* Capo is a standalone that can be followed without reading anything prior. However, Frank, CeCe, Buck, and Queen were introduced to readers in the Property of a Rich N*gga series, where the ending of this book was already written and set in stone. *
It was Frank’s destiny to become a boss. Having been raised by a kingpin, Frank was groomed to follow in his footsteps. Stanley had begun to teach Frank the game when he was only ten years old, but love was never part of the curriculum.
When CeCe met Frank, she was drawn to him like a moth to a flame. She thought their love would last forever. Even though her mother hated him, CeCe fell in love with Frank Disciple. He showered her with any and everything her heart desired, but the one thing she needed from him, money couldn’t buy.
Buck, Frank's long-time right hand, had his own unconventional ways he inherited from Stanley. As a pimp, Buck prefers the triad he’s made a home with, but his unconventional lifestyle clashes combatively with Queen. For years, they constantly bumped heads. But one fateful moment forces Queen to have his back, leading them both to see each other in a new light. But they can’t react to their feelings for one another because they both belong to someone else.
As Frank fights for a second chance with CeCe, he finds himself entangled in the struggle to maintain the empire he has inherited. Despite his efforts to keep things running smoothly, his distro is determined to push him into increasingly difficult situations, forcing him to navigate treacherous territory where every decision could have dire consequences.
As the lines between love and loyalty blur, this standalone unfolds into a gripping tale of second chances and enemies to lovers. Will Frank and CeCe find their way back to each other, and can Buck and Queen overcome their differences to feed the fire burning between them?

“I love you more than I did yesterday. And less than I will tomorrow.”
Because this book was written after the “Property of a Rich N*gga” series, I was conflicted with falling in love with this book because I knew the ending from the very first page of this read. Despite that, I enjoyed the beginnings of Frank, CeCe, Buck and Queen.
After the untimely demise of their mentor, Buck and Frank found themselves thrown into a drug organization they were now in charge of. At barely twenty one years old, they found themselves touching more money than they could spend in several lifetimes. Looking for a weekend getaway, Frank and Buck ended up at the infamous Freaknik and it was there that Frank and CeCe fell hard and fast for each other. His instinctive desire to care and protect CeCe was instant and from the moment their paths crossed they became inseparable.
Buck and Queen’s relationship was definitely unique. Bucks lifestyle as a pimp created Ill feelings within Queen and she was not with Bucks foolishness. They started out as enemies but after Buck came to Queens rescue and she simultaneously put her foot down Buck allowed this young firecracker to change his ways and redefine everything he thought he knew about love and relationships.
Their paths individually and as a unit were not easy but they were the most solid group of friends and when it was time to show up, no questions were asked.
I wish CeCe and Tiffany wouldn’t have lost touch! They were sooo close and I would’ve loved to see that friendship continue to flourish. I also wish so many women in the book weren’t encouraging CeCe to remain weak in the knees for Frank when they were going through their disconnect. Just because you stayed and put up with foolish doesn’t mean you encourage the next woman to do the same 🫤……
Anywho idk if it was better or worse reading the series before this book……still undecided! Regardless of which you indulge in first I highly recommend you add all four books to your TBR if you’re looking for a really good urban read that will pull all the emotions from you!
Frank becomes the HNIC after his mentor dies. Wanting to get away from Chicago him and his right hand Buck take a trip to ATL to attend Freaknik. CeCe and Tiffany want to experience Freaknik after seeing the videos. An encounter between CeCe and Frank has Frank feeling love at first sight. Buck is dealing with 3 different women but there’s one woman he wants but hasn’t acted on those feelings. I love Queen for Buck and their love for each other was felt. Queen did not play about her man. CeCe and Frank relationship was a cute somewhat second chance romance. CeCe allowed Frank to prove himself and he proved CeCe was the only one for him. This was a nice read of the beginning of the Disciple/Patterson family.
Y’all done met Jah, Messiah, and Shauka Disciple in the Property of a Rich N*gga series. All that swag you was loving on? Yeah, they get it from they daddy, the one and only Frank Disciple, aka Capo.
Frank and Buck came from nothing, were raised by their respective mother’s pimp/drug dealer, and rose to the top of the game. In an effort to escape the death of their mentor, Frank and Buck head to FreakNik to wild out for a few days away from it all.
A random encounter at FreakNik leads Frank to CeCe. From that first meeting, they are all in, not even realizing they share the same hometown. This couple goes through it with more obstacles than you can imagine thrown their way. I loved their love, despite all the BS.
While Frank and CeCe will have you hooked on their story alone, the book is semi stolen by Buck and Queen. These enemies to lovers will have you on the edge of your seat, just waiting for the moment when they give into their feelings.
This book has it all. It’s gritty, it’s sexy, and it will have you all in your feelings. In true Jessica Watkins fashion you gone laugh, you gone cry, and you gone keep wishing for more pages after reading The End!
I wish it hadn't taken me this long to get to this phenomenal read. This was the perfect way to show the beginning of the Disciple Family. Even knowing how everything was going to play out, my emotions were still tender and I ended up being heartbroken by the turn of events...that I already K EW was coming. It was so good to see how Frank and CeCe created their family dynamic and instilled such love, honor and loyalty into their offspring in such a short time. It helps having such a tremendous friend/brother that rides for you and all you stand for. This was a really, really great story. Queen was such a gangster. She was really everything in this story.
