A wonderful book young children. The book explains the basics of flowers & how they grow, as well as containing unique interesting facts about some flowers. The pictures are brilliantly colored & full-paged, perfect for holding the attention of the intended age group. There is a bit of humor thrown in as well

One picturebook that addresses a topic in Life Science
Title (italicize): How Flowers Grow
Author: Emma Helbrough
Illustrator (if separate from author): Maggie Silver and Uwe Mayer
Genre: Non-fiction, Science, Nature
Theme(s): Nature, Science
Opening line/sentence (type directly from text): There are thousands of different kinds of flowers growing all over the world.
Brief Book Summary (2-3 sentences in your own words): This book is all about the process by which flowers grow. There are actual photos of flowers, as well as added illustrations showing the growth process.
Tell Me Framework (4 sentences in your own words):
Like(s): I like the accuracy of the book.
Dislike(s): I think it may be hard for preschoolers to follow and understand, however I know that my preschoolers do still love having these books read to them.
Patterns(s): The entire process was shown in a repetitive manner.
Puzzle(s): Why weren’t there more illustrations?
Consideration of Instructional Application (3-4 sentences in your own words): This book could be read when learning about plants and flowers. I know a lot of preschools do the experiment when you tape a bag with a wet seed to the window. Teachers could read parts of this book during that experiment to help explain the process.

This book is perfectly arranged for an early school-aged audience. There is a short list of websites for more information but sadly, no extension activities. I am working on botany studies with kids ranging in age from 5-8 and low-to-no-cost activities are always a must. We will be painting clay pots and planting flowers today and have already done the bean sprout activity. I am always looking for more however because I think the hand on things are always so much more fun.

I'm aware that this is meant for readers a good few decades younger than myself, but as an adult (mynediad) learner, I'm immensely proud that I've managed to get to the end of this book (with the help of a dictionary!)

Highly recommended for any adult Welsh learners who are wanting a very simple 'first' book in Welsh, but it would also be a great first introduction to botany for young children who already speak, or are learning, Welsh. Clear, concise, informative and simple.

As usual, with this Usborne series, we were very pleased. The large text and beautiful illustrations/pictures makes learning about flowers and plants enjoyable. It's a great intro for my 5 yo.
