the fact that she brought the same energy in the relationship with Nate. I really loved the first 50% of this book because I loved the relationship that was building between Andrea and Nate. The last 50% of the book was just ok. The part when Andrea was chasing the lookalike kind of threw me off. Overall book is a solid read.

Oh girl.

This was pure shenanigans and tomfoolery and I was ALL IN!!!! Andrea and Nathaniel were a mess and a half but gahhhhhhleeeeee they pulled me in. I love Enemies to Lovers, so this was right up my alley and damn if they didn't meet my expectations. The chemistry was strong between them and the build-up to their HEA was one that had me invested. The spice was oooooooooooweeeeeeeeee🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

The pacing of the plot was done well - there were only a couple of time jumps but they were explained and it helped from having to go through tedious details that could've easily bogged the narrative. I also liked the development of the MCs throughout their revelations and tribulations; it was also nice to see how supportive and encouraging most of the secondary characters were to this couple (heyyyyy Glory, Cash, & Frankie!!). Although I'm generally not a fan of third-act breakups or skirmishes, I understand why they had to happen and why they happened the way they did in the context of this book (heed the CWs listed in the book).

I wholeheartedly recommend this and cannot wait for Aria's next book.

Thank you to Aria Daze for providing an eARC in exchange for my honest review💚

I’m so sad!

If you're looking for a book that will captivate you from start to finish, Aria Daze’s latest novel is the one to pick up. I truly enjoyed every moment of this read and felt a pang of sadness as it came to an end. Aria Daze never disappoints, and this book speaks to the original style that I adore from her. There's no author I'm more eager to chat with than Aria Daze.

Even though it took me a bit of time to finish due to my busy schedule, I'm so glad I carved out the time to dive deep into this book. It was worth every minute. The nuanced characters are what I've come to expect from Aria Daze. Watching them grow up together, transforming from enemies to lovers, was beautifully done. The tension and romance were spot on. And let’s not forget the spicy honey!! 🌶️🥵🌶️🌶️🥵

One aspect I appreciated was the resolution of family dynamics. While I felt this could have been fleshed out a bit more, perhaps it's just me wishing the book was longer. Aria Daze has a knack for creating a world where characters from different books interweave seamlessly, making the universe feel rich and connected. It’s always a warm, fuzzy feeling to see familiar faces pop up in new stories.

And that twist at the end!!! I did not see it coming. It was a brilliant way to bring awareness to themes not often explored in this genre. While it gave off Mafia Romance vibes, it also added depth and a unique perspective to the story.

In conclusion, this book was a fantastic read that kept me engaged throughout. If you’re a fan of well-developed characters, intricate plots, and unexpected twists, you won’t want to miss this one.

3.5 stars ⭐️

What would you do if you were suddenly told you had one month to marry your enemy in order to save the family business or risk being cut off? Sounds like a wild scenario, right? Well, that's exactly the situation Andrea and Nathanial found themselves in. It hit Andrea differently though LOL! Despite their deep-rooted animosity towards each other, there was an undeniable attraction that led to a rollercoaster journey from enemies to lovers. The banter between them was off the charts, adding a playful dynamic to their relationship. As the facade of hatred crumbled and vulnerability seeped in, both Andrea and Nathanial revealed their true selves, showing just how intense and passionate they could be, especially when it came to each other. Their over-the-top antics and undeniable chemistry made for a captivating read, filled with drama and desire.
I enjoyed the supporting characters. They added humor and heart to the storyline. While the premise of the book was entertaining, I did find the writing to be a bit choppy and the storyline became confusing. I found myself asking “where is she going with this?”. Overall, "Burry the Hatchette” is a decent read for fans of chaotic, passionate couples who won’t slack on the shenanigans. A copy of an ARC was provided in exchange for an honest review

You know how they say not to judge a book by its cover? Well, this is that book. I thought this was going to be a cute romcom, but baby, this was unhinged to its fullest potential.

Let me say, I laughed from the first page of this book and enjoyed it.

Andrea was funny from the opening scene.

I hated her dad but enjoyed her sister and the little glimpse of her mom we did get.

Although I liked the book, it did not come without its flaws.

The voice thing with Nat confused me because I didn't really understand the "why" behind it. Sometimes, he was written like a woman (his words of choice)

The book held my attention the first 50ish%, but it lost me somewhere along the way. By 80%, I found myself scrolling through pages. I felt that it didn't need to be as long as it was, but it was still missing some pieces to the puzzle.

Even with that, it was a solid read, and I do plan on reading Alise's book.

Aria’s pen game is like no other

I loved everything about this. I can’t tell you the last time I laughed this hard. These two were meant for one another and balanced each other out so well. Just out here taming the other 😇 Don’t let me find my own Boogie cause baby…I would thrive in the toxicity. Just over here starting ish cause do you know who my husband is??🤣

Kay was an idiot for sure, instead of trying to sow discourse she should have been trying to see if they need a third 😅. That’s what I would have done 🤷🏾‍♀️

I loved the mental heath rep 🙌🏾. We all need a little help sometimes so thank you Aria for showing that

If you’re looking for an enemies to lovers story with an amazing plot, freak nasty scenes, comedy, and characters you will fall for then go ahead and check out Burry the Hatchette

Enjoyed this book!

