Elizabeth Leiston, daughter of the influential prime minister, is a picture-perfect lady on the path to becoming the future queen of the Kingdom of Haldoria. But her life takes a sudden turn for the worst when her fiancé makes a show of publicly calling off their engagement. Soon after, he throws her in jail and starts spreading nasty rumors about her.

The encouragement Elizabeth receives from her loyal waiting maid, Mireille, and her inner fury are all she needs to reconsider her goals. Why should she continue devoting herself to a country that doesn’t respect her when she can trample over it instead? She will get even with those who wronged her and bring down the damned kingdom, even if it’s the last thing she does! Luckily, Elizabeth is no damsel in distress and has seven powerful magic grimoires she won’t hesitate to use. Get ready because this ruthless lady is out for blood!

Amongst trash there is the good kind of trash and the bad kind of trash. This one was just plain mediocre.

I seriously did not like a single character. I get that Elizabeth is supposed to an all powerful Mary Sue and all but everyone lacked too many braincells for me to go aeroplane mode to read this. The fact that it took more than a few hours to finish this is proof of that. Maan I'm not reading the second volume, nope. Too much incompetence and lack of well, everything .

This started decently, but Ellie's vengeance went way too far - she ended up feeling more like a villainess than most stated villainesses.

The book started like most power fantasy villainess ones, and while not particularly original, it was entertaining enough. The MC's drive for revenge felt a bit over the top, and directed at the wrong people, but that was mostly in name only. The issues arose later in the book when she started committing what are basically war crimes (and since she did so while discussing the rules of war in this setting: yes, that world has such a thing as war crimes) and ended with magically dominating one of her targets of revenge into mass murder. I have never been a fan of true villainous MCs or revenge stories in general, but if depicting your MC as being in the right and have people joke about it in history lessons in a kind of epilogue, than this is clearly not the book for me.

Beautiful then horrifically brutal

I almost feel like there should be a warning on this book to let the readers know there's going to be some explicit mature violent content... It's actually quite surprising that the heroin chooses some of the actions she does. It makes her feel more like a villain... I'm not quite sure how I feel about the series so far, this volume covers the first three or four manga up until the point of the first war conclusion and execution of a specific person I'm not going to name for spoiler reasons. It is alarming that someone can turn that cold and downright evil in the name of anger and revenge. I almost feel like I don't want to read the next one because I'm worried the hero is going to become more villainous with each installment. That said, I am very curious as well if she's going to be even more villainous in her quest for revenge.

This was an overall bland experience that was maybe redeemed a little with the ending.

Plot - 5/10, Character - 3/10, Setting and Magic - 5/10, Writing - 4/10, Enjoyment - 2/10 and 6/10

I have to think a little about what goes into my rating for plot. The basic plot on paper is about a woman scorned by the kingdom and most people she knows after her worthless fiance, the crown prince, decides to marry someone else and makes a big scene. The plot is nothing too crazy and I've even seen it before dozens of times from light novels inspired by the villainess or otome game tropes. So I guess you could say that if this plot is executed well, it would be a 7.5 out of 10, but it felt like the first 80% of the book was just glossed over to set the stage for the first scenes the author actually cared about.

The characters and setting are extremely bland. The people and places are just who and what they are, with no personality. They are just game pieces moving across a board game, behaving in a way that fits their archetype. Which is still sufficient for the author's purpose but definitely not what you're here for with this story.

The writing was okay from a proofreading and grammar standpoint, but my main gripe is that it's written more like a summary of a show. So, it describes events broadly but blatantly ignores details, even if they are needed to appreciate the scene. There is one scene in particular where a person's arm is affected by magic, and other characters are like, "What happened to your arm?" but we, the reader, never actually get any description of what the arm looked like.

The ending somewhat salvaged the experience for me, which probably isn't what people want to hear. Nothing annoys me more than other readers promising, "But it gets better!" because 99 times out of 100, it really doesn't.

So likewise, I won't say the story got better because it never improved on most of the things I considered flaws, but the final 20% actually gave me an idea what motivated the author to write the book. Because in all honesty, the first 80% was impressively derivative and boring. There were brief glimpses/promises of things to come as shown by the MC's attitude toward brigandry, but it was still a bit surprising the author took things as far as they did.

Does the ending make it worth reading this? Unfortunately, I don't think so. While it salvaged the experience from being a waste of my time, I don't feel any need to read the next volume.

Not sure I'm going to continue with this one. She seems brutal. Smart, yes, strong, yes. But brutal. Not sure I want to see innocents getting killed

A woman's revenge

First, a disclaimer. The actions taken by the heroine in this book are way overboard and straight crazy. But I love revenge crazy, so I can say truthfully that this book is a great, well-written example. How would it feel to live your life trapped by rigid expectations only to realize that you will forever be responsible for cleaning up the messes of a powerful fool? To have said fool, who made you give up everything else, throw you away for a lying golddigger? To have no one, not even family, care enough to take your side? It would make anyone murderous, which is exactly what this story is based on. I'm here for the ride!

Hell hath no fury like a woman who's been wronged and underappreciated for her hard work.

good read

Needs some proofreading as there are a number of words out of order or repeated. Given how OP the MC is I can’t really get into the story as I don’t see any growth.

Darker than I expected

Darker than I expected. Spoilers below: listing the darkest moments in the book

It starts light and gets darker the longer it goes ending with someone murdering via sword their little sister, maid, mother, and then as many civilians as they can from the murderers perspective (including little children - not terribly graphic but still quite dark). In the middle it also includes a brief but gross description of a rape including rapist dialogue and his ‘movement’ (the rapist dies almost immediately). The least objectionable material is the portrayal of slavery which is fairly common in books like this.

Well...it starts off as an average Otome/Villainess story but quickly dissolves into one of the most unlikeable 'heroines' I've read in a while. Her lust for revenge starts off fine, admirable in fact, starts a business gets shit rolling. I am thinking it is going to be something like "Akuyaku Reijou no Naka no Hito, The one within the villainess" or something like "Slow Prison Life: The Villainess' Slow Prison Life Began with Her Broken Engagement" But it quickly turns into edgy...I guess humor? Drama? Edginess? Something akin to "The Eminence in Shadow, (Light Novel) Vol. 1" but with a far less likeable MC.

She is a zero tollarance murder. Teaching young girls that if people aren't actively helping you, they are trash and should be killed (those poor brigands). And having a... twisted...sense of justice "ah those soldiers, who have done nothing to me at all, were with you. So, because you betrayed me, they must die too."

Brutal

Everything every other revenge fantasy wishes it could be. And yet free of the creepy NC17 plot points that come up when the protagonist is male. Perfect.
