Carmen Lomas Garza tells the story of her life through pictures. The illustrations make this book stand out. They are life like and give you an accurate look at what is going on. The people look believable.....like humans who are enjoying birthday parties, fairs, church outings and family time. I found myself studying each page to see if the same people were present that were in the previous picture. Did you notice the lady with one leg?

Artist Carmen Lomas Garza gives us a look at her family life while she was a child. She tells childhood stories about family gatherings and daily events. Her family does many things together. She credits her mother with helping her to aspire to become an artist.
