Vampires, Whiskey, and Southern Charm

Rate this book
From New York Times bestseller Mimi Jean Pamfiloff comes a standalone story filled with Southern vibes, way too many cuss words, and a woman determined to defeat the local vampire.

HE’S NEVER GIVING UP, AND SHE’S NEVER GIVING IN.

My name is Masie Kicklighter, and I work at my family’s local bar in the heart of Tennessee, slinging whiskey and living a quiet life.

I can’t say my life was perfect, but when a local vampire started stalking me and sayin’ all sorts of crazy things (I was not his. Nor would I ever be), my first instinct was to run.

But Leiper’s Fork was my home. This was my town. And no one was gonna run me out. Even if he was hotter than a Sunday BBQ in July.

So I came up with a plan to run him off.

The only problem? He was one stubborn man. And crafty, too.

Then something terrible happened. A whole lot of terrible somethings. And they would change everything for us both.

While I cut my romance-reading teeth on PNR, it's not in my regular rotation, but this crafty storyteller is one who keeps me coming back again and again to dive into her outrageous, hilarious, supernatural worlds.

Masie Kicklighter is a good girl. Yes, she's Southern and sassy, but she never swears and she's saving herself for that special someone on the day they marry. She works at her uncle’s brewery and avoids the night shift and the grabby-handed patrons who come out after dark. Except the one time she fills in for someone, and everything in her easy, well-ordered life turns upside down.

Vampires generally keep to their own kind in small-town Leiper's Fork, TN, except Montgomery Stark can’t seem to stay away from the Flaming Rooster. He's convinced Masie Kicklighter is his true mate and is determined to make her his. You can guess how that works out – see the aforementioned life turning upside down.

Unsurprisingly, MJP had me busting a gut and laughing out loud on the first page, so I was easily drawn into this wild and crazy adventure. I devoured this in an afternoon, desperate to see how things would work out. Masie is a terrific character, smart, stubborn, sassy, and funny, and I was rooting for her throughout. Hilarious and enthralling, with a surprising depth of heart and of side of steam, you’ll love this world where smart Southerners and sly vampires live side by side.

Mimi Jean Pamfiloff is one of those authors, for me, that spins out stories sure to entertain. Her books are filled with humor and laughter amongst the danger and darkness. The cover for Vampires, Whiskey and Southern Charm is gorgeous. It doesn’t scream vampires, to me, but it does scream love and romance, even though some blood must be shed.

“I am a vampire, Masie.”

So….down the rabbit hole we go, with a vampire that is sure Masie is his mate, and Masie, who doesn’t believe in vampires. She has a mouth like a drunken pirate, and I can relate to that. That doesn’t mean she’s a bad girl. She doesn’t smoke, do drugs, drink, or…well, her body is her temple and she is a virgin. So how does she end up in prison as a convicted murderer?

She works at the Flaming Rooster, and I will leave it up to you to find out who their headliner is. Definitely a clucking hoot. She loves the bar, not so much the grabby customers. I will forewarn you about putting you hands on her. Her bite is as bad as her bark.

Sheriff Idiot (HAHAHAHAHA) is her ex boyfriend and creepy as hell.

“Go on. Keep making fun, Masie. But we both know I’m the one you come running to when you’re scared and need help.”

“You’re the sheriff, bonehead. Everyone calls you.”

Maybell, her coworker and best friend is a hoot. She goes with the flow.

As the story unfolds, Masie’s life becomes more complicated. Secrets will be revealed to her. Dangers arise, bodies will fall, and when all is said and done, they will be having a coming out party. LOL

Mimi Jean Pamfiloff never fails to entertain, supplying equal shares of laughter and danger. I find it hard to predict what direction her story will take me, but I am always eager to go there. Though Masie’s story is told, there could be more, so be on the lookout.

ARC Review

Vampires Whiskey and Southern Charm by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff is a paranormal rom-com.

The story is basically about a southern girl, Masi, versus powerful vampires, especially Montgomery Stark.

