Much like Cinderella, Hollie Simmons was waiting for her Prince Charming but wondering if her life was meant to be anything but a fairy tale. A kindergarten teacher, Hollie was raised to be a lady by her southern mother who passed away when Hollie was young. After a speedy remarriage by her father and more losses than she can count, Hollie is left alone in the world with only three cold, abusive stepbrothers who, along with their lowlife friend Freddy, are constantly into trouble of the worst kind and with Hollie as an easy mark.
When John McBride, a police lieutenant, saves Hollie from a nasty fall, she thinks perhaps her prince has finally come in the guise of a man she’s always wanted to get to know but was too shy.
John has seen too many cop marriages fail. He’s married to his job and doesn’t have room or the desire to be tied down. Until Hollie. As a cop he's learned to trust his gut instinct. Perhaps he should have trusted it when told him to approach her long ago. Is he ready for the forever he sees in her eyes?
When Hollie is framed for a murder she did not commit and the key to proving her innocence seems impossible to find, will John be able to locate the shady character who committed the crime before Hollie is put behind bars? Is their love strong enough to withstand such a hardship to find their happy ending?
Cheyenne McCray fell in love with reading and writing early, deciding in kindergarten that one day she would become an author. Today, she is an award-winning New York Times and USA Today bestselling fiction author who’s sold millions of books worldwide. Having published more than 100 novels and novellas in contemporary and paranormal romance, urban fantasy and romantic suspense, she is now also writing cozy mysteries as Deb Ries.
Chey grew up on a ranch in southeastern Arizona and delights in creating stories of suspense, love, and redemption with characters and worlds her readers can get lost in. Chey and her equally geeky husband live with their two dogs, six ducks (the neighborhood celebrities), and a small flock of chickens in a small Arizona town where she enjoys gardening, crazy quilting and, of course, writing.
I've just finished this book for the third time since I discovered Cheyenne McCray over a year ago. This is a must holiday read! Can't wait to read it again next year. Perfect holiday story!!!
John McBride is a Lieutenant for Prescott Police Department. Hollie Simmons is a Elementary Teacher who has some bad stepbrothers. They get in trouble all the time and they are mean to her. John knows her from places and she's had a crush on him for years. They met when he saves her from a fall with her arms full of Christmas cookies for her class. He sees her again when she is out with the girls and ask her to dance. Great Story! Thanks for a great read😊
I love this author's stories - I can't seem to put them down. Loved the John and Hollie characters. Hollie is a teacher, but she is being abused by her step-brothers, and John is with the Police Dept. Omg, this was such a great story. I had to stay up to finish it. Great characters and so enjoyable to read. 5☆
Cheyenne McCray has the ability to take you from your reality and place you into the scenes she creates in her books! The world falls away as you live among her characters. Another wonderful book dealing with events that could happen to anyone! Hollie, who has been verbally abused by her step brothers, is accused of murdering one if them. Thankfully John McBride, who has made up his mind to wait for love until he has enough saved to buy his ranch and leave the police department, has begun to fall in love with the lovely, fuller figure kindergarden teacher. Will John prove Hollie's innocence or will she spend her life in jail for a murder she did not commit?
I love the fact that she uses everyday events and also characters who are less then perfect. So many authors today creates the perfect Barbie doll model as their main character but not Cheyenne McCray.
Held by You Riding Tall, Book 9 By: Cheyenne McCray Narrated by: David Quimby
The town of Prescott never lets me down for a fantastic story! Hollie is the town kindergarten teacher and when helped up by police Lieutenant John McBride, she thinks she may have just found the man she was looking for. Living with her evil step brothers has left her emotionally drained, but this man may be the one to fill her heart back up again. John never wanted to get married. Happy with his friends with benefits relationships, he didn't want to take the chance of having failure. Until he helped Hollie up. Their connection instant, but Hollie comes with baggage. Baggage that puts her in danger and unseen circumstances that only John can help her with. But will he be able to protect her from the danger? It's action packed, abusive and terrifying but is also full of love. Hollie is an incredibly strong woman. Living through her horrible home life and fear of abuse and robbery is just the tip of the iceberg. Most would crumble, but she has guts. John is a man who knows what he wants, and will do what he has to get her. And once again, the McBrides in Prescott have won my heart.
Narrated by the talents of David Quimby, we are treated to a wonderful performance. He knows his characters well and easily gives us all the feelings we need to get through each scene. It was a pleasure to listen to.
