Holt Hockey #3

From Now On

Rate this book
Spending a week as a “fifth wheel” to two happy couples isn’t the best cure for heartbreak, but Eve Driscoll’s options for spring break are limited. Either join her best friend for a group getaway or slouch on the couch reliving the unexpected end of her three-year relationship.

Time away from campus might be exactly what Eve needs to refocus on her life-long dream that’s about to become a reality—moving to New York City to become an artist. She’s spent most of college playing it safe. Maybe she should take some risks before graduating. Starting with a road trip to California…

There couldn’t have been a better ending to Hunter Morgan’s hockey career than winning a national championship. But the high of hoisting a trophy is fading, forcing him to face difficult decisions about his post-graduation plans. Spring break will be a welcome distraction, although spending the week with his two best friends sounded a lot more appealing before they both got girlfriends. Until he finds out Eve Driscoll is joining their trip too…

Timing wasn’t on Hunter’s side freshman year. He isn’t even sure if Eve remembers the night they met. And he’s certain, only two months from graduation, the timing is even worse now.

But Hunter knows he’ll regret never telling Eve how much he wishes that evening had ended differently. Especially once he discovers she hasn’t forgotten him.

🎧 A Breezy Skate Into Summer Feels 🏒🎨
🏒 Craving Hockey Romance
I picked this up hoping it would scratch that hockey romance itch.
It kinda did… but also didn’t.
It gave me all the athlete vibes and just enough hockey talk to get into the world but no on-page game scenes, which left me missing some of that ice.

🎨 Eve & Hunter
I really wish we saw more of Eve’s artistic personality, and a bit more of the hockey season pressure. Both were there, equally balanced in the background, but I wanted them to pop more, emotionally and narratively.
Hunter was the mix of serious and golden retriever who has everything in order and only allows himself to break once in a while.

🎧 The Audiobook Experience
🌟 Rose Dioro = Queen
I loved Rose Dioro. So much.
She completely was Eve—her tone, her pacing, her emotions, everything flowed so naturally. She carried me through each moment and made me feel it all.
🎭 Christian Fox = Mixed Bag
Christian Fox was... odd?
Let me explain:
• His male character voices were spot on: engaging, fun, and immersive.
• But his storytelling voice? So monotone.
• And his female voice? Honestly kinda irking.
He did grow on me eventually, but there were moments I genuinely felt like he was bored, which was strange, because the book wasn’t boring at all.

I kept thinking: “Wait, I loved him as Garrett in The Deal… what happened here?” Maybe it just wasn’t his best recording week. We all have those.
Also… I know duet narrations are pricey, but this book really would've thrived with one. It deserved it. 👫🎙️

Breakup-to-Romance Pacing
I’m not the biggest fan of stories that start with the breakup of a long relationship and then slide into a new romance so quickly (not in page count, but in time). Even if there were a few small moments between the MCs before, it’s hard to fully believe the shift.
This book actually does it well. It worked more than I expected. And honestly? It’s the perfect preparing-for-summer kind of book: easy, light, emotional without being heavy.

⏱️ Final Thoughts
Very enjoyable. Very entertaining.
I finished it in under 24 hours and had fun the whole time.
It’s super easy to follow —even while multitasking— and perfect if you’re looking for a comfort listen that still brings the feels.
Not a new favourite, but still absolutely worth the listen. 🙌

Thank you VPR for the ALC. This did not affect my review in any way.

If you’re looking for a romance between the main characters (you know, the plot), you can skip the first 60% of the book.

SIXTY PERCENT. WTF?!

This whole time the mfc is still somewhat dealing with/ getting over her long-term relationship with her ex and the actual main characters check each other out a couple times. That’s about it.

After that, they decide to hook up out of nowhere and they go from 0 to 100 pretty much immediately.

Fun fact (except it’s not) - we get a whole chapter of Eve breaking up with her ex, we get some of their conversations after. Yet, when the main characters decide to get together, we get ONE sentence explaining than they had a long conversation and decided to become official.

Does the author actually know whose love story she is supposed to be writing here..? And that it’s supposed to be a romance book at all?

Because most of the plot is just college seniors going through the last months of college. That’s it. That’s the plot. All the mundane things they do, the everyday conversations, their relationship with their families. That’s not even fluff. It’s like reading someone’s detailed diary. And it’s not someone who has a particularly exciting life.