It's an amazing entertaining story with lots of fun banters, action, and a beautiful ending. The plot is captivating for those who love this genre, it can brighten up your day. I liked the Southern vibes and the old-school vampire thing. The characters are crazy. Masie was by far my favorite one, she has an attitude and a heart of gold. Montgomery was a true gentleman but also dangerous. As a pair, they were incredible because no one was backing down and made things interesting.
The scenes that impressed me were when she was being a spitfire and the sweet ending.

If you love vampires and strong heroines then you need to read this.

Ever since my daughter-in-law introduce me to Mimi I have been hooked on her stories. The depth of the characters and substantial plots keep the reader carving more. This new book is no different.
Masie is a strong, intelligent and loving woman who survives much but still has a smile on her face.
She loves her family and would do anything she can to protect them including giving up herself, her hopes and dreams of her future. Whether her silly sister who lived on edge or reality, or her hard industrious uncle, they are all important to her.
This is not the typical vampire story since it changes many of the theories others have about them.
When vampire creators die the rest f the lie does not perish as in other books. Many ideas about vampires are changed – they do not turn into bats. They can fall in love without killing their mates.
Seems the person who was turned maintains their true self and does not turn into a monster suddenly.
This story is about love, hate, fear, contempt, revenge and despair and any other feeling one can experience.
It is a good read with more events unraveling on every page but leaving reader to want more each page.
There seems to be no end to this story because reader wants to learn more of Masie’s life before and After Monty. Can’t wait for next Chapter in their lives. Great book.

Vampires are definitely a MJP specialty. Maisie’s story kept me reading all day and I hadn’t even noticed I was close to the end, it could have kept going and going. Maisie is a southern girl with work ethic, values, a decent cussing vocabulary and great instincts. Montgomery Stark, 500 year old vampire, comes into Maisie’s world and everything she knows changes. She’s a tough cookie and I love her personality and wittiness. Even Stark is likable. If you enjoy MJP books this will suit you just fine. I was thrilled to receive an early copy and jumped in immediately to begin reading, this is my voluntarily given review.

Loved reading the mesmerizing and spellbinding paranormal story. Even though a vampire, Montgomery Stark, saved Maisie Kicklighter's life, Massie wants nothing to do with the vampire, but Stark claims she is his mate, just like his first wife, and wants to have a relationship with Massie. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written, and a must read riveting romance story. Can't wait to read the next story in the series by the phenomenal author, Mimi Jean Pamfiloff!

What a wonderful surprise!
An amazing, secret book from one of my favorite authors!
Mimi just doesn't seem to do any wrong with her out there stories of whatever craziness just decides to take up residence in her imagination.
Vampires are real!
Or at least in this book they are.
This was awesome! I loved every giggling minute of it.
Masie is fantastic, the perfect mix of sweet southern girl and mouthy biker bitch! She's hilarious, sweet and kind of innocent. But, put a vampire in front of her, threatening to do harm, and you've got a little she-devil on your hands!
And was that a clandestine little nod to ' what we do in the shadows? Maybe it wax just me?
Get to and read this crazy little book, it will be the best afternoon you've spent for a while!

If you're looking for an original story that will keep you on the edge of your seat and action packed, then this is the book for you. Excellent world building with one-of-a-kind characters you can't help but feel for. Cheering, laughing, getting frustrated right alongside these characters, it was a great read I couldn't put down!

Apparently this is my vampire month because this is at least my 4th vamp book for this December and we're not even halfway through the month yet.

And what do I see on the first page of Vampires, Whiskey, and Southern Charm?

“WARNING

This author doesn’t do trigger warnings. She insists on treating her readers like mature adults who know how to close a book or skip pages. If this triggers you, then go no further.
Otherwise, get ready for some fun with all the bumps, gore, fistfights, murder, violence, alcohol, appallingly mean vampires, and a good time. Yum, yum. Delicious!”

description

I'm an Eastern European millennial. If I could survive childhood without any trigger warnings and make it through after drinking from Cola bottles filled with strong "water", then you can bet yo ass I need no trigger warnings from my books. The only snowflakes we got in our generation in this part of Europe were from the sky in winter.

Now back to the happy(?) couple.

Masie Kicklighter, whose last name means “caretaker in German. Or 'chicken ladder'. The internet wasn’t exactly clear” is our delightful southern belle FL and also a spitfire who swears like a seasoned sailor, saves herself for marriage and has mad skills with a serving tray.

