i. this book made me nostalgic for a high school experience i never even had. it made me want to be young and stupid and in love again 😭
ii. i actually had a crush on one of my schoolmates once. i liked him for two whole years, and on graduation day, aku nyelipin confession letter ke motornya. that was it. no confession to his face, no asking him out, nothing. i didn’t even dare to look at him properly. and i never told my friends about him either. so when i read zhou anran’s point of view, i felt like i was looking at a version of myself. i understand her so much. that quiet, one sided love where you keep everything to yourself and just watch the person you like from afar. YEP i’ve been there 🥲
iii. i love how the story is divided into three phases: lemon, when anran is drowning in her unrequited love; soda, when chen luobai starts pursuing her; and candy, when they finally get together. the story itself is super sweet. there’s no unnecessary drama or complicated plot just for the sake of having one. at first, i was fully prepared for some heavy angst and a huge plot twist, but turns out, the story is really just about two people falling in love and choosing to try for each other. and honestly? i’m so happy it stayed that simple. sometimes all i want is a story about two people who genuinely like each other, put in the effort, and slowly find their way to each other. no unnecessary suffering, no exhausting misunderstandings, just love. and this book gave me exactly that.
iv. and somehow i couldn’t even bring myself to fall for chen luobai while reading this because he feels like he belongs entirely to anran 😭 like no, that man is hers. and anran deserves every bit of love he gives her. they felt so perfectly matched that i couldn’t imagine either of them with anyone else
v. one of my favorite things about chen luobai is how much he regrets the time they lost during their school years. once they’re together, he constantly tries to make up for those missed opportunities and give anran the experiences they never got to have back then. watching him do that was ridiculously sweet. i was giggling and screaming way too often. and him calling her “baby”??? absolutely adorable.
OH, and some of my favorite moments:
- when yuan song secretly taking a picture of ranran and showing it to chen luobai, terus chen luobai minta buat kirim ke dia and told yuan song to delete it from his phone after that, AND THEN BUY YUAN SONG AN EXPENSIVE PAIR OF SHOES KARENA UDAH NGAPUS FOTO RANRAN DARI HP 😭😭 sir??? the possessiveness. the pettiness. i love it ⭐⭐⭐⭐
- zhu ran mistaking anran for a ghost 😭 that scene took me OUT
vi. i definitely see myself rereading this whenever i need something sweet and comforting. it feels like a little time capsule of youth, first love, missed opportunities, and all the teenage romance i never got to experience

This is actually my second time reading this novel.
During my first read, the book isn’t on goodreads yet.
The first time I read this, it left such a huge impression on me. It made me feel young again. To be young and inlove. lol. This is what nostalgia is, I am so glad to have read this - and it led me to read similar stories (but no one else comes close).
There were a lot of things I wish the author did differently, and I think she somehow made it up with the “parallel timeline/what if” near the end.
I just love Cheng Luobai and Zhou An Ran.

I love this novel. The fluffy book that make me wish that I was a student in Asia falling in love while balancing school and life at the same time. I was nostalgic for a memory that I've never had. I wish this author write more books because I LOVE HER WRITING STYLES

super cute, light, and fun slowburn!!!!! i love c-web novels because the slow burn is so real! i hope this gets adopted into a c-drama 🙏🏻 this made me miss hs so bad, the fmc being super introverted is something i resonated w so much!!