Honestly, this whole book was boring af, the chemistry was basically nonexistent and I wish I DNF-ed, because it felt like a waste of my time. The only thing that made it at all bearable was the banter in the found family group.

PS College seniors don’t get drafted. That’s not how the NHL draft works.

I loved how this book explores the tension of timing; how sometimes you meet someone and the universe just doesn’t line up, and then, years later, you wonder if it’s finally the right moment. Eve and Hunter are both at crossroads, and their slow-burn reconnection is so well done. It’s not all sparks and easy solutions, though, there’s emotional depth in watching them both figure out what they really want, beyond just each other. The romance is just delicious. The slow build-up, the teasing moments, the way they start to let down their walls, it all felt so genuine. And even though the setting is a fun spring break road trip, there’s an underlying emotional complexity that elevates it from just another romance novel to something that really sticks with you.

ARC provided by Valentine PR!

The thing that I loved most about this book is how nostalgic it was. How the aftermath of the college graduation and its reality was discussed. And how all these characters were sad about leaving the place that was their home for the past 4 years. It hit me hard and stirred up old emotions. Leaving school is just so painful and I think it's not talked about enough. The familiarity, the chaos, the students, the same faces you see everyday suddenly just stop and everybody has to move on with their life. I love how the author portrayed the grief and emotions and the hard home life of the characters. There was just so much more than romance in this book.

I also LOVED the epilogue and how the author didn't paint these characters as billionaires or something which was a little realistic and nice to see. I always love it when authors write epilogues in the future with the whole group.

Moving onto the characters............

I didn't like Eve's take on her breakup with Ben. Ben wasn't really the 'bad guy' and I didn't like how she handled the situation. He genuinely seemed like a normal college student afraid of life and decisions. If anything, it kinda painted Eve as the bad one in their relationship for not being more considerate and understandable. Although yes, Ben discussing with his girl best friend before talking to his GIRLFRIEND was a red flag. But again, it was mentioned that Eve pictured Hunter naked everytime she saw him even while she was with Ben which is so wrong.

I feel like Eve and Hunter's relationship went from 0 to 100. Although this was kinda like a slow burn, it wasn't really burning you know? They met once in freshman year and then that's it. They had no contact over the next 4 years. When Eve was finally out of her relationship with Ben, she and Hunter spend a week together for spring break and that's when the old feelings resurface once again and they eventually get together two months before their graduation and do the long time thing afterwards. But the thing is, I just don't see them doing the long term thing in my head. Like their relationship didn't feel that deep and serious to me.

But again, this was a decent read as a whole so yeah.

---------

Heard mixed reviews about the author so I'm omw to find out the real deal! I love me a good hockey romance so I hope this delivers.💙

Ever since reading Elle Kennedy's The Deal, college hockey romances have become one of my favorite genres. I love the mix of new adults navigating college, classes, and love, all while adding in a healthy dose of ice hockey with its hot players and undeniable charm.

That said, I’ve DNFed countless KU books, struggling to get past the second chapter. Most hyped books on BookTok don’t make it past a few chapters—sometimes just a few pages—before I head-shakingly give up. For me, a great book needs more than just an interesting plot; it needs writing that grabs me. More often than not, that means the author’s sense of humor. I’m drawn to witty dialogue, dry humor, and feisty heroines—those are the elements that keep me hooked.

C.W. Farnsworth does a fantastic job of delivering all of that.

The Holt Hockey trilogy follows three best friends (the hockey players) finding love, and it’s not without its hurdles.

From Now On was a great addition to the series. It turned out to be more of a slow burn romance than I expected, but I really appreciated the pacing. Hunter’s quiet nature, along with his fear that he lost his chance years ago, made him a relatable and endearing character. I also loved the idea of finding love near the end of college. It feels so mature—the willingness to take that leap, even when it seems uncertain.

What truly captivated me, though, was the friendship between the guys. They were a found family, and from the very first day of college, it was clear they were meant to be friends. Their loyalty and unwavering support for each other was so heartwarming. Loved it!

I also couldn’t help but smile at how whipped they were when it came to their girls. There were several cute, funny moments between the couples that made me chuckle.

So yeah, I had a great time reading this, and I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for the author’s next book.