And by that I mean belting handsy drunkards upside the head with it.

She also has horrible research skills because the internet is most definitely clear and her last name is indeed an Americanized form of the German Kückleiter, which does quite literally mean "chicken ladder". The name apparently originated as a nickname for chicken farmers, especially in German immigrant families settling in the American South, particularly Georgia and South Carolina.

On the other hand, Montgomery Stark is the ML, a 400ish year-old vampire with a gravelly voice who happens to be a stalker, thinks that Masie is his mate and thought that being a creepy lurker and killing eight men in addition to taking Betsy - Masie's shotgun - would endear her to him.

Not an ideal first date in my opinion, but hey, my heart is for decoration purposes only and romance makes me nauseous, so I'm probably not the best judge here.

“My mate Anna died two centuries ago. She was a cold and sometimes violent woman, but mostly she was reckless and impractical.”
“That sounds like it was…difficult.”
“No,” he declared. “She was the love of my existence. She was loyal, highly intelligent, and beautiful—the most precious thing this world has ever known.”

description

OK, no. I'm definitely sure you don't say this to the frightened human whose house you just broke into, and definitely not after you promptly declared yourself a vampire, then admitted that you've been stalking her for weeks, followed by a promise to “be in contact soon.”

This is a horrible first date, Monty. Even if you're a gorgeous towering vampire with hot tats up his muscley arms, this is not how you woo your very frightened and very skeptical human mate.

“He smiled, two deep divots forming in his cheeks.
Vile bastard had dimples. It felt like God was playing a joke. Dimples were for giggling babies and cute boys with good hearts.”

OK, maybe that might work a bit in your favor.

description

Because then she gets arrested for murder by Sheriff Idiot, a.k.a. Thomas Rowlan, Masie's ex-boyfriend from high school who also happened to have cheated on her with her best friend.

Good riddance considering his intellect:

“Go on. Keep making fun, Masie. But we both know I’m the one you come running to when you’re scared and need help.”
I stopped typing with my finger and stared. “You’re the sheriff, bonehead. Everyone calls you.”

And also:

“Thomas, can I ask you a question?”
“No, I won’t divorce Lizzy for you. I can string you along if you want, but it’ll only be a sweet, dirty fling.”

description

Such a beacon of intelligence. Such a catch. Lizzy must be so lucky.

How did we end up here, you might ask?

Well, the first date ended up badly and so did the next ones.

And the honeymoon?

“You will pay, Masie. I will destroy you and dance on your grave.” He lowered his voice to a whisper. “Only, you won’t be dead, and no one will hear your cries for mercy ten feet under.”

Oh boy... that sounds like grounds for divorce.

It was around chapter 22 when everything just escalated from 0 to the Flash. Barry Allen's got nothing on the speed of how things progressed from that point on with literally little to no explanation. Sure, there were hints that everything was going downhill with the story - such as the lack of proper, solid explanations, or the missing - and quite relevant I might say - details that would have at least tried to flesh out the backstory and make it make sense.

Halfway across the book we just started to get bombarded by all these random and never-ending minor and major bombshells that just made everything more convoluted and chaotic.

The last 25% felt so rushed, I just kept on blinking at my kindle trying to come to therms with it. First 99% of the book vampires were doing their thing and hiding in the darkness, with around 100 of them somehow surviving for decades without raising any suspicions in a small, no-name town and then BAM!

Next thing you know they're on national TV just casually announcing their existence to the whole damn planet like it's 7 p.m. and they're showing the weather forecast for the next day. Sure, we do get told that:

“As for the Great Outing, apparently some humans weren’t taking the news very well. People were already rallying, vowing to hunt and kill all vampires. Others were hunting vampires for totally different reasons. Some people wanted to become them and enjoy the gift of immortality. Others wanted to get a hold of their blood for medicinal purposes.”

But... that's it?

“Do you think things’ll ever go back to normal?” I asked Charlie.
“That’ll depend on you.”
“Me?”
“You’re on the ballot to be the first democratically elected vampire ruler.”
I laughed. “I’m not even a vampire.”
“But you are the reincarnation of Anna. I think it carries more weight.”

Excuse me, what?