Whew chile The ending done pissed me tf off 😩😩😩😩 whhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhyyyyyyyyyyy ! Nevertheless I thoroughly enjoyed this book despite the unfortunate and unexpected ending 😑 ! I’m happy that CeCe & Frank finally got themselves on the same page! CeCe momma was a pain in the ahhh , I get it she was protective over Child however the disrespect was unreal towards Frank . But her daddy got her momma right on together! Buck & Queen omg I loved them down 🥰 it’s just something about the way they acted as if they despised each other 🤣🤣🤣 hilarious !
I kept putting this book off. I’m happy that I did. These folks pissed me off so bad ! The length of this was unnecessary in my opinion. There was character development for a couple people which was the best part. I would not reread this.
I learned from the previous book a little bit about the relationship between Frank and Cece as well as Buck and Queen but being able read about their back story before Frank and Cece death was very intense. Frank and Buck were best friends raised in an unconventional environment. Stanley was a pimp and a kingpin. Although he wasn't their father. He raised them. Once Stanley passed away. Frank grew up to take over Stanley drug empire. Buck was his righthand man but Buck took after Stanley being a pimp. Meeting Cece was the start of a beautiful love story although Frank had a lot to learn and fumbled Cece heart at times to the point their relationship was on the brink of being severed. I understand Linda distain toward Frank because no mother want to see their child heartbroken. However Linda was too damn judgmental and straight up rude. Especially when Cece decided to give Frank a second chance. Linda turned her rudeness and judgment up a few notches and Cece couldn't deal with her mother continuance disrespect towards Frank. Buck wasn't your average pimp though. He didn't abuse, ridicule, or disrespect Peaches, April, or Diamond. He definitely didn't force them to do anything they didn't want to do. April didn't give a damn. She was about her money. Peaches and Buck had love for each other and had a genuine friendship. Diamond was a problem. She was in love with Buck and showed her jealousy like a badge but Buck wasn't in love with either of them. I laughed at how Queen and Buck stayed into it. I knew sooner or later they would've ended up together. When Queen saved Buck life. Something shifted in the both of them. They started to see each other in a different light. Queen didn't have the best childhood. I believe that's why she latched on to Reggie and was hiding the fact that he was abusing her. Queen knew if she would've told Frank or Buck what Reggie was doing. Reggie would've been disappeared. Just so happened. Cece witnessed something different with Queen. Once Buck saw the bruises. He snapped. Buck realized Queen was the only woman he wanted. He decided to let go of Peaches, April, and Diamond. Only Diamond wouldn't go easily. As deep as Frank and Buck was in the drug game. I would've thought an enemy or jail would have caused their demise but it didn't. It was heartbreaking reading how Frank, Cece, along with her mother and father ended up. Cece and Frank left four children that Buck and Queen took custody of. Only for the both of them to slip and get caught up. I know Cece grandmother was too old to get the children but I'm left wondering why her Aunt or Cousin didn't get them. Tammy had me feeling some type of way because she was supposed to be Cece best friend but when Buck and Queen got caught slipping. Tammy wouldn't even take the kids.
3.5. The authors writing style is beautiful, that’s what pulled me into this story along with the synopsis. I guess you could consider this a micro cheating trope with a second chance? Idk - regardless I had a hard time enjoying CeCe and Frank’s love story because of the disrespect once it fast forwarded to CeCe pregnant with his second child and finding out how he had been doing her throughout the years. Im glad Frank changed fr though. I did enjoy Buck and Queen’s story.
I feel like the men in this story did have character development. Even though the cheating and forgiving threw me for a loop I did enjoy that this actually held some realism to how some women still struggled with their feelings towards men they love deeply but have been disappointed by and will indeed go back regardless of what family (Ms.Linda) have to say. I ain’t mad at her momma either. Cause how do you break generational curses surrounding love if everyone allows the same shit? But I digress.
This story made me realize I don’t want my book men to be cheaters - that’s not the second chance romances I like, the real life men are doing a fine job of working my nerves. I don’t need to read about it.
From the beginning Frank loved CeCe! Their story was so touching! They went through a lot of ups and downs but their love was so strong! Buck and Queen fought a long time! There was an attraction they didn't understand, they didn't get along, but when they finally did, they fell hard! Both couples were destined regardless of who wanted them together or not including Linda, CeCe's mother! The ending was so unexpected and very sad! What will happen to the Disciple children, this was too much!!! Great read!
This book was so damn good. I loved every page. This was the story of Frank,Cece, Buck, and Queen. We met them in the Property of a Rich Nigga series. In this book we see how they, fell in love, and their ups and downs. She went back to Freaknik in '96! That was b4 my time but as a Spelman alumna, I enjoyed reading about that craziness.
Even though the ending was already set, this story was still amazing and I'm happy we got their backstory. I knew the ending and my heart still fell out my chest. These 4 will stay with me for a long time.