All of Cheyenne McCray's stories are great with excitement and Thought-provoking dialogues throughout, John and Hollie characters and issues surrounding their relationships are realistic. Hollis is terrified of her three stepbrothers, all three brothers are involved in all sorts of illegal activities..they abused her verbally for years then suddenly one day it one brother became physical. The next day said brother dies and Hollie is accused of killing him. She was powerless to defend herselfand people was quick to judge. The only person who believe her and was willing to do everything in is power to find the real killer is Detective John McBride. He is her prince, sexy alpha, saviour fairy Godfatherm, everything she needs Freddy outsmarted her stepbrothers though, I'm sure they found out what it feels like to terrified of someone even if it was for a short time before they died. Hollie went through many traumatic experience that took away her will to fight, but when it really counted, she saved herself with the skill her father taught her.
First of all, I love this series! Life in small town Prescott is never boring! Unfortunately, for kindergarten teacher, Hollie Simmons, her life with her 3 wicked step brothers is anything but boring. She tries to keep a low profile to avoid garnering attention from the lowlife that hangs out with her brothers. Hollie also avoids relationships but suddenly one with police lieutenant John McBride seems possible. That is until Hollie is charged with the murder of one of her step brothers! John McBride doesn’t do relationships until her meets the quiet Hollie and knows that she’s THE ONE. Now it’s up to John and his brothers to find the real killer and save Hollie. Lots of action and some steamy moments keep this story exciting.
DNF. I didn’t like the writing style, the conversations were stilted, and there were too many unnecessary details. The heroine was super naive and weak which was annoying and ridiculous. There was also no build up to her relationship with John which was lazy. I had to stop reading when Hollie admitted that she picked up a gun at a crime scene like that’s just stupid and everyone knows not to do that. Also her insisting that she could handle her step-brothers with no help or solid plan made no sense.
The premise of the story was okay - teacher accused of murdering her step- brother who had been abusing her. Local lawman investigates. Love follows.
However, there is no way a women who has been abused for years will give up her virginity to someone she's spoken to exactly two times in her life, no matter how attractive they are.
Also, there is no way a lawman could investigate the crimes of his known lover - something called conflict of interest.
'Held by You' was an awesome book. Its riveting page-turning fast-paced plot was filled with suspense, tension, and romance. Moreover, the protagonists, kindergarten teacher Hollie Simmons and police officer John McBride, were well-suited for each other and gushed with chemistry. The suspense and tension kept building into a crescendo, and it definitely held my interest. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the narrative.
Expected so much more from this book but the characters felt insipid and the storyline was weak. Female lead bullied by stepbrothers who live in her house and she does nothing about it but out up with it. Add in a new man whose got his own demented friend with benefits and the story goes down hill. Hate when authors make women out to be stupid. So disappointed.
This is my first time reading one of Mrs. McCray novels, but it won't be the last one. I was pleasantly surprised by the gripping story line and characters that held my interest. There is so much suspense on every page, I simply couldn't put it down, read it in one sitting when I finally did open it to read.
I loved this book and couldn’t put it down until I finished it. I felt for Hollie and Al, she went through with her step brother’s. Loved the chemistry the chemistry between her and John. Loved that he knew she was innocent and how hard he works trying to prove it. The book did keep me on edge too. Loved their happy ever after and I highly recommend this book.
Instead of wicked step sisters. She dea!s with horrible step brothers. They definitely need to go to hell. They are really bad men. The one man she has always wanted . Wants her as well and will always be there for her. Good book
Hollie loved being a kindergarten teacher. When she met John just before Christmas break, she knew her life was about to change. But her three step-brothers tried their best to spoil things for Hollie.
They had both noticed each other from afar but she had a scandalous family and he was a police officer, he just did not date women in town. An accidental meeting brings it all to a head and then her family ruins everything.
Sounded like a great plot. Then it was foul language and profanity. Yuk. Just awful. Who wants to read that. Shows a lack of talent on the authours part. Definitely not finished. Not even for a good story will I read that type of language.
It started out so promising, then at chapter 8, the female character just became the dumbest, weakest person, WITH A POLICE OFFICER BOYFRIEND. Pathetic. Not worth reading.
Don't think I've read a Cheyenne McCray book that I haven't liked. Well written, story flows nicely. Action and drama, over all good read. Would recommend.