How did we even get here?

So now a regular human - who was in prison for over 6 months for a fake murder because her vampire stalker/maybe boyfriend/former husband/future mate(?) couldn't take a rejection and learned nothing about the importance of communication from Romeo and Juliet - just happens to be the new vampire queen(?)... ah... president(?) because she's somehow the presumed reincarnation of the former one?

And freshly out after being convicted of a crime she not only didn't do, but one that didn't even happen what is the first thing that Masie says to the vampiric POS that did this to her?

“I also appreciate that you cleared my name so that people will stop callin’ me Murder Masie, the Organ Picasso.” And Ginsu, like the knives. There were also Chop Chop and Gutter Trash. Because I’d gutted someone.”

Gurl, what?

And just one year later, everyone is not just cool with everything but they even came up with cute business ideas.

“Humans from all over the world came to stay at our five-star golf resort, to mix and mingle with the undead who once rubbed elbows with the likes of Shakespeare, Michelangelo, or Caesar. Some came to visit our vampire health spa, one of two thousand locations around the world. If you were sick, all a person had to do was donate a pint of blood in order to enjoy the incredible healing properties. For an extra fee, you could make a week of it, drinking champagne, getting full-body massages, and a full medical workup to ensure you were cured after drinking vampire blood. And there was vampire night golf, of course.”

description

And Masie?

“I ultimately turned down the nomination for president but took on an advisory role, but only because Charlie asked, and I wanted him to succeed.”

Not shit.

Only for her to promptly be attacked by a couple of vamps who were supposed to be dead, then saved last minute, then comatose for a bit while her body was deciding if it would get better or die and turn into a vamp.

I am not joking.

And the ending?

description

I finally got my spice in the last damn chapter of this book. I have waited 29 chapters for a 5 page sex scene in the epilogue which ends so abruptly and in such a sort of cliffhanger that I just stared at the last page like an idiot and just.. blinked into the void of my kindle.

Also... vampires apparently have heartbeats.

I have so many questions and no answers since "it’s not for certain” if the author will "be writing more of this series."

And finally... WHY IS YOUR NAME MONTGOMERY STARK IF YOU WERE BORN IN NORTHERN ITALY OVER 4 CENTURIES AGO?

I honestly couldn’t stand this book. This book had so much wasted potential. The main character was smart, likeable, and resourceful however the main love interest was not likeable and was pretty much a psychopath 90% of the book. In fact the MMC even got the heroine locked up in jail because she refused his advances continuously and he threatened several times during the duration of the book to murder someone just because she didn’t want to go on a date with him. This book was very weird and just didn’t do it for me. Next time make a likeable MMC and don’t make him a delusional psychopath. The MMC was creepy, stalking, controlling ( not in the alpha male way) and honestly delusional. He single handily ruined what could’ve been a good book.

For Maisie the day that would change her life started like any other day and it changed the moment she agreed to swap shifts with Ashley. Maisie was assaulted by a drunk idiot during her shift at the Flaming Rooster which shook her a bit but then finding out that the same idiot that had attacked her had came back at closing that night and killed Deedee the server she’d been working with and came into the bar with the intent to kill her. However in that moment when she thought her life would be no more something happened a man that apparently had been coming into the bar frequently that seemed weird, different somehow from other men had saved her life but how she could have sworn he killed her attacker but with no evidence of it how could she prove it or was her mind just playing tricks on her at the moment of a near death experience?
It was in meeting this man that she would later learn to be Montgomery Stark that she would find out about a world beyond imagination that was happening right on her doorstep for who knew that a quiet sleepy town like Leipers Fork could be the home of Vampires and that they all think Maisie is there dead Queen reincarnated all thanks to Stark who wanted a second chance with his first love only to realise that the only love he will ever need is the one he wants to build with Maisie although that may not be as easy as he thinks as Maisie is nothing like his lost love Anna but everything that Stark loves and needs now but is it to late will she forgive him for everything she had gone through since his declaration to the Vampires swearing that she was Anna and could he make Maisie understand that she’s the only woman for him whether vampire or human!!

