Darcy Sweet Mysteries #2

Mists of the Past

Rate this book
Darcy Sweet isn't what you would call a girly girl. She almost never wears makeup and loves nothing more than to wear a well worn pair of jeans, a t-shirt and her most comfortable pair of sneakers. So she felt a little strange as she prepared for her first official date with her new cop boyfriend. They were going to have a quiet romantic dinner in a nice restaurant. There was nothing to worry about, right?

Wrong!

Darcy should have known that even a date wasn't immune to the other side when she had a vision during the date. And worse still it was a vision about her new boyfriend. What did she really know about him anyway? He was a cop, yes, but that didn't mean he was squeaky clean if the vision was anything to go by.

Making a hasty exit out the rear of the restaurant she hurries home only to have him follow her. She lies about why she left, feigning sickness but she could tell he didn't believe her. Not able to ignore the vision, Darcy delves into it further as she tries to avoid him, hoping to find a reasonable explanation for what she saw. The more she finds out the more she worries that he may not be the nice guy everyone thinks that he is. Could he really be a killer?

Mist of the Past book#2 of The Darcy Sweets Mystery will have you falling in love with the Characters even more as we get to know them all. K.J. Emrick knows how to put just enough of romance into this Mystery/ Paranormal Series to make you want more from these hard working, fun loving Characters. I hope with all hope the he or she will continue with this series for a while.

This is the second book in the series. I was starting to dislike Darcy in this one, I felt sorry for her boyfriend as yet again she suspected him. Her friends were also right, she starts suspecting people and causes them problems.
She is not a detective so I am not sure why her sister allows her to continue?
Saying that though, I like the mystery, the cat, the support characters and the ghost in the bookshop. It's a quick read too and I do quite like the concept and setting so I would be happy to continue the series.

Another meh book in the series.

The main character was extra annoying in this book. And it's beginning to feel like there is no one she will suspect of a crime... including the cat.

Again, I hate Jon Tinker's make. I try to read it as JT just to make it better.

And again, the only redeeming quality of the book is the mystery. Loved it! Loved the way the past was connected with the present.

I'm truly hoping there are other series by this author with less childishness and cheese, because I so enjoy how they write the mysteries.

At the time where there's a plethora of cop/detective/mystery shows & books, an audience/reader expects a certain amount of unpredictability in a story. But this book fails to even arouse any interest in the story! And the culprit is glaringly evident but the apparent "psychic" and her excessively objectified cop boyfriend just cannot see it. The only solace is that this book came into my collection during SYKD.

Mists of the Past is a chintzy cozy mystery by K.M.Emrick with a romance thrown in. The romance felt as if after deciding who the murderer was, the author didn't know how add more mystery to this cozy mystery, so she threw in the romance. In addition, it was quite clear who the murderer was from the first mention of them.

I hope book 3 is better than this one.

Really good read

Great second story, I love the way Jon and Darcy's romance has taken off. They are so good with each other and He puts up with her powers so well. What a great guy he is. On to book three. Lets see what kind of drama comes up next and what kind of mess is Darcy gets into.

Book Two is another undemanding quick read. While more backstory is provided for Jon, the characters are still flat, and Darcy is a rather sorry psychic and lead character. The mystery has interesting elements; the investigation has Keystone Cops elements of foolishness. Perhaps the target audience is high school-aged.

Ok, I felt a bit better starting this one than I did the first one. It wasn't as slow and I feel that the characters developed a lot more. I like that we learned about Jon's history before he came to Misty Hollows.

Definitely a paranormal, cozy mystery. It's interesting but not very complex. Very entertaining and fun to read.

Dumb story line. I know it’s fiction but the part where a cop calls in for a search warrant and arrests people for no reason is just comical.

This one was really short, more of a novella. The cat didn't play as big of a role as in the first book. I'm still iffy about the series, but I'll keep with it awhile longer.

Darcy and Jon are trying to uncover the mystery from his past, did his friend Kyle come to an untimely death after all? The only thing I missed was the review of Smudge's viewpoint.

Incredibly cheesy and not the best writing. But here I am still reading and will least complete the first 6 books I have in the collection. I'll always be a sucker for a mystery solving cat.

Excellent follow up to the previous book. The last book we found out about Jon's past or a little bit about it, but thankfully they didn't leave us in the dark. We find out a lot more about the murder charge and everything surrounding it.

Jon and Darcy have really grown as characters as well as a couple. Jon's past feels more like part of him than just something quickly thrown together for the precious book. We get to meet two of his college friends which added more depth. Darcy's gifts were utilized much more in this book which gives us a better idea of what she can do.

The mystery was a fun delve into Jon's past, and without anyone dying in Misty Creek we got to have an excellent murder mystery. I did feel like Darcy should have maybe spoken with Jon after the vision but that might be a little outside of her comfort zone right now.

I am really enjoying the series so far, I hope it keeps its momentum.

An ok read

I didn't care for this one as much as the first because it just simply didn't seem to have any real depth of feeling. Granted the deaths in book one took on a more personal tone since they were close to Darcy, but even the attack on her sister didn't seem to elicit much emotion. And I'm sorry, but I am just not feeling this "love" vibe they supposedly have going on. The mystery wasn't quite as mysterious as the first book either. Not a bad book, but I just didn't feel as connected to the characters, sorry.

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.

5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

Hmm

After enjoying the first story so much I found this one a little disappointing. I thought the story was far too predictable, with far too much of its limited pages spent on two grown adults acting like lovestruck teenagers. I'm not a big fan of romantic stories so that irritated me quite a bit. If the story had been longer or more focused on the mystery I would have enjoyed it more. Adding to that was a mistake in the story that also annoyed me and the repeated use of similar phrases which had me grinding my teeth. With that being said it did have a fairly decent story and Darcy is likable enough for me to read the next, hopefully better, story.

The first book in this series was OK but not great. Some series pick up from book 2 so I thought I'd give it a shot.

The plot is thin, the characters are undeveloped and while the writing has promise it needs work.

This could be a gritty, interesting series with quirky characters and mysterious storylines but it falls flat. It feels like it is aimed at young adults but I suspect that it isn't really the case.