I enjoyed reading this book but it didn't enrapture me or give me butterflies.

First, it's a very long book, the author easily could have made it 150 pages less.

Second, it's also a very slow burn which makes sense because it starts with Eve's boyfriend breaking up with her. And naturally, she needs time to get over him, over the three years they spent together to be able to give someone else a chance.

But actually Eve met Hunter the first day of college during orientation day. They left quite an impression on each other but Hunter received a call from his drug addict brother and by the time he went back to the event Eve was gone. She always had a crush on him. And since then she was his dream girl.

Third, the first 60% of the book barely had scenes between Eve and Hunter. The side characters (the MCs from the first two installments) had more presence than the MCs from this one which I did not appreciate.

Fourth, eventhough Eve was meant to have some time to recalibrate her life and her feelings, her relationship with Hunter still came very soon after her breakup. It was probably 3 to 4 weeks after.

Fifth, the author skipped a lot of important scenes. For instance, the conversation they had when they decided to be bf/gf, was mentioned in passing one week later. The scene where their parents were supposed to meet each other for the first time, non existant. When he proposed was not even in the epilogue. And so many important scenes that should have been given more pages but weren't and for me it felt lacking.

That said I still love Eve and Hunter so much. Their personalities, their drive, their moral compass, their behaviour is everything that I want to read in a book. They're ideal MCs unlike typical college manwhores and "loose" college girls. They were PERFECTION.

When I started this book, I immediately loved Eve and Hunter - I loved how Eve was so nervous around him and how he was obsessed with her for a long, long time.

Eve was such an amazing surprise. When I was reading chapter one, I didn’t expect it to surprise me in such a good and beautiful way with so many layers and a deep background. But I loved every minute of my reading journey, especially because of her - I could relate in many ways and I loved how she never, ever, considered giving up on her dreams.

Hunter, the main male character, was such a beautiful surprise as well. Both of them were deeply developed and I didn’t see it coming if I am being honest. I was expecting a light read and I ended up crying my eyes out.

As a couple, they worked so well and they understood each other in such a beautiful way that I found it totally perfectly written - and I was waiting for them to get together since the road trip and it was a long wait that was totally worth it!!

I loved the friend group and the found family in it - I wanted to hang out with them so bad!
If you love college romances, slow burn and found family - I really recommend for you to pick this one!

THIS is how you finish a series!👑🙌💕

It was bittersweet, nostalgic, hopeful, introspective, and very realistic. For some reason, this book made me feel wistful about my college years.

The characters felt real and dealt with a lot of heavy stuff, but in the end, it was a story of friendship and love.

The romantic component was sweet but rather lacking a tiny bit. It felt unbelievable that they carried a torch for each other so long after such a mundane interaction. 🙈 plus there wasn't really a lot of tension between the couple. NO 3rd act breakup though👌💅😍

✨ college romance
✨ secret crush
✨ road trip
✨ one bed action
✨ joint 5th wheels

The newest CW book is about to drop and we get the stunning conclusion of Eve and Hunter. Two fifth wheels ahead of college vacation finally throws these two together. Eve fresh from a break up and Hunter having to figure out what comes next. When a spring break road trips leads these two stuck in a car together, only the first time they met was freshman year and neither one has forgotten. But can they finally get it right with graduation and their futures looming closer, or are these two destined to be one night.

I love the dynamic of this group and how they’ve made themselves their own found family. A brotherhood that goes far beyond college teammates and the girls they found along the way. As well as getting Hunter and Eves beautiful story we get a conclusion of a series that I’ve been in love with since the very beginning. We get ready to say goodbye to them while they say goodbye to college.

Eve and Hunter are very shy and reserved people and after 4 years of wondering what if it’s finally their time to get it right or leave it all in the past. I love the small moments between Eve and Hunter. They were such a slow burn I couldn’t wait for the moment when one of them finally made their move and I loved when they finally got together that was it. They had to fight for each other but also the future they wanted. Such a stunning conclusion closed by the absolute perfect couple.

3.75⭐️ I have come to the realization that I have a soft spot for CW Farnsworth’s books, specifically her college romances, and this series in particular will forever have a special place in my heart. Regardless if this was my favorite book or not.

So let me start by saying that I really enjoyed Hunter & Eve’s story and that I absolutely loved how this series ended!