Vampires, Whiskey and Southern Charm by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff is the First book in the Masie Kicklighter Series. This is the story of Montgomery Stark and Masie Kicklighter. Montgomery is a vampire who happens to keep going to the Flaming Rooster because he knows that Masie is his mate. Masie is a sweet hardworking girl who is just trying to keep working and is saving her self for marriage. Masie is unimpressed with Montgomery's onset of trying to make her his. Enjoyed this fun hot read and I can't wait to read more from this author.

This new book by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff will hopefully be the first in a new series! It is amazingly well written and hooks you right from the start. The characters, especially Masie and Stark, are exciting. Masie is a good ole southern girl with a heart of gold and a spine of steel. Montgomery Stark is a dark, brooding man who scares you as he draws you in. Masie learns that vampires are real and makes it her job to protect her friends, family and her town. The question is, can she save her heart from Stark? Read it and find out!

I always look forward to a new MJP book, especially her pnr. I know there will be laughs, crazy goings on, spice, suspense and a bit of darkness with twists and turns that keep all the characters and me guessing. This is no different and I thoroughly enjoyed good girl  Maisie Kicklighters' journey into the mysterious and dangerous world of vampires.

The appearance of enigmatic stranger Montgomery Stark at the Flaming Rooster bar where she works, turns Maisie's life upside down and back to front, with the things he reveals after saving her from a violent situation.  I liked Maisie, she was feisty but innocent, sweet but strong willed and very determined to get Stark out of her life.  Stark was an intriguing character, stubborn and arrogant, he definitely had his a-hole moments, but there was more to him than we first saw.

I thoroughly enjoyed this and hope there is more to come from Maisie and Stark. This finished with a hfn, but I'm sure they have so  much more to tell.

Big doses of humor and spunk from her characters, Mimi has done it again. Maisie is stalked by a vampire who suddenly becomes her protector. Claiming she's his past mate, Montgomery wants to claim her. She on the other hand is stunned to learn vampires really do exist and now she's involved with one. Revenge, hate, regret and love, they all enter the story. Can the one she hates turn into the one she loves? A great read. I read this ARC in one sitting and I can't wait for more.

Masie finds out that her town is swarming with vampires because one of them has decided that she fits in perfectly with his plans. That might be tolerable, but other vampires want to use her for the opposite reasons. Fortunately, Masie is one tough cookie, and she believes in herself. If anyone can make it through this wild ride, it is Masie.

Excerpts
(Masie)

“I never went to college, but I had a curious mind. Anything foreign to my world in Leiper’s Fork usually piqued my interest. I once spent an entire week watching sumo wrestling on YouTube just because one of my customers mentioned he’d gone to Japan over the summer and saw a match. One mention of “men in giant thongs, giving each other wedgies,” and I was all in. I also knew how to change my oil, fix a flat, and turn used cooking oil into biodiesel—ChrisFix fan here. I followed the MeatEater and could skin a deer or make jerky. Didn’t taste so great, but I could do it. I’d also spent several months sampling classical music—too dramatic for my taste, but I knew the major composers, just like I knew that banjo music hurt my ears. Like listening to a cat suck lemons.

If I wanted to get closer to him, I’d have to let him seduce me. Okay, maybe seduce was the wrong word. I’d have to encourage his pursuit—push him to try harder instead of just pushing him away. He needed to believe I was all in with this game, and that we both wanted the prize at the end: to be together”.

They hadn’t started out on the best of terms. Montgomery Stark made her crazy … plotting his 500-years-old demise. After being stalked by a vampire, then she was abducted, sexually tortured by his brother Lazlo with his accomplice Stark’s ex, Fiona.

Then he faked his ‘murder’, framing her, had her charged and imprisoned for near a year for his death.

Stark had abdicated his power for her to gain her freedom, but was it enough? Did she love him? Finally freed, she had the vampires banished.

This contained many moments of sheer glee, utter stupidity and her oftentimes logic defying moments of meandering thoughts.

This book was such a mess, I was laughing as I was reading it.

Things escalated from 0 to 100 with no explanation, no back story, no details. One minute vampires are hiding in the shadows of a small town and another they're on national TV announcing their existence to the whole world; and everyone believed them? and was okay with everything? Was it just another Tuesday for everyone? Furthermore, apparently, a regular human girl is now the vampire...president??? Everything about this book bothered me. The writing was juvenile, the storyline was outrageous, the MC was the most annoying protagonist I've come across, like, EVER. All that and I'm not even going to get into the cringy phrases that made the story even more uncomfortable for me. The whole reading experience was awkward and nothing made sense.

