When Darcy Sweet's friend asks her for help in finding out more about a young woman's mother she thinks that it will just be a routine communication with the other side. But when she is unable to establish any contact with the woman she is confused. There seemed to be only one reason for it but it didn't make any sense.

Keeping her suspicions to herself she begins to investigate to see if she can come up with another reason for the lack of communication. Upon more investigation the mystery deepens and things may not be as they seem. What really happened to the woman?

And if that wasn't enough Darcy's very proper mother comes for a visit. Not having had the easiest relationship with her mother Darcy is disconcerted when she doesn't act at all like herself, showering unexpected attention on Darcy and her sister. As if the hugs weren't surprising enough there is also the issue of her mother acting mysteriously. It was just another mystery for Darcy to unravel. What was her mother up to?

Once again I say you will fall in love with the Characters in this series. You feel for Darcy in a way that you want to stand up and say " Hay Darcy Sweets is as Normal as You and Me but she's way better then us all put together. Now she has her and full with a request to look into a horrible fire that took two lives on top of that Jon Tinker ( Mr. Hunky Sexy Detective wants to move in with Darcy) [ AND TO THE AUTHOR K.J. EMRICK IF YOU HAVEN'T DONE IT YET PLEASE DO THEY ARE RIGHT FOR EACH OTHER BIG TIME ]. If that is not enough on her plate she just learned that her Mother is coming to town for what the sisters don't know. If you haven't read book #3 From the Ashes go grab a copy and find out what happens.

Another cute little cosy mystery for this series. Again really enjoyable, and I can not wait to finish this series. Darcy and Jon are adorable and Smudge is the most mischievous little cat.

Great read for a stormy day and a sleepless night. Darcy is one of the few girls I envy because of her super book store ;)

From the Ashes was more entertaining than the second book in this series but not as good as the first book. Thanks

Of the first 3 books I've read in Darcy Sweet Mystery Box Set 1 by K.J. Emrick, From the Ashes has been the best. Also, the most fleshed out character wise, including and esp. Darcy Sweet.

Darcy Sweet's friend from the library, Linda, brings Sarah to meet Darcy because Linda feels Darcy can help her Sarah. Of course Darcy agrees. Later that night, after Sarah gave her her mom's bracelet, Darcy does a communication with the spirit world, but she doesn't get a feel for Sarah's mom, much less find Angelica there.

This book, Volume 3 in this first box set (books 1-6), felt and read much better the books 1 & 2 (WAY better than book 2). The writing was better, Darcy and the other characters, were more fleshed out, the mystery was a good one. In all, this book felt and read more like a professional author wrote this, instead of reading as if written by a 6th grader as I felt the first two books read.

The only thing I didn't care for were the actions of three ghosts who appeared to Darcy. I can't say why or anything further about them as it might spoil the book for the reader.

From the Ashes gives me hope the remaining three books will be enjoyable as well as this one is.

I'm really enjoying the books where there is a mystery to solve but no one in the town dies. Jon and Darcy look into the death of a woman that happened many years prior. Due to the mystery, we get to delve into the history of the town. We get to learn so much that it makes the town feel much richer than previously. We get to also expand the character base in the story adding more layers into the town. Misty Creek feels like a city that you could just visit.

Jon and Darcy also work closely together throughout the book which allows them to grow as a couple. With the introduction of Darcy's mother, we get to see how the family dynamic is between them. They work together very well, however, I feel like Jon still doesn't really believe Darcy throughout this book.

I really love how everything in this book builds onto the previous books so well. This was a very interesting book.

I liked the mystery in this one, but I'm really not liking Darcy's boyfriend. He's being too pushy about moving in with her, and I hate the way he demands kisses as payment for information. I cringe when he calls her "sweet baby." She may be sweet, but she is NOT a baby! To me, those are all red flags. The cat doesn't like him. She should listen to the cat. (Yeah, I know, I'm near the beginning of a long running series and I've read the blurbs of the future.)

Good story

Great story line. It was very interesting to see how Darcy solved this mystery. And there wasn't even a murder. Love the way her and Jon are progressing in their relationship. Hoping they move in together soon, Maybe even get married? That would be great. On to the next story.

I thoroughly enjoyed this installment in the series. I will admit I did correctly guess about the parents and that the solution would be bittersweet. The storyline did surprise me with just about everything else, though! Darcy never gets it right; the guilty party practically has to fall in her lap.

This installment in the Darcy Sweet saga was better than the last two. There was less repetition and it got down to the story without throwing non essential nonsense. Hopefully the books get better as the stories progress.

Definitely a paranormal, cozy mystery. It's interesting but not very complex. Very entertaining and fun to read.

It's more cringe-y romance between Darcy & Jon, unfortunately still failing to invoke any care for the characters. The "mystery" isn't mysterious or interesting.

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.

5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

I loved "From the Ashes", the third book in the Darcy Sweet cosy mysteries series.
This book was longer than the previous one & was a return to form, being particularly well written. This time around there was no murder but an altogether different mystery for Darcy to solve. There was also more development put into the characters, which is hard to do with a short novella, and we learnt a little more about the town Misty Hollow.
I'm sad that Smudge isn't getting more of a show, so I hope his part in helping solve mysteries will increase with further novels.
A lovely relaxing read to sit down with a cuppa & a biscuit or two.

This way probably my least favorite book in the 7 I've read in this series.

Hate Jon Tinker's last name. He needed a grownup name.

The plot in this was interesting but could have been better. It didn't quite hold my interest as much as some of the other plots.

Again, the female main character suspects EVERYONE she sees. It's very tiresome. Lady who walked past? Bad guy! Grandma getting groceries? Bad guy! Dog peeing on a hydrant? Bad guy!

You get the drift.

I'm not seeing much character growth from her either. She's very immature. I truly hope the author makes her better at some point.

A great read.

This is much better written than the two first books in the Darcy Sweet Cozy Mystery Series. The author is learning how to create pictures for the reader with her written word. I think I will read a few more in the series, to see how the writing goes. I do love a well written book, and I love Cozy Mysteries.

This was a very good book to read during Halloween week. Darcy is helping a friend find out information on a lost loved one. But, they may be closer than anyone realizes. I love this cozy mystery series because it's spooky, but not too scary. I love the protagonist, Darcy and her abilities to uncover the truth.

Swift and sweet

Another cozy mystery but with a quick ending. What makes these books nice is enjoyable characters, nice setting which can be finished in a nice, long afternoon read.

Darcy and her family and friends continue as I expected but I didn't enjoy the mystery in this third installment as much as the first two.