But sadly, I felt like their relationship needed a little more time to develop. It felt incomplete somehow, almost like the beginning of their connection was completely skipped.

My main issue is that I wasn’t truly convinced that they developed feelings for each other after such a short period of time together. I was expecting to see more romantic interactions between them, and sadly that wasn’t the case. At first I really Ioved the slow burn, but the thing is, they only started really spending time together around the 60% mark, which was a bit late considering the other couples were also a major part of this book. And I absolutely LOVED seeing the other couples again, but it almost seemed like they overshadowed Hunter & Eve’s story…if that makes sense.

Also their encounter 4 years ago wasn’t the groundbreaking moment I expected it to be. Their meet cute felt more like a normal conversation to me and it didn’t justify their feelings, especially since they were never really in contact after that one scene.

Some people might consider this book long and boring. But guess what, I happen to love long books where I get to see all the “boring” little details that take place in these characters lives. So for me, it wasn’t long nor boring. For me, this book was a very enjoyable read that managed to give me all the warm and fuzzy feelings.

Hunter & Eve’s story is so stinking sweet I can barely handle it.

They have a super sweet meet cute their freshman year but it’s cut short due to Hunter getting a phone call he can’t miss and by the time he returns to continue talking with Eve she’s already gone.

Fast forward to senior year, Eve is now single, Hunter is single, and their best friends are dating each other. Eve joins the spring break trip including both of their best friends & she makes the long drive with Hunter.

This trip helps warm them up to one another & when they get back their shared tension just continues to build until they finally give in.. and it is HOT when they finally do give in. 🥵

Both Hunter & Eve have not-so-great backgrounds in regard to their families. Eve’s father is out of the picture and Hunter’s brother is an addict.

As someone with family members who have drug addictions, C.W. wrote about this topic beautifully & with such care. ❤️

HIGHLY recommend. I was kicking my feet like a school girl anytime Hunter did anything really. He’s sooooo fine.

Thank you to Charlotte and Valentine PR for the e-ARC! It’s no secret just how much I adore Charlotte's writing, or how close to my heart this series is. I remember reading Famous Last Words when it was still a standalone, never imagining that years later, it would evolve into a series, with Aidan and Hunter each getting their own stories. Even now, I still can’t quite come to terms with Holt Hockey coming to an end.

Hunter has always been the reserved, brooding rule-follower of his group, alongside Conor and Aidan. From the moment it was hinted that he and Eve shared a history from their freshman year, I’ve been eagerly waiting to see how that would unfold.

I wasn’t prepared for just how emotional their journey would be. The depth of both Hunter and Eve, with their own family traumas, and their sloow-burn romance, had me absolutely giddy. It was so good, so perfect for them.

I adored seeing Conor and Aidan, too and their established couples - countless times they had me grinning from ear to ear, seeing how far they’ve all come so far in their senior college year, it was just so heartwarming, and Hunter and Eve really rounded the series to a close beautifully.

The glimpse into the years ahead? I don’t think I’ll ever fully recover from that. It was bittersweet but beautiful, and it’s a testament to Charlotte’s skill as a writer that she left me both satisfied and longing for more.

One thing about me is I’m going to FLY through a C. W. Farnsworth book. Idk what it is but the way she writes scratches my brain so perfectly I can’t put it down.

This whole series has been so good, and this was no different. I was so happy to see Jello Shot Boy aka certified lover boy Hunter get his story.

I do think that I’m personally growing out of the college romance genre, but I’m glad I haven’t left it behind completely yet. Eve and Hunter were so good for each other and they were developed so nicely as characters.

I also loved getting a full vision of the found family in this series. They all love each other so much. Aiden booking them a trip for a year in the future just so he can guarantee they hang out?????????? SHUT UP

Also the epilogue was beautiful

In two sentences: Eve’s spring break is shaping up to be a fifth-wheel nightmare, but anything beats moping over her ex. Enter Hunter, the hockey star with a national championship win—and a secret he’s carried since the night they met years ago.

🇺🇸 My Review:

This book felt like a breath of fresh air—a delightful escape that left me smiling long after I turned the last page. It’s the kind of story that doesn’t need flashy twists or over-the-top drama to hook you; instead, it captures your heart with its authenticity and warmth.