I really hate to be the odd man out, but I did not find this to be a decent read. Maybe if the events, pivot points, and plot twists were all within reason and not so exaggerated and out of context, I would've liked it... It just did not work for me. I can see how it would for others.

Could be Better

Took me a minute to really like the story since Maise really didn’t like her vampire right away. The sexy times don’t happen till almost the end of the book, and the author left us on a bit of a cliffhanger. The only issue with that is that the author isn’t planning on an immediate book 2 to this series cause she’s tied up with other books she’s writing. Had I been forewarned I wouldn’t have read this now, I would have waited longer to read this one. ☹️. Removing stars for the fact there is no book 2 in process, there’s not more chemistry or attraction between the characters early enough in the story (to want me to keep reading consistently-I read other books instead of this one) and honestly the vampire is kind of a stiff (no pun intended) I just didn’t think he was that interesting.

Well, all I can say is bring on the whiskey and the southern charm, because this book was absolutely entertaining. I never tire of reading any of Mimi Jean Pamfiloff’s books. No matter what the series, no matter what the subject, they are all so very entertaining. Of course her vampire series is what got me hooked on this author and I have not looked back. I honestly couldn’t even put this book down. The new character featured in his book is Masie Kicklighter, who is just the kind of stubborn, kick ass Southern girl that carries this book. She speaks her mind and stands up for herself. And she is bound and determined to get rid of, what she thinks, is the only vampire in her small town. After a murder, a kidnapping, a marriage, and time in jail, she discovers that her closest family and friends, are well aware that there are more than just one vampire in this town. And they have absolutely no problem with them. Masie, on the other hand comes across Montgomery Stark, who believes she is the reincarnation of his wife, Anna and sets out to win her over. And who knew there was politics involved. Of course, in the end Masie eventually gets what she wants. Love the new book, hope there are more books in this series, which I believe there will be, and kudos again to Mimi Jean Pamfiloff for another great ride. So as I always say, sit back, relax either have a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and enjoy this page turner.

This book is a PNR standalone. It has all the usual bonkers, loveable characters and situations I'm coming to expect from MJP.

FMC Masie is full of Southern charm and wit, she can easily put anyone down with a back-handed compliment and a smile on her face - she was a great character to get to know and read about.

Our MMC Montgomery Stark was a hard character for me to like, he was an old vampire and did some very questionable things, even to Maisie and I found it really hard to like him for most of the book, I certainly wasn't rooting for him to end up with her.

I loved all the banter and conversations between all the supporting characters, it was exactly what I imagine from a US Southern small town - everyone knows everyone and nothing is a secret for long.

Stark believes Masie is his mate, he just can't seem to leave her alone for long but she is a good girl who has been saving herself for marriage, and she was not expecting a vampire. Once she learns about vampires, she can't get away quickly enough but this opens up secrets the town has been hiding.

The story relies on a lot of miscommunication and holding back of information - it did make the book a bit frustrating in parts and I was desperately willing characters to ask more questions or tell them more info. Masie learns that vampires exist and it opens up a whole new set of problems for her.

Overall I loved the bonkers world-building and characters but I wasn't a fan of Masie and Montgomery as a couple.

I wasn't totally sure what to expect from this book, since I've read many books by this author but this one isn't related to any of her other books. The book is in the fantasy/paranormal genre since it includes vampires, but other than that it basically takes place in the real world. So, there aren't fantastical creatures or gods throughout the book besides vampires. I liked the setting of a Southern small town, even though I've never lived in such a place and can't vouch for its realism. I found the main vampire character, Montgomery Stark, to be very interesting. Most of all, though, I liked the actual main character, Masie. I love that she absolutely won't put up with anyone's crap, while at the same time trying not to swear (even mild swearing) no matter the situation. Masie promised her mama that she wouldn't swear, and she takes that promise very seriously, even when there's no way that her mama can hear her. Sorry for the small spoiler, but I burst out laughing the first time Masie apologized to her mama in her head because she had *thought* a swear word. The book is enjoyable, funny, and unpredictable. The author states at the end of the book that there may or may be more books in this world. Personally, I am hoping for a sequel. I want to know more about these vampires; and I definitely want to know what happens next!