Another Good Read by Jessica Watkins. To say I am truly speechless would be a understatement. This story had me on an emotional roller coaster ride. My heart goes out to the couples and it leaves you twisted in this web wanting to know what’s going to happen next! This story was intriguing and interesting from beginning to end but sadly it’s life. Definitely a MUST READ!
Jessica does it again! This was a great read, I love how we get the origin story of Disciple kids parents, they had a love story so great you can’t help but fall in love with them. I knew how it would end but there was no bracing myself for then inevitable when I read that part because I grew to love these characters. Also loved reading about Buck and Queen love story too, all in all this is another 10 outta 10 Jess does her big one again!
Even though I knew what was coming, it still hurt when this love story was over. I had grown a total disdain for Buck, but this story made me love him! I still wish Cece and Frank could have been there for the kids, but what's a Jessica Watkins book without a murder of your favorite characters? 😂
Great prequel! Looking forward to what 2024 has in store.
**spoiler alert **I understand Jessica told us readers not to be mad, but…damn, damn, damn! I was not expecting that ending. I didn’t realize until the end that this was the prologue to Property…All in all, great read! I love how the characters were developed throughout the course of the story. Jessica never disappoints!
Because Frank was book Bae! This prequel was a good intro to property of a rich nigga because it setup the background for the children. But I enjoyed this book better than the series. The maturity level of the characters was more developed in this book, in my opinion.
So glad I finally picked up this book. I knew what was going to happen but happy to have read Frank, CeCe, Buck and Queens story. Loved that CeCe gave Frank a second chance to work on their love and family. Queen was everything Buck needed. I was glad for them. Jah was as a real little man, always by his daddy’s side. I’m giving this one 4 stars.
All stories can't end with a happy ending. I feel like WE went thru so much. I was invested ready for the "walk into the sunset hand in hand." I guess I need to backtrack and read the other series tied to this standalone.
I don’t have enough words for what this book did to me! First off this was my first read by this author, and she did not disappoint! The visuals that were created for each character was spot on, and the character development as well. But honeyyyy, that ending, broke me!
I'm not gone lie the ending had me ready to fight. However, overall I loved the book. I wish it would have ended differently for all of them. This book was well written and flowed effortlessly. Great job once again
I loved the layout of the book! I’m glad that we were able to get a glimpse into the lives of Cece & Frank it was great to read about the children first and then double back to see how they got there. I enjoyed this book from cover to cover
The books was so romantic and had gangsta episodes in it there were happy times and sad times but the ending with the crash and the outcome had me sad the end had me wanting to more so glad I read this whole book
“I love you more than I did yesterday and less than I will tomorrow until death do us part.” My favorite quote from the book! I’m glad we got to witness the ❤️.
I decided to read this before reading the Property Of A Rich N*gga series & I’m glad I did. I spoiled the ending for myself by looking at the end of the book 🤣 but I still enjoyed reading! I’m not a huge fan of second chance romance, but I did enjoy the story. Frank & Cece were made for each other. I also enjoyed Buck & Queen. With them, it was just a matter of time before they acted on their true feelings. Frank & Buck wasn’t nothing to play with! They ran them streets boy & eliminated any problem that came about. I loved the friendship and brotherhood between them. Now on to read about the kids!
Ms. Watkins brought us a beautiful, well written story that captured us from the very beginning to the end. Although I wasn’t happy with that ending. It gave us a view of Frank and Buck, who grew up under unconventional conditions, and loved each other as brothers. The love story between Frank and Cece, along with that of Buck and Queen was awesome. The power of love can change your life, and these women’s love changed their men for the better. Definitely a must read!
This was such a good story of love and growing in that love. The writer gives us a look at two couples and there lives and how they are balancing life. I love that we get some strong women in who they are and what they stand for, when discussing love and family. The fact that we get a story that doesn't concentrate on the gangsta but on the other side of life is and was really great. This was not only good storytelling but good writing as well.
The story started kinda slow for me. It eventually picked up and held my attention. I didn't care for it as much as I did the kid's stories but its ok. And glad it was written in this order bc I'm not certain I would've gone on to read the kid's booms if I'd started with this one. I do however love Ms. Watkins books and will continue to support. This book just wasn't for me.
Great story!! I’m telling you I was ready to jump in this book and jack up some dang people, dang it the frog 🫤 😆! I’m so glad that Frank learned how to love CeCe the way she needed to be loved before it was too late. The way that Buck loved him some Queen, and chose her over every thing🤎. I’m done telling the book, but this was an amazing journey of love!!!!
I am not the biggest fan of Jessica's writing style so it took me a bit to finish this series. I give it 3 stars because it is well written, little to no errors and a it actually ended with no open ended questions of what happened to so and so. If you love a good hood love story this is for you.
The title alone gives me chills! Jessica Watkins has delivered yet again, but that’s no surprise. Frank and CeCe? Buck and Queen? This was the prequel I didn’t even know I needed! I can’t wait to see what Ms. MurderSheWrote has up her sleeve next.
I typically don’t like prequels because I already know how it’s going to turn out and I still wasn’t prepared for the ending of Frank and CeCe’s story. I loved Buck and Queen and wished their story went different. Overall good read.