Eve and Hunter’s journey was so endearing, from their awkward yet electric interactions to the slow unraveling of their deep connection. I loved the mix of humor, heartfelt moments, and the genuine way the story explored themes of self-discovery, friendship, and love. Hunter’s secret crush added such a sweet vulnerability to his character, and Eve’s growth felt real and relatable. The forced proximity, road trip vibes, and “only one-bed” trope? Chef’s kiss!

It was refreshing to see a romance set in the college world that also highlighted the importance of found-family and chasing your dreams. This wasn’t just a love story—it was a story about finding yourself and opening up to possibilities.

It was very sweet and left me all dreamy.

As soon as I opened the book and saw that it was Eve, I got so sad for her. She’s been my favorite side character throughout the series, and I was hoping she’d gotten her happy ending already. I really have liked the glimpses of Hunter in past books, he’s been mysterious and pretty closed off and I was excited to get to know him through this book! I cannot stress enough how much I love this book, Eve and Hunter are a perfect match. The character backstories for both Eve and Hunter are excellent - and they really capture way each MC act the way they do and I like that although they aren’t too open with friends about their struggles, they were open with each other. I’ve continued to love the writing style throughout this series. Hunter is by far my favorite guy of the series, he’s so sweet and thoughtful. I really like when the story focused on Eve and Hunter together, but I also enjoyed the scenes with all of the characters as well, I liked delving more into the dynamics of the guys and how their friendship is, as well as how it’s evolved with the addition of the girlfriends. This entire book felt like a good wrap up for the entire friend group, as well as, Eve and Hunter’s story. I can’t thank CW Farnsworth and Valentine PR enough for allowing me to be a part of this ARC team! You have to get a copy of this book when it releases on Jan 23rd!

I just love Charlotte's writing. I love knowing I'm going to fall for her characters with a smile on my face the entire time.

Hudson and Eve were perfect for each other... A "when you know you know" kind of connection. They were effortless and I fell in love right along side them.

I found myself connecting so much to Eve's story with her dad... It honestly felt like someone took my story and put it on paper.. her thoughts and conversations felt like my own and for that, it was nice to feel seen.

I think Charlotte did an amazing job at talking about some hard topics with a very realistic approach. I loved the found family and down to earth vibes in this book. It just so comforting.

If you're looking for a book about two people finding their way back to each other after one chance meeting years ago, a road trip/spring break with some hilarious moments, a friend group you can depend on, and a healthy, mature, slow burn romance, I think you're going to love this one too!!

A bittersweet goodbye to a great series.

I'm so glad Hunter aka Jelloshot boy got his HEA. This, like everything Farnsworth writes, was brilliant. The novel explored more mature themes than previous books (or maybe just one's that hit close to home) in a respectful and accurate way.
I read this in two sittings and am already debating a reread of the Holt Hockey series.

'It feels like I finally got the girl'

Tropes/Microtropes:

-Hockey Boy
-Political Science Boy/Art Major
-College Seniors
-Spring Break
-Hot Tub
-Found Family
-Complex family dynamic
-Low angst
-He's been pining for a while
-🌶️🌶️

Forever grateful to be on Charlotte's ARC team and implore anyone and everyone to read holt hockey <3

I absolutely adored watching Eve and Hunter’s story unfold. After ending her three year relationship, Eve’s best friend convinces her to join a Spring Break trip. To her surprise, she ends up road tripping there with Hunter, the boy she’s quietly admired for years but always thought was out of her league. What Eve doesn’t know is that Hunter has always noticed her too, though she’s always been unavailable until now. Their early moments together are filled with sweet awkwardness, but watching their bond grow into something deep and meaningful was so heartwarming. They lean on each other through life’s twists and turns, helping one another find courage and hope in their new chapter of life. This heartfelt story strikes the perfect balance between sweetness and deeper, more emotional themes, making it a must add to your TBR.

Thank you, C.W. Farnsworth and Valentine PR for the ARC.

I’ve done the US 101 road trip a handful of times, and I love books that have scenery I’m familiar with. Totally reading this after I finish the other big book that comes out tomorrow. 🤭

Loved this series as a whole, and this book was no exception! Lots of cute moments & a sweet romance. There are not a ton of plot developments throughout the story, that's not necessarily why someone would be reading this book anyway.