Masie Kicklighter is the definition of a good southern girl, she doesn’t drink, doesn't smoke, barely swears, keeps her head down and works hard. Content in her small town life until a chance Friday night covering a coworkers shift at her uncle's bar changes everything. Suddenly neck deep in things she doesn’t understand and hardly believes and might not survive Masie needs to find a way to scare off her new admirer (read: sexy, mysterious, stubborn… stalker). Montgomery Stark may have saved her life but that doesn’t mean she is going to fall at his feet like some damsel in distress.

Another book full of the twists and turns we have come to expect from Mimi Jean Pamfiloff, Vampires, Whiskey, and Southern Charm is anything but predictable. A departure from her previous vampire books the lore is different placing this book in its own world. Chuckling because of the Prologue, Mimi’s wit and humor starts immediately and carries through the entire book. A fun, sarcastic, even violent romp through a southern small town she has done it again. Although this book wraps up neatly sans the usually Mimi cliffhanger there is definitely room for this world to grow into its own series. Call me hopeful but I would love to see more fr Masie and Montgomery in the future.

It is no secret that I am ecstatic whenever I discover that this author has a new book coming out! MJP’s books are just so delightful and wildly entertaining that I cannot help but skip to the bookstore to snag her latest release. Vampires, Whiskey, and Southern Charm has everything that I have come to expect this with author’s writing - quirky and endearing characters, a heaping dose of humor, a bit of mystery and suspense, and an original storyline. This paranormal romantic comedy is a fast-paced, enthralling read that I devoured in one sitting.

The first book in a new series, the reader is introduced to whiskey slinger and waitress Masie Kicklighter. With a good head on her shoulders, this spunky Southern girl is unexpectedly thrown into the hidden world of vampires. Then there is the enigma of Montgomery Stark. Just what is this vampire up to and why is he in small town Leiper’s Fork, TN? As you can imagine, this novel is full of adventure, intrigue, and a lot of belly laughing moments. There are some little twists that kept me on my toes and I adored the characters. This was a fun and perfect read that left me smiling and eager for more books in this series.

So hilarious!

If you've never read Mimi Jean Pamfiloff, you are totally missing out. Her books are absolutely brilliant and hilarious. This book was no exception.

Instead of using the same traits that vampires in some of other books have, these vampires are a little more traditional. But I digress....

Masie lives in a small town in Tennessee working for her uncle as a server in his restaurant, but one night that she took a shift from a co-worker changed her life forever. When a customer gets a little handsy, a stranger helps her out who is very dark and mysterious. Later that night, the customer comes back to pay her back, and after fighting for her life, the stranger comes to help again. When she awakes, nothing is as she remembers what happens. She realizes that the mysterious stranger is Stark and he is a vampire. He wants Masie since he believes she is his mate come back to life.

There is so much that happens in this book and I do NOT want to ruin it for you. Just read this… you will laugh, yell, cry, and more. 100% worth the read!

I received a free copy of this book via the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Favorite Quotes:

I jumped back, my mind flooding with the sort of rage that leaves a permanent burn mark.

Vile bastard had dimples. It felt like God was playing a joke. Dimples were for giggling babies and cute boys with good hearts. On him they were more like a weapon meant to deceive.

I knew the major composers, just like I knew that banjo music hurt my ears. Like listening to a cat suck lemons.

I was too busy staring at the elaborate murals on the ceiling. They reminded me of something you might see in ancient Rome, with clouds and angels and ripped men in cloth diapers.

Charlie was nuttier than a squirrel turd.

My Review:

This was an amusing and lively read that was just plain fun and kept me chuckling and smirking with glee. I don’t often read paranormal anything but I’m glad I picked this one up. The storylines brought interesting and unique twists to vampire lore with humor, wit, and a bit of steam tossed in as a bonus. I’m looking forward to more Maisie Kicklighter adventures and am highly curious as to what this clever scribbler has in store for her.