This is a story of enemies to lovers who grow closer via an arranged marriage. Boogie & Andrea have known each other since they were kids. They’ve both dealt with traumatic events throughout their lives. Boogie is a murderous teddy bear who suffers from mental issues due to his upbringing and lifestyle. He’s done things that causes him to have nightmares. Andrea has her own trauma that she’s dealing with as well. I love that even though the story has killing and vulnerability, there’s still humor laced throughout it. The characters have each other’s backs on their chaotic journey, face their demons and reach their ultimate happy ending. Definitely worth reading.

Burry the Hatchette

Mannnn I absolutely love this book for real. This is my first time reading from this author but hopefully I can find other reads because I know Cousin Cash, Frankie and Glory have to have a story but back to Nat and Dre. These two were crazy separate but it's like when they got together the connection was different. They definitely had their hate to love story but I feel like it wasn't really hate. I am pretty sure he would take up for her no questions asked as she did for him. They had their ups and downs but it's like they grew stronger and better. This was just an overall good book!!

More than I could ever ask for!

I am an enemies to lovers gurl for sure but this book!! Truly was a work of art, love, and blooming connection between Boogie and Andrea! I didn’t even want to sleep to put this book down! Nat was so multidimensional, his layers just kept coming and never let up! His vulnerability and expression of love was so refreshing! You had me in those last 100 pages. I was so torn up I was ready to cry! I’m truly going to miss them! I might have to reread just to get a little more of their love! An amazing book!

I love me some Andrea and Boogie. Even though Boogie is extremely unhinged he found a way to love through Andrea and it was so beautiful to watch . And he was a nasty man and you know how we liked that!. The trigger warnings gave me pause, but I should’ve known I would be fine because Aria she would take care of me as an audience member. She is talented and just as important, she is so thoughtful and caring. Chile, she could take me whenever she wanna go and I’ll follow, stories and in real life. I’m very grateful for her.

Never judge a book by its cover. I mean, I generally do and I would not have selected this book based on the cover if it wasn’t recommended. The cover gives the YA vibe. However, it’s not that. the trope is semi saucy enemies to lovers/ forced marriage. It’s a decent read and I enjoyed how the relationship between Boogie and Baby Doll developed. I loved her spirit and they way she did fight to save her husband in the end.

Aria doesn’t again!

First off, Nate was a wild boy!! This book is a mix of enemies to lovers, with a forced marriage, and a super horny MMC. I enjoyed the banter between Nate & Andrea and i love that the relationship blossomed even though they absolutely got on each other’s nerves. And it was so good to see Glory, Cash and Frankie make an appearance, I totally wasn’t expecting that. Looking forward to reading book 2 when it comes out!

read it!

This book was so good! Perfect mix of drama, humor, action and romance. Ive read books where I had to skim through parts because they were repetitive or boring…but not this book. It is a little outlandish in parts but the author states that so the reader is expecting it. I really didnt want the book to end. Love the main characters and seeing their relationship unfold. I took off one star because there were some typos and noticeable errors. But still would recommend.

I really enjoyed this book. 4 stars just because while I understand suicide is a serious topic istg the lead up and just whole situation to me was hilarious and that was unfortunate lol also some transitional issues like maybe there should have been a little graphic or something to separate certain scenes from one another but all together it was a very entertaining read

Worth the slow start

I’m not even gonna lie usually things happen in the beginning of her book to catch me right away, but that didn’t happen, and I almost put the book down. But I’m so glad that I didn’t because as soon as I hit chapter 5 it got crazy crazy in a good way..
next is candy corn curses.

I enjoyed this book much. Nathaniel has so many pet names and I think they are all warranted because I don't think I've ever read a MMC with so many layers before. This is some-what a true enemies to lovers story that takes you on a wild ride. There are so many different , triggering subject matters but they do not linger.

I'm so happy the author added the note in the beginning that this book was total fiction and fantasy. I need so many other authors to do that with their stories when the shit is just some crazy, unrealistic, stretch off the imagination type of shenanigans. It helps me finish the book.

With that said, this man is a fucking NUT and she's a little off too hell

Very Good Book

I love that the book was a little different than most enemies to lovers stories. The character development was definitely on point. It was engaging and intriguing s as t the same time. It was however a little too long though. However, I still enjoyed it.

Bravo sis 👏🏿🙌🏿

The way you write is like magic sis. It’s beautiful, the way the words always jump off the book and play out in my heads is mind blowing. When I read your books I see the characters like they are in a movie. I love your stories. They are magical.🫶🏿🪄🪄🪄
